David Sicher, aged 24 years, who lived with his parents near Topton, one day last week committed suicide by shooting himself through the heart in his father's barn. The father of the young man is employed in Kutztown, and was not at home at the time, but members of the family heard the shot, and on going to the barn, Sicher was found lying on the floor dead, and a pistol by his side. Deceased was single, and bore an excellent character. He had only recently bought a small property for $600, paying $60 for it. Later he regretted the purchase, and the fear of losing the forfeit money preyed upon his mind. This was the only apparent cause for the act. Squire Mabry held an inquest, and a verdict of suicide was rendered.

The sad intelligence was received here of the shocking death of Ezekiah Smith, of Reading, formerly of Emmaus. He was a carpenter and desiring to descend from a factory building where he worked, by means of a pulley rope, he got the wrong rope and fell to the ground, a distance of eighteen feet. He also fell against some projection and was instantly killed. Mr. Smith was married to the oldest daughter of Elanius Acker, of near this place, who, with his other daughter, Mrs. Byron Carl, went to Reading on Tuesday evening. Mr. Smith's mother resides with another son, Charles, near East Texas. Deceased was aged about 35 years. He was esteemed by many friends and his sudden death is greatly deplored.
