Zacharias - In Muhlenberg, on December 18th, Catharine (Rothermel) widow of John Zacharias, aged 78 years, 3 months and 17 days.

John I. Zaring, 79, Wyomissing, died May 1 at 7:21 a.m. in Reading Hospital. He was the husband of Doris M. (Trate) Zaring. Born in Reading, he was a son of the late Irvin and Edna (Adams) Zaring. Zaring was president of Metals Engineering Co., Leesport, from 1983 until his retirement in 1993. He joined the company as a salesman in 1961. He previously worked in sales for Brush Wellman. He was a member of Atonement Lutheran Church, Wyomissing. Zaring was a 1944 graduate of Reading High School and a 1948 graduate of the McCann School of Business, Reading. He was an Army veteran of World War II. In 1996, Zaring was elected honorary life member of the Reading and Berks Basketball Old-timers, where he served as corresponding secretary. He was co-founder of the Lincoln Park Golf League. Zaring is also survived by two sons, Jedd A., Lynchburg, Va., and John R., Los Angeles. Other survivors include two sisters, Ruth (Zaring) Mench, Reading, and Miriam (Zaring) Stutzman, Centreville, Md.; and two stepsisters, Kathryn (Reinhart) Eppihimer and Betty (Reinhart) Miller, both of Reading. There are also four grandchildren. Memorial services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Atonement Lutheran Church. Private burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Reiffton. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home Inc., West Reading, is in charge of arrangements.

Another of Kutztown's most prominent business men, Charles G. Zehm, died on Friday evening last of dropsy and weakness of the heart, aged 70 years. He was born in Herzberg, North Germany, in 1832. He was connected with the Kutztown Foundry & Machine Works for almost 40 years. Six years ago he sold his stock to his brother Fred, and since then lived retired. When young he learned the trade of machinist in Germany, and then worked for 40 cents per day. By faithful labor he earned enough to come to America. He landed in New York penniless, but soon secured employment, which later enabled him to go to Reading, where he worked in the Johnson machine works. He saved his money, and this enabled him later to buy stock in the Kutztown Foundry & Machine Works. He was quite an extensive traveler, and made three or four trips to Germany. He returned from his last trip to that country, whither he had gone for the benefit of his health, only a week ago. He is survived by two adopted daughters, Mary and Amelia, and two brothers, Frederick S., of Kutztown, and William, of Ohio. His wife preceded him in death two years ago.

Dr. Richard Franklin Zehner, 84, Orwigsburg, Schuylkill County, died April 3 at 12:45 p.m. while visiting a friend in Exeter Township. His wife, Ruth A. (Dersch) Zehner, died July 31, 1992. Born in Reading, he was a son of the late Adam A. and Isabel R. (Moser) Zehner. Zehner conducted a general practitioner's office in Orwigsburg from 1949 to 1953 and from 1954 until his retirement in August 1999. He was a 1937 graduate of Reading High School and a 1941 graduate of North Carolina State University, Raleigh. Zehner was a 1946 graduate of the Jefferson Medical School, Philadelphia. Zehner served his internship at Lancaster General Hospital in 1947 and his residency at Wernersville State Hospital from 1947 to 1948. In 1953-1954, he was the medical officer in charge of the hospital for San Carlos Apache Reservation in Arizona. Zehner was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, New Ringgold, Schuylkill County. He was a 42nd degree mason. Surviving are two sons, Dr. Eric D., Reading, and Dr. Nevin T., Orwigsburg; and a daughter, Gwen S. Zehner, Orwigsburg. Other survivors include a sister, Kathryn (Zehner) Vogel, Fleetwood; and a brother, Dr. Luther, Meadville, Crawford County. There are also three grandchildren. Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. in the Bean Funeral Homes Inc., Reading. Burial will be private in Zion (Stone) Church Cemetery, West Penn Township, Schuylkill County.

Following a five-day illness, Joel Zeimer, sr., aged 83 years, 5 months and 23 days, died at the residence of his son-in-law, Charles Witman, 308 North Eleventh street. Deceased for many years worked as a puddler at the Oley street mill of the Reading Iron Company. He was a member of the Alleghenyville Reformed Church. His wife, Sarah (Rathmon) Zemier, died 40 years ago. He leaves five sons: George, Charles, Peter, John, of Reading, and Joel, Jr., of Allentown; three daughters, Mary, wife of Charles Witman; Nellie, wife of William Wolfskill, and Amanda, wife of Allen Wolfskill. Two sisters, Susan Zemier, of Shillington, and Mary, widow of William Foreman, survive; also 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Born in Lavelle, Schuylkill County, she was a daughter of the late Victor Zeller and Grace (Schiffo) O'Neil. Surviving are Elsie Ciccanti, with whom she resided; a brother, Richard A. Zeller, Hamburg; and three sisters: Rose (Zeller) Brown, Lady Lake, Fla.; Jacqueline (Zeller) Mistek, Laureldale; and Grace (Zeller) Lucarelli, Blandon. Jacob Z Zellers died on Thursday evening, at 212 Washington street, Reading of typhoid fever. He was 42 years of age and had been ill for one week. Deceased had been employed at Mellert's foundry 5 years.

Ex-Leesport council president Services were held in Trinity United Church of Christ, Leesport, for John R. Todd Zellers, 88, of Hafer Drive, Leesport, who died June 8 in St. Joseph Medical Center, where he had been a patient since May 29. Burial was in Leesport Cemetery. He was predeceased by his wife, Claire E. (Hafer) Zellers, who died Oct. 9. Born in Ontelaunee Township, he was a son of the late Edwin and Ellen N. (Burkart) Zellers. He was Leesport Borough Council President from 1961 to 1965. Until retiring in 1977, he was employed in the maintenance department of Carpenter Steel Co. for 36 years. He was a World War II Coast Guard veteran. Zellers was a member of Trinity UCC Church, Leesport, and a former deacon of St. Johns (Gernants) UCC, Ontelaunee Township. He was a member of the Leesport Cemetery Board. Surviving are several nieces and nephews. The Milkins Funeral Home, Temple, was in charge of arrangements.

Services were held for Charles E. Zellner Jr., 78, of Bowmansville Road, Brecknock Township, who died July 29. He was the husband of Betty J. (Frantz) Zellner. Born in Philadelphia, he was a graduate of Albright College and received his master's degree in education from Temple University, Philadelphia. Zellner was employed for 25 years as an English and German teacher at Twin Valley Junior-Senior High School, retiring in 1980. He was a member of Robeson Lutheran Church, Plowville. Zellner was a Navy veteran of World War II. He is also survived by a son, Keith E., Cumru Township, and a daughter, Lori J. (Zellner) Bortz, Steubenville, Ohio. Other survivors include two sisters and five grandchildren. The Bean Funeral Homes Inc., Shillington, was in charge of the arrangements.

Annie Ellen Zerbe, wife of Nathaniel L. Zerbe and daughter of the late Jared and Rebecca nee Rothermel, Zerbe, born April 19, 1870, Jefferson Twp., Berks Co.; was baptized May 26, 1870 by Rev. D. D. Trexler and confirmed Nov. 1, 1884 in Christ, Little Tulpehocken Church by Rev. A. Johnson Long. She was married to Nathaniel L. Zerbe Oct. 8, 1888 by Rev. A. Johnson Long in Stouchsburg. She died Thursday, Nov. 17, 1932 in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer E. Lutz near Sinking Spring, aged 62 years, 6 months and 28 days and is survived by her husband, 2 daughters, 2 grandchildren, 2 step-sisters and 1 step-brother. She was buried Nov.22, 1932, with services in the home and Christ, Little Tulpehocken Church and interment in the adjoining cemetery.

Services were held at the Kirkhoff Funeral Home, Bernville, for Cora R. Zerbe, formerly of Reading, who died March 1 in Berks Heim, where she had resided 8 1/2 years. Burial was in Bern Cemetery, Bern Township. She was predeceased by her husband, Lester Zerbe, who died in 1972. Born in North Heidelberg Township, she was a daughter of the late John and Clara (Leinbach) Oxenreider. She is survived by a son, Paul O., Bernville; and two daughters, Nancy P. (Kramer) Henne, Reading, and Carol A. (Zerbe) Seaman, Hamburg. There are 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a half sister, Anna (Ernst) Speece, Shillington.

Elmira Zerbe, 86, widow of Monroe J. Zerbe, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John S. Bohn, of Blue Marsh. She was a native of Heidelberg Township, a daughter of the late Gabriel and Elizabeth (Gruber) Gerhart, and was a member of Christ (Little Tulpehocken) Reformed Church. Her husband died 32 years ago. Surviving are three children: Charles of Bernville R.D. 2; Laura E. wife of John S. Bohn, with whom she resided at Blue Marsh, and Edwin G., of West Leesport R.D. 1; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Funeral on Saturday from the Kirkhoff Funeral Home at 2 o'clock. Further services in Christ (Little Tulpehocken) Church. The Rev. Ralph E. Starr will officiate.

William D. Zerbe, 65, Brecknock Township, Lancaster County, died of natural causes May 31 at 12:40 a.m. in Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Lebanon. His wife, Marlene M. (Weinhold) Zerbe, died Jan. 1, 1997. Born in Brecknock Township, he was a son of the late Joseph P. and Edna (Kramer) Zerbe. Zerbe had been self-employed in the Lancaster County area as a carpenter, specializing in home remodeling. He was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church, Ephrata. Zerbe was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He is survived by a son, David L., Mohnton; and two daughters, Tammy L. (Zerbe) Hildebrand, Stevens, Lancaster County, and Rachel R. (Zerbe) Hart, Lyndon, Vt. Other survivors include two brothers, John and Clayton C., both of Denver, Lancaster County; and three sisters: Guyula (Zerbe) Seifrit, Interlachen, Fla.; Sallie (Zerbe) Haldeman, Reamstown, Lancaster County; and Dorothy (Zerbe) Anderson, Williamsport, Md. There are also two grandchildren. Services will be Friday at 10 a.m. in Mount Zion Baptist Church. Burial will be in Muddy Creek Cemetery, Swartzville, Lancaster County. The Roseboro Funeral Home, Denver, is in charge of arrangements.

A memorial service was held for Anna V. Zerby, 96, of South 20th Street, Exeter Township, who died February 26 in St. Joseph Medical Center Community Campus, where she had been a patient. Born in Reading, she was employed as a sales clerk by Richard's Toy Store, Reading, and was last employed for 32 years by Pomeroy's Department Store, Reading, retiring in 1970. She was a member of St. Mark's United Church of Christ, Reading. Surviving is a daughter, Helen V. (Zerby) DeAcosta, with whom she resided. Other survivors include a brother; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son. The Bean Funeral Homes Inc., Exeter Township, was in charge of the arrangements.

George H. Zerr, 77, died July 17 in his Reading residence. Born in Reading, he was a son of the late George and Helen (Foreman) Zerr. Zerr had been last employed as an apartment building superintendent until his retirement. He is survived by a sister, Helen Zerr, and a stepsister, Thelma (Reifsnyder) Worcheck, both of Reading. Allen F. Zettlemoyer, a resident of Lenhartsville for the last 33 years, died of a complication of diseases, aged 67 years. He was ill for 18 months. Deceased is survived by his widow, Emma (nee Dorward) and the following children: Lillie, wife of Irwin Zettlemoyer, near town; Carrie, wife of Frank Bower, Windsor, and Frank, at home, and nine grandchildren; one brother, Isaac, of Topton, and two sisters, Mrs. William H. Williams, Hamburg, and Mrs. George Shaner, of Lenhartsville.

A telegram from the War Department, informing them of the death of their son Calvin, in Italy on Oct. 10, brought sadness into the household of Mr. and Mrs. George Zettlemoyer, Lenhartsville R. 1, during the weekend. The message telling of the fatality arrived about a year and seven months after the 30-year-old soldier, second oldest in a family of ten children,, was drafted for U.S. Army service. He trained at camps in Virginia and Missouri and served with a Signal Corps unit. He was sent overseas in April, 1943, and saw action in Sicily before going into Italy with the Allied forces. He was employed at the Evansville Cement Mill before induction. Besides his parents he is survived by the following brothers and sisters: Leon, Arthur, Herman, Stella, Mary and Helen, at home; Warren, Lenhartsville; Mrs. Arlan Boyer, Hamburg R. 3; Martin of Virginville.

Shamrock—Charles Franklin, infant son of Robert C. and Daisy (Mest) Zettlemoyer, West Smith St., Topton, died on Sept. 27, aged 1 month and 16 days. He was baptized the same day by Rev. W. H. Kline. Services were held at the parents’ home, Sept. 30, followed by interment in the Union cemetery at Bowers, where the father is a deacon in Trinity Lutheran church. Rev. W. F. Bond officiated. The parents, 2 brothers, 4 sisters and the paternal grandmother survive. J. J. Schofer & Son, Topton, were in charge.

Mrs. Emma Zettlemoyer, widow of Isaac Zettlemoyer, died last night at her home, 28 W. Smith St., Topton, at the age of 76 years. She was the daughter of the late Simon and Judith, nee Fenstermacher, Rhode. Her husband died 21 years ago. Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Harry Ohlinger, Mohnton; Mrs. William H. Mertz, Kutztown; Mrs. Charles Beck, Allentown; two sons, Ulysses, Cleveland, Ohio; Robert, at home; a stepson, Oscar, Virginsville; 19 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. from the late home, with interment in Bowers cemetery. Rev. William F. Bond will officiate. Friends may call Monday 7-9 p.m.

In failing health for several years and bedfast the last two weeks, Mrs. Emma M. (Shankweiler) Zettlemoyer, wife of Alfred Zettlemoyer, died early yesterday morning at her home, 440 Tilghman St. She was 75 years old. Born in Longswamp, a daughter of Jefferson and Amelia Shankweiler, she had resided in Allentown the last 20 years and was a member of First Baptist church, the Mite society and the Philathae Bible class. Twice married, she was predeceased by her first husband, George Conrad. In addition to her second husband, she leaves three daughters, Mrs. Helen Minner, Allentown; Elda, wife of Walter Fegley, Emmaus, and Florence, wife of Raymond Fogel, Bethlehem. Also surviving are a son, Ralph Conrad; a sister, Neda, wife of Leighton Nappenberger, Emmaus; a brother, Cyrus Shankweiler, Allentown, and four step-children, George Zettlemoyer of Philadelphia, Howard and Paul Zettlemoyer of Allentown, and Lillian, wife of Joseph Pivnigney, Bethlehem. Services will take place Wednesday at 3 p.m. in the J. S. Burkholder funeral home, 1601 Hamilton St., with burial in Fairview cemetery. Calling hours are from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.

Services for George A. Zettlemoyer, 79, who died at his Lenhartsville R. 1 home Saturday, will be held at 1:30 p.m. tomorrow in the Berkey and Spacht Funeral Home, Hamburg. A retired farmer, Zettlemoyer was born in Greenwich Township, a son of the late Martin and Magdalena (Sousley) Zettlemoyer. He was a member of the Lutheran wing of St. Paul's Union Church, Windsor Township. Surviving are his wife, the former Annie E. Krick; five sons, Leon, Kutztown R. 2; Martin and Warren, both of Lenhartsville R. 1, and Arthur and Herman, both at home; four daughters, Helen, Kutztown; Ellen, wife of Arlan Boyer, Hamburg R. 2; Stella, Temple, and Mary, wife of LeRoy Hoffman, Fleetwood R. 3; 12 grandchildren, and a sister Ida, wife of Jacob Bachman, Kempton R.D.

Annie D (Seidel), widow of Augustus Zieber, died of complications of ailments at 3 o'clock this morning at her reisidence. 1441 Fairview St., aged 85 years, 3 months and 12 days. Deceased was the last of a family of 13 children. She was a member of Zion's Brethren Church. She leaves four sons and three daughters as follows. Amelia, wife of Henry Bennethum; Alice wife of Alvin Gottshall; Hattie, wife of Irvin Dunkel, all of this city, Annie, wife of John Schlegel, Mt. Penn; Augustus and Alvin at home. and Edward, of Reading, seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Undertaker Lutz took charge of the remains.

George W. Zieber died at the home of his son, George, in West Lawn, on Tuesday night at the age of 67 years. Deceased was a former resident of Birdsboro and Reading. He is survived by these children: Agner (?), wife of Michael Mock, Birdsboro; George D., this place; Harry, Reiffton; Leonard, Emaus; Carrie, wife of Harold Rothermel, Reading; three brothers, Oscar, Birdsboro; Wilbur, Reading; Rodger, Rosedale. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated for Raymond V. Zeiber, 86, of Heidelberg Avenue, Exeter Township, who died March 18 in ManorCare Health Services Inc., Muhlenberg Township, where he had resided since March. His wife, Marie F. (Endy) Zeiber, died in 1997. Born in Pottstown, Zeiber was employed for 28 years as a steelworker by Carpenter Technology Corp., retiring in 1978. He was a 1934 graduate of Reading High School and was an Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War. Zeiber was a member of St. Catharine of Siena Roman Catholic Church, Exeter Township. He was a life member of Hunter-Liggett Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 38 and North End Rod & Gun Club, both of Reading, and the Community Volunteer Fire Company, Lower Alsace Township. Surviving are two sons, Gerald O., Lower Heidelberg Township, and William R., Ruscombmanor Township; and a daughter, Marilyn L. (Zeiber) White, Whitehall Township, Lehigh County. Other survivors include two sisters; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Burial was in Gethsemane Cemetery, Laureldale. The Bean Funeral Homes Inc., Exeter Township, was in charge of the arrangements.

David Ziegenfus, life long resident of Berks county and a veteran of the Civil War, died last evening at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Nathaniel Eck, No. 225 Locust street, of pneumonia, aged seventy-seven years and nine months. He arrived here a week ago last Friday from his home at Barto, Berks county, on a visit and was taken ill about a week ago. He was bedfast only four days. Dr. W. W. Eschbach was the attending physician. Deceased was a son of David and Sarah Ziegenfus, nee Bauman, and was born near Barto and lived there all his life. He served a nine months enlistment under Captain Scholl in the Civil war and acquitted himself well. He was a successful farmer until his advanced years caused him to retire a number of years ago. However, he was enjoying excellent health up to the time of the fatal illness. The deceased's wife, Caroline, nee Gehris, died a number of years ago. He is survived by four children. They are Mrs. Nathaniel Eck, Allentown; William, Peter and Mrs. William Bower, all of Berks county. One brother Henry resided at Polo, Illinois. Arrangements for the funeral have not yet been made.

Mrs. Amanda G., nee Eschbach, Ziegenfuss, wife of the late William H. Ziegenfuss, died yesterday at the home of a son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Henry, New Berlinville. She was aged 73 years. She was a daughter of the late Herman and Emaline, nee Gerhart, Eschbach. She was a lifelong member of Huffs Union church, Lutheran wing, at Huffs church. Surviving are three daughters, Edna, wife of Isaac Henry, and Alice, wife of Stanley Moser, New Berlinville; Mrs. Mary S. Schoch, Bechtelsville; one sister, Elizabeth, wife of James A. Tagert, East Greenville; two brothers, Frank of Bechtelsville, and Charles, Red Hill; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Henry residence in New Berlinville, followed by continued services in Huffs Union church, Revs. J. N. Blatt and Elias Kulp officiating. Interment will be made in the cemetery adjoining the church.

Mrs. Eliza C. Ziegenfuss, 43, wife of Henry H. Zeigenfuss, Red Lyon, Macungie R. 1, died Wednesday morning at her home. She was the daughter of George D. Schmoyer Sr., and the late Lizzie, nee Reinert, Schmoyer, and was born in Longswamp Township, Berks County. She was a member of the Evangelical and Reformed wing of Huff’s Church. Survivors, in addition to her husband and father, Macungie R. 1, are two children, Harvey H., at home, and Fern M., wife of Harvey A. Ross, Macungie R. 1; two sisters, Stella, wife of Lloyd Reinert, Huffs Church, and Lizzie, wife of Russell Landis, Allentown; four brothers, David, Alburtis, Harvey, Macungie R. 1, George Jr., Alburtis R. 1 and William, Allentown, and one grandchild, Gene Zeigenfuss.

Mrs. Sadie Agnes (Drey) Ziegenfuss passed away at 1.50 on Sunday morning at the Berks County Tuberculosis Sanitarium, near Reading, at the age of 33 years, 10 months and 23 days. She was a daughter of Daniel I. and the late Anna (Derr) Drey, and up to the time of her illness had been employed as a cigar maker at the Eisenlohr Cigar factory in Reading. She is survived by her father, who resides in Reading; two children, Evelyn and Dorothy, Temple, and one sister, Mrs. Herbert F. Kline, Longsdale, Mertztown R.D. Funeral services will be held at 1.30 Friday afternoon from the home of her brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Kline, in Longsdale, and interment will follow in the Huff’s church cemetery. Rev. William F. Bond, Shamrock, will officiate.

William H. Ziegenfuss, a farmer of Barto R.D., died at his home yesterday following an illness of several months. He was 73 years old. A native of Hereford township, Berks county, he was a son of the late David and Carolina, nee Gehris, Ziegenfuss. He was a member of Huffs Lutheran church. Surviving are his wife, Amanda, nee Eschbach; two daughters, Mrs. Isaac Henry and Mrs. Stanley Moser, of New Berlinville; step-daughter, Mrs. Mary Schoch, of Bechtelsville; a brother, Peter A., of New Berlinville, and four grandchildren. Brief funeral services will be held from his late home Friday at 1 p.m. with further rites in Huffs Lutheran church at 2 o'clock. Burial will be made in the churchyard. The Revs. W. F. Bond and Elias Kulp will officiate.

Mrs. A. Victoria Ziegler, wife of Albert Ziegler of 518 Wyoming St., Allentown, died yesterday morning at her home at the age of 65 years. A native of Hereford, Berks county, she was a daughter of Nathan and Anna, nee Eshbach, Moyer. She was a member of Zion E. C. Church, this city. Surviving, besides her husband, are two daughters, Mrs. Emma Lichtenwalner and Mrs. Cora Eastman, both of Allentown; a son, Edwin, at home, four grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and six sisters, Mrs. Lillie Gery, Palm; Mrs. William yeakel, East Greenville; Mrs. John Gery, Allentown; Mrs. William Clemmer and Mrs. William Hassler, both of Schnecksville, and Mrs. John Smale, Allentown. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at her late home, with continued services in Zion church, E. Susquehanna St. Interment will be in St. Mark's cemetery.

Anna Elizabeth Ziegler, 95, formerly of Reading, died May 23 at 11 p.m. in Mifflin Center, Cumru Township, where she had been a resident for four years. Her husband, John W. Ziegler, died Aug. 7, 1988. Born in Robeson Township, she was a daughter of the late Daniel and Sarah (Buchanan) Burkhart. Ziegler had been employed for 17 years as a cashier by Carper Delicatessen, Reading Farmer's Market, retiring in 1980. She is survived by several nieces and nephews. Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. in Dengler Funeral Home Inc., Birdsboro. Burial will be in Robeson Lutheran Cemetery, Plowville.

Mrs. Annie Ziegler, wife of Henry Ziegler, of No. 221 North Tenth street, died Tuesday morning after an illness of several weeks with pneumonia. She was born in Longswamp, Berks county, fifty years ago. She leaves her mother, Mrs. Ruslinda Wagonhurst, nee Dresher, her husband, one son, George Ziegler, of Los Angeles, Cal.; two daughters, Mrs. Lillie Stauffer, Neff's; Mrs. Daisy Rockel, Fogelsville. Deceased was the last of her family. The funeral will be held on Saturday morning with services and burial at Mertztown.

Mrs. Elizabeth Ziegler, widow of Charles Ziegler, died on Monday of last week at the residence of her son-in-law, Allen F. Bechtel, in Reading, aged 71 years, 11 months and 2 days. She is survived by three children, and was a sister of our well known popular townsman, Mr. John R. Gossler.

The daughter of the late William and Elizabeth Reigelman Fenstermacher, she was a member of St. Paul's Reformed church in Kutztown. She is survived by two sons, Edgar S. Ziegler, Kutztown, and Ira W. Ziegler, Norwalk, Ohio; one daughter, Ella, wife of Morris Miller, Lakewood, Ohio; two brothers, Menno Fenstermacher, Allentown; and Charles Fenstermacher; one sister, Esther, widow of Harvey Siegfried, Allentown; four grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.

She was a daughter of the late Seth and Sarah, nee Dressler, Ziegler, and is survived by a brother, Harry Ziegler, Reading, and five nieces. Miss Ziegler was a member of St. Paul's Reformed church, Kutztown. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Gonser Memorial chapel and interment will be in Fairview cemetery, Kutztown. Mrs. Emma S., wife of R. E. W. Ziegler, died Saturday afternoon at 12.53 o'clock of bronchitis after an illness of about seven weeks. The deceased was a daughter of Charles and Helena Koch, of Topton, the mother surviving her. The husband and three children, Florence, Stanley, and Harold, survive. Besides there are five brothers, David Koch, of Topton; James, of Richmond, Va.; Jacob, of Camden, N.J.; Charles, of Newton Square, Pa.; George, of Reading, and four sisters, Mrs. Alice Worman and Mrs. Ella Kistler, of this city; Mrs. Amanda Rose, of Kansas City, Mo., and Mrs. Helena Hain of Reading. Also two half sisters, Mrs. Mary Bossler of Blandon, and Mrs. Sarah Christman, of Topton. Her age was 34 years, 9 months and 2 days. The funeral will take place Thursday afternoon from her late home, corner Sixth and Washington streets, at 2 o'clock followed by services in Seibert U.E. Church, Rev. A. J. Brunner officiating. The deceased was a most estimable wife and mother and her early death is mourned by many friends.

Ziegler, also a resident at the Masonic Homes at Elizabethtown. They celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary on June 30. Born in Hamburg, she was a daughter of the late Morris D. and Maggie L. (Schaller) Beahr. She was a 1937 graduate of the McCann Business School. Until retiring in 1986, she was employed as a bookkeeper for the Great Valley Girl Scout Council, Allentown, for 30 years. Ziegler was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Perkiomen Chapter #318, Red Hill, Montgomery County. Surviving are two daughters, Greta, wife of Kendall Flint, Richmond, Va., and Marcia L., wife of Ronald Jones, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Jacob Ziegler, 77, retired farmer of the Mertztown area, died Wednesday at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Kern, Mertztown R. 1. He had been ill since last fall, and confined to his room for the past five days. Born in Upper Macungie township, Lehigh county, he was the son of the late David and Carolina, nee Merkel, Ziegler. He was a member of the Reformed congregation of Ziegels church, and the home department of the Sunday school. He is survived by five children: Mrs. Kern, with whom he resided; Mrs. Edith Mertz, Maxatawny; Warren J. and Claude D. Ziegler, both of Allentown; Fred A. Ziegler, Maxatawny; 15 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, David Ziegler, Fogelsville; and Victor Ziegler, Breinigsville R. 1. Rev. John Herbster will officiate at services to be held Monday at 1:30 p.m. at the Schmoyer funeral home, Breinigsville, and at continued services at the Ziegels church. interment in cemetery adjoining church.

Irene E. Ziegler, 83, of Dillsburg, York County, died May 16 in Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill, Cumberland County. She was the wife of the Rev. Warren O. Ziegler. Born in Rehrersburg, she was a daughter of the late Herbert and Annie (Wolfe) Marburger. Ziegler was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Mechanicsburg, Cumberland County. She was a former volunteer at the Holy Spirit Hospital, Dillsburg Library, New Hope Ministries and the Dillsburg Senior Citizens Center Meals on Wheels. Ziegler is also survived by two sons, Merwin J. and Dwight L., both of Dillsburg. Other survivors include a brother, Charles Marburger, Reading; and three sisters: Pearl (Marburger) Long, Reading; Barbara (Marburger) Fink, Wyomissing; and Fay (Marburger) Readinger, Temple. There are also three grandchildren. Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Cocklin Funeral Home Inc., Dillsburg. Burial will be in the Dillsburg Cemetery.

Jacob Ziegler, of Longswamp, died of consumption Sunday, after ailing over two years. He was bedfast four weeks. Funeral Friday afternoon, at Huff's Church. Rev. Dr. Eli Keller, of Zionsville, will officiate. Deceased was a pumpmaker by occupation and was the owner of a fine farm. He was eighty years old and is survived by his widow (nee Rohrbach) , one son, Edwin Ziegler, residing at home, and two daughters, Mrs. David Rohrbach of Huff's Church, and Mrs. Milton W. Gery, of Harlem.

Laura A. Ziegler, Shamrock, died at 4:45 a.m. Sunday at the Allentown hospital from pneumonia, which she contracted after suffering a fractured leg near her home. She was 73 years of age. Born in Upper Macungie township, Lehigh county, she was the daughter of the late Philip and Fienna (Steininger) Ziegler. She was a member of the Reformed congregation of Longswamp church. A daughter, Mrs. Herbert C. Melchor, Kintnersville; three grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Alice Fisher, Allentown, survive. Funeral services will be held from the DeLong funeral home, 107 S. Home St., Topton, Thursday at 1:30 p.m., with interment in Longswamp church cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

A Memorial service was held for Lois E. (Wunderlich) Ziegler, 96, formerly of Big Road, Gilbertsville, who died March 2 in the Highlands at Wyomissing. She was the widow of John B. Ziegler Jr. Born in Pottstown, she started teaching at a young age and soon opened a girls reading camp in Harmonyville, where she was the camp director. She later became an artist. Ziegler was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church in Pottstown. She was an active member in the Women's Century Club and the League of Women Voters, both of Pottstown. Surviving are a son, Jack B. III of Philadelphia; one daughter, Marcia Dawson of Mercer Island, Wash. Also a brother, Merv Wunderlich, Pottstown; two sisters, Selena Bing of Newark, Del., and Doris Shaner of Gilbertsville. Also five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by two sisters. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 750 N. Evans St., Pottstown, PA 19464. Interment was private. The arrangements were handled by the Catagnus Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Pottstown.

Mrs. Samuel Ziegler, of Maxatawny township, whose husband died about three years ago, departed this life on Sunday week, aged 70 years. She leaves two sons and three daughters, the latter being married. The sons managed the farm belonging to the estate, which is situated about half-way between Bower's Station and Topton.

The Rev. Warren O. Ziegler, 84, Dillsburg, York County, died May 29 in Harrisburg Hospital. His wife, Irene E. (Marburger) Ziegler, died May 16, 2004. Born in Mount Aetna, he was a son of the late Harvey and Gertrude M. (Krick) Ziegler. Ziegler was ordained a minister in the United Church of Christ 60 years ago. He had served as pastor at several parishes throughout Pennsylvania and Maryland, including St. John's UCC in Auburn and Port Clinton, and Faith UCC and Zion UCC, all in Schuylkill County. He was a graduate of Franklin and Marshall College and the Lancaster Theological Seminary, both of Lancaster. Ziegler was a member of St. Paul's UCC, Mechanicsburg, Cumberland County. He was a former volunteer with the Meals on Wheels program at the Dillsburg Senior Center. Ziegler is survived by two sons, Merwin J. and Dwight L., both of Dillsburg. There are also three grandchildren. Services will be Thursday at 2:30 p.m. in Cocklin Funeral Home Inc., Dillsburg. Burial will be in Dillsburg Cemetery.

Killed By Lightning. Plow Tavern Struck by a Bolt and Many Persons Affected.
During the storm of Sunday night lightning struck the Plow tavern, between Morgantown and Beckersville, and killed Webster ZIEGLER, aged 15, and George JAMES, aged 45, and married. John HOYER, a school teacher of Brecknock; Harrison ZIEGLER, a carpenter; Owen ZIEGLER, by whom he was employed; John ESCHELMAN, aged 10 years, a son of the proprietor of the tavern, and Jonas HARTZ, residing with M. H. ESCHELMAN, merchant, in the same building, were stunned. During the height of the storm George JAMES, who, with his wife and several children, had been visiting John BINGAMAN, a truck farmer, who lives a mile and a half away, and were on the way to their home at Goosetown, drove up to the tavern to remain until after the storm. Mr. JAMES took his wife and children to the side sitting room, and then came out and engaged in conversation with the others, most of whom were sitting outside on the porch watching the storm.
When the lightning struck the building it entered the roof, down though the second story to the bar-room, and out though the open door to the porch. Mr. JAMES was instantly killed. Webster ZIEGLER, who was sitting in a large armchair close to the window, was found, his shoes torn from his feet and his legs scorched. The others mentioned were struck to the floor and unconscious. The women and children in the sitting room and Banks ESCHELMAN, who was in the bar-room, were uninjured. It was fully two hours before those who were stunned revived.
Webster ZIEGLER was a son of Harrison ZIEGLER, residing near the Plow tavern and a well-known farmer. George JAMES was an estimable citizen of Caernarvon. He was a son of Hunter JAMES, who once lived in Reading and died several years ago, and was a nephew of Evan JAMES, the blacksmith. Two brothers, residing in the South and one sister in Schuylkill county, are the only survivors of his father's family. Deceased was an exemplary young man, noted for his honesty, industry and sobriety, and was a very worthy citizen. He owned his own property, a very comfortable home of several acres, was a successful tobacco farmer and carried on lime burning at Kurtz's kilns at Willow Glen. His heart broken wife, with two small children, sadly mourn his demise.

Daniel Zimmer of Brooklyn, a suburb of Kutztown, died of dropsy and general debility in his 88th year, Thursday morning at 5:30 o'clock. His wife preceded him in death nearly three years. He lived the greater part of his life in Greenwich but the last three years he resided with his son-in-law, Lewis S. Dietrich, Brooklyn. Deceased leaves seven children, Daniel and Amandus, of Crawford County, Judith, wife of Nicholas Bloom and Amelia, wife of Adam Miller of Williamsport; Katharine, wife of Jonathan Weida, Elizabeth, wife of William Schneck and Charlotte, wife of Lewis S. Dietrich, these residing in Maxatawny. Funeral tomorrow forenoon at 9:30. Services in Grimsville church and burial in Grimsville cemetery.

Abraham Zimmerman died at the age of 73 years at the residence of his son, Norman, in Oley township, Berks Co., on Saturday. The funeral will be held at Kutztown, where his wife is also buried. Deceased owned a fine farm beyond Monterey, on the Kutztown road, but met with reverses years ago and was obliged to dispose of it. He has a large acquaintanceship and relationship in the upper end of the county.

Abraham Zimmerman, formally a farmer of Maxatawny, has been gathered to his fathers. He died on Friday evening of last week at the residence of his son Norvin, in Oley, of apoplexy, aged 74 years, 8 months, 27 days. He had an attack of the grip last April and never fully recovered from the effects of that treacherous disease. He was bedfast only two days. Deceased hailed from this section and was a prominent Maxatawny farmer up to seven years ago, when he retired from farming and went to live with his son Norvin. His wife preceded him in death seventeen years.
He leaves two sons, Oliver in the West and Norvin, besides eight grandchildren. Six of these are the children of Norvin and one is the child of the son in the West and the eighth was left by the youngest son who preceded his father in death. Deceased was the youngest of his parents family and the last to die. Dan Zimmerman, deceased, who made the Black Horse Hotel famous, was a brother. The funeral took place on Wednesday and was fairly attended. Interment was made in the Hope cemetery of this town. Rev. J. J. Cressman conducted the obsequies and preached a very impressive sermon in St. John's Union Church. Dinner was served at the Pennsylvania House, H. W. Bauer, proprietor. Over one hundred persons took dinner.

Annie Matilda, wife of Frank Edward Zimmerman and daughter of John and Precilla (Schaeffer) Weiser, born Sept. 24, 1865, in Jefferson Twp., Berks Co.; was baptized Nov. 5, 1865 by Rev. Krim. She was confirmed April 8, 1882, in Salem Church, Bethel, by Rev. D. D. Trexler, and married to Frank Edward Zimmerman May 25, 1901, by Rev. Schantz, Myerstown. She died Sat., Dec. 3, 1932 in their home in Bethel Twp., aged 67 years, 2 months and 9 days. She is survived by her husband. Her funeral took place Dec. 8, 1932, with services in the home and Salem Lutheran Church, Bethel, and interment in the old graveyard.

Constant H. Zimmerman, a former Emmaus educator, died Monday in Allentown Hospital at the age of 85. During his 40-year teaching career, Zimmerman was principal of Washington Elementary School in Emmaus for 10 years. He also was an instructor in industrial arts at Emmaus High School for six years before retiring in 1949. He began teaching in schools of Weisenberg and Upper Milford townships after graduating from the Kutztown Normal School in 1911. Zimmerman also was a past master of the Pioneer Grange of Topton and was a former secretary of the Emmaus branch of the Red Cross. He was a member of the Longswamp United Church of Christ, Longswamp, where he served as deacon, elder and trustee. He was the husband of the late Emma (Knerr) Zimmerman, who died in 1968. Born in Wernersville, Berks County, he was a son of the late Milton P. and Victoria (Kimmerer) Zimmerman. He lived at 436 N. 3rd St., Emmaus. He is survived by a son Ray R., of Emmaus; a brother Homer of Trexlertown; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday in the Horace w. Schantz Funeral Home, 3rd and Main streets, Emmaus. Calling hours will be 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday.

Zimmerman, formerly of East Earl, Lancaster County and Maxatawny Township, at the residence of James B. and Alma (Zimmerman) Weaver, Meadow View Farm, Maxatawny Township, with services continuing in the Center Mennonite Church, Maxatawny Township. Zimmerman died March 10 in her residence on Mount Zion Road, Versailles, Mo. Burial was in the Center Mennonite Church Cemetery. Zimmerman was predeceased by her husband, Moses E. Zimmerman. Born in East Earl, she was a daughter of the late John G. and Anna (Weaver) Leid. She was a member of the Groffdale Conference of Mennonites and worshipped at the Excelsior Mennonite Church, Versailles. Zimmerman is survived by nine sons: Lester, East Earl; Walter, Barnett, Mo.; Ivan, Scottville, Ky.; John, Waterloo, N.Y.; Edward, Elam, Moses, and Paul, all in Wisconsin; and Harold, Fleetwood. Also surviving are seven daughters: Mabel (Zimmerman) Zimmerman and Ella (Zimmerman) Kilmer, both of Versailles; Anna (Zimmerman) Leid, East Earl; Mary (Zimmerman) Brubaker, Mount Herman, Ky.; Emma (Zimmerman) Burkholder, Kutztown; Alma (Zimmerman) Weaver, Maxatawny Township; and Verna (Zimmerman) Burkholder, Shelby, Ohio. There are 134 grandchildren and 258 great-grandchildren. Other survivors include two brothers, Paul Leid, Terre Hill, Lancaster County, and Elmer Leid, New Holland, Lancaster County; and three sisters: Lizzie (Leid) Imhoff, Goshen, Ind.; Emma (Leid) Nolt, Manheim, Lancaster County; and Susanna (Leid) Lemon, North Boro, Mass. Ex-tax collector. Services were held in the Edward J. Hildenbrand Funeral Home, Kutztown, for Henry A. Zimmerman, formerly of South Laurel Street, Kutztown, who died July 10 in Kutztown Manor, where he had resided several years. Burial was in Hope Cemetery, Kutztown. He was the husband of Marie A. (Ziegler) Zimmerman, also a resident at Kutztown Manor. Born in Kutztown, he was a son of the late Henry O. and Cora V. (Kershner) Zimmerman. He was a graduate of Kutztown High School and the Reading Business Institute. He also took banking courses at Bucknell University and Albright College. Zimmerman was a tax collector in Kutztown for four years and was employed as a business manager by the Mount-Penn Lower Alsace School District for four years and by the Kutztown School District for seven years. He was also employed by Kutztown National Bank for 25 years. Zimmerman was a charter member and treasurer of Camp Edmar Boy Scout Camp, near Kutztown. He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Kutztown, where he was a former deacon and elder. Zimmerman was a board member and treasurer of Hope Cemetery, Kutztown, for 29 years. Also surviving are a son, H. Neal Zimmerman, and a daughter, Sandra M. (Zimmerman) Leiby, both of Kutztown. Other survivors include six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lillian (Zimmerman) Kerschner, Kutztown.

Jacob F. Zimmerman, a retired resident of Kutztown, yesterday died at his home, 126 Main street, from a complication of diseases. He was aged 69 years. Deceased for a number of years was employed by the federal government as a liquor gauger. He was active in Democratic politics in the borough and held several local offices. Mr. Zimmerman was a director of the Farmers Bank and Trust company. He was twice married. His first wife, Ellen (Kline), died five years ago. There survive his second wife, Annie (Reinhard), and one brother, Eldridge, of Topton.

John Zimmerman, 73, a farmer of Kempton R. 1, died Monday in Wayne county. A son of the late William and Mary (Weisner) Zimmerman, he was a native of Berks county. Mr. Zimmerman leaves his widow, the former Agnes Bower, and the following sons and daughters, Morris, Macungie R. 1; Wilson, Sinking Spring; Barbara, wife of Warren Berger, Lenhartsville R. 1, and Anna, wife of Russell Schmoyer, Slatington. Also surviving are the following sisters and brother, Mrs. Mary Shucker, Lenhartsville; Mrs. John Balschaser, Kutztown R. 2, and Daniel Zimmerman. Funeral service will be held on Friday at 2 p.m. at the Stump funeral home, Kempton, with Rev. Ira E. Klick of Kutztown, in charge. Interment will be made in Friedens cemetery, Stony Run.

Services were held in the family residence of Mary E. Zimmerman, of Oak Haven Road, Richmond Township, who died of natural causes March 21 in her residence following a lengthy illness. Additional services were held in the Fleetwood Mennonite Church, with burial in the church cemetery. She was the wife of Harold L. Zimmerman. Born in Richmond Township, she was the daughter of Ivan M. and Mary Z. (Burkholder) Martin, Richmond Township. Zimmerman was co-owner and operator with her husband of Martin's Greenhouse, located at their residence, for many years. She was a member of the Groffdale Conference, Fleetwood Mennonite Church, Richmond Township. Also surviving are five sons: Joshua M., Wilson M. and Jere M., all at home; John A., Richmond Township; and Ivan R., Perry Township. There is one grandson. Other survivors include four sisters: Alta B. (Martin) Zimmerman, Line Spring, Iowa; Annetta B. (Martin) Zimmerman and Arlene B. (Martin) Shirk, both of Thorp, Wis.; and Pauline M. (Martin) Brubacker, Perry Township. There are also five brothers: Harvey B. Martin, Antwerp, N.Y.; Raymond B. Martin, Lewistown, Mifflin County; Ezra B. Morris L. Zimmerman of Mertztown R. 1 died yesterday in Reading Hospital. He was 49. He was employed for 25 years by the Stanley G. Flagg Pipe Foundry at Stowe, Montgomery County. A native of Albany Township, he was a son of Mrs. Agnew (Bower) Zimmerman of Mertztown R. 1 and the late Jonathan Zimmerman. He was a member of the Lutheran wing of Friedens Union Church, Stony Run. Surviving in addition to his widow, the former Kathryn L. Reinert, and his mother, are three sons, Lee w., Richard M., and Larry P., and two daughters, Barbar G. and Carol J., all at home; two sisters, Barbara, wife of Warren Berger of Lenhartsville R. 1, and Emma, wife of Russel Schmoyer of Allentown; a brother, Wilson of West Leesport, and a stepbrother, Ralph Bauscher of Hamburg. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the Fritz & Kendall Funeral Home, Kutztown. Viewing will be 7-9 p.m. Sunday.

Services were held in the Ludwick Funeral Home, Kutztown, for Richard M. Zimmerman, of Luella Drive, Kutztown, who died March 12 shortly after being admittted to Lehigh Valley Hospital. Burial was in Berks County Memorial Gardens, Maidencreek Township. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary L. (Seem) Zimmerman, who died July 29, 2001. Born in Kutztown, he was a son of Edna (Balthaser) Zimmerman Leibensperger, Kutztown, and the late Marvin H. Zimmerman. Until retiring in 2000, he was employed as an assembler by Mack Trucks Inc., Macungie, for 30 years. He was a member of Mount Zion Lutheran Church, Krumsville. Also surviving are a sister, Darlene M. (Zimmerman) Fox, Greenwich Township; two brothers, Curtis L. Zimmerman, Mertztown and Carl L. Zimmerman, Topton; and Tara A. Batchler, with whom he resided.

Sallie Zimmerman, 81, passed away shortly after noon yesterday at her home at Monterey, Berks county. She was a daughter of the late David and Sarah, nee Gross, Zimmerman, and was the last of her family. Only survivors are one nephew, Dr. Edgar Pranseau, of Columbus, O., and two grand-nieces, Mrs. Frederick Glosser of Philadelphia, and Mrs. August Mehr of Columbus, O. She was a member of the Lutheran wing of Maxatawny church. Rev. W. S. Dry will officiate at services to be held from her late home on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m., d.s.t. Interment will be made at the convenience of the family.

Clinging to the brakes with all the power in their frames, Edward Rupert, motorman, and William Zink, electrician, on Saturday met heroic death in a head-on collision on the Slatington trolley road on the steep curving hill 100 yards from Troxell's crossing and about 4 1/2 miles from Allentown. ... Edward C. Rupert was born in District Township, Berks county, and was 32 years of age. His parents reside at Huff's Church. Mr. Rupert was married to a daughter of Thomas Long of Longswamp, lived at South Allentown for a number of years before moving to Slatington about a year ago. He had been in the employ of the Traction Company over seven years, first as a conductor and later as a motorman. He was known as one of the most reliable and careful men on the road. He was a member of Vienna Lodge I.O.O.F. of this city, and the Golden Eagles. Besides his parents, he is survived by his widow and two sons, George, aged seven years, and an infant thirteen months old.

Services were held for George D. Zolovich Sr., 73, husband of Mildred Zolovich of Edgewater, Fla., and formerly of Honey Brook, who died April 28 in his home. Zolovich was born in St. Louis. A veteran of the Korean War, Zolovich served on the honor guard for Gen. Douglas MacArthur and was a member of a Veterans of Foreign Wars post in Chester County. He was also a co-founder of the Hacienda Veterans Club of Edgewater, Fla. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, George D. Zolovich Jr. of Spring City and Michael A. Zolovich of Phoenixville; one daughter, Christine Brower of Mont Clare; one stepson, Jay McAlpine of Honey Brook; two stepdaughters, Millyann Davis of Glenmoore and Trudy Simpson of Narvon; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. The arrangements were handled by the Altman-Long Funeral Home and Crematory in DeBary, Fla.

John W Zuber, 58 of 355 Lackawanna St., died at 11:53 p.m. Friday shortly after arrival at the St. Joseph Hospital. He was born in Reading the son of Clinton L and Laura (Lesher) Zuber. He was a slitter for the Continental Forest Industries for 27 years, retiring in 1978; was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church and the Ivy Leaf Association; and was a Navy veteran of World War II.
He is survived by his wife Ethel M (Coldren) Zuber; a daughter, Gayle L., wife of John M Moyer III, Sugarloaf, Cumru Twp.; three sons, Craig E., Reading; Rickey J and Mark W., both at home; four grandchildren. Also, two sister and a brother; Sarah, wife of Carl Orth, and Anna Zuber, all of Havertown; Charles, Virginia Beach, VA.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the St. Luke's Church Chapel, the Rev. Samuel C Jaxheimer officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Reiffton. Theo C Auman Inc., is in charge of arrangements.

Services for Laura A Zuber 83, of 1213 Fidelity St. who was pronounced dead on arrival Tuesday night at St. Joseph's Hospital, will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. The Rev. Born in Shoemakersville, she was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles Lesher. Her husband died May 1968. She was a member of St. Luke's Church and its Sunday School.
Surviving are three daughters, Ruth E., wife of Charles I Schreffler, with whom she last resided, and Sarah L., wife of Carl Orth, and Ann C Zuber, both of Havertown; two sons, John W., Reading and Charles C., Norfolk, VA., 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

(McKinney) Zuber; a daughter, Jill E., wife of Robin Shoewalter, at home; a son, John C., Reading, and three grandchildren. Born in Hamburg, she was a daughter of the late Raymond W. and Mary A. (Turner) Mengel. Until her retirement, she was employed by Diener Knitting Mills, Inc., Hamburg, as a sewing machine operator. Florence A. Zweizig, 95, formerly of Reading, died March 31 at 7:45 p.m. in the Masonic Home of Elizabethtown, Lancaster County, where she had resided seven years. Her husband, Homer K. Zweizig, died May 21, 1997. Born in Reading, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Elsie (Wiest) Kiedeisch. Zweizig was employed for nine years as a cafeteria worker at Reading Hospital, retiring in 1971. She was a member of the Exeter Bible Church, Exeter Township. Surviving is a daughter, Loreen (Zweizig) Miller, West Lawn. Other survivors include two half sisters, Florence R. (Kiedeisch) Reitnour and Pauline (Kiedeisch) Gierschick, and three half brothers: John, Albert and Fred Kiedeisch, all of Alsace Township. There are also two grandchildren. Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Bean Funeral Homes Inc., Reading. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Reiffton.

Aaron Alvin Zwoyer, a well-known farmer of Longswamp, died of general debility, aged 76 years. He was a son of Joseph Zwoyer and wife Leah. he married Amanda Sicher. Three sons and three daughters survive: Orlando, Jonas and Aaron, Bowers; Mrs. William Grim, Lyons; Mrs. Hammes, Bowers; and Mrs. Levi Kercher, Hinnershitz Church. His wife died suddenly, being found dead in bed in July, 1907.

Aaron A. Zwoyer, 77, Maxatawny, was found dead in the kitchen of his home on Tuesday by a neighbor. Dr. L. D. Dunkelberger, deputy coroner of Berks county, issued a certificate of natural death. Mr. Zwoyer's wife, Maggie (Hoppes) Zwoyer, preceded him in death two years ago. He is survived by four children: Lillie, wife of Ralph Rahn, Topton; Edna, wife of Bartla Heffner, Lyons Station; Clarence J. and Luther D., Maxatawny; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Ella Hammes, Alburtis R. 1.

Aaron S. Zwoyer, husband of Mrs. Mabel H. (Reinert) Zwoyer of 368 Normal Ave., Kutztown, died yesterday morning in Reading Hospital. He was 73. Born in Rockland Township, he was a son of the late Jonas and Louisa (Landis) Zwoyer. He was a retired custodian in Kutztown schools. Surviving in addition to his widow are a son, Paul J., of Kutztown; a grandchild; two sisters, Mrs. Eva Angstadt, of Kutztown; and Lula, wife of George Grim, of Bowers; a brother, George, and a stepbrother, Charles Dry, of Bowers. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Christ DeLong UCC, Bowers. Viewing will be 7:30 - 8:30 p.m. tomorrow at the Fritz & Kendall Funeral Home, Kutztown.

Bernice Pearl, daughter of James A. Zwoyer and wife, Effie Pearl (nee Moyer) of Topton, died on Thursday, Dec. 6, aged 6 months and 23 days. She was born at Topton, May 14, 1923, and baptized July 1, 1923, at Shamrock, when the parents stood as sponsors. She is survived by her parents, the maternal grandparents, the paternal grandmother and one brother. Services over her remains were held at the house of mourning on Tuesday afternoon. Interment was made in the Union cemetery at Bowers. Rev. Wm. F. Bond, pastor of Trinity Lutheran church, Bowers, conducted the services.

Mrs. E. Pearl (Moyer), wife of James A. Zwoyer, Mertztown, R. 2, west of Henningsville, died in the Allentown hospital on Monday night, aged 26 years, 11 months and 23 days. She was born in Greenwich township, Berks county, a daughter of Ambrose and Razyan (Ramer) Moyer, and was a member of Trinity Lutheran church, Bowers. Funeral services will be held today at the house at 1.30 p.m. followed by service in church. She is survived by her husband, her parents, and four children, Charles, Catherine, Ellen and Rachel, all at home; also four brothers and nine sisters.

According to information received here yesterday by the parents, Fred Zwoyer, a soldier stationed at Camp Meade, Md., died there on Wednesday of Spanish influenza, aged with a few months of thirty years. The deceased was born in Topton and lived there all his life. He was the son of Frank and Ann Zwoyer, nee Wieand, both living in this city. He lived with his grandmother, Mrs. Ann Zwoyer, at Topton. Besides the parents, his twin brother Iva lives at Topton. The deceased was drafted by the county board in Berks county, and left for Camp Meade on May 30. At the camp hospital he was operated on for hernia. He was recovering nicely when Spanish influenza set in and later developed into pneumonia. Funeral services will be held at the Longswamp Church on Tuesday morning at 9.30 o’clock, where the deceased was a member of the Lutheran congregation. Rev. Nauroth will officiate. He was also a member of the Knights of Friendship of Topton.

Florence A. Zwoyer of Maxatawny, wife of Clarence J. Zwoyer, died yesterday morning in Allentown Hospital. She was 51. Born in Longswamp Township, she was a daughter of the late Nathan and Agnes (Latshaw) Mest. She was a member of Faith Mennonite Brethren in Christ Church, Fleetwood. Surviving besides her husband are a son, Robert, at home; a brother, Herbert, of Mertztown R. 1; five sisters, Mrs. Herbert Lesher, Mrs. Harvey Fenstermacher, Mrs. Elmer Schofer and Mrs. Willard Hilbert, all of Topton, and Mrs. Percy Heffner of Mertztown R. 1. She was preceded in death by a son and two brothers. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in the DeLong & Trexler Funeral Home, Topton.

Mrs. Hettie Zwoyer, born in Longswamp township, Berks county, died yesterday at her home in the township. She was 82 years old. A daughter of the late John and Katie (Romig) Geist, she was the widow of Orlando Zwoyer who died 36 years ago. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran church of Bowers. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Harvey Frey, of Kutztown; a son, James, at home; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Rev. Wilson Hartzell and Dr. Clarence Keiser will officiate at services to be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Schofer funeral home, Topton. Burial will be in Bowers cemetery.

After frightful suffering, Jerome, the 18-year old son of Jonas Zwoyer, of Kutztown, died Monday evening of hydrophobia, according to the diagnosis of Dr. Austin Hottenstein and Dr. M. H. Koch. The boy was bitten by a strange dog on Saturday, December 1. The wound healed, but reopened last Saturday, and about the same time, the boy began to act strangely. On Sunday, he became violent. During his spasms, several adults were required to hold him.

Jonas Zwoyer, a lifelong resident of Rockland township, Berks county, died yesterday afternoon at his late home near Bowers. He was in his seventieth year and had been suffering from a complication of ailments for the past sixteen weeks. For the past eight weeks he was confined to bed at his home and prior to that had been a patient in a Reading hospital for the same length of time. Born in Rockland township, he was a son of the late Aaron and Amanda, nee Sicher, Zwoyer. He was widely known throughout the township where for many years he operated a farm and a mill. Several years ago he retired from active business. He was a faithful member of Christ Reformed church. He is survived by three sons, Charles Zwoyer, Bowers, and Aaron and Geo. Zwoyer, Kutztown; three daughters, Mrs. Geo. Schaeffer, Kutztown, R.F.D.; Mrs. Solon Angstadt, at home; Mrs. Geo. Grim, Bowers; two sisters, Mrs. Elias Kerschner, Esterly; Mrs. Benjamin Hammes, Mertztown R.D., and one brother, Aaron, Maxatawney. Ten grandchildren also survive. His wife, Louisa, nee Landis, preceded him in death fifteen years ago. Funeral services will be held at his late home on Tuesday afternoon at 1.30 o'clock, followed by services in Christ Reformed church, Bowers. Interment in the cemetery adjoining.

Mrs. Maggie R. (Hoppes) Zwoyer, 74, wife of Aaron A. Zwoyer, died on Dec. 14 at her home in Maxatawny. Born in Rockland township, Berks county, she was a daughter of the late William and Melinda (Roth) Hoppes. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran church, Bowers. Surviving are her husband, the following children, Lillie, wife of Ralph Rahn, Topton; Edna, wife of Bartla Heffner, Lyons Station; Clarence J. and Luther Zwoyer, both of Maxatawny; Richard Leibensperger, Allentown, and 16 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, Robert Hoppes, Hellertown; and a sister, Emma, wife of Robert Schlegel, Kutztown.

Death from Consumption. Nathan Zwoyer died in the early part of last week at his home in Longswamp tsp., of consumption, aged 65 years. He was a bachelor.

William Zwoyer, aged 75 years and 1 month, a respected citizen of Longswamp township, died Wednesday afternoon at his home in Ringtown, after an illness of five weeks, during two of which he was bedfast. The cause of death was cancer and tuberculosis. Deceased is survived by a sister, Mrs. David C. Hess, aged 85. There survive his wife, Annie (nee Keiser), and the following children: Frank H., Hiram, Nicholas A., Mrs. William Reppert, Mrs. Edward Deller, all of Allentown. Deceased was a member of the church of the Most Blessed Sacrament, at Bally.

Services were held for Egbert "Herb" Zylstra, 95, of Richlandtown who passed away on Feb. 27, 2004 in his home. He was a self employed produce farmer in Richlandtown since 1934. Born in the Netherlands, he was the son of the late Jacob and Tjalkje (DeYoung) Zylstra. He is survived by a niece, Linda Cressman of Quakertown; a nephew, John Zylstra of Quakertown; and three great nieces.
