Kutztown Oct 10 1923 - (Special)--Henry Hohl, aged 72 years, 8 months, and 7 days, died at the home of his son-in-law, Milton Wentzel, 211 East Main St, this borough, on Tuesday afternoon from apoplexy. Mr. Hohl made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Samuel Heffner, Bern township, and only a few days ago was taken ill when visiting his daughter here. Deceased was a retired farmer and was a native of Bern township. He is survived by two daughters and three sons: Carrie, wife of Milton Wentzel, this borough; Eva, wife of Samuel Heffner of Bern township; Harvey O., Catasauqua; Elmer M, Allentown; and Luther I., Wheeling, W VA; also one stepson, William Eshelman, Newark NJ. One son, Walter, died in January of this year. Nine grandchildren, three sisters and one brother, Mrs. Ellen Althouse, Reading; Annie, wife of Harry Kirlin, Philadelphia; Agnes, Birdsboro; and Samuel, Robesonia, also survive. Funeral Saturday, Oct 13, at 11:30 at the home of his soninlaw Milton Wentzel, 211 East Main street, this borough. Further services at St John's Church, Gibraltar at 2 o'clock. Undertaker William F Fritz, this borough, has charge.

Hohl, Richard, passed away in the Reading Hospital at the age of 47 years. He was the son of the late Walter and Mary Harner Hohl. He is survived by his wife, Marietta Kirlin Hohl, and one daughter, Rose Mary. Brother Hohl had been ailing for the past three years. Through this period of suffering, his desire became more and more earnest to give himself completely to the Lord. His passing on Sunday evening of May 7, 1950, marked the transition of his residence from earth to glory. Funeral services were conducted by his pastor. That which is mortal was laid to rest in the Memorial Mausoleum, Wyomissing Hills, on May 11, 1950. __G. R. Booth

Nancy E. Holben, daughter of John E. and Ruth (nee Oswald) Holben of Mertztown R. 1, near Topton, died in the Sacred Heart hospital last night five minutes after she had been admitted to the institution. Death was due to pneumonia. She was aged four months and 15 days. The child was taken ill two days ago, and when the illness was diagnosed as pneumonia, she was rushed to the hospital. Surviving are her parents, her paternal grandfather, Milton Holben, and her maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Oswald.

Services were held in Salem (Belleman's) Church, Centre Township, for Paul L. Holcombe Jr., 77, who died Dec. 9 in his Belleman's Church Road, Centre Township residence. Burial was in Fairview (Belleman's) Cemetery. He was the husband of Catherine M. (Kauffman) Holcombe. Born in Lambertville, N.J., he was a son of the late Paul L., Sr. and Helen M. (Bellis) Holcombe. He was a 1944 graduate of Lambertville High School and attended Rutgers University. Holcombe was a World War II Army veteran. Until retiring in 1988, he was employed as an agronomy consultant by Reading Bone Fertilizer, Cumru Township, for 21 years. He was previously employed in 1947 by the Paul Whiteman Walking Horse and Angus Farm, Rosemont, N.J., and by Soleil Angus Farm and Cloud Valley Farm, both in Pottstown. He was a leader of the Berks County 4-H Beef Club from 1969 to 1984 and a committee member of the Berks County 4-H Development Council, Bern Township. Holcombe was past president of the Brandywine Angus Association, Chester County, and a former director of the Berks-Southeast Cattleman's Association. He was a former executive committee member of Centerport Grange 1600. In 1982, Holcombe was a delegate to France and Germany through the French and German Alliance of Farmers Exchange. Also surviving were two sons, Paul L. Holcombe III, Enon, Ohio, and James K. Holcombe, Centre Township; and two daughters, Cathy E. (Holcombe) delFierro, Spring Valley, N.Y., and Ann E. (Holcombe) Stump, Centre Township. There are also 11 grandchildren. Other survivors include three sisters: Verna (Holcombe) Vetter, Long Island, N.Y.; Dorothy (Holcombe) Miller, Allentown; and Ethel (Holcombe) Musselman, New Hope, Bucks County. The Leibensperger Funeral Home, Centerport, was in charge of arrangements.

Holl, Annie L., wife of Mark D. Holl, Kutztown fell asleep in Christ on December 23, 1953, at the age of 78 years. She was a charter member of First Church. Her husband and a daughter Naomi survive. Her pastor conducted the funeral service in the Schaeffer and Stump Funeral Home in Kutztown, and interment was made in the Charles Evans Cemetery. __George B. Carvell

Funeral services were held for Mildred M. Jordan Holl, 88, formerly of East Walnut Street, Shillington, who died March 25 in Reading Hospital. She was taken to the hospital from Mifflin Court, Cumru Township, where she had resided for 18 months. She was predeceased by her first husband, Peter Jordan, in 1958, and by her second husband, Frederick H. Holl, in 1987. Born in Boyertown, she was employed for 20 years as a cafeteria worker in the Governor Mifflin School District, retiring in 1979. Surviving are a daughter, Nina M. (Jordan) Ward, Roundrock, Texas; and three sons: Francis P., Mohrsville; Ronald L., Kingwood, Texas; and John D., Montrose Manor. Other survivors include 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Burial was in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Reiffton. The Bean Funeral Homes Inc., Shillington, handled the arrangements.

Mrs. Rosanna L. Holl of Kutztown R. 2 died yesterday in the home of her sister, Mrs. Morris F. Greenawalt of Topton. She was 76. Mrs. Holl was visiting her sister when stricken. She had been under a doctor's care. She was the widow of James F. Holl. Born in Maxatawny Township, she was a daughter of the late Cyrenius and Amelia (Rabenold) Grim. She was a member of the Glad Tidings Tabernacle, Reading. Surviving is another sister, Margaret Clay, of Reading. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Fritz & Kendall Funeral Home, Kutztown. Viewing will be 7-9 p.m. Friday.

Mrs. Beulah Holland, widow of George W. Holland, was found dead yesterday in her Alburtis R. 1 home. She was 59. Deputy Coroner Dr. Carleton Herrick of Lehigh County said the cause of death was strangulation by hanging. He ruled it a case of suicide. Mrs. Holland’s body was found in the attic by a daughter. Born in Rockland Township, Berks County, she was a daughter of the late Charles B. and Olivia (Welder) Hilbert. She was a member of the Lutheran congregation of Zion Lehigh Church, Alburtis R. 1. Surviving are four sons, Lloyd H., Wesley G., and Melvin C., all of Alburtis R. 1, and Kenneth R., Emmaus; a daughter, Melba, wife of Russell Kleppinger, at home; five brothers, Victor of Easton, Paul of Trexlertown, Lester of Topton, Earl of Macungie and Carl of New Hope R. 1; a sister, Mrs. Howard Reinert, Topton, and 10 grandchildren. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the Schmoyer Funeral Home, Breinigsville. Viewing will be 7-8:30 p.m. tomorrow.

Eva R. Holland, 90, formerly of Pennside, died May 2 at 8:15 a.m. in the Berkshire Center, Exeter Township, where she had resided 16 months. Her husband, Thomas P. Holland, died Dec. 15, 1976. Born in Host, Tulpehocken Township, she was a daughter of the late William D. and Sallie Ann (Whilhelm) Kline. Holland was the owner-operator of the Holland Print Shop, Pennside, for 43 years, retiring in 1975. She was a member of Bern Lutheran Church, Bern Township. Surviving are several nieces and nephews. Services will be Friday at 10 a.m. in the Bean Funeral Homes Inc., Sinking Spring. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Reiffton.

Mrs. Mary A. Holland, for many years a resident of Longswamp township, Berks county, died on Thursday at the home of her son, Charles Holland, along Bethlehem, R. 4. A widow of Frank Benjamin Holland, she was 71 years of age. Born in Carbon county, she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin McClean. Surviving are three sons: Frank, Reading; George, Alburtis R. 1; and Charles, Bethlehem R. 4. Eight grandchildren also survive. Her husband preceded her in death 37 years ago. Services will be conducted at the DeLong funeral home, 107 S. Home St., Topton, on Tuesday at 2 p.m. Interment in the Topton union cemetery. Rev. Franklin D. Slifer, pastor of the Reformed wing of the church, will officiate.

Edna Hollenbach, former innkeeper. Edna F. Hollenbach, a retired co-owner of a Womelsdorf inn, died Dec. 18 at 5 a.m. in the emergency room of Reading Hospital. Hollenbach, 91, of 4070 Smaltz Road, Marion Township, was taken to the hospital from manorCare Health Services Inc., Spring Township, where she had resided since Dec. 13. Her husband, John I. Hollenbach, died June 8, 1984. Hollenbach and her husband owned and operated the Conrad Weiser Inn, Womelsdorf, for 20 years, retiring in 1985. Born in Bern Township, she was a daughter of the late James and Elizabeth (Schaeffer) Wayne. She was a member of Zion United Church of Christ, Womelsdorf. Hollenbach, who resided with Leonard Layser, is survived by a son, Marvin W. Schonour, South Heidelberg Township. Other survivors include three sisters: Esther (Wayne) Gerhart, Fredericksburg, Lebanon County; Laura (Wayne) Hower, Bernville; and Elsie (Wayne) Blessing, Bern Township. There are also two grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Hetrick Funeral Home, Womelsdorf. Burial will be in Womelsdorf Union Cemetery.

Esther S., wife of George Hollenbach, died of paralysis at her home, on the DeTurk fam in Greenwich township, on Tuesday morning. Her age was 39 years, 10 months and 12 days. Besides her husband, she is survived by three children and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Merkel, of Greenwich. Funeral to-morrow. Services and interment at Bethel Church, Windsor. Rev. Marvin H. Stettler, of Reading, will officiate.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, Richmond Township, for Katherine F. Hollenbach, Rocky Lane, Rockland Township, who died of natural causes Jan. 17 in Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill, Cumberland County, shortly after being admitted. She was taken to the hospital from Health South Rehabilitation Center, Mechanicsburg, where she had been a patient four days. Burial was private. She was the wife of Neil E. Hollenbach. Born in Philadelphia, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Catherine F. (Higgins) Mautz. She was a member of St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church, Philadelphia. Also surviving are three sons, William C. Hollenbach and Michael S. Hollenbach, both of Philadelphia; and Edward W. Hollenbach, Rockland Township. There are also five grandchildren and one great-grandson. The Ludwick Funeral Home, Kutztown, was in charge of arrangements.

Hollenbach, 60, of Old Route 22, Windsor Township, who died of natural causes May 16 shortly after being admitted to St. Joseph Medical Center. Burial was in St. John's Cemetery, Hamburg. He was the husband of Dolores A. (Shollenberger) Hollenbach. Born in Myerstown, he was a son of the late Wayne S. and Estella (Dundore) Hollenbach. He was a former mayor of Auburn, Schuylkill County. Hollenbach was employed as a supervisor by General Battery Corp., for 15 years, and later as a steward at the Union Fire Company, both of Hamburg. Surviving are a son, Gregory L. Hollenbach, Schuylkill Haven; and two daughters, Stacy L. (Hollenbach) Andrefski, Orwigsburg, and Lesley J. (Hollenbach) Wagner, Reading. Other survivors include three stepsons: Norman K. Bailey, Allentown; Brett D. Bailey, Hamburg; and Bart D. Bailey, Shoemakersville; and three stepdaughters: Barbara L. (Bailey) Hartman, Perry Township; and Cheryl A. (Bailey) Breitigan and Michele M. (Bailey) Dierwechter, both of Tilden Township. There are also 16 grandchildren. Additional survivors include six brothers: Richard L. Hollenbach, Campbelltown, Lebanon County; Earl E. Farming community leader. Services were held in the Kirkhoff Funeral Home, Bernville, for Miles D. Hollenbach, 88, Old Route 22, Upper Tulpehocken Township, who died Oct. 27 in Reading Hospital, where he had been a patient since Sept. 24. Burial was in Strausstown Cemetery. He was predeceased by his wife, Lillian M. Hollenbach, who died in 1997. Born in Upper Tulpehocken Township, he was a son of the late Milton D. and Lizzie (Stump) Hollenbach. He was a long-time farmer in the area. Hollenbach was a leader in the 4-H Club for 25 years, and was an executive in Shartlesville Grange 1512. He was a former treasurer of the Hamburg School Board and an original member of the Blue Mountain Climbing Club. Hollenbach was featured as the first outstanding farm family in the Reading Eagle in 1956. He was a member of Zion (Blue Mountain) United Church of Christ, Strausstown, where he was a former member of council. Surviving is a son, Carl E. Hollenbach, Bernville, and three daughters: Esther L. (Hollenbach) Sweigart and Helen L. (Hollenbach) Shirey, both of Bernville; and Faye (Hollenbach) Daub, Bethel. There are also 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Riley M. Hollenbach, one of the best known farmers in the vicinity of Shoemakersville, died of pneumonia Sunday morning, aged 54. Deceased was born in Centre township, where he lived nearly all his life. He leaves his wife, Caroline, and these children: James W. Hollenbach, of Reading, Mary, wife of David Rider, of Duncannon.

Funeral services were held Wilmer A. Pete Hollowbush, 88, of Sanatoga Road, Pottstown, widower of Mildred (Byrne) Hollowbush, who died June 13 in Montgomery County Geriatric & Rehabilitation Center in Upper Providence. Born in Perkiomenville, Hollowbush retired in 1976 after working for 36 years as a welder at the former Bethlehem Steel Corp. of Pottstown. He was an Army veteran of World War II, and a recipient of the Purple Heart. Hollowbush was a member of New Hanover Lutheran Church of New Hanover for 63 years, where he taught Sunday School and was a member of the Sunday School Orchestra. He was a life member of the Boyertown Music League. Surviving are a son, Jeffry Hollowbush of Oley; a daughter, Kim Hollowbush of Pottstown. Also two brothers, Robert Hollowbush of Fleetwood and Paul Hollowbush of Obelisk; a sister, Helen Moyer of Boyertown; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister. Contributions may be made to New Hanover Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 2941 Lutheran Road, Gilbertsville, PA 19525. Burial was in New Hanover Lutheran Church Cemetery. The arrangements were handled by the Catagnus Funeral Home, Pottstown.

Mrs. Mary A. Holtzman, nee Fritch, 68, of Alburtis R. 1 died yesterday in Allentown hospital. She was the widow of Leo J. Holtzman. A native of Longswamp township, she was the daughter of the late Edwin and Elizabeth (Romig) Fritch. She was a member of the Lutheran congregation of Longswamp Union church. Survivors include one son, Edward L., with whom she resided; three brothers, John and Edwin Fritch of Mertztown and Lesher Fritch of Emmaus; a sister, Mrs. Lizzie Reinert of Vera Cruz.

Mrs. Sallie Ann Holtzman, nee Herring, wife of Byron J. Holtzman, died at 1:50 a.m. Tuesday at her home, 950 Allen St. She had been sick the past six weeks. Born in Lower Longswamp township, she was the daughter of the late Wilson and Emmeleine (Romig) Herring. She lived in Allentown for the past 50 years, and was a member of Dubbs Memorial Reformed Church. Besides her husband, there survive four daughters: Dorothea, wife of Charles Leslie Sprague, Allentown, Bertha K. And Florence E., both at home, and Anna A., wife of Ralph LaFave, Brooklyn, N.Y.; one son, Charles B. Holtzman, Allentown; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Also the following half-sisters and half-brothers, Ralph Herring and Howard Herring, Allentown; William Herring, Orefield; Mrs. Tanna Quitto, Hokendauqua and Mrs. Jennie Boyer, Allentown. Funeral services Friday at 2p.m. in the J.S. Burkholder funeral home, 1601 Hamilton St. Interment Grandview cemetery. Calling hours are 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday.

Sinking Spring, April 4 (Special). -- Leroy Calvin Holzman died at the home of his parents, Calvin F. and Mary F. (Bergman) Holzman, Route 2, Sinking Spring, aged 14 years and 10 months. Besides the parents there survive two sisters, Florence, wife of John Lutz, near this borough, and Dora, wife of Andrew Klopp, this borough. He was a member of the Olive Leaf Union Sunday School, Fritztown, and was a student in the Wilson high school. Funeral on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. from the home of the parents, near this borough. Further services in St. john's Lutheran Church, this borough, Rev. John S. Sowa officiating. Interment in the adjoining cemetery, in charge of funeral director C. Norman Lamm of Wernersville.

Born in Reading, she was a looper for many years for Nolde and Horst Knitting Mill, Reading. She was a member of St. Stephen's United Church of Christ, Reading. Carl H. Homan, 78, of Stag Cove, Lake Wynonah, died Thursday night at Pottsville Hospital, where he had been a patient since July 9. Born in Ruscombmanor Township, Berks County, he was a son of the late Bright J. and Matilda Luttman Homan. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He worked as a security guard for six years at Lake Wynonah, last working in April. Before that, he had been employed for 38 years by Firestone-Occidental Chemical Corp., Pottstown, retiring Sept. 1, 1986. Surviving are his wife, the former Geraldine G. Valentine; four daughters, Dorothy L. Boettlin, Pottstown, Peggy D. Woods, Lancaster, Beverly J. Homan, Reading, and Robin L. Homan Temple; a brother, Robert, Reading; a sister Miriam Arndt, Reading; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 2 p.m. today from Mae E. Stump Funeral Home, Fleetwood. Interment will be in Berks County Memorial Gardens, Maidencreek Township.

Homan, 96, formerly of State Street, Hamburg, who died Dec. 31 in the Topton Lutheran Home, where she had resided since March 19, 1997. Burial was in St. John's Cemetery. She was predeceased by her husband, Chester Homan, who died Dec. 3, 1963. Born in Hamburg, she was a daughter of the late Robert T. and Katie E. (Folk) Koller. She and her husband were the owners/operators of Homan's IGA Store and Post Office, Virginville, for 19 years. After closing the store in 1962, she was assistant postmaster and postmaster until retiring. Homan was a 65-year member and past matron of Blue Mountain Chapter 443 Order of Eastern Star, Hamburg, and was past noble grand of Clementine Rebekah Lodge 571, Hamburg. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Hamburg.

Services were held in the Sanders Funeral Home, Reading, for Stephen E. Homan, 52, of Fairview Drive, Bern Township, who died of natural causes May 1 in the emergency room of Reading Hospital. Burial was private. He was the husband of Terre A. (Boone) Homan. Born in Reading, he was a son of Ruth E. (Enders) Young, Reading. He was employed as a car man by Norfolk & Southern Railroad, Allentown, for the past 30 years. He was also a traveling safety instructor for the railroad. Homan was the local vice chairman of the Transportation Communications International Union Local 6965, Allentown. Also surviving are a daughter, Danielle L. (Homan) Vanella, Fleetwood; and two sons, Allen E. Homan, Leesport, and Derek B. Homan, Reading. There are also three grandchildren. Other survivors include a sister, Stephanie L. (Homan) Sweigart, Mohrsville; a brother, David A. Homan, Leesport; and his stepfather, Irving B. Young, Reading.

Susanna, wife of Charles E. Homan, No. 804 Elm Street, Reading, died suddenly of heart disease yesterday, aged 34 years. Deceased was indisposed for three months but her ailment was not considered serious. She ate a hearty supper Wednesday evening and retired early. About 1 a.m., she awoke her husband and told him she felt so cold, whereupon he assisted her down stairs and placed her in a rocker near the stove. Mr. Holman sat with his wife for a time, when she insisted that he should retire, which he did. When he went down stairs at 5 a.m., he found her in the same position as when he left. He tried to arouse her and was horrified to find her dead. The body was still warm and Dr. Becker sent for, but she had already passed away. Deceased was a daughter of Joseph Roberts, of this city, who survives, together with these brothers and sisters: Orville, Walter, Ida and Louisa, all of this city. There were no surviving children. Deceased was a member of the First Reformed Church.

Marlene D. Hoover, 53, Leesport, died of natural causes July 11 at 8:38 p.m. in the Laurel Center Genesis Elder Care, Tilden Township, where she had resided since June 22. She was the wife of Mark W. Hoover. Born in Reading, she was a daughter of Barbara (Bixler) Bendrick, Reading, and the late Raphael G. Bendrick. Hoover was employed for two years as a registered nurse by St. Joseph Medical Center, last working in 2004. She was a certified paralegal. Hoover was a 1972 graduate of the Reading Hospital School of Nursing. She is also survived by two sisters, Sandy G. (Bendrick) Stewart, Muhlenberg Township, and Lisa S. (Bendrick) Hughes, York; and a brother, David S. Bendrick, Reading. Services will be private. The Auman Funeral Homes, Reading, is in charge of arrangements.

Hoover, Robert F., of 728 Chestnut St., Reading, passed away November 27, 1953 at the age of 78 years, 8 months, and 1 day. He was born in Dauphin Co., March 26, 1875. His father was the late Jeremiah Hoover, his mother, Mary Ann Landis Hoover. He was the brother of the late H. Willis Hoover who had been a Presiding Elder of the United Evangelical Church and a former Pastor of Grace Church, Reading. He is survived by a brother, Galen (Gus) Hoover of Reading, a son, Herman I. Hoover of Harrisburg and a daughter, Edna, wife of Elmer Reidel of Hershey. Mrs. Bessie Irene Isamoyer Hoppes, 48, wife of Robert Rhodes Hoppes, teacher of science in the Hellertown High school and Morning Call correspondent, of 831 Detweiler St., that borough, died Tuesday night in St. Luke's hospital. Member of Christ Lutheran church, and the home department of St. Paul's Evangelical Sunday school, Mrs. Hoppes had been ailing for some time. She was born Nov. 24, 1893, in Shamrock, Longswamp township, Berks county, Pa., a daughter of Annie Reichelderfer Isamoyer and the late Albert Isamoyer. Surviving are the mother, of Emmaus; the husband, two daughters, Mrs. Henry Laubach, Hellertown R. 1 and Roberta E., at home; two sons, Robert L., of the United State Army, stationed at Camp Stewart, Ga., and Albert W., at home; a sister, Mrs. Edwin Fogel, of Emmaus, and one brother, William Isamoyer, of Mertztown R. 1, and a granddaughter, Nancy I. Laubach.

Clinton R. Hoppes, Kutztown building contractor and bricklayer, died Wednesday night at the Reading hospital, following an illness of several weeks. He was 56 years old. Born in Maxatawny township, he was a son of the late William and Melinda, nee Roth, Hoppes. His home was at 304 White Oak St., Kutztown. Surviving are his wife, Anna, nee Zettlemoyer, Hoppes; two daughters, Evelyn, wife of Carl Frederick, of Erie, and Viola, wife of Cornelius Brennan, at home; two sisters, Mrs. Robert Schlegel of Kutztown and Mrs. Aaron Swoyer of Maxatawny; and two brothers, Herbert of Hancock and Robert of Hellertown. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at his late home on White Oak St., with Rev. F. D. Slifer officiating. Interment will be made in Fairview cemetery, Kutztown.

In failing health for the past nine months, Eva Mae Hoppes, wife of Howard Hoppes, died at 5 o'clock yesterday morning at her home, High St., Topton. Mrs. Hoppes, who was 34 years of age, was a member of the Lutheran wing of the New Jerusalem Union church. Besides her husband, there survive her parents, John and Clara, nee Rader, Guinther; two daughters, Mary and Fern, and one son, William, all at home. Also six sisters: Mrs. Harvey Behm, Bowers; Mrs. Herbert Hertzog, Lyons; Mrs. Harold Adams, Mertztown R.D.; Lottie and Lea, both of Mertztown R.D.; Mrs. Ernest Reinhardt, Fleetwood R.D. Six brothers: Lester, Dryville; Howard, Mertztown R.D.; Paul, near Topton; Claytus, Bowers; Robert and Wayne, Mertztown R.D., and one step-brother, Clarence of Topton. Services will be held on Sunday at 3 p.m., DST, from the Schofer funeral home, 107 Main St., Topton, with further services in St. Peter's Reformed church, Topton. The Revs. William F. Bond and Franklin Slifer will officiate and burial will be made in Union cemetery, Topton.

Herbert Hoppes, husband of Laura, nee Landis, Hoppes, died yesterday at noon at his home in Hancock. Born in Rockdale township, Berks county, he was the son of the late William and Malinda, nee Roth, Hoppes. He was an auctioneer. Mr. Hoppes is survived by his wife, four sons, Howard of Hancock; Earl and Paul, Topton; and Sergeant Linwood, in England; a brother Robert, of Hellertown; two sisters, Mrs. Arron Zwoyer of Maxatawny, and Mrs. Robert Schlegel, of Kutztown. Funeral services will be held from the Schofer funeral home, 107 Main St., Topton, on Wednesday at 2 p.m. Burial will be made in the Union cemetery. Rev. Franklin Slifer will officiate. Howard L. Hoppes, 21, of Hancock, Mertztown R. 1, was fatally injured late Saturday night in a one-car crash along a rural road in Berks county. He was pronounced dead at 11:55 p.m. in the office of Dr. Richard C. Reichard in Topton. An autopsy will be performed in Reading Hospital to determine the cause of his death. State police at Reading said the Hoppes car struck an earth embankment headon at a T-intersection along the Dryville-Huffs Church Road south of Topton. Investigators said Hoppes failed to stop for a stop sign at the intersection. The crash happened at 11:30 p.m. Born in Longswamp Township, Berks County, Hoppes was a son of Howard L. and Alice M. (Geist) Hoppes of Mertztown R. 1. He was a member of St. Paul's Longswamp Lutheran Church, and was employed at the East Penn Foundry in Macungie. Surviving in addition to his parents are his widow, Virginia (Christman) Hoppes; a daughter, Dawn; three brothers, William of Mertztown R. 1, Jackie of Alburtis R. 1, and Ronald of Mertztown R. 1; five sisters, Mrs. Mary Weiser of Topton; Fern, wife of John Moll of Mertztown R. 1, Jeannette, wife of Robert Boyer of Topton; LaRue Hoppes of Mertztown R. 1 and Marianna, wife of Willard Strunk of Mertztown R. 1; and his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Laura E. Hoppes of Topton. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Earl A. Trexler Funeral Home, 25 E. Weiss St., Topton. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. tomorrow.

John H. Hoppes, aged 67 years, died suddenly on Saturday at his home in Barto from a stroke of apoplexy. Mrs. William, wife of William Hoppes, died Tuesday afternoon at 1.30 o'clock at the home of her son-in-law, Oliver Miller, near Topton, of diabetes, aged 67 years, 7 months and 21 days. Mrs. Hoppes was a native of Rockland township, Berks county, and a daughter of the late Samuel and Maria Behm Roth. She is survived by her husband and the following children: Robert, hellertown; Charles, Reading; Clinton and Mrs. Robert Schlegel, Kutztown; Herbert and Mrs. Oliver Miller, Topton; and Mrs. Aaron Zmoyer, Maxatawny. Twenty grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and two brothers, William, Lyons, and Nathan, Griesemersville, Berks county, also survive. The funeral will be held Saturday afternoon from the home of her son-in-law, Oliver Miller, near Topton, with all services at the house at 1.30 o'clock. Rev. W. S. Bond will officiate. William H. Hoppes, a retired farmer, died yesterday afternoon at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Miller, near Topton, in his eighty-sixth year. A native of Oley township, Berks county, he was the son of the late Solomon and Sarah, nee Hassler, Hoppes. His wife Malinda, nee Roth, Hoppes, passed away twelve years ago. Surviving are three daughters and three sons: Mrs. Aaron Zwoyer, Maxatawny; Mrs. Oliver Miller, near Topton; Mrs. Robert Schlegel, Kutztown; Clinton Hoppes, Kutztown; Herbert Hoppes, Hancock, and Robert Hoppes, teacher in the Hellertown schools; twenty-one grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren. The funeral will be held Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at the Miller home, with all services at the house. Interment will be made in Bowers cemetery. Rev. William F. Bond will officiate. Friends may call Monday night from 7 to 9 o'clock.

Services were held for Michael Horinka Jr., 80, of Earlville, husband of Helen Ondo Horinka, who died November 3 in ManorCare Health Services Inc., Pottstown. Born in Philadelphia, he graduated from Phoenixville High School. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. For many years he worked for the Firestone Tire and Rubber Co. in Pottstown and was a member of Local No. 336 of the United Rubber, Cork, Linoleum and Plastic Workers of America. He was a member of Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church of Pottstown and the Holy Trinity Club. Horinka was a member of the American Legion in Boyertown and the Friendship Hook and Ladder Co. No. 1 of Boyertown. Contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 325 Chestnut St., Suite 1120, Philadelphia, PA 19106. Burial was in the Highland Memorial Park with military honors. After a lengthy illness of complications, Mrs. Daisy, nee Fritch, widow of Charles H. Horn, for many years proprietor of the Horn Flower shop, died yesterday afternoon at 4.50 o'clock at her late home, 32 North Sixth street. She was in her 43rd year and was bedfast for the past six weeks. Born in Shamrock, Berks county, she was a daughter of Mrs. Mary, nee Geist, Fritch, and the late Mathias Fritch. A prominent church worker of Allentown, she was a faithful member of st. John's Lutheran church and was active in the affairs of its various societies. She was also affiliated with Anne Penn Allen chapter, No. 145, Order of Eastern Star, and the Ladies auxiliary of Allen Commandery, Knights Templar. Surviving to mourn her passing are two children, Olive L. and Charles H., of Allentown; her mother, of Shamrock; two sisters, Mrs. Lewis C. Killian, of this city, and Mrs. Solon Kerschner, of Topton; four brothers, Irvin, Milton, Allen and William Fritch, of Shamrock. Funeral services will be held at the Burkholder funeral home, 1601 Hamilton street, on Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock, with Rev. S. Franklin Custard officiating. Interment will be made in Fairview cemetery.

Services will be at the convenience of the family for Myrle R. (Reinert) Horn, 77, wife of Robert L. Horn, of West Philadelphia Avenue, Boyertown. She died February 9 at Lehigh Valley Hospital. She was born in the Morysville, Colebrookdale Township and was a 1942 graduate of Boyertown Area High School. Horn worked as a secretary for 26 years at Robert L. Horn Plumbing and Heating in Boyertown. In the 1940s, Horn worked as a secretary for Spicer's, now Dana Manufacturing. She was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Boyertown. In addition to her husband, Horn is survived by three sons, Michael J. Horn of New Ringgold, Schuylkill County, Robert D. Horn of Boyertown and David E. Horn of Catasauqua, Lehigh County. There are also five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Contributions may be made to the Berks County Humane Society, 1801 N. 11th St., Reading, PA 19604. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery in Boyertown. The arrangements were handled by the Morrell Funeral Home, Boyertown.

Mrs. John Hornberger died suddenly at her home near Gouglersville, at 7:30 o'clock yesterday morning. Deceased was stricken apoplexy about half an hour before death, but complained of not feeling well for some time. She was 70 years old.

Services were held for Janet L. (Heimbach) Horner, 63, wife of William I. Horner, of Fagleysville Road in New Hanover, who died June 11 in her home. She was born in Perkiomenville. Along with her husband, she owned and operated J&B Foods at Jakes Flea Market in Barto for the past 18 years. Before that she worked at the former Beckersman Shoe Factory in Boyertown and as a waitress at the Sassamansville Fire Co., where she was a life member. Surviving with her husband of 43 years are two daughters, Janet A. May and Lisa A. Horner, both of Gilbertsville; a brother, Leroy I. Pete Heimbach of Leesport; a sister, Erma Grebe of Gilbertsville; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 9 brothers and sisters. Born in Reading, she was a daughter of the late William and Mary (Drayer) Goodwin. She was a member of Berean Baptist Church, Reading. Surviving are a son, Robert E. Hoster Jr., Melbourne, Fla; and two daughters, Roberta (Hoster) Baeighkley, Phoenix, and Carol A. (Hoster) Shrom, Bradford, McKean County. There are also six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Albert M. Hottenstein, the landlord of the Maple Grove hotel, died suddenly at his residence in Longswamp township on Monday morning. Death was due to heart disease. He was in his sixtieth year. During the last few weeks he had been ailing. He is survived by his wife, Alice Hottenstein, nee Geiger; four sons, Charles, Norman, Lloyd and Earic. The funeral will be held on Friday at 1 p.m. standard time, from his late residence at Maple Grove, Longswamp township. Further services will be held in Mertztown church and interment made at adjoining cemetery. Rev. M. H. Brensinger will officiate.

Albert Peter Hottenstein, a well known young resident of Seisholtzville, died at 1:50 a.m. Thursday at the Allentown hospital after an illness of one week of lobar pneumonia. He was in his 23rd year. Born at Mertztown, he was a son of Charles and Cora (Shoemaker) Hottenstein. He was employed at Shoemaker's bakery, Mertztown R.D. Besides his widow, Gertrude, nee Ferry, he is survived by his mother of Mertztown, R.D.; his father of Scranton; one sister, Mrs. Arthur Moll, Macungie R.D.; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Shoemaker, Mertztown R.D., and his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Alvin Hottenstein, Mertztown. Funeral services will be held at the residence of his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Shoemaker, Mertztown R.D., on Monday at 1:30 p.m. with continued services in the Longswamp church and interment in the adjoining cemetery. The Rev. William F. Bond of Shamrock will officiate. Friends are invited to call at the home on Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Hottenstein, lawyer and real estate dealer, formerly of Kutztown, who died at his home in Milton of paralysis, after an illness of less than two weeks, was in his 67th year, and is survived by his wife, three sisters, four brothers and seven children. The surviving children are: Mrs. Robert C. Knauff, of Milton; Henry Kauffman Hottenstein, of Philadelphia; Robert L. Hottenstein, of Reading, Mrs. Guy F. Hankee, of Philadelphia; Misses Lulu G., Anna B. and Ethel M. Hottenstein, at home.

Austin C.L., son of the late David and Catharine (nee Apple) Hottenstein, died from the effects of a fall sustained on election day at his home, in Kutztown, aged 74 years, 11 months and 3 days. He was born and reared on the old Hottenstein homestead at Hottenstein, situated along the William Penn highway, in Maxatawny township. The deceased practiced medicine for 52 consecutive years and is survived by two brothers, John H. and Ezra H., both at home. Funeral Tuesday, Jan. 24, at 2 p.m., from his home. All services at the house. Rev. George B. Smith, pastor of St. Paul's Reformed church, will officiate. Interment will be made in Hope cemetery.

Charles Hottenstein died recently in Turbut township, Northumberland county, of apoplexy, aged 80 years. Deceased was a son of Henry Hottenstein, and was born in that part of Maidencreek township, Berks county, now Ontelaunee. He moved to Northumberland county about 50 years ago, and prospered.

Mrs. Cora S. (Shoemaker) Hottenstein, 82, died yesterday in her home at Red Lion, Macungie R. 1. Born at Longswamp Township, she was a daughter of the late Peter and Sarah (Romig) Shoemaker. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Mertztown. Surviving are a daughter Pauline, wife of Arthur J. Moll, with whom she resided; three sisters, Hannah, wife of Victor Fritch, and Eula, wife of Breiden Meck, both of Mertztown R. 1, and Sallie, wife of Daniel Meck of Alburtis R. 1; four brothers, Charles and Lewis, both of Mertztown R. 1, and William and John, both of Macungie; two grandchildren and a great-grandchild. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday in the Earl A. Trexler Funeral Home, 25 E. Weiss St., Topton. Viewing will be 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday.

Daniel H. Hottenstein, of Kutztown, died yesterday, aged 90 years, 10 months and 12 days. He was one of the most influential citizens of that place. He was a member of the Board of trustees of the Keystone State Normal School ever since the institution was started, and was president of the board of stockholders, and a member of St. Paul's Reformed Church. The following children survive: William, Ezra and Ella, at home; Dr. Austin Hottenstein, of the Normal School faculty. Besides there are five grandchildren and a number of great grandchildren. One brother and a sister, Miss Matilda Hottenstein, of Maxatawny, and Dr. Edward Hottenstein, Sr., of Kutztown, also survive. He was one of the wealthiest citizens in that town.

Dr. David F. Hottenstein, 73, of Kutztown R. 2, died Saturday in the Allentown and Sacred Heart Hospital Center. He was the husband of Gertrude (Adolf) Hottenstein and the late Mary (DeTurk) Hottenstein. He was director of the medical center at Kutztown State College since 1972. He was a Navy physician for more than 20 years before coming to Kutztown. He retired from the service as a captain. Dr. Hottenstein had medical offices in Bally before enlisting. Born in Philadelphia, he was a son of the late Peter and Mabel (Gill) Hottenstein. He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Kutztown. He was a past president of the Kutztown Historical Society and a member of several other historical societies in eastern Pennsylvania. Surviving with his widow are a son, David F. H., of Charles S. C., a daughter, Mary H., wife of Gerald Hensch, of North East, Md.; a sister, Margaret, wife of Richard Montgomery in Florida, and four grandchildren. Services will be announced by the Trexler & Hook Funeral Home, 25 E. Weiss St., Topton.

He was president of the board of stockholders of the Keystone State Normal School since its organization, and a member of St. Paul's Reformed church. Deceased is survived by these children: Dr. A. C. L. Hottenstein, of Lancaster county; Prof. John Hottenstein, of the Normal School; and Ellen and Ezra, living at home. Dr. E. L. Hottenstein, practicing physician at Kutztown, died there Tuesday, aged fifty-five years. He was the son of a physician, Dr. Edward Hottenstein, and has four brothers practicing medicine, Elmer and William, Akron, O.; Peter, Philadelphia, and Charles, of Kutztown. Hottenstein, a well known resident of this city, passed away at his home, 532 North Tenth St., at 5.30 o'clock a.m. Tuesday, aged 68 years, 1 month and 6 days. The deceased had been ill all summer, having been afflicted with Bright's disease. He was, however, able to be about until a week ago, at which time he was compelled to take to bed, his condition growing steadily worse until death came to his relief. He was born in Kutztown, a son of Isaac and Elizabeth (Fry) Hottenstein, both deceased. Thirty-two years ago he came to this city, residing here ever since, and until the time of his sickness, being employed in the Allentown Bobbin Works. Besides his widow, Adrienne Eisenhart, he is survived by two brothers and one sisters, James and Charles Hottenstein, Kutztown, and Mrs. Mary Yorghey, Pottstown. He was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran church and of Fair Council, No. 81, O. of I.A. The deceased was at one time a regular army man, having enlisted on the 9th day of sept. 1878 and being honorably discharged five years later. Funeral services will be held at his late home on Friday afternoon at one o'clock, after which the remains will be taken to Kutztown, where they will be privately interred in the Fairview cemetery. Submitted by Jerri.] Isaac Hottenstein, one of the oldest citizens of Kutztown, died there on Sunday night, of general debility, aged 85 years. He had been in ill health for the past few years. He was a brother of Mr. Levi Hottenstein, of this city. Besides his wife he left three sons, one residing in Hanover tsp., this county, and two at Kutztown. The house he lived in the greater part of his life was one of the first hotels in Kutztown, and was in existence at the tie of the march of Washington's army through said place during the Revolutionary war. Deceased enlisted as a soldier on the outbreak of the Mexican war, but only got as far as New Orleans, when owing to illness he returned home. Hottenstein, the oldest resident of Kutztown, died unexpectedly at 2 a.m. yesterday of heart failure, aged 84 years, 9 months and 25 days. He was in fairly good health until Saturday evening, when he complained of shortness of breath, but the family and he thought it was only a cold on his chest. Mr. Hottenstein was down town Saturday, was shaved and afterward entered J. J. Merkel & Co.'s store, where he conversed freely with friends relative to local politics. He was a life-long Democrat and took great interest in local, state and national affairs. Before the war broke out, he organized military companies, of which he was the captain. He held various town offices. The principal were school director, town council, constable and tax collector. All these he filled with credit. His widow (nee Elizabeth Drey) and four children survive --- Mary, wife of Dr. L. C. B. Yorgey, of Pottstown; Frank P., of Bethlehem; James Buchanan and Charles D., at home. One daughter, Sarah, died many years ago. James Hottenstein, of Philadelphia, and Levi Hottenstein, of Allentown, are the surviving brothers. He was the husband of Sharon (Anderton) Hotzman. Born in Reading, he was a son of the late Albert and Myrtle H. (Wolf) Hotzman. Hotzman had been employed for 31 years as a draftsman, first by Moore Body, Temple; then Birdsboro Steel Corp.; and lastly Carpenter Technology Corp., Reading, where he also worked in maintenance, retiring in 1987. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Reading. Hotzman was a 1949 graduate of Reading High School. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War. Hotzman was a 32nd degree mason with West Reading Lodge 62, Free and Accepted Masons. He is also survived by two daughters, Diane M. (Hotzman) Sorokach, Shillington, and Sherri L. (Hotzman) Kindt, Temple. There are also two granddaughters and two great-grandsons. He was predeceased by a daughter, Karen A. Hotzman, in 1958. Submitted by: Nancy McD.] The remains of Albert B. Houck, of Rockland township, Berks county, were laid to rest in the New Jerusalem cemetery on Tuesday afternoon, January 30. He was a son of Benjamin Houck and his wife Mary (nee Bieber) and was born in Berks county, Sept. 18, 1855. Baptized Oct. 25, 1855. Confirmed at New Jerusalem, in Rockland, in 1873 by Rev. d. K. Humbert. He was joined in marriage to Rebecca Carl on Oct. 16, 1878, by Rev. D. K. Humbert. Of three sons and seven daughters, all are living excepting one son, who preceded the father, when almost grown up. The deceased was an elder of the church council, and his name appears frequently with others in the official documents during the time when the new church of 1916 was erected. He served the township of Rockland as constable for many years. After ailing for some time with internal troubles, he was taken to the St. Joseph's hospital, Reading, where he passed away on Thursday, January 25, aged 67 years, 4 months and 12 days. He is survived by his wife, two sons, seven daughter, forty grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Also three sisters, Mary, wife of James Reinert, Pottstown; Mrs. Rebecca Muck, of Reading; and Mrs. Caroline, widow of Wm. W. Miller, of Fredericksville. (Baer) Houck, was born in Colebrookdale Township, Berks County, Pa., November 7, 1872. After an illness of three weeks, God called him home.
Brother Houck was trained in the schools of his own community and was graduated from Kutztown Teachers' College. He taught school for a number of years and later was a bookkeeper for the National Biscuit Company in Reading.
Brother Houck was a charter member of Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church and was always faithful to his church. He was a trustee and the treasurer for many years, which position he held at the time of his death. He had worked on his financial report just a few minutes before his death. He was very much interested in the Sunday school and did much for its advancement, serving as superintendent for many years, which position he also held at death.
Besides his sorrowing widow, Emily, he is survived by an aged father, three sons, Dr. Russel M., of Excelsior Springs, Mo.; Dr. E. Karl, Reading; and Harold E., a medical student at Hahnemann Hospital, Philadelphia; three daughters, Helen, wife of Rev. A. M. Bohn, of Buffalo, N. Y.; E. Isabel, wife of E. G. Freehafer, Mt. Vernon, N. Y.; and Edith, a student at Ursinus College, Collegeville, Pa.; and five grandchildren. There are also a host of friends and relatives who mourn the going of brother Houck, but not without hope.
The funeral services were in charge of the pastor, assisted by Rev. J. S. Heisler, a former pastor. Interment was made at Friedensburg, Pa.

Surviving besides her husband are a daughter Leah, wife of Sheldon Gernert of Kutztown; two sons, Carl of Avener, L.I., N.Y., and Kenneth of Kutztown; 15 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. home on East Jefferson Street, last Wednesday. Services were conducted in

He was employed as a teacher by the Medina County Training Center, Weymouth, Ohio, and was also employed as a housekeeper by the Medina General Hospital for 11 years.
Houseman was a Korean War Army veteran.
He was a member of the UCC Congregational Church, Medina.
Surviving is a sister, Mary C. (Houseman) Hoh, Reading.

She was of the Methodist faith, and was a former member of the former Schuylkill Guild Craftsmen and the Reading/Berks Guild Craftsmen.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Katherine Heffner; a grandson, Matthew Liddle.
Surviving are her husband, Raymond J., Pottsville; a son, David J., at home; a daughter, Kathleen A. Liddle, Pottsville; a sister, Margaret Carres, King of Prussia; two grandsons; nieces and two nephews.
Services will be conducted at the convenience of the family with the Rev. Glen Esler officiating. Interment will be in Schuylkill Memorial Park Inc., Schuylkill Haven. Until retiring in 1984, she was employed as a machine operator by Hamburg Knitting Mill for many years.
Surviving are a daughter, Carole A. (Petery) Adams, Tilden Township, and a son, Glenn H. Petery, Windsor Township.
There are also three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Howe, 89, formerly of Reading, died Aug. 4 in Mifflin Center, Cumru Township, where she had been a patient since June. Born in West Reading, she was a daughter of the late Charles W. and Anna M. (Weinerth) Lebo. Howe had been employed for eight years in the printing department of Reading Eagle Company, retiring in 1943. She was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Reading, where she served on the consistory, was a 50-year member of the choir and was a Sunday school teacher for 50 years. Howe was past treasurer of Church Women United. She was a 1933 graduate of Reading High School. Howe is survived by three grandchildren and two great-grandsons. She was predeceased by a son, Robert R., in January 1997. Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Henninger Funeral Home Inc. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Spring Township. Loretta Dunn Howell, 84, Charlotte, N.C., formerly of Exeter Township, died May 22 at 6:05 p.m. in C&C Medical Center, Pineville, N.C. She was taken there from Sunrise Senior Center, Charlotte, where she had been a patient for eight weeks.
Her husband, Otis H. Howell, died in 1997.
Born in Reading, she was a daughter of the late William and Eva (Hafer) Dunn.
Howell was a member of Lorane Bible Church, Exeter Township.
She was a 1938 graduate of Oley High School.
Howell was a Navy veteran of World War II.
She is survived by a daughter, Joanne H. (Howell) Faber, Harleysville, Montgomery County; and two sons, Bill H., Charlotte, and Thomas L., Exeter Township.
Other survivors include a sister, Anna Mae (Dunn) Hoppes, Oley.
There are also five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Submitted by Nancy.] Atty. William H. Schneller of Catasauqua is in receipt of a telegram from Sylvan Grove, Kansas, informing him of the death of Mrs. Ellen Hower, wife of George H. Hower, a retired agriculturist. Mrs. Hower passed away several days ago in a hospital at Sylvia, Kansas, from the effects of a broken hip sustained in a fall. Mr. Hower, who is Mr. Schneller's maternal uncle, visited the Schnellers and other relatives at Catasauqua two years ago. He was accompanied by his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Hower, and a grandson. last summer while en route to California for the convention of Rotary International, Mr. and Mrs. Schneller spent a day with the Hower family and other relatives at Sylvan Grove. Mrs. Hower, whose maiden name was Ellen Yenser, was a native of Lenhartsville. She was 68 years old. The Hower family emigrated West in the eighties, locating in Central Kansas where they engaged in farming. Others from this locality went West at the same time were John P. Schneller, J. Penrose Grim, Ed Swartz and Ab Oplinger. Besides her husband, Mrs. Hower leaves her mother, who is almost 100 years of age, and makes her home at Lincoln, Neb.; five children and several brothers and sisters, include Mrs. Penrose Grim. Howerter, 83, of Kempton R. 2, a former leader in Berks County agricultural organizations and the first woman in Pennsylvania to head a county extension service, died Sunday in the Laurel Nursing and Retirement center, Hamburg. She was the wife of W. Galen Howerter. They observed their 58th wedding anniversary in March. She was president of the board of directors of the Berks County Agricultural Extension Service, 1959-61. In her more than 20 years on the board, she also served terms as vice president and secretary. She formerly was a district 4-H Club leader in Berks. Mrs. Howerter and her husband operated a dairy farm at their home for many years. A 1921 graduate of Ursinus College, she also was a teacher in Albany Township schools, 1921-25. Born in Albany Township, she was a daughter of the late William and Sallie A. (Loy) Kunkel. She was a member of the Lutheran congregation of New Bethel Union Church, Kempton R. 2, where she was a past president of the church missionary guild. She also taught Sunday School and sang on the church choir for many years. Mrs. Howerter formerly served on the board of the Kutztown Visiting Nursing Association and on the rural committee of Family Service of Berks County. Surviving with her husband are a son, William G., of Kempton R. 2; four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the church. Mr. Howerter was married twice. His first wife, Ella Troxell, preceded him in death. Fraternally he was a member of the P.O.S. of A. Camp at Steinsville and of the Junior Order of United American Mechanics of Kempton. He was a member of the Lutheran congregation of the New Jerusalem church. The deceased was a son of Levi S. and Anna Maria (Fegley) Howerter, and was born in Shamrock, June 3, 1867; baptized July 7, 1867, by Rev. Benjamin E. Kramlich, and confirmed by the same pastor in the Lutheran faith in St. Paul's church, Mertztown. In early life he worked in the local iron ore mines, where he sustained a painful injury to one of his legs. He then became an expert telegrapher. He served last as clerk in the coal and feed office of Claude D. Trexler. There survive one brother, Allen, one sister, Ida, wife of the late Peter Walbert, both of this place. In his youth he was employed in the ore mines in that section and later became a telegraph operator. He is survived by a brother and sister, Alvin, and Mrs. Ida Walbert, both of Shamrock. For 59 consecutive years he was employed there. At the age of 11 years it was necessary for Hoyer to find employment to support his mother. For many years he worked on the night shift, his mother taking him to work, using a lantern for light. Death followed a brief illness of pneumonia. He was a son of the late William and Harriet (Kline) Hoyer. Six years ago his eyesight was impaired by sparks while fighting a fire. Services were held for John E. Hoyer, 81, of Rittenhouse Drive, Exeter Township, who died August 4 in Reading Hospital.
He was the husband of Lucille D. (Buck) Hoyer.
Born in Reading, he was employed for 21 years as a bus driver by the Reading Bus Co. and for 12 years as a truck driver by Delaware Valley Safe Guards, Leesport.
He was also employed for 11 years as a driver by Klein Bus Service, Douglassville, and then for three years by Reading Hospital's shuttle service, last working August 4.
Hoyer was a 1942 graduate of Reading High School and an Army veteran of World War II.
Hoyer was a member of First Evangelical Congregational Church, Reading, where he was a member of the church's governing board and a former steward, trustee and Sunday school teacher and superintendent.
He was a past president of the Rosedale Grove Association, Laureldale.
Hoyer is also survived by two daughters, Susan J. (Hoyer) Leinbach, Exeter Township, and Diane L. Hoyer, Mount Penn; and a son, John D., Northmont.
Other survivors include five granddaughters. two stepgrandsons and six great-grandchildren.
Burial was in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Reiffton.

Masters post of the American Legion will accord military honors when the body of Pfc. Stephen Hregician, formerly of Alburtis, is brought to Topton for burial. Pfc. Hregician, killed in action in Luxemburg on Feb. 7, 1945, lived in Alburtis when he was inducted into the army in March 1944. After training at Camp Wheeler, he was sent overseas and joined an infantry unit in General Patton's Third Army. He was 30 years old when he died. Before entering service he was employed at the Fogelsville plant of the Lehigh Portland Cement Co. He was a son of Esther and the late Andrew Hregician. Surviving are his wife, the former Anna M. Mrs. Huber helped operate the family's 112-acre farm near Wescosville for many years before her husband retired in 1965. The family was known throughout Lehigh County for its contributions fo the 4-H Club. Born in Maxatawny Township, she was a daughter of the late Edward D. and Minnie (Batz) Stein. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Macungie. Mrs. Huber was a past officer of the Macungie Grange and a teacher at the former East Texas Bible School for more than 40 years. Surviving with her husband are a daughter Joyce, wife of Albert Rothrock of Macungie; four sons, Wilbur of East Greenville, Clarence of Allentown, Raymond of Macungie and LeRoy of Sellersville; a sister, Mrs. Bertha Reis of Allentown; four brothers, C. Moses of Mertztown, Frank of Allentown, Clinton of North East, Me., and Edward of Akron, Ohio; 14 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the church. Submitted by Jerri.] Fred W. Huber, a postmaster, businessman and justice of the peace in the Upper Perkiomen Valley, died unexpectedly Saturday at his home in Hereford. He was 74. Death was caused by a heart attack, according to Mrs. Catharine Hiestand of Hereford, deputy Berks County coroner. Huber complained of a pain in his shoulder during the day. After supper, he said he had a pain in his chest. Several minutes later, he sat down on a wooden chest in the kitchen and died. Huber was postmaster at Hereford from 1906 to 1951, when he retired. He managed a general store during those years in the same building that housed the post office, about a half block from the intersection of the presents Routes 29 and 100. His home was nearby. He was also justice of the peace in Hereford for many years. Huber had an extensive library. He read avidly and gained the reputation among his store customers as a man who could talk with authority on anything from wild flowers to history. Like many of his neighbors in the Upper Perkiomen region, he spoke both English and Pennsylvania Dutch. A native of Corning, Lehigh County, he was a son of the late Ambrose and Hannah (Fegley) Huber. He was married to Mrs. Louisa S. (Ziegler) Huber, who preceded him in death. In his early years, he attended Perkiomen School at Pennsburg, then later was graduated from Peirce Business School in Philadelphia. For three years he taught in the public school at Chapel, Berks County. Then he moved to Hereford where he stayed the rest of his days. He was a member of new Goshenhoppen Evangelical and Reformed Church, Pennsburg, and a former superintendent of its Sunday school. Surviving are two daughters, Mary, wife of LeRoy Huber, Hereford, and Rachel R., wife of Harold G. Kriebel, at home; four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. A memorial service was held for LeRoy M. Huber, 90, of Chestnut Street in Hereford, who died January 25 in his home.
He was the widower of Mary Ann (Huber) Huber.
Born in Niantic, he was a molder for the Eastern Foundry in Boyertown for more than 30 years, retiring in 1974.
He was a former school board president for Hereford in the 1950s.
Surviving are three daughters, Ann Louise Moser of Hereford, Harriet Hein of Palm and Judith Miller of Gordonville, Lancaster County.
Also one brother, 10 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Emily Huber.

Burial was in New Goshenhoppen Cemetery in East Greenville.

He was the husband of Alma (Troutman) Huber.
Born in Essex, MD, he was a son of Daniel J. Huber, Essex, and the late Edna (Ruth) Huber.
Huber had been employed for 33 years by AT&T, working at both the Baltimore and Reading facilities, retiring in 1990.
He was a Navy veteran.
Huber also is survived by two daughters, Royce (Huber) Treadaway and Lisa (Huber) Harford, both of Baltimore.
Other survivors include a sister; a brother and five grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Holly Hills Cemetery, Essex.

Born in Utica, she was a daughter of Lavinia (DelMonte) Russo and the late Nicholas D. Russo.
Hudack worked as a financial analyst for Sanchez Computer Associates in Malvern.
She earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from City University in New York.
Surviving in addition to her mother and husband of 13 years are one daughter, Marlena Riddell; two sons, Daniel and Stephen Riddell, all of Pennsylvania.
Also two sisters, several stepchildren; and four step-grandchildren.

Huet was employed as a pianist and vocalist in various clubs and eating establishments in New York City from the late 1940's to the early 1960's.
She was a member of Zion (Lehigh) Lutheran Church, Alburtis, Lehigh County.
Huet was a graduate of Moravian College, Bethlehem.
Surviving are several cousins.

Genevieve M. Hufnagle, 87, of Quakertown Center, Genesis Eldercare, formerly of Sellersville, died Thursday, Jan. 16, 2003.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Jan. 21. Interment was in St. Agnes Cemetery, Sellersville.
She was the wife of the late Joseph E. "Poppa Joe" Hufnagle Sr., Sellersville's former mayor and fire chief.
Born in Woonsocket, R.I., she was a daughter of the late William and Bertha (Lowry) Warrington. She had moved to Sellersville as a child and had spent the majority of her life there, before moving to Quakertown Center five years ago.
Before raising her family, she had worked for the former Conte Luna Macaroni Factory, Sellersville, and was also employed as a seamstress for the former Penn Pants Factory, Sellersville. Along with her husband, she had owned and operated the former Sellersville News Agency from 1963 to 1971. She continued to deliver newspapers with her husband until 1974.
She was a long time member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, Sellersville.
She is survived by: four sons, Joseph E. Hufnagle Jr., Thomas C. Hufnagle, David Hufnagle and John Hufnagle, all of Sellersville; three daughters, Mary Hufnagle, Kathleen Trumbore, both of Sellersville, and Patricia Guarino of Edison, N.J.; one sister, Mary Ellen Warrington, of St. Cloud, Fla.; 17 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, James, in 1995, a granddaughter, Mary Elizabeth, a brother, Harold Warrington, and two sisters, Alyce Warrington and Berthe Warrington.

Three sons and a son in-law served as bearers at the funeral of Henry Hullinger which took place from his residence, 200 Wood street. Rev. F.K. Huntzinger conducted the services. The remains were attired in a black suit and reposed in a square-cornered oak casket, with silver trimmings, extension [b]ar handles and plate bearing name and age. The bearers were William, Howard and Harold Hullinger and Frank W. Eben. Among the tributes were: Pillow, widow; galax wreath and carnations, Mr. and Mrs. DeBoser; carnations, sister Sue and husband; galax wreath and lillies-of-the-valley, Mr. Clouser and family; galax wreath, daughter Kate and grandson Benjamin; carnations, son Howard and family; carnations, daughter Emma and husband; carnations, Mrs. Alice Neidley; broken wheel, the boys; blanket, son William and family. Interment took place in Charles Evans Cemetery. Undertaker T.C. Auman had charge.

Daniel Humbert died of the infirmities of old age at 5 a.m., at his residence, 411 South 4th, aged 84 years. He was ailing one year and was bedfast 9 months.
Deceased was born in Kutztown and lived in this city nearly all his life.
He was engaged as a chairmaker at his home up to 17 years ago, when he retired owing to ill health. His wife, Lucy, died 17 years ago. Deceased was a member of St. Matthew's church. The following children survive: Wm. S., Mrs. George Mannerback, Mrs. James Dickison and Miss Lucy J. Humbert, together with 18 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Rev. David K. Humbert, of Bowers, died at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon. Just as the bells of the Bowers Church stopped ringing for the afternoon services, Rev. Humbert breathed his last. He was in his sixty-ninth year. Since 1902, when he retired from the ministry, he had not been in the best of health. Rev. Humbert was born in Greenwich township. He secured a position in the general store of Daniel Fetherolf, in Albany township, and as currier in a tannery. He began teaching at Klinesville and Fetherolfsville. On November 12, 1862, he was mustered into the service of Company I, 167th Pennsylvania Regiment. He was first sergeant of his company. August 12, 1863, he re-enlisted until the close of war. He entered the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia, from which he graduated in June, 1867. His first charge was at Robeson Church, at Geigertown; St. John's, at Gilbralter; Allegheny and Wyomissing. In 1872 he took the DeLong charge, comprising DeLong's at Bowers, New Jerusalem, Huff's Church and St. Paul's. He married 1,006 couples. Rev. Humbert was married to Maria DeLong, daughter of Francis and Esther (Schafer) DeLong, and besides the widow three children remain: Essie, wife of Dr. E. D. Schaffer, Reading; Mary Elizabeth, wife of Alfred Ayers, and Anna Susanna, at home. A sister, Amelia, wife of Ephraim Wise, also remains.

The remains of Mrs. Marie Elizabeth Humbert, of Bowers, were laid at rest alongside those of her husband, the late Rev. D. K. Humbert, who passed away nine years ago, on Monday, March 27, at 2.30 p.m. She was a daughter of Francis DeLong and wife Esther (nee Schaeffer) and was born in Maxatawny township on August 15, 1843. She was baptized by Rev. Charles Herman on October 15, 1843. In early life she was confirmed in the Christ DeLong's Reformed church at Bowers. On September 29, 1868, she was joined in marriage to Rev. David Kittling Humbert by Rev. B. D. Sweizig. The three daughters of this union survive: Essie, wife of the late Dr. D. E. Schaeffer, of Reading; Elizabeth, wife of Alfred S. Ayers, both residing in the parental homestead, and Anna, wife of Rev. R. B. Lynch, of Kutztown. There remain also three brothers: Joseph, of Topton; Winfield, of Bowers, and the Rev. John F. DeLong, D.D., of Bethlehem. She shared the joys and sorrows of her husband during a long and arduous pastorate. She passed away from the infirmities of age on Wednesday, March 22, at 1.20 p.m., aged 78 years, 7 months and 7 days.

Mrs. Maria Elizabeth Humbert, widow of Rev. D. K. Humbert, of Bowers, died on Wednesday at 1.20 p.m., aged 78 years, 7 months and 7 days. Her sister, Esther DeLong was buried a week ago, and the two were very much attached to each other. The shock of her sister’s death hastened the demise of Mrs. Humber. She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Esther Schaeffer, Elizabeth, wife of A. S. Ayers, and Anna, wife of Rev. R. B. Lynch, of Kutztown; three brothers, Joseph DeLong, of Topton; Winfield DeLong, of Bowers, and Rev. John DeLong, of Bethlehem; and two grandchildren. The funeral will be held on Monday at 2.15 p.m. All services will be held at the house. Rev. W. F. Bond, of Shamrock, and Rev. G. B. Smith, of town, will officiate.

Bessie Louise Hummel, 83, Richland Hills, Texas, formerly of Reading, died July 7 in Ashwood Assisted Living, Richland Hills. Her husband, Kenneth W. Hummel, died in July 1989. Born in Reading, she was a daughter of the late George and Sara (Brossman) Gaul. Hummel is survived by a son, Kenneth, Fort Worth, Texas. There are also two grandsons and one great-granddaughter. Services will be Monday at 11:30 a.m. in the chapel at Greenwood Funeral Home, Fort Worth. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Park, Fort Worth.

Earl W Hummel, 72 of 119 Warren St, died Monday at 2:53 p.m. shortly after arrival in Community General Hospital. He was husband of Emma G (Guiles) Hummel.
Born in Hyde Park, he was a son of the late Raymond and Letty (Seidel) Hummel. Hummel, a Navy veteran of World War II, was employed by the former Continental Can Co. as a truck driver for 18 years, retiring in 1981. Prior to that, he was employed as a bus driver for 18 years by the former Reading Company.
He served as president and vice president of the 15th Ward Democratic Club between 1970 and 1980.
Other survivors include two sons, Richard E and Robert P both of Reading; a sister Gladys wife of Harry I Boyer, Wernersville; and five brothers; Roy, resident of Temple; Randall, Reading; Stanley, Topton; Ralston, Wyomissing; and Gordon, Reiffton. There are also eight grandchildren and three great-grand children. He was Predeceased by a son Thomas A.

Mrs. Ellen R. Hummel, 63, a former resident of Maxatawny township, Berks county, died yesterday at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Herber, Hamburg R. 2. She was a daughter of the late Jacob and Emma (Hummel) Kershner, and was born in Richmond township, Berks county. She was a member of the Lutheran wing of Dunkels church. Surviving are two children, Clarence Jr., Kutztown; Anna, wife of Lloyd Herber; four grandchildren, and a brother, Harry, of Hamburg R. 2. Rev. Ira Klick will officiate at services to be held Monday at 1:30 p.m. from the late home. Continued services and burial at Dunkels church.

Emma G. Hummel, 84, formerly of Reading, died April 4 in St. Joseph Medical Center, where she had been a patient since March 30. She was taken to the medical center from Beverly Healthcare of Reading, Exeter Township, where she had resided 21/2 years. Her husband,, Earl W. Hummel, died April 1, 1992. Born in Reading, she was a daughter of the late John H. and Mary L. (Ringler) Guiles. Hummel was employed as a bounder by Arnold's Bookbindery, Reading, and was last employed for several years as a packer by King Kup-Schoener Candy Inc., West Reading. She was a member of St. Mark's United Church of Christ, Reading. Hummel was a 1938 graduate of Reading High School. Surviving are two sons, Richard E. and Robert P., both of Reading. Other survivors include a brother, Barry L. Guiles, Reading; and three sisters: Pauline (Guiles) Harakal, Hatboro, Montgomery County; MaryLou (Guiles) Yergey, Melbourne, Fla.; and Janice E. (Guiles) Wolf, Reading. There are also nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Thomas A. Hummel, in 1977. Services were held for Evelyn M. Hummel, 88, of Birdsboro, formerly of Exeter, who died June 2 in her home. She was the widow of Monroe G. Hummel. Born in Reading, she worked as a waitress at the former W. T. Grants in Reading before retiring. Hummel was a member of Exeter Bible Church in Birdsboro. Surviving are two sons, Brian S. Hummel, with whom she lived, and Neil S. Hummel of Geigertown; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Davis S. Hummel. Contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Endowment Fund, Berks County Office of the Aging, 633 Court St., Reading, PA 19601. Burial was in Pleasant View Cemetery in Sinking Spring. The arrangements were handled by the Lutz Funeral Home, Reading.

John E. Hummel, 86, of 19 s. 3rd St., Lehighton, a former manufacturer of cigars and restaurant manager, died at 3 p.m. Saturday at his home. He had been in ill health four months. Born at Longswamp, Berks county, Hummel was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Hummel. His wife, the former Elmira S. Schultz, preceded him in death three years ago. The father of Burgess William F. Hummel, he retired in Dec. 1942 from the cigar business and restaurant management after some 35 years. He was a member of the Lehigh Fire Co. No. 1, Lehighton POSA, Trinity Lutheran church and its Brotherhood. Surviving is a daughter, Mrs. William Weyhenmeyer, Lehighton, and four sons, Burgess William; George E., Philadelphia; Marvin O., Lehighton, and Paul of York. Four grandchildren also survive.

Ruth A. Hummel, 90, Spring Township, formerly of Kenhorst, died March 30 at 4:30 p.m. in Berks Heim Annex, where she had resided since Dec. 19, 2003. Her husband, Marlin J. Hummel, died Sept. 4, 1993. Born in Reading, she was a daughter of the late Charles E. and Eva May (Troxel) Hubler. Hummel was employed for more than 25 years as a waitress by the Green Valley Country Club, Lower Heidelberg Township, until her retirement. Surviving are a son, Charles W., Whitfield; and two daughters, Shirley M. (Hummel) Wojnarowski, Harrisburg, and Marlene R. (Hummel) Calabria, Boulder, Colo. Other survivors include a brother, Eugene Hubler, Exeter Township. There are also 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Services will be private. Entombment will be in Laureldale Cemetery Mausoleum, Tuckerton. The Klee Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Shillington, is in charge of arrangements.

Samuel Hummel, for many years a farmer in Greenwich township, Berks county, died at the home of his son-in-law, John Mertz, near Monterey, yesterday afternoon at the age of eighty-eight years. He was born in Greenwich township, the son of the late Solomon and Rebecca, nee Spohn, Hummel, and was a resident of the vicinity all his life. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Addison Seip, of Robesonia, eleven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. His wife, Anna, nee Heffner, Hummel, preceded him in death several years ago. Funeral services will be held from the home of his son-in-law, John Mertz, on Monday afternoon at 1.30 o'clock. Continued services will be conducted in the Grimsville church. Rev. Ira Klick and Rev. W. S. Dry will officiate. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery.

Henry M. Hummer died at his home in Reading at the age of 75 years. Death followed an illness of five weeks. He was a native of Broadway, N.J., a son of the late Mahlon and Susanna Hummer. There survive these children: Ezra, Philadelphia; Raymond, Reading; Bertram, Orogrande, Cal.; Jesse, Harry and William, Reading, and Mrs. Minnie Weikel, Breinigsville; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Bedfast two months, Mrs. Andora Hunsberger, widow of James Hunsberger, died at 6 o'clock last night at her home, 550 N. 3rd St., Emmaus, aged 86 years, 3 months and 27 days. Mrs. Hunsberger was born in Oley, Berks county, a daughter of the late Benjamin and Hannah (Desch) Hausman. She was a respected resident of Emmaus for 30 years. Surviving are two daughters and a son, Mrs. Walter Weidner, Mrs. Edwin Muth and Elmer Hunsberger, all of Emmaus; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral arrangements will be completed today.

Services were held for Harold G. Hunsberger, 92, who died in the Masonic Homes in Elizabethtown on March 7. He was the widower of Arline (Hirsch) Hunsberger, to whom he was married for 53 years. She died in 1993. Hunsberger was born in Gilbertsville and was a long time resident of Gwynedd Valley and later moved to the Masonic Homes in 1993. He graduated from Boyertown Area High School in 1926 and West Chester University in 1930 and received his Masters in Business Administration from the Wharton Business School at the University of Pennsylvania. Hunsberger served in the US Army during WWII. A CPA, Hunsberger was in public accounting for more than 20 years until practicing in private industry. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Lansdale. Prior to the forming of the Wissahickon School District, he served as a school board member for the Borough of Ambler, Lower Gwynedd and Whitpain Townships. Surviving is a son, Harold "Skip" Hunsberger, Kennett Square. Also a sister, a niece and a brother-in-law. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in his memory to Trinity Lutheran Church, Lansdale. The arrangements were handled by the Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home, Lansdale.

Services were held for John A. Hunsberger, 85, of Venice, Florida, who died October 28 in Bon Secours Venice Hospital, Venice, Florida. He was the husband of Lillian C. Hertzog and was predeceased by his first wife, Mary (Stengel) Hunsberger. Born in New Berlinville, he was employed as a truck dispatcher for Hess' Distribution Center in Allentown for 30 years. He was a life member of Knights of Columbus; life member of Friendship Hook & Ladder Co., Boyertown and Liberty Fire Co., New Berlinville. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter Linda M. Endy, North Port, Florida and step-daughter, Patricia Dengler, Allentown. Also two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and a brother, Gordon Hunsberger, Boyertown. Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. The arrangements were handled by the Trexler Funeral Home Inc., Allentown.

Services for Olive N. Hunsberger, formerly of Laureldale, were held in Walter R. Christ Funeral Home Inc., Laureldale. Burial will be in Laureldale Cemetery, Tuckerton. Hunsberger died Feb. 28 in St. Joseph Medical Center, where she was a patient six days. She was taken there from Grandview Manor, Ruscombmanor Township. She was predeceased by her husband, Stuart H. Hunsberger, on March 16, 2000. Born in Kempton, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Mabel (Schroeder) Kunkel. Until retiring in 1970, Hunsberger was employed by Reading Electric Coil Service, Temple. She was previously employed by the Berkshire Knitting Mills, Wyomissing, as an examiner. Hunsberger was a member of Grace (Alsace) United Church of Christ, Hyde Park. She is survived by two sisters, Hilda (Kunkel) Fox, Kempton, and Lillian (Kunkel) Kosman, Northampton.

Mrs. Amanda Hunsicker, aged 43, of Lebanon, at Phila. Deceased was a daughter of Charles and Mary Barbara Reinoehl. Some years ago she was married to Joseph Hunsicker, of Slatington, Lehigh county, who died some time afterward from the effects of a horse kick which he received while feeding a horse. She is survived by her mother, son, Walter, and three brothers and sisters: Albert and Jonathan Reinoehl, in California; Theo. Reinoehl, in Colorado; a step-brother, Lorenzo Reinoehl, of Tower City, and a step-sister, Mrs. Backus, who resides in Phila.

Mrs. Annie L. Hunsicker, 68, of 266 S. 4th St. Hamburg, formerly of Lenhartsville, died Tuesday in Reading Hospital. Her husband, Homer S. Hunsicker, died in 1957. Surviving are three daughters: Mildred, wife of Charles Miller, of Lewisburg, Union County; Lillian, wife of Ernest Muth, of Germansville; and Shirley, of Lenhartsville R. 1; three sons, Forrest, of Blandon; Robert, of Topton; and Marlin, of Hamburg; 13 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in the Burkey and Spacht Funeral home, 40 S. 4th St., Hamburg. Calling hours will be 7-9 p.m. Thursday.

A service will be held for Brian A. "Dead Dog" Hunsicker, 46, of Old Philadelphia Pike, Douglassville, who died February 22 at a friend's residence in Earlville. He was the husband of Marianne (Banos) Wengert Hunsicker. Born in Norristown, he served in the Army. Hunsicker was a member of the Oasis Club and the Manatawny Association, both in Pottstown; St. Gabriel's Lodge in Stowe; and the Reading Motorcycle Club. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Harry Pup Hunsicker and Maxwell Hunsicker, both of Douglassville; one stepson, Craig Robert Kulp of Douglassville; one stepdaughter, Jennifer Kulp Haynes of Douglassville. Also a brother, three sisters and six grandchildren. Contributions may be made to the Berks County Humane Society, 1801 N. 11th St., Reading, PA 19603. A service will be held March 9 at 1 p.m. in the Oasis Club, 62 High St., Pottstown. Burial will be private. The arrangements were handled by the Warker-Troutman Funeral Home in Pottstown.

She was born in Greenwich township, Berks county, a daughter of the late William and Judith (Oldt) Schlenker. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Kutztown. Surviving are three sons: Walter J., of Reading; Victor A., of West Leesport; John C., of Fleetwood; five daughters, Helen E., wife of Emer Wagner, of Hamburg; Florence J., wife of warren Haas, of Allentown; Verna M., wife of Paul Snyder, of Kutztown; Beulah C., wife of Willis Feick, Kutztown; and Arline E., wife of Russell Bridge, Bloomfield, N.J. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, three brothers, peter Schlenker, Kutztown R.D; Chester Schlenker, Topton; Alvin Schlenker, Allentown; and three sisters, Mrs. Annie Gehringer, Macungie; Mrs. Beulah Gorr, East Texas; and Mrs. Mattie Moatz, Allentown. Mrs. Olive M. Hunsicker, 64, of 128 W. Washington St., Fleetwood, died yesterday morning in Reading Hospital. She was the wife of John C. Hunsicker. Born in Fleetwood, Mrs. Hunsicker was a daughter of the late Oscar and Sue (Schaeffer) Brown. She was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Fleetwood. Surviving with her husband are a daughter, Dorothy J., wife of Earl A. Trexler of Topton, and a granddaughter. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the Earl A. Trexler Funeral Home, 25 E. Weiss St., Topton, with viewing 7-8:30 p.m. tomorrow.

Charles H. Hunter, 83, a retired blacksmith, formerly of Macungie R. 1, died Friday night at Allentown Hospital, where he had been a patient for about a week. Born in Oley Township, Berks County, he was a son of the late Daniel and Esther (Shafer) Hunter. He was a member of the UCC congregation at Huff's Union Church, Barto R. 1. He became a blacksmith when he was 15 and thereafter operated Hunter's Forge near Siesholtzville until he retired several years ago. He was married to the late Elmira Y. (Siesholtz) Hunter, who died in 1931. Surviving are three daughters, Edna, wife of Fred A. Reinert, with whom Hunter last resided at Barto R. 1; Jennie, wife of Elmer F. Heffner, Barto R. 1, and Elva S. Hunter, Mertztown R. 1; two sons, Elam D., of emmaus, and David S., of Macungie R. 1; 18 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Earl A. Trexler Funeral Home, 25 E. Weiss St., Topton. Calling hours are from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Elmira (Seisholtz) Hunter, wife of Charles Hunter, died of dropsy at her home at Huff's Church on Monday night, aged 56 years, 3 months and 21 days. Beside the husband, she is survived by the following children: James, Allentown; Edna, wife of Fred Reimert; Jennie, wife of Elmer Heffner, both of Huff's Church; Elan, Emaus; David, Seisholtzville; Florence and Elva, at home. There are also ten grandchildren and the following sisters and brothers: David, Youngstown, Ohio; Jacob, Allentown; Abraham, Bethlehem; Mrs. Abraham Gerhart, Boyertown; Mrs. Sallie Moyer, Yellow House, and Mrs. F. N. Benfield, Huff's Church. One son and one daughter preceded her in death. The funeral will be held on Saturday afternoon at 1.30, daylight time, from her late home, with continued services in Huff's church and interment in the adjoining cemetery. Rev. W. F. Bond will officiate.

Miss Esther Hunter, of Macungie R. 2, died Tuesday at 1.10 p.m., at the Sacred Heart hospital, aged 24 years. Miss Hunter, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hunter, was admitted to the hospital on Monday for surgical treatment.

Esther Hunter, Macungie R. 2, died Tuesday at the Sacred Heart hospital, aged 24 years. She was admitted to the hospital on Monday for surgical treatment. Miss Hunter was the daughter of Charles and Ella, nee Seisholtz, Hunter and was a member of the Reformed congregation and Sunday school of Huffs church. She is survived by the parents and the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Fred Reinert and Mrs. Elmer Heffner, Huffs Church; Elam, Emaus; David, Florence and Elva, at home. The funeral will be held on Saturday afternoon at 1.30 o'clock from her late home, Macungie R. 2.

Matthew Hunter, aged 74 years, died Sunday evening at 10 o'clock at his residence in Reading, of the heat and prostration. Deceased was born in Ireland and came to this country forty-eight years ago, first settling in Allentown. He moved to Reading six years ago, working there as a laborer up to two years ago, since when he has lived a retired life. He was in his usual good health Sunday night and went upstairs apparently to retire. When his wife went upstairs, she found him lying on the floor gasping for breath. She spoke to him and he looked up at her and expired. He is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.

Reuben Hunter, sr., the aged father of the late Frank Hunter, who was a member of the firm of Yeager &smp; Hunter, large stove manufacturers, died last night of old age and general debility. His age was 80 years, 3 months and 23 days. He was a life-long member of the M. E. church. Five daughters, Miss Effie Hunter, Mrs. Grant Kolb, Mrs. Nettie Angusberg, Mrs. Clara Goshont, Mrs. Emma Rubert, and two sons, Harry and Willis Hunter, survive.
Funeral on Friday, at 1 o'clock. Interment at Zion's cemetery.

Robesonia: Jared Huntzinger, of near Cushion Hill, was buried at Sinking Spring. All of the 11 children with their families were in attendance except William, who is at Williamsport, Ind. Many friends were present in spite of threatening weather. The remains were encased in a handsome walnut casket with the inscription on the plate: "Our Father." Wolfensperger, of Wernersville, had charge and Rev. B. D. Zweizig officiated.

Harold H. Huseman, 70, a retired railroad worker, died Tuesday in his home on Railroad Street, Lyons Station. He was the husband of Frieda I. (Fields) Huseman. Huseman worked on the railroad bed repair crew for the Reading Co. until his retirement five years ago. Born in Carbon County, he was a son of the late Henry and Sybilla (Christman) Huseman. He was a member of the Evangelical Temple of Reading. Surviving with his widow are a daughter Frances, wife of Sterling Wartzenluft of Kutztown R. 3; a sister Sadilla, wife of Charles Trayer, of Reading; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the William S. Fritz Funeral Home in Kutztown. Calling hours are 7-8:30 p.m. Friday.

Henry Huseman, native of Germany but a resident of the United States since childhood, died yesterday at his home, Lyons, Berks county. He was 79 years old last Thursday. Son of the late August and Caroline, nee Linka, Huseman, he is survived by his wife, the former Sabilla Christman, and the following children: Sylvania, wife of Theodore Berger, Kutztown; Hardworth, Kutztown; Harling, Geigertown; Harold, Lyons; and Sadilla, wife of Charles Trayer, Reading. Three sisters, Mrs. George Hawk, Wellsboro; Mrs. Henry Detweiler, Beagon, N.Y.; Mrs. Mahlon Beans, Merchantville, N.J.; a brother, Charles Huseman, East Mauch Chunk, 18 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, also survive. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Fritz funeral home, 55 Noble St., Kutztown, with Rev. William H. Kline officiating. Interment will be in Fairview cemetery.

Maximin J. "Max" Hussar Jr., 66, of Hotel Fleetwood, which he owned and operated for 22 years, died Sunday in St. Joseph Hospital, Reading. He was the husband of Catherine (Long) Hussar. Hussar, who retired in 1978, previously was co-owner of the former Hussar's Hotel, Bethlehem. Born in Bethlehem, he was a son of the late Maximin and Anna (Fritz) Hussar. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Kutztown, and a sir knight of Council 793 and a 4th degree member of Pius IX Assembly, Knights of Columbus, Reading. He was a past president and trustee of the Berks County Tavern Association. Surviving with his widow are two daughters, Bonnie, wife of Richard Santangelo of Fleetwood; and Maxine Kuzman of Macungie; a son, Maximin J. III of Reading; two brothers, Robert of Allentown and Carl of Tucson, Ariz.; three sisters, Marie, wife of John Glassner, of Greentown, Pike County; Louise, wife of Louis Romanell of Bethlehem; and Theresa Hudzine of Fair View Lakes, N.J.; and 10 grandchildren. Services at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Walter R. Christ Funeral Home, 3300 Kutztown Road, Laureldale, will be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 in Holy Guardian Angels Catholic Church, Hyde Park. Services will be Thursday for William I. Hutt, 84, of Little Road, Upper Frederick Township, Montgomery County, who died March 17 in Pottstown Medical Center. He was the husband of Eva L. (Mazur) Hutt. Born in Perkiomenville, he was a grinder at the former Doehler-Jarvis in Pottstown for 30 years before retiring. He and his wife had an antiques and house goods stand at the Perkiomenville Sale for many years and worked on the family farm in Perkiomenville his entire life. He served in the Army during World War II. Hutt was a member of the Upper Frederick and Gilbertsville fire companies. He is also survived by a son, William D. Hutt of Perkiomenville; five sisters, Elizabeth (Hutt) Brown of Gilbertsville, Stella (Hutt) McKinney of Sugarland, Texas, Mary Louise (Hutt) McRorie of Lexington, Va., Bertha (Hutt) Eyler of Silver Spring, Md., and Beulah Hutt of Perkiomenville; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters. Contributions may be made to the church or charity of one's choice. A viewing will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday at the Morrell Funeral Home, 124 W. Philadelphia Ave., Boyertown. Services will be at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Charles H. Charles W. Huyett, 93, Reading, died May 30 at 8:36 a.m. in St. Joseph Medical Center. He was the husband of E. Lucile (Metzger) Miller Huyett. His first wife, Pearl E. (Leas) Huyett, died Dec. 4, 1980. Born in Reading, he was a son of the late Charles W. and Stella (Batz) Huyett. Huyett had been employed for 36 years as a locomotive engineer by Reading Co., retiring July 30, 1976. He served on the board of directors for Locomotive Engineers Division 75 of the Reading Co. There are no additional survivors. Private services will be in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home Inc., West Reading. Entombment will be in Laureldale Cemetery Mausoleum, Tuckerton.

Services were held for Daniel G. Huyett, 80, of Hollywood Avenue, Mount Penn, who died April 28 at the Berkshire Center, Exeter Township, where he had resided for three years. He was the husband of Margaret M. (Kucas) Huyett. Born in Fleetwood, he was employed for 42 years as a conversion metallurgist by Carpenter Technology Corp., until his retirement. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War. Huyett was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Fleetwood. He is also survived by a son, Daniel V., Elkton, Md., and a daughter, Danelle V. (Huyett) Colistra, Amsterdam, N.Y. Other survivors include a sister and four grandchildren. The Lutz Funeral Home Inc., Mount Penn, handled the arrangements. Burial was in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Reiffton.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Rebecca S. Huyett, 85, of 936 Cherry, who died in St. Joseph's Hospital, will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Aulenbach's Cemetery. Arrangements are in charge of the Lutz Funeral Home. Mrs. Huyetts is survived by her husband, Huron Huyett; a sister, Mrs. Catherine Scott, Miami Beach, Fla; and several neices and nephews.
(Note: Rebecca was the daughter of Franklin and Mary Ann Engelhart Weitzel. She married Huron Huyett 1902 Berks County Pennsylvania.)

May K. Hynes, 92, Allentown, formerly of Reading, died Aug. 11 at 3:15 a.m. in St. Luke's Hospital, Allentown. Her husband, Eugene J. Hynes Jr., died Dec. 15, 2002. Born in Reading, she was a daughter of the late Jacob and Bessie (Ringler) Kaufmann. Hynes had been employed for 20 years by predecessors of Meridian Bank, Reading, working in branch administration and retiring in 1972. She was a member of Zion's United Church of Christ, Reading, where she was past treasurer. Hynes is survived by a daughter, Linda M. (Burkhart) Merkey, with whom she last resided; and two sons, Jack A. Burkhart, Charlotte, N.C., and Charles A. Burkhart, Detroit. Other survivors include a stepson, Eugene J. Hynes Jr., Camp Hill, Cumberland County; a stepdaughter, Mary E. (Hynes) Hofmann, Mohnton; and a sister, Marion (Kaufmann) Schroeder, Allentown. There are also 12 grandchildren, seven stepgrandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and five stepgreat-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter, Kathryn I. (Burkhart) Geiger, in 1976, and a stepdaughter, Joanne H. (Hynes) Huyett, in 1999. Services will be Monday at 10 a.m. in Lutz Funeral Home Inc., Mount Penn. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Reiffton.
