Kiefer, George

George Kiefer, of Longswamp, who had been ill all winter with dropsy, was stricken with paralysis last week, and next day died, aged 78 years. A widow and five children survive.

Kiefer, Geraldine G.

Services were held for Geraldine Gladys (Laver) Kiefer, 77, of Geigertown, widow of Irvin F. Kiefer, who died November 25 in St. Joseph's Medical Center, where he had been a patient. Born in Pottstown, she worked as a floor lady for the former Duvid Manufacturing of Birdsboro, retiring in 1987. She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Geigertown. Kiefer was a member of the Women's Club of Birdsboro and the Asbury Bible Class at St. Paul's Church. Surviving are a daughter, Joanne E. Kennedy of Robeson, Berks County; two sisters; two granddaughters; and three great-granddaughters. Contributions may be made to St. Paul's United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 6, Geigertown, PA 19523. Burial was in St. Paul's United Methodist Church Cemetery, Geigertown. The arrangements were handled by the Dengler Funeral Home, Birdsboro.

Kiefer, Lucy F.

Lucy F. Kiefer, 90, of Allentown, formerly of Center Valley, died April 30, 2003 in Phoebe Home, Allentown. She was the wife of the late Stanley H. Kiefer. Born in Chicago, Ill she was the daughter of the late Franz J. and Elizabeth (Krauklen-Crowley) Fischer. She was a bookkeeper for over 15 years at the former Willow Grove Plumbing and Heating Co., Quakertown, before retiring in 1992. Prior to that she worked a number of years at the former Coopersburg Shoe Factory, Coopersburg. She was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, Coopersburg. She is survived by one son, John of Quakertown; three daughters, Jeannine Schaffer, Nancy Anderson, and Evelyn Brown, all of Coopersburg; 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a grandson. Services were held May 5. Interment was in Quakertown Union Cemetery, Quakertown. Memorial contributions can be made to the charity of one's choice. Arrangements: Jeffrey A. Naugle Funeral Home, 20 N. Ambler St., Quakertown, PA 18951.

Kieffer, Abraham

Kieffer -- In Reading, on the 24th inst., Abraham Kieffer, aged 75 years and 15 days.

Kieffer, Mrs. Chas.

Mrs. Chas. Kieffer, of near Bower's Station, last week died in childbed after a week's severe suffering. Seven physicians were called, but without avail, a surgical operation having been performed as a last recourse. She had only been wedded a year.

Kieffer, Mrs. Chas.

Fully 2000 people attended the funeral of Mrs. Kieffer, near Bower's Station, on Sunday afternoon. People came there in all sorts of conveyances for many miles around, to satisfy their curiosity. The church was filled to overflowing, and there were two churches full outside unable to gain admittance.

Kieffer, Dorothy E.

Private services were arranged by the Mae A. Stump Funeral Home, Fleetwood, for Dorothy E. Kieffer, who died Feb. 3 in her Baldy Road, Maxatawny Township residence. She was predeceased by her husband, Jacob W. Kieffer, who died in 1979. Born in Kutztown, she was a daughter of the late Ulrich J. and Elizabeth (Humbert) Miller. She was a poet and in 1976 published a book entitled "From the Kitchen Window." Surviving are three sons: David N. Kieffer, Kutztown; Stephen H. Kieffer, Charlotte, N.C.; and John W. Kieffer, Pennsburg, Montgomery County. There are also four grandchildren.

Kieffer, Katie C. (nee Weider)

Mrs. Katie C. Kieffer, wife of Walter M. Kieffer, Fleetwood, died Wednesday morning at her home. She was 64. The daughter of the late Oscar and Mary (Zuber) Weider, Mrs. Kieffer was born in Rockland Township, Berks County. Surviving besides her husband are three daughters, Ethel H., wife of Franklin Angstadt, Charlotte, N.C.; Elsie K., wife of Russell Seaman, Fleetwood; and Jane E., wife of Gerald Master, Reading. Also surviving are six grandchildren and the following sisters and brothers: Mrs. Esther Hess, Rockland Township; Mrs. Elda Swavely, Reinholds; Adlai, Topton; Astor, Lyons; and Enson, of Reading.

Kieffer, Louise (nee Deisher)

Louise (nee Deisher), widow of Nicholas W. Kieffer, died at Kutztown, of complications, aged 75 years, 4 months and 2 days. Her husband died two years ago. She is survived by one daughter and two sons: Mrs. Alice Stump, at home; William, Richmond township; and Jacob, Philadelphia. Deceased was the last of the Deisher family. Funeral, Tuesday.

Kieffer, Marian

Marian Kieffer, 76, Chalfont, Bucks County, died July 13 in Central Montgomery Medical Center, Lansdale, Montgomery County. She was the wife of H. William Kieffer. Born in Reading, she was a daughter of the late John H. and Blanche E. (Steckler) Davis. Kieffer was a graduate of Muhlenberg High School. She was a member of the Lansdale United Methodist Church. Kieffer was a former Girl Scout leader. She is also survived by a son, Rex W., Pokomoke, Md.; and two daughters, Althea Kieffer, Doylestown, Bucks County, and Celeste (Kieffer) Brubaker, Chemnitz, Germany. Other survivors include a sister, Elizabeth Stegman, in Virginia. There are also five grandchildren. Services will be Monday at 10 a.m. in the Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home, Lansdale. Burial will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Lebanon County.

Kieffer, William D.

William D. Kieffer, a retired farmer, died suddenly of heart trouble at 1.30 Wednesday morning at his late home, 463 Main street, Kutztown. He was aged 60 years, 6 months and 11 days. Mr. Kieffer was born in Richmond township, Berks county, a son of the late Nicholas and Louisa (Deisher) Kieffer. He is survived by his wife, Minnie (Semmel) Kieffer; a sister, Alice, widow of Curtis stump, Kutztown, and a brother, Jacob Kieffer, Kempton R.D. The funeral will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock, daylight saving time, with short services from his late home and further services in St. John's Reformed church, Kutztown. Interment will be made in the adjoining cemetery.

Kielbasa, Richard D.

Private services were held for Dr. Richard D. Kielbasa, 51, Mitchell Avenue, Bern Township, who was killed Nov. 28 at Ontelaunee Mushroom Farm, Muhlenberg Township, where he was employed. Kielbasa was killed when he was apparently picked up by a front-end loader and deposited into a compost grinder. A death certificate has not been issued yet from the Berks County coroner's office. He was the husband of Linda S. (Stewart) Kielbasa. Born in Allison, Fayette County, he was a son of the late Steven and Mary (Burrrell) Kiebasa. He was employed for 24 years as an entomologist, quality-control supervisor and assistant general manager at the Ontelaunee Mushroom Farm. Kielbasa received a bachelor's degree in biology from California (Pa) State University in 1974 and a Ph.D. in entomology from Penn State University in 1978. Also surviving are a daughter, Amanda L. Kielbasa, at home, and a sister, Barbara (Kielbasa) Sassano, Allison, Fayette County. The Bean Funeral Home, Sinking Spring, was in charge of arrangements.

Kile, Eva M. (nee Gerhard)

Mrs. Eva M. Kile, 84, wife of George F. Kile, died Sunday night in her home, 1324 Lehigh St., Allentown. Born in Siesholtzville, Berks County, a daughter of the late John and Diana (Mangold) Gerhard, she lived in Allentown 34 years. She was a member of Huffs United Church of Christ. Surviving with her husband are two sons, John D. Rauch of Palm and Paul Gery of Allentown; a daughter, Mrs. Jennie Winzer of Allentown, and two grandchildren. Services will be at 3:30 p.m. Friday in the Reinsmith Funeral Home, 225 Elm St., Emmaus. Viewing will be 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday.

Killian, Wife of Dr.

The wife of Dr. Killian, residing on South Oak Street, died yesterday, at Hamburg.

Killian, E. Virginia

Services will be held in the Cramp Funeral Home, Reading, for E. Virginia Killian, 87, formerly of Bern Township, who died Jan. 10 in Reading Hospital, where she had been a patient for two days. She was taken to the hospital from ManorCare Health Services Inc., Muhlenberg Township. Burial was in Laureldale Cemetery, Tuckerton. She was predeceased by her husband, Woodrow E. Killian, who died July 8, 1971. Born in Reading, she was a daughter of the late William and Laura E. (Eisenbise) Wheeler. Until retiring in 1980, she was employed as a sewing machine operator by Sweigart's Hosiery for 10 years. She was a member of St. Stephen's United Church of Christ, Reading, Surviving are a son, Jeffrey B. Killian, Bern Township; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Killian, Estella A. (nee Rothermel)

Estella A Killian, 77, of 753 Acacia Ave., Riverview Park, formerly of West Lawn, was dead on arrival Friday afternoon at 3:32 in Reading Hospital.

She was predeceased by two husbands: Ralph C Moyer in 1961 and Luke L Killian in 1975.

Mrs. Killian had been employed by the Myers Canning Co., Muhlenberg Twp., before retiring in 1970.

Surviving are three daughters Gloria J., wife of Paul Dahms Jr., with whom she last resided; Charmaine A., wife of Richard Casey, Edina, MN., and Barbara J Hartman, Hyde Park.

Seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren and twp brothers Walter Rothermel, Temple RD1 and Charles Rothermel in California.

Also four sisters; Edna wife of Daniel Kerschner, Port Richey, FL.; Clara, wife of Lester Dautrich, Reading; Helen, wife of Edgar Strauss, Palmyra; and Catherine, wife if Frank Mull, Fleetwood RD 3.

Killian, Joyce M.

Services were held for Joyce M. Killian, 81, formerly of Fire Tower Road, Geigertown, who died June 10 in the residence of a daughter, Bonnie J. (Killian) Hammond, Greenway Terrace. She was predeceased by her husband, Alfred L. Killian in 2002. Killian and her husband were owners-operators for 35 years of Lincoln Plumbing & Heating Co., and was a former officer of the Reading Suburban Association of Plumbing, Heating & Cooling Contractors. She was also the owner of Joys Bath Boutique, Reading, retiring in 1985. Born in Reading, Killian was a member of Christ (Yocom) Lutheran Church, Grill. She was a graduate of Reading High School. Killian is also survived by another daughter, Sharon A. (Killian) Kendall, Mohnton. Other survivors include four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Burial was in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Reiffton. The Bean Funeral Homes Inc., Shillington, was in charge of the arrangements.

Killian, Lewis John

The funeral of Lewis John, a four-months-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Killian, of near town, who died of heart trouble, was held from his parents' residence on Monday afternoon and was largely attended. After short services at the house, the cortege proceeded to Longswamp Church where a regular funeral sermon was preached and interment made in the cemetery adjoining. Rev. Bond, of Shamrock, officiated and the Undertaker DeLong, of Longswamp had charge over the remains.

Killmer, Isaac N.

Killmer - In Marion township, Berks co., July 20th, Isaac N. Killmer, aged 74 years, 10 months and 9 days.

Kimmel, Ferne M.

Retired teacher Services were held in the Geschwindt-Stabingas Funeral Home, Schuylkill Haven, for Ferne M. Kimmel, 64, Auburn, who died of natural causes Nov. 9 in Pottsville Hospital. Burial was in Zion's Red Church Cemetery, Orwigsburg. She was predeceased by her husband, Leo Kimmel, who died in 2001. Born in Pottsville, she was a daughter of the late Elmer A. and Stella P. (Schrader) Strausser. She was a graduate of Kutztown University. Kimmel was a teacher at Shartlesville Elementary School for 30 years, and was last employed as a fith grade math and science teacher in the Schuylkill Haven School District until retiring in 2000. She was a volunteer at the Food Pantry, Orwigsburg. Surviving are two sons, Jason Kimmel and Jerome Kimmel, both of Auburn, and five grandson. Other survivors include two sister, Marian Strausser, Schuylkill Haven, and Lena (Strausser) Yoder, Auburn.

Kimmel, Geneva F. H.

Services were held in St. John's Lutheran Church, Emmaus, Lehigh County, for Geneva F. Hieter Kimmel, formerly of Topton and Emmaus, who died May 17 in the Masonic Homes, Elizabethtown, Lancaster County. Burial was in St. Paul's Union Cemetery, Trexlertown. She was the wife of M. Edward Kimmel, and was predeceased by her first husband, Raymond G. Hieter, who died in 1967. Born in Emmaus, she was a daughter of the late Walter J. and Neda (Bobst) Yeahl. Until retiring, she was employed by General Electric, Emmaus. She and her husband previously operated a beauty shop in Topton for 30 years. She was a graduate of Emmaus High School. Also surviving are a daughter, Salley (Kimmel) Kohl, Breinigsville; a stepdaughter, Barbara Hoffman, Emmaus; and two stepsons, James Kimmel, West Chester, and William Wagner, Downington, Chester County. There are also 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Other survivors include two brothers, Cleave Yeahl, Breinigsville, and Richard Yeahl, Allentown; and two sisters, Bernetta (Yeahl) Hunsinger and Gladys (Yeahl) Ott, both of Allentown. The Frank S. Miller Funeral Home, Elizabethtown, is in charge of arrangements.

Kimmel, Irma R.

Among the local survivors of Irma R. (Dreher) Kimmel, 86, of Grantville, Dauphin County, who died June 7 in Hershey Medical Center, is a daughter, Nancy Jean (Kimmel) Reppert, Hamburg.

Kinder, Joan

Private services were held for Joan Kinder, 61, of Adams Drive, Exeter Township, who died February 2 in her residence. She was the wife of Robert H. Kinder. Born in Reading, Kinder was employed for 13 years as a title clerk by Penske Truck Leasing, last working January 24. She was also the owner of Pony Expresso Co. and Luv Buds to Go, both of Exeter Township, from 1985 until 2002. She previously worked as a secretary in the engineering department of Western Electric Corp., Muhlenberg Township, from 1959 until 1978. Kinder was a 1958 graduate of Muhlenberg High School. She is also survived by a son, Michael K. Smith, Reading, and a stepson, Erik T. Kinder, Shillington. There are also two grandsons and two step-grandchildren. Burial was in Laureldale Cemetery, Tuckerton. The Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home Inc., West Reading, was in charge of the arrangements.

Kindt, Harvey

Harvey Kindt, 55, well known Red Hill business man, civic leader and churchman, died Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Community hospital, Quakertown, of a fractured skull received three hours earlier in a fall at his Red Hill place of business. Mr. Kindt, the senior partner in the Kindt and Schwoyer coal, feed and lumber business, was found unconscious in front of a shed where he had gone to get a bale of hay stored in the loft of the building. He was found by Leroy Walter, an employe. It was believed that Mr. Kindt slipped or fell headlong from the ladder or the loft. Deputy Coroner Raymond D. Tice issued a certificate of accidental death due to a fractured skull. Dr. J. A. Klotz of east Greenville, who was called, ordered him taken to the hospital, where he died without regaining consciousness. Mrs. Kindt, who had taken a bus to Allentown and did not know of the accident, was met at the Allentown terminal by a police officer who relayed to her the message given him by hospital attachees. She went immediately to the hospital. Mr. Kindt had been a resident of Red Hill for 20 years and was secretary of the Red Hill school board for the last 18 years. He was also a justice of the peace and a director of the Red Hill Savings and Loan Assn., and recently retired as a director of the First National bank of Green Lane. He was an elder and member of the Pennsburg Reformed church. Born in Molltown, Berks county, the son of Samuel Kindt and Katie, nee Wenner, Kindt, he is survived by his mother, a resident of Shoemakersville, Berks county; his wife, Katie, nee DeLong, Kindt; three children, Rev. Norman Kind, Tribes Hill, N.Y.; Bennett Kindt, a teacher-student at Cornell university; Anna Kindt, a school teacher at Lower Makefield School, Bucks county. Two brothers and sisters also survive. They are: Samuel Kindt, Upper Darby, Pa.; Adam Kindt, Reading; Annie Kindt, Shoemakersville, Pa., and Mrs. Arlan Kauffman, Harrisburg. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. from the Benner Funeral home, 612 Main St., Red Hill. Rev. Wilmer C. Mantz and Rev. Morris D. Slifer will officiate. Interment in Pennsburg Reformed church cemetery.

Kindt, Katie I. (nee DeLong)

Mrs. Katie I. (DeLong) Kindt, formerly of East Greenville, died yesterday in Mercer Hospital, Trenton, N.J. She was 67. Born in Lenhartsville, Berks County, she was a daughter of the late George and Annie (Adam) DeLong. She was a member of the Pennsburg United Church of Christ. Her husband, Harvey Kindt, preceded her in death. Surviving are a daughter, Anna, wife of Spencer Liptencott of Trenton; two sons, Bennett of Schnectedy and the Rev. Norman Kindt of Trenton; three sisters, Mrs. Lizzie Fitzsimmons of Caldwell, N.J., Bertha, wife of Charles Ehrie of Kutztown, and Elda, wife of Frank Wagaman of Lenhartsville, and seven grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Hunsberger Funeral Home, 163 Main St., Pennsburg. Viewing will be after 7 p.m. tomorrow.

Kindt, Samuel

Kindt -- In Maidencreek, September 20th, Samuel Kindt, aged 77 years and 3 days.

King, Ella E.

Among the local survivors of Ella E. (Morris) King, 74, who died May 27 in her Fleetwood residence, is a sister, Joanne (Morris) Faust, Bernville.

King, Infant Daughter

The infant daughter of John and Margaret (Engle) King, died in their home, Reading R.D.2. Surviving are the parents, two brothers John and George, at home. The paternal grandmother Mrs. Mazie King, of Reading R.D.2; the maternal grandfather Earl Engle, Mohnton R.D. 1. And the great'grandfather Frank Wartluft, Cocalico. Burial was made in the Fleetwood Cemetery.

King, Isaac

Isaac King died of a complication of diseases, at his residence, 523 South 5th street, aged 78 years. Deceased was ailing 6 months. He was born in Delaware and came to this city about 36 years ago. Up to the time of his illness he was employed in the drilling department of the P. & R. car shops, where he had worked 30 years. Deceased was a member of St. Peter's Methodist Episcopal church, the P. & R. Relief Association and the A. P. A. His wife died about 20 years ago. The following children remain; William D., Mary and Madella King, all of this city.

Kinkinger, Harry Daniel

Harry Daniel Kinkinger, aged forty four years, of Reading, died Wednesday morning at the home of his mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Kinkinger on East Centre street, Nazareth, from a stroke of apoplexy which he suffered on Sunday last. The deceased was a son of the late William H. Kinkinger, of Nazareth. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Kinkinger, two brothers and one sister, Robert W. And Edward Kinkinger, of Reading, and Miss Martha E. Kinkinger, of Nazareth. The deceased was a baker by occupation and moved to Reading from Nazareth twenty-one years ago. The funeral will be held at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon from the home of his mother with interment in Moravian cemetery.

Kintzer, Henry

Kintzer - On February 11th, Henry Kintzer, son of Adam and Anna Maria Kintzer, and husband on Harriet Burkholder, aged 52 years and 3 days.

Kintzer, Mary Mahala (nee Potteiger)

Mary Mahala Kintzer, daughter of Hiram C. and Catharine (Wenrich) Potteiger, was born June 3, 1870, in Marion township; confirmed May 31, 1884 in Christ's Church at Stouchsburg. She married Georeg B. Kintzer, which union was blessed with one daughter. She died October 22, 1906, aged 36y4m19d.

Kirby, Solomon

Kirby - On the 17th inst., Solomon Kirby, in the 75 year of his age at Kirbyville.

Kirkhoff, David L.

David L. Kirkhoff, 54, died of natural causes Aug. 29 in his residence in Ontelaunee Township. He was the husband of Linda L. (Hatt) Kirkhoff. Born in Reading, he was a son of the late Miles W. and Mildred L. (Sensenig) Kirkhoff. Kirkhoff was employed for 24 years by Lentz Milling Co., Reading, last working Aug. 19. He was also employed for 30 years by the Leesport Farmers Market & Auction. Kirkhoff was a self-employed farmer on the family farm. He was a member of Salem (Belleman's) Church, Centre Township. Kirkhoff is also survived by a son, Timothy P., at home. Other survivors include a sister, Patricia A. (Kirkhoff) Yocum, Leesport. Services will be Friday at 10 a.m. in the Kirkhoff Funeral Home, Bernville. Burial will be in Bern Cemetery, Bern Township.

Kirkhoff, Grace A.

Grace A. Kirkhoff, 81, formerly of Pottstown, died April 7 in the Frederick Mennonite Community, Montgomery County. Her husband, Paul D. Kirkhoff, died Nov. 7, 1996. Born in Reading, she was a daughter of the late William C. and Norman A. (Lutz) Fisher. Kirkhoff was employed as a gas-mask assembler by Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. in Columbia, S.C., during World War II. She was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Obelisk, Montgomery County. Kirkhoff was a Sunday school teacher for 20 years at St. John's Lutheran Church, Pottstown. Surviving are two sons, Michael P., Reading, and Donald N., Douglassville; and two daughters, Sharon Rae (Kirkhoff) Souders, Gilbertsville, and Bonita L. Kirkhoff, Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Kirkhoff, Robert J.

Former businessman. Services were held in the Kirkhoff Funeral Home, Bernville, for Robert J. Kirkhoff, who was pronounced dead June 26 in his Fifth Street, Bernville residence. He died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, and a certificate of suicide was issued. Burial was in St. Thomas Cemetery, Bernville. He was the husband of Dorothy L. (Hoffa) Kirkhoff. Born in Wernersville, he was a son of the late James J. and Minnie (Himmelberger) Kirkhoff. Until retiring in 1997, he was the owner and operator of Kirkhoff Furniture Store, Bernville, for 27 years. He previously worked 18 years for the Irvin J. Kirkhoff Funeral Home and Furniture Store, Bernville. Kirkhoff was a Korean War Army veteran. He was past president of the Northkill Rod and Gun Club, Penn Township. Kirkhoff served as a former manager of the Bernville Water Authority and as a board member of the Bernville Bank. He was a 32nd degree mason with Williamson Lodge 307 F&AM, Womelsdorf. Kirkhoff was a member of St. Thomas United Church of Christ, Bernville. Also surviving are a daughter, Joanne B. (Kirkhoff) Price, Robesonia; and two sons, Kevin S. Kirkhoff, Cody, Wyo., and Joel R. Kirkhoff, Telluride, Colo. There are also three grandchildren. Other survivors include two brothers, William Kirkhoff and James Kirkhoff, both of West Lawn; and five sisters: Kathryn (Kirkhoff) Groover, Jacksonville, Fla.; Elsie (Kirkhoff) Fister, Canfield, Ohio; Bonnie Kirkhoff and Betty (Kirkhoff) Hafer, both of Allentown; and Helen (Kirkhoff) Remlinger, Wyomissing.

Kirkoff, Richard D.

Services will be held Aug. 13, 11 a.m., in the Kirkhoff Funeral Home, Bernville, for Richard D. Kirkhoff, formerly of Indian Manor Drive, Leesport, who died Aug. 8 in Phoebe Berks Health Care Center, Wernersville, where he had resided since July 2002. Burial will be in Bern Cemetery, Bern Township. He was the husband of Erma M. (Yenser) Kirkhoff. Born in Penn Township, he was a son of the late Albert S. and Margaret (Davis) Kirkhoff. Until retiring in 1979, he was employed by Carpenter Technology Corp., Reading, for over 23 years. He was a member of Bern Lutheran Church, Bern Township, where he served as councilman. Also surviving are a son, Robert R. Kirkhoff, Hershey, and two daughters, Linda M. (Kirkhoff) Mark, Annville, Lebanon County, and Jane E. (Kirkhoff) Limpus, North Canton, Ohio. There are also five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Other survivors include a brother, Elwood Kirkhoff, Leesport, and a sister, Margaret (Kirkhoff) Baer, Mohrsville.

Kirn, Dorothy M.

Services and burial were private for Dorothy M. Kirn, 83, formerly of Romyn's Country Home, Exeter Township, who died July 28 in Beverly Manor, Exeter Township, where she had resided since 2001. Her husband, Louis S. Kirn Sr., died in 1999. Born in Hyde Park, she was employed for five years as a cashier and saleswoman by the Croll & Keck men's store, Reading, retiring in 1970. She was a member of Nativity Lutheran Church, Reading, where she was a former Sunday school and Bible school teacher for many years. Surviving are a son, Barry L. Oakes, Baxley, Ga., and a daughter, Janice D. (Oakes) Sands, Exeter Township. Other survivors include a sister; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild. The arrangements were handled by the Lutz Funeral Home Inc., Mount Penn.

Kirn, Herman F.

Following a long illness, Herman F. Kirn, aged 82 years, died this morning of complications, at St. Joseph's Hospital. He lived retired for the last 10 years at 831 Moss street. He was a native of Germany and formerly was employed at the Nolde & Horst hosiery plant. He was a member of Salem United Brethren Church. His wife passed away last March.

He leaves 11 children, as follows: Anna, wife of Charles Townsley; Mary, wife of John Adams; Augusta, wife of Jacob Folk; Georgiana, wife of Edward R. Brown; Catharine, wife of Edgar Zweizig, all of Reading; Luella, wife of Calvin Folk, Mt. Penn; Louis, Stony Creek; Herman, jr., Daniel, John and Ralph Kirn, this city. Surviving also are 51 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, two brothers, Louis and George Kirn, Reading, and three sisters, Edith, wife of Amos Lorah; Anna, widow of John Manegold, Reading, and Emma, wife of Charles Scheidt, Philadelphia.

Kirst, Elizabeth

The Funeral of Mrs. Elizabeth Kirst, widow of Frank Kirst, was held from her residence, 650 North Tenth Street. The remains were dressed in a black silk dress and rested in a square cornered black broadcloth covered casket, with silver extension handles, silver trimmings and plate with name and age of deceased inscribed. Rev. F. K. Huntzinger was in charge of the services, held at the house. Interment was made in Charles Evans cemetery. Undertake Seidel had charge.

Charles Kisel, one of the oldest residents of Dale, suffering for some time from infirmities, died suddenly of paralysis age 83 years 2 months and 16 days. He drew a civil war pension for the last 3 years. He is survived by a son and 2 daughters, William of Mertztown, Mrs. Joseph Andrews of Royersford, and Mrs. Firing of Philadelphia. Rev. Lydia, wife of Abraham S. Kissinger, 340 Pearl, died of general debility at 9 p.m., Thursday, aged 79 years and 28 days. Deceased was ailing the past year and confined to bed several weeks. She was born in Spring township, where she resided until about 35 years ago, when the family came to this city. She was a member of Kissingewr's Reformed Church. Three children remain: Mrs. Henry K. Bohn, residing in Bern; Mrs. Dautrich Clark and Mrs. George Albright, of this city.

Kissling, Ralph A.

Ralph A. Kissling, 85, a long-time Bernville business owner, died July 21 at 12:25 p.m. in Reading Hospital, where he had been a patient since July 7. He was a Bernville resident.

He was the husband of Marilyn M. (Snyder) Kissling. Born in Jefferson Township, he was a son of the late Lehman W. and Florence A. (Stump) Kissling. Kissling was owner-operator of Kissling's Feed Mill and Kissling's School Bus Service, both in Bernville, until 1976. He later owned and operated Kissling's Ball Field, Bernville, since 1978. Kissling previously worked for many years as a letter carrier in Bernville for the United States Postal Service, and was a public sales clerk for various local auctioneers. He was a member of St. Thomas United Church of Christ, Bernville, where he served on the consistory for many years. Kissling was a 1938 graduate of Bernville School. He was a charter member of the Bernville Lions Club and had played clarinet in the Centerport Band. Kissling is also survived by two sons, Arthur M. and John L., both of Bernville; and five daughters: Diana R. (Kissling) Kehler and Carol J. (Kissling) Zellers, both of Bernville; Janet L. (Kissling) Bown, Canton, Bradford County; Candace A. (Kissling) Keeney, Bethel; and Amy J. (Kissling) Vuxta, Elizabethtown, Lancaster County. Other survivors include a sister, Fern (Kissling) Wenrich, Reading. There are also 17 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Kirkhoff Funeral Home, Bernville. Burial will be in St. Thomas Cemetery, Bernville.

Services will be Thursday for Allen H. Kistler, 87, of Houck Road, Ruscombmanor Township, who died March 16 in the Denver Nursing Home, Stevens, Lancaster County, where he had resided since December. He was the husband of Mamie L. (Christman) Kistler. Born in Kempton, he was employed for 30 years as a press operator and assembly-line worker by Parish Structural Products Division, Reading, retiring in 1978. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Kistler was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Fleetwood, where he was a former councilman. He is also survived by a son, Bruce A., at home; and two daughters, Diane L. (Kistler) Whitehead, Fleetwood, and Dolores M. (Kistler) Keiser, Mount Penn. Other survivors include a brother and a sister. Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. in Milkins Funeral Home Inc., Temple. Burial will be in Laureldale Cemetery, Tuckerton.

Kistler, Assie

Assie, wife of William H. Kistler, and daughter of Jacob and the late Sarah (nee Trexler) Wessner, died at the home of her father at Wessnersville on Thursday morning at 6.15, after a short illness of eclampsia. Mrs. Kistler attained the age of 42 years, 1 month and 2 days. On March 4, 1909, she was married to William H. Kistler. The couple was blessed with two daughters, Hilda and an infant two days old, who survive, besides her husband, aged father, a brother, Jerry Wessner, all of Wessnersville, and three sisters, Mrs. Frank Snyder, of Lynnville; Mrs. Frances Faust, of Albany, and Mrs. William Koenig, of Newside. Mrs. Kistler was a life long resident of Albany township and was an active worker both in the Friedens Sunday school and church, of which she was a member of the Lutheran denomination. Funeral services will be held at noon Tuesday from her father's residence and further services in the New Jerusalem (Red) church. Rev. A. O. Ebert will officiate. Undertaker Samuel Nester, of Steinsville, has charge.

Edward Kistler, 62, of Stony Run, Berks County, died yesterday in Allentown Hospital. He was employed at Caloric Corp., in Topton. Born in Kempton, Kistler was a son of the late Edward and Ellen (Schlenker) Kistler. He was a member of the Lutheran congregation of Jerusalem Red Church, Kempton R. 1. Surviving are his widow, the former Hilda Kunkel; a son Richard of Sarasota, Fla.; two daughters, Joan, wife of Werner Miller of Shoemakersville, Berks County, and Phyllis, wife of Kenneth Follweiler of Lynnport; a sister, E. Florence, wife of Victor Keefer of Kempton; and six grandchildren. Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Claude S. Nester Funeral Home, Jacksonville.

Born in Greenwich township, Oct. 15, 1876, she was a daughter of the late Joshua and Sarah (nee Stoyer) Bailey. Besides her husband, she is survived by one sister, Mary A. Miller of Tamaqua. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the late home, Stony Run, with continued services in Frieden's church, Stony Run. Interment in adjoining cemetery.

Kistler, George

Injuries suffered late Thursday afternoon in a two-car collision near Kempton proved fatal at 7:20 o'clock yesterday morning to George Kistler, 58-year-old Stony Run resident and State Highway Department employee. Kistler was unconscious from the time of his admittance to the Reading hospital until his death. Nearly scalped in the impact, he also suffered a possible fracture of the skull and a fractured jaw. Three other men, occupants of the other machine in the accident on the Lenhartsville-Schnecksville road, near Kempton, remained patients at the Allentown hospital. ... George Kistler, who was driving alone when the accident happened, has been employed by the State Highway Department for the last two years. He formerly conducted a farm in the Kistler Valley. He sold the property a number of years ago. Born in Stony Run, he was the son of the late Edwin D. and Elmira (Levan) Kistler. Survivors include his wife, Mabel (Stump) Kistler; three sons, Norman, New Tripoli; Harold, Stony Run; George Jr., at home; a daughter, Marion, of Reading; three brothers, William, his twin brother, Stony Run; John, proprietor of the Kistler store, Stony Run; Hiram, Plainfield, N.J.; five sisters, Mrs. Anna C. Smith, Stony Run; Clarabel, Edith, both of Stony Run; Mrs. Helen Maude Cave, Bakersfield, Calif.; Mrs. Arthur B. Klingaman, Lynnport, and one grandchild. Jacob M. Kistler died of infirmities of old age, at Reading, aged 77 years. He was born in Lynn township, this county, and moved to Reading last April. He was well known in Lehigh County, having first been engaged in distilling business for several years and later in tanning together with farming for over forty years. He retired a number of years ago. He was a member of the New Jerusalem Lutheran Church. Eleven children survive: Dr. Willoughly Kistler of Germansville; James Kistler, Kansas City; Dr. Jacob Kistler of Stony Run; Mary, wife of David Bachman, Weidasville; Ella, wife of Dr. E. W. Seidel, Reading; Millie, wife of S. R. Rothermel, Reading; Katie, wife of James Braucher, Stony Run; Lydia, wife of A. B. Kunkel of Lenhartsville; Sarah, wife of John Fusselman, Atchison, Kan.; and Lizzie, wife of William Lauchton of New Tripoli, besides two sisters, Mrs. Charles Faust of Steinsville and Mrs. Peter Steif of Seipstown and three brothers, Michael Kistler of Stroudsburg, William Kistler of Delaware Water Gap and Daniel of Tamaqua. Deceased parents both reached 80 years.

Mrs. Mary A. Kistler, 79, of Kutztown R. 1, died Sunday in her home. She was the wife of Herbert C. Kistler. Born in Allentown, she was a daughter of the late Thomas F. and Lizzie H. (Stoudt) Merkel. She was a member of New Jerusalem Zion United Church of Christ, Krumsville. She was treasurer of the Kutztown Senior Citizens for the last 10 years. Surviving with her husband are two daughters, Maryanne V. Geiger, of Middletown, Dauphin County; and Carolyn J., wife of John H. Stettler, of Kutztown R. 2; three sons, Roy S. Kehm, of Allentown R. 7; Robert G. Kehm, of Orefield; and Alton E. Kehm, of Bowers; two stepdaughters, Geneva L., wife of John Grim, of Wescosville R. 1; and Ruth K., wife of Harold Fegley, of Kutztown; five stepsons, Russell H. Kistler, of shillington, Berks County; Paul F. and Charles a. Kistler, both of Emmaus; Herbert J. Kistler, of Kutztown R. 3; and Harlan G. Kistler, of River View Park, Berks County; a sister Edna, wife of Charles W. Fegely, of Mertztown R. 2; two brothers, Clarence, of Mertztown R. 2; and Roy T., of Warminster, Bucks County; 21 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the Trexler & Hook Funeral Home, 25 E. Weiss St.,Topton. Calling hours will be 7-8:30 pm. Wednesday.

Kistler, 86, formerly of Hill Drive, Tilden Township, who died June 11 in Laurel Center Genesis Elder Care, Tilden Township, where she had resided since February. Burial was in the Fairview (Belleman's) Cemetery, Centre Township. She was predeceased by her husband, Philip J. Kistler, who died Feb. 9, 1999. Born in Berne, Tilden Township, she was a daughter of the late Mahlon R. and Verna (Yeager) Leiby. Until retiring in 1979, she was employed as a press operator by the Hamburg Knitting Mill for 20 years. She was a member of Salem (Belleman's) Church, Centre Township. Surviving is a son, Philip M. Kistler, Hamburg; three granddaughters; and three great-grandchildren. Other survivors include a brother, Ray M. Leiby, Hamburg, and a sister, Jean (Leiby) Grim, Tilden Township. The Leibensperger Funeral Home, Hamburg, was in charge of arrangements.

Kistler, Mary E. (nee Trexler)

Mrs. Mary E. (Trexler) Kistler, widow of Lloyd P. Kistler, died yesterday morning at her home on Kempton R. 2, near Wanamakers. She was 82 years old. Mrs. Kistler was born in Albany township, Berks county, a daughter of the late Nathan D. and Harriet (Kline) Trexler. She was a member of New Jerusalem Red church, near Kempton, the Ladies Aid society of the church, and the New Bethel Ladies Aid society. Survivors include a daughters, Mrs. Martha Klingaman, Emmaus; a son, Nathan D. Kistler, at home; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and a daughter.

N. David Kistler, 73, longtime farmer, truck company founder. N. David "Dave" Kistler, 73, of 9128 King's Highway, Kempton, died Saturday at his home. Born in Lynn Township, Lehigh County, he was a son of the late Nathan D. and Hattie M. Berk Kistler. He was a 1940 graduate of Slatington High School. He was a farmer since 1940 in Lehigh, Berks, Carbon and Schuylkill counties. His family farmed over 1,000 acres. He was the largest vegetable producer for the Campbell Soup Co.'s Camden, N.J., plant from 1946 until it closed in the late 1970s. He received the Pennsylvania State Tomato Growers Championship for the Class B Machine Harvest in 1982. Since the mid-1980s, the farming operation switched to mostly grain farming. He was also the founder and president of Dave Kistler and Grandson Trucking Co. Inc., Kempton, since 1987, a transporter of municipal waste and other products. He was a member of the Lutheran congregation of Jerusalem "Red" Union Church, RD1 Kempton. Surviving are his wife, the former Catherine L. Bond, to whom he was married 52 years in December; a daughter, Faye D. DeLong, at home; a grandson; a great-grandson. Services will be held at 8 p.m. Wednesday from Robert S. Nester Funeral Home, Jacksonville. The Rev. Carl Borger will officiate. Interment will be in Jerusalem "Red" Union Church Cemetery, RD1 Kempton.

Samuel J. Kistler, for practically all of his life a farmer along Kempton R. 1, died yesterday morning at his late home near Kempton. He was 78 years old. Mr. Kistler had been in failing health for some time. Born in Lynn township, Lehigh county, he was a son of the late Jonas and Lovina, nee Brobst, Kistler. He was a member of the Lutheran congregation of the New Jerusalem (Red) church. Surviving are his widow, Louisa Jane, nee Krause, Kistler, and these children: George J. and Robert J. Kistler of Alburtis; S. Joseph Kistler, Allentown; Phaon J. Kistler, Kempton R. 1; William J. Kistler, Allentown; Addie L., wife of Calvin Peters, Kutztown, and Stella M., wife of George C. Kistler, Andreas. Four children preceded him in death. He is also survived by 29 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was the last member of his family. Funeral services will be held Monday at 1:30 p.m. at his late home near Kempton. Regular services will follow in the New Jerusalem (Red) church. Interment will be in the cemetery. Friends may call Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. Rev. LeRoy Bond will officiate.

Stephen W. Kistler, a well-known farmer of near Kempton, died of apoplexy at his home on Tuesday morning. Funeral on Saturday. Interment at New Jerusalem Church. Deceased was the son of the late Philip Kistler and was about forty-two years old. He was a member of the Kempton Lodge, Jr. O.U.A.M. The widow and the following children survive: Hattie, Kate, Mamie and Alfred.

Mrs. Villian (Reinert) Kistler, 82, the widow of Erwin K. Kistler, died yesterday at her home, 533 N. 9th St. Born in Huffs Church, Berks County, she was a daughter of the late Abraham and Ellen (Beitler) Reinert. She spent most of her life in Allentown and was a member of St. Michael's Lutheran Church and the Home Department of its Sunday School. She is survived by one son, Raymond A., Allentown; a daughter, Leila, wife of John Gemmel, Elizabeth, N.J.; four grandchildren, Mrs. Joanne Welty, with whom she lived; Donald, Allentown; Mrs. Norman Brubaker, Cranford, N.J., and John Gemmel Jr., Valley Stream, L.I.; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Jennie Gery and Mrs. Alice Eschbach, Reading, and a brother, Arades Reinert, Huffs Church. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Hobart, two brothers and a sister.

Klahr, Harold W.

Harold W. Klahr, 82, formerly of Temple, died Aug. 12 at 8:25 a.m. in Berks Heim Annex, where he had been a resident since Feb. 14. His wife, Nellie Marie (Dechant) Klahr, died Dec. 11, 1990. Born in Reading, he was a son of the late Davilla W. and Opal R. (Herrmann) Klahr. Klahr had been employed for many years as a teacher by various area school districts, including the former Perry High School, retiring in 1984. He was a graduate of Reading High School and East Stroudsburg State Teacher's College. Klahr is survived by a stepdaughter, Janice M. (Baer) Dewald, Bern Township. There are also six stepgrandchildren, 12 stepgreat-grandchildren and one stepgreat-great-grandson. He was predeceased by a stepson, Carl E. Baer Jr., in June 1990, and a stepdaughter, Louise M. (Baer) Mauer, in October 2004. Services will be Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. in Walter R. Christ Funeral Home Inc., Laureldale. Burial will be in Laureldale Cemetery, Tuckerton.

Klase, Annie P. (nee Bubbenmoyer)

Ill two weeks at home, Mrs. Annie P. Klase, 33-year-old mother of five children, died Saturday at the Allentown hospital where she was a patient for four days. She was the wife of Herbert W. Klase, East Macungie. Born in Berks county, a daughter of Alvin B. Bubbenmoyer of Blandon, and the late Katie (Epling) Bubbenmoyer, she was a member of Macungie's Grace Lutheran church. Besides her husband and father, she is survived by these children: Donald, Russell, Joan and Betty, at home; Mildred at Blandon; two brothers, Clarence of Bernville; Elmer of West Hamburg; five sisters, Mrs. Reuben Hinnerschitz of Blandon; Mrs. Clarence Burkhart of Halfway House; Mrs. Charles Sellers of Greenawalds; Mrs. Warren Becker of Blandon; Mrs. Ervin Mengel of Topton. Funeral Arrangements are being completed by the Schmoyer funeral home at Breinigsville.

Kleckner, E. Joan (nee Redcay)

E. Joan Kleckner, 74, Laureldale, died June 24 at 2:10 a.m. in Reading Hospital, where she had been a patient since June 2. She was the wife of John R. Kleckner. Born in Reading, she was a daughter of the late Grace (Beane) Redcay. Kleckner was secretary-treasurer of John R. Kleckner Roofing Co., Laureldale, since 1961. She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, Laureldale. Kleckner is also survived by a daughter, Susan (Kleckner) Christman, Alsace Township, and two sons, Gary S., Richmond, Va., and Jan M., Laureldale. Other survivors include a brother, Jack Redcay, Alsace Township. There are also four grandchildren. Memorial services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Calvary Lutheran Church. Kopicki-Bradley Funeral Home Inc. is in charge of arrangements.

Klein, Frank A.

Frank A. Klein, a retired and aged resident of Kutztown, died there Monday afternoon at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. George A. Schearer, Highland avenue, from complications, aged 81 years, 6 months and 7 days. He was a native of Germany and was a son of the late Benjamin and Anna Klein. The family resided in the west for some time, but a number of years ago, Mr. Klein located in Kutztown. He is survived by one daughter and two grandchildren. The funeral will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Schearer home. Interment will be made in Hope cemetery.

Kleinknecht, Grace I.

Grace I. Kleinknecht, 92, formerly of Lenhartsville, died Aug. 7 at 5:45 p.m. in Reading Hospital. She was taken to the hospital from the Lutheran Home at Topton, where she had resided since Feb. 2, 2001. Her husband, Christian Kleinknecht, died Dec. 9, 1968. Born in Greenwich Township, she was a daughter of the late Edgar S. and Katie P. (Leiby) Dietrich. Kleinknecht operated a produce stand at the former Hyde Villa Farmers Market, Reading, for 10 years, and was employed for 15 years by J. C. Gilardone, Virginville. She was a member of Frieden's United Church of Christ, Lenhartsville, where she was a former Sunday School teacher and choir member for many years. Kleinknecht was secretary of the Senior Citizens Group in Virginville and Kempton for 10 years. Surviving is a son, Glenn I. Dietrich, Kutztown. Other survivors include two stepsons, Robert Kleinknecht, Mohrsville, and William Kleinknecht, Wilmington, Del. Also surviving are two brothers, Henry W. Dietrich, Lenhartsville, and Elton N. Dietrich, Kutztown. There are also two grandchildren, a stepgranddaughter, a great-granddaughter and two stepgreat-grandsons. Services will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in the Ludwick Funeral Homes Inc., Kutztown. Burial will be in Frieden's Church Cemetery, Lenhartsville.

Kleinschmidt, Frederick

Frederick Kleinschmidt died suddenly from the effects of heart affection Friday at Reading. Deceased was taken suddenly ill on Thursday and his condition became gradually worse until he passed away. Mr. Kleinschmidt would have celebrated his seventy-third birthday anniversary yesterday. He had been in ill health for three years. Deceased was born on November 3, 1838, in Balfrantz, Germany, and was a son of John and Sophia (nee Klemz) Kleinschmidt, both deceased. He came to American 42 years ago, coming direct to Reading. He was a shoemaker by occupation and conducted a repair shop in the rear of his home. Deceased is survived by his widow, Amelia, and these sisters and brothers: Mrs. Caroline Mayer, Reading; Earnst, Nebraska; Molly, wife of Rev. Emil Meister, Lancaster; Mrs. George Ganster and Mrs. Jacob Baugeithel, both of Reading; William, Allentown; Mrs. Adam Mayer, Mohnton; John, Neversink, and George, of Reading. Deceased was a member of St. John's German Lutheran Church.

Kleintop, Eva M. (nee Roth)

Mrs. Eva M. Kleintop, 41, S. Jefferson St., who was admitted Friday to Allentown hospital, died at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. She was 63. Born in Mertztown, she was a daughter of the late George and Elizabeth (Fritch) Roth. She resided practically all of her life in Allentown. Mrs. Kleintop was a member of the Reformed faith. Survivors are five children, Dorothy, wife of Osville Paules, with whom she resided; Margaret, wife of Anthony Rannazzisi, Brooklyn; Nelson Kleintop, Bowmanstown; Mrs. Lillian Broughman, Lancaster; John Kleintop, Palmerton; three brothers, Harry Roth, Emmaus; George and William Roth, Allentown; seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two daughters.

Kleman, Jr. William and Kleman, Francis

Brothers Suffocate In Refrigerator While Playing In Reading Reading, PA.--An unused refrigerator brought death to a Reading household Sunday. Five year-old William Kleman Jr. and his brother, Francis, four, suffocated in it while playing in the basement of their home. The bodies of the boys were discovered by their mother, Mrs. Marie Kleman, who had been searching the house for four hours to prepare them for bed. When she opened the door of the refrigerator, William's body fell out. She carried him upstairs to the living room sofa. Her screams attracted a neighbor who removed Francis' body. The mother of seven children, Mrs. Kleman was treateed for shock and hysteria. Her husband, a brakeman for the Reading Railroad, was at work.

Klick, Mrs. Wallace (nee Mengel)

After an illness of four months, suffering with kidney troubles, Mrs. Wallace Klick (nee Mengel) died Thursday at her home southwest of Kutztown, aged 44 years. Her father, George Mengel, of Strausstown; a brother, Irvin, of Shartlesville, and these sisters survive: Mrs. John Yetter, Lackawanna, N.Y.; Mrs. John Yeagley, of Kutztown; Mrs. Manassa Long, Hamburg; Mrs. Howard Spangler, Strausstown, and Mrs. Jacob Wagner, Hamburg. Klimas, George E.

George E. Klimas, 85, of 1817 Liberty Ave., Kenhorst, fomerly of Shenandoah, died Saturday at Berks Heim, Reading. Born in Shenandoah, Nov. 1, 1914, he was a son of the late Andrew and Margaret Anskaitis Klimas. He was a Marine Corps veteran. He was a mine foreman at Bethlehem Steel Corp., Grace Mine, Morgantown, for 30 years. He was a partner at Klimas Bros. Coal Co., Schuylkill County. Surviving are his wife, the former Mildred Skistimas; son, George C., Rochester, N.Y.; daughter, Dianne J., Kenhorst; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. Joint services were held Saturday for Mr. Klimas and his brother, Albert, who died Wednesday. Cremation Services for Eastern Pennsylvania, Reading, was in charge of arrangements.

Kline, Aaron

The remains of Aaron Kline, of District township, Berks county, were laid to rest on Monday, June 13, in the New Union cemetery at Huff's Church. The deceased was a son of David Kline and wife, Elizabeth (nee Brensinger), and was born in District September 5, 1844, and baptized by Rev. Carl Herman, December 26, 1844. In early life he was confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Huff's Church by Rev. Alfred D. Croll. On December 18, 1864, he was joined in marriage by the same pastor to Marie Johnson, who survives. Of two sons and seven daughters all survive but one, as follows: Aaron, Jr. and Alvin, District; Mrs. Mary Moyer, Seagersville; Mrs. Alice Neitz, Allentown; Mrs. Katie Hartman, Mrs. Moses Romig and Mrs. Fannie Minnich, Reading, and Anna, wife of Matthias Miller, Alburtis, R. 1, Pa., with whom the mother will make her home. Also one sister, Mrs. Obedia Fox, of Mertztown; thirty-seven grandchildren, twenty-nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. By occupation he was an iron ore miner and farmer. He was a life-long and consistent member of Huff's congregation. He passed away on Wednesday, June 8, aged eighty-two years, nine months and three days. J. J. Schoffer and Son, of Topton, were in charge. The following grandsons were the bearers: Elwood, leRoy and Frederick Kline, William and John Moyer and Walter Romig.

Kline, Aaron Daniel

On Sunday afternoon, after the regular service at Huff's church, the remains of Aaron Daniel, infant son of Herbert F. Kline and wife, Elda M. (nee Drey), were interred in the adjoining cemetery. The child was born in Longswamp township, May 18, 1923, and baptized in Huff's church, June 24, same year. He died of scarlet fever on Saturday, April 12, aged 10 months and 24 days. Rev. Wm. F. Burd officiated. J. J. Schofer was the undertaker.

Aaron O. Kline, Fredericksville, Alburtis R. 1, died yesterday morning in his home. He was 74. A native of District Township, Berks County, he was a son of the late Aaron and Maria (Johnson) Kline. He was a retired farmer. He was affiliated with the Lutheran wing of Huffs Church. Surviving are his second wife, the former Ella Reinert; a son, Elwood, Alburtis; daughters, Margaret, wife of Homer Grim, Mertztown; Mary, wife of Ralph Bennicoff, Fogelsville, and Erma, wife of Wayne Kocher, Topton; nine grandchildren; a great-granddaughter, a sister, Mrs. Tamie Minnich, Reading. Kline was preceded in death by his first wife, the former Verdilla Reinert, and a son, Richard. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Huffs Church.

Mrs. Agnes S. Kline, 77, a former resident of Fogelsville, died yesterday at the Topton Lutheran Home, where she had been a guest two years. Her husband, Solon Kline, died in 1951. Born in Longswamp Township, Berks County, she was a daughter of the late William and Mary (Eck) Druckenmiller. While residing at Fogelsville, she worked as a cook at Shankweiler's Restaurant. She was a member of the Lutheran wing of Maxatawny Zion church. Surviving are a daughter, Mamie, wife of Russell Boyer, Fleetwood; a sister, Mrs. Mary Yoder, East Texas; three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at 314 E. Main St., Macungie, with calling hours 7-8:30 p.m. tomorrow.

Alvin Y. Kline, retired farmer of Alburtis, R. 1, near Fredericksville, died yesterday at the age of 77, leaving 105 descendants. Surviving him in addition to his wife are nine children, 48 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Kline was born in District township, Berks County, a son of the late Aaron and Maria Yonson Kline. He belonged to the Lutheran congregation of Huff's Union Church and was a member of the Order of Independent Americans of Landisville Council. He was survived by his wife, Mamie Miller Kline, and the following children: Herbert, Bechtelsville; Florence, wife of Albert Miller, Mertztown R. 1; Leroy, Alburtis R. 1; Frederick, at home; Elizabeth, wife of John Wilt, Macungie R. 1; Helen, wife of John Miller, Mertztown R. 1; Tamie, wife of Frank Gift, Alburtis R. 1; Elsie, wife of Arthur Trumbauer, Alburtis R. 1; and Harold at home. Short funeral services for the family will be held Saturday at 1:15 p.m. at the DeLong and Trexler Funeral Home, Topton. Public services will be held at 2 p.m. at Huff's Church.

Kline, Bertha

Miss Bertha Kline, sister of R. M. Kline, clerk in the Grand Union tea store in Allentown, died on Wednesday in Easton at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sylvanus W. Kline. She was 17 years old. Death was the result of an attack of measles. Three children of the family caught the malady and in the case of this one, inflammation of the brain set in. She was sick only two days. She had been employed in the stocking factory at Easton. The family moved from Topton to Easton five years ago. Three brothers and three sisters survive, Robert of Allentown, and Harry, Lloyd, Vesta, Sallie and Stella, of Easton. The funeral will take place this afternoon to which friends are cordially invited. Services will be conducted at Easton by Rev. J. Q. Upp. The cortege will then proceed to Topton, where interment will be made in the family burial plot beside the grave of the twin sister of the deceased.

C. David Kline, 74, died of natural causes June 22 at 7:13 p.m. in his residence in Muhlenberg Township, following an illness of several years. He was the husband of Grace R. (Martorana) Kline. Born in Reading, he was a son of the late Clarence S. and Helen M. (Snyder) Kline. Kline was employed for 27 years as a sales consultant by Berks Packing Co., Reading, retiring in 1992. He was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, Laureldale. Kline was a life member and past commandant of Russel M. Butterweck Detachment of the Marine Corps League. He was a past president of the Laureldale Recreation Board. Kline was a former cubmaster of the Rosedale United Church of Christ, Laureldale. He was a 1948 graduate of Muhlenberg High School, where he played football. Kline was a Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War. He is also survived by a daughter, JoAnne (Kline) Mulvey, Exeter Township; and a son, David L., Sinking Spring. Other survivors include two sisters, Ruth (Snyder) Reidel, in Florida, and Janet (Kline) Moyer, Reading; and a brother, Vernon, in New Jersey. There are also seven grandchildren. Services will be Monday at noon in Calvary Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery, Laureldale. John P. Feeney Funeral Home Inc. is in charge of arrangements.

Charles H. Kline, 78, of 3838 Highpoint Drive, South Whitehall Township, Lehigh County, formerly of Reading, died Friday afternoon at home. Born in Shenandoah, Sept. 19, 1920, he was a son of the late Lewis E. and Beulah H. Herring Kline. He was a graduate of Susquehanna University, Selinsgrove. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He was employed 30 years in Reading, Philadelphia and Allentown by Graybar Electric, retiring as a manager. He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Allentown; served on the council of Advent Lutheran Church, West Lawn; and was a former president of the Electrical Association of Reading-Berks County. Surviving are his wife, the former Audrey Haggerty; two sons, Gregory E., Schnecksville, and T. Jeffrey, Kempton; a daughter, Lisa A. Mastroianni, Macungie; nine grandchildren. Services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Monday at Redeemer Lutheran Church. Entombment will be in Grandview Mausoleum, Allentown. J.S. Charles K. Kline, an aged resident of Maxatawny township, Kutztown R. 1, died at the residence of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Jeremiah Bennicoff, of Siegfried Dale, near Monterey, on Sunday forenoon at 9.30 of ailments incident to old age, aged 81 years, 1 month and 4 days. He was in failing health for sometime and was bedfast for about two weeks. He was a carpenter by trade but also followed farming for a number of years. His wife preceded him in death 17 years ago. He is survived by the following children: Jonathan Kline, of Wescoesville R. 1; Eli Kline, of Allentown; Mrs. Charles DeLong, of Reading; Mrs. Alfred Eck, of Mertztown R. 1; Mrs. Wilson DeLong, of Allentown; William Kline, of Allentown R. 6; George Kline, of Fogelsville; Solon Kline, of Seipstown; Mrs. Charles Heck, of Kutztown; Mrs. Austin Bigely, of Allentown; Mrs. Edw. Hottenstein, of reading; Mrs. Jeremiah Bennicoff, of Kutztown R. 1. Thirty-four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive. He was the last of a family of 16 children. He was a member of the Lutheran congregation of Siegfrieds church. Rev. Wm. Dry will officiate. Funeral arrangements have not been completed.

Parkesburg, Pa. � Charles S. Kline, husband of Annie Delong Kline of 536 Columbia Ave., Lansdale, died here Friday at Morris Hall. He was 87. Born in Maxatawny, Berks County, he was a son of the late William H. and Mary Grim Kline. Kline, a paper manufacturer, owned the Fibre Specialists Co. in Philadelphia until he retired in 1949. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Lansdale. Surviving besides his wife are two daughters, Arlene, wife of Dr. W. P. Kenworthy of Atglen, Pa., and Miriam, wife of Dr. Charles Posey, York; and a son, Dr. Edgar Kline of Lansdale. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Shelly Funeral Home, E. Main St., Lansdale.

Kline, Clarence Alvin

Clarence Alvin Kline, son of Herbert and Elda, nee Drey, Kline, of Mertztown R. 2, died Saturday in St. Joseph's hospital, Reading, after an illness of pneumonia, aged 1 year, 10 months and 8 days. Besides the parents there survive these brothers and sisters, Lillian, Arlene, Pearl, Lloyd and Irvin. The paternal grandparents and maternal grandfather also survive. The funeral will be held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. from the home of the parents, Mertztown R. 2. All services will be held at the house and burial will be made in Huffs Church Union cemetery.

Kline, Daniel W.

Daniel W. Kline died at his home in Reading after an illness extending over a period of eight years. He attained the age of 79 years. Besides his widow, he is survived by two daughters: Minnie, wife of William R. Sander, Allentown, and Annie, wife of Arthur Malone, Philadelphia. Mr. Kline was for many years a contracting carpenter and erected scores of substantial business houses and private dwellings in and about Kutztown. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran church, this place.

Kline, Earl H.

Funeral services were held for Earl H. Kline, 87, widower of Isabelle (Goodman) Kline, of Green Hill Road in Douglass (Montg.), who died May 7 in ManorCare Health Services in Pottstown. He was born in Mainland and was a graduate of Schwenksville High School in 1933. For 20 years, Kline was a knitter for Green Lane Hosiery, retiring in 1978. Kline was also a self-employed farmer and sold goods door-to-door. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Sassamansville and was a member of the Sassamansville Fire Co. Kline is survived by two sons, Jay E. Kline of Birdsboro and Harvey P. Kline of Bechtelsville; one daughter, Jean A. Shaner of York; one stepson, Richard Walter Chandler of Inverness, Fla; one stepdaughter, Deborah (Chandler) Thomas of Westport, Conn. Also, two sisters, Estella Goodman of the Frederick Mennonite Home and Edna Beltz of Schwenksville; four grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and 12 step-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by two brothers and a sister. Contributions may be made to the St. Paul's Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 370, Sassamansville, PA 19472. Burial was in St. Paul's Lutheran Church Cemetery in New Hanover. The Linwood W. Ott Funeral Home, Boyertown, handled the arrangements.

Mrs. Ellen (Flicker) Kline of Mertztown R. 1 died Monday in Allentown Hospital. She was 74. She was the widow of Charles A. Kline. Born in Longswamp Township, Berks County, she was a daughter of the late Leonard and Sarah (Rhoads) Flicker. Mrs. Kline was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Bowers. Surviving are two sons, Morris and Jonas, both of Mertztown R. 1; three daughters, Viola, wife of LeRoy Edinger, and Mae, wife of Wayne Moll, all of Topton, and Dorothy, wife of Norman Kunkel, Kutztown; a sister, Mrs. Mamie Heintrich, and a brother Horace, both of Stony Creek Mill; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Kline, Eva L.

Services were held for Eva L. Kline, 90, formerly of Summit Avenue, Cumru Township, who died February 20 in Berkshire Center, Exeter Township, where she had been a resident since 2001. Her husband, Bertram A. Kline, died in 1968. Born in Reading, Kline was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Mount Penn. She was a past matron with the Order of the Eastern Star Alethea Chapter 461. Kline is survived by a daughter, Nancy E. (Kline) DeAcosta, Exeter Township. Other survivors include two sisters; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Kline was predeceased by a son, Barry H. Kline. The Lutz Funeral Home Inc., Mount Penn, handled the arrangements. Burial was in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Reiffton.

Her husband, Amos Kline, died 'in 1956. Surviving are two other daughters, Mae, widow of Gurney Gruber, Centerport, and Frances, Leesport R.D. l: two sons, George, here, and Edwin Tampa, Fla.; a granddaughter; five brothers, Elmer, Norman and John, all of Sinking Spring R.D. 5; Lammas, Robesonia, and William, Mohrsville, and three sisters, Mabel, wife of Irvin Oxenreider, Robesonia R.D. 1; Ada wife of Charles Lamm, Robesonia, and Annie, widow of William, Webber, Topton. Kline, Fay L.

Fay L. Kline, 76, formerly of Reading and Wildwood, Fla., died July 6 at 11:20 a.m. in her residence in Berrien Springs, Mich. Her husband, Richard J. Kline, died July 15, 2001. Born in Reading, she was a daughter of the late Irwin and Mary (Welfly) Shearer. Kline was employed as a teacher's aide until her retirement. She was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Leesburg, Fla. Surviving are two sons, Randall J., Williamsburg, Va., and Scott A., Spring, Texas; and a daughter, Cathy (Kline) Duryee, Berrien Springs. Other survivors include two brothers, Wayne and Irwin Shearer, and a sister, Jane (Shearer) Miller, all of Reading. There are also five grandchildren. The Hoven Funeral Home, Buchanan, Mich., is in charge of arrangements.

Kline, George

George, son of the late Peter Kline, of Stony Run, died on Thursday morning of lockjaw, accompanied by convulsions, aged 17 years. Mr. Kline was a member of Kempton Council, No. 544, O. of I.A., and last Saturday attended the picnic held by that order. On Saturday evening he complained of feeling badly and the following morning, his jaws were stiff. A physician was called and he pronounced a case of lockjaw, although there was no wound upon his body. Later a second doctor was called, and he also stated that the symptoms were those of tetanus. The young man could not recall any injury to his person and the doctors were puzzled and said the case was a very unusual one. Funeral on Tuesday at 1 p.m., from the residence of his mother, in Albany, with whom he resided. Services and interment at Frieden's Church, Wessnersville.

Kline, George C.

George C. Kline, 64, of Bernville, died Thursday morning at 10:20 in Reading Hospital, where he had been a patient one day. Born in Berks County, he was the son of the late Amos and Eva (Lutz) Kline. Kline had been employed as a custodian by Rockwell International, Wyomissing before retiring. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Surviving are three sisters: Mae I., widow of Gurney I. Gruber, Bernville; and Betty J., widow of Paul V. Werner, and Francis F. Kline, both of Sinking Spring. Also a brother, Edwin C., Round Rock, Texas, and a niece. The Kirkhoff Funeral home, Bernville, is in charge of arrangements.

Kline, Jennie Elizabeth

Jennie Elizabeth, seven-months-old daughter of Herbert F. and Elda, nee Drey, Kline, died Monday night at the home of the parents, Mertztown R. 2, from whooping cough. Besides the parents, she is survived by theses brothers and sisters: Lillian, Arlene, Lloyd and Irvin, all at home, the paternal grandparents and maternal grandfather. Private funeral services will be held at the home of the parents on Saturday at 1 p.m. Interment will be made in Huff's church cemetery. Rev. William F. Bond, of Shamrock, will officiate.

Private services were held for Joan A. Kline, 51, of Grace Street, who died in the Reading Hospital, where she had been a patient. Born in Morgantown, she was a daughter of Helen M. (James) Muckel, Mohnton, and the late Luther C. Muckel. She is survived by a daughter, Jennifer L. Olafsen, with whom she resided, and a son, Dennis C. Olafsen, Kenhorst. Other survivors include a brother, three sisters and a grandson. Burial was in Allegheny Union Cemetery, Alleghenyville. The Joseph D. John P. Kline, 46, of 306 W. Somerset St., Fleetwood, died last night in Reading Hospital. He was employed by Allentown Portland Cement Co., Evansville, before retirement. Born in Kutztown, he was a son of William H. and Carrie E. (Dey) Kline of Kutztown. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Kutztown. He was also a member of the Lyons Fire Co., the Kutztown Fire Company. A navy veteran of world war II, he belonged to American Legion Post 625 of Fleetwood. Surviving with his parents are his wife, Catherine L. (Mayer) Kline; seven brothers, Francis R., Robert K. and Dallas, all of Kutztown; George W., of Mertztown R. 1; Dennis c., of Kutztown R. 2; William P., serving with the Army in Germany; and Roy A., of Kutztown R. 3; seven sisters, Nancy L., Mrs. Lovie E. Stump, Mrs. Mae E. Haas and Mrs. Marion P. Pieller, all of Kutztown; Mrs. Anna V. Spinka, of Temple; Mrs. Elsie B. Luckenbill, serving with the Army in Italy; and Catherine J. Peiller of Robesonia. John W. Kline died on Friday of complications at his home in Kutztown, aged 72 years. He was a native of Richmond township, son of the late Benneville and Annie (Weidenhammer) Kline, was employed as crane operator many years for the Kutztown Foundry and Machine company, was a member of the Evangelical church and Lodge 1325, Loyal Order of Moose. Surviving are his widow, Alice (Stitzel) Kline; these children; Evelyn, wife of Ruel Fritch, Allentown; Anna L., wife of John Matz, Reading; and Ella L., wife of Harry Kemp, at home; three grandchildren; one brother, Daniel Kline, Kutztown; two sisters, Lillie, wife of John Grim, Kutztown R.D.1; and Ella, wife of William Miller, Reading. Funeral Sunday at 2.30.

Jonas Kline, father of William Kline, of this city, passed away yesterday at his home, in Maxatawny township, near Bowers, aged 78 years. He was a son of the late William and Elizabeth (nee Miller) Kline and was born in District township. His affiliations included membership in the New Jerusalem Lutheran church and Camp 480, P.O.S. of A., of Pleasantville. His wife Catherine (nee Youse) preceded him in death by just four months. Besides his son William, of Allentown, the following children survive: Levi, Shamrock; Charles, Bowers; James, Sinking Spring; Harvey, Lyons; Edwin, West Catasauqua; Caroline, wife of William Hartman, with whom he resided, and Ellen, wife of William Rader, Fleetwood; twenty-four grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Hannah Meck. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 1.30 o'clock.

Kline, Katie L.

In the Maxatawny house where she was born, Katie L. Kline, retired schoolteacher and active member of the Lutheran faith at Maxatawny Zion church, died unexpectedly Sunday morning. She was 74. She was for many years a member of the church choir, member of the Missionary society, teacher in the Sunday school and treasurer of the school's Home Dept. She was a member of the ladies auxiliaries of Muhlenberg college and Mt. Airy seminary. Graduate of Kutztown State Teachers college, Miss Kline taught in the Maxatawny Twsp. schools and in Trexlertown. She retired from teaching about 30 years ago. She was a daughter of the late William F. and Mary Ann (Grim) Kline. Surviving are a sister, Annie Kline, and two brothers, Rev. William H. Kline, Topton, and Charles Kline, Lansdale.

Kline, Laura Edith (nee Diener)

Mrs. Laura Edith (Diener) Kline, 59, wife of Rev. William H. Kline and very active in the Lutheran church and civic affairs of Topton, died yesterday at the home of their daughter and son-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. John L. Ford, Green Bay, Wisconsin. Death was attributed to a heart ailment. Three weeks ago, Rev. and Mrs. Kline, accompanied by his two sisters, Anna Kline and Katie Kline, the latter two of Maxatawny, left Topton for a vacation trip to Wisconsin. While there, Mrs. Kline took sick on July 28. Thinking that she had recovered from her illness, Rev. Kline and his two sisters returned east last Friday to enable the pastor to fulfill his church engagements. Mrs. Kline's sickness took a turn for the worse and she died yesterday at 12:45 p.m., central time. Pastor Kline, a resident of Center Ave., Topton, is the Lutheran minister of Trinity church, Topton, and Mertz church, Dryville. Born in Brookville, Pa., she was the daughter of Emma F. (Dinger) and the late David F. Diener. Her mother is 80 years of age. Mrs. Kline was educated in the schools of Brookville and was active in Trinity Evangelical Lutheran church where she was superintendent of the Home department of the Sunday school for the past 26 years; taught different Sunday school classes, including the Adult Bible class; member of the choir; and a past present of the Missionary society of the parish. She was also a member of the Muhlenberg college auxiliary; Mt. Airy seminary auxiliary; member of the Reading Women's club; Berks county chapter of the D.A.R.; a second recipient of the third certificate of progress issued by the parish and church board of the United Lutheran church; active member of the Ray A. Master post No. 217, American Legion auxiliary, Topton; and chaplain of the Topton chapter of War Mothers. Surviving are her husband; mother; one son, Dr. David Kline, Greenville, Pa.; one daughter Mary, at whose home she died in Green Bay, Wis.; four granddaughters; two grandsons; two sisters, Mrs. Walter Hopkins, Brookville, and Mrs. Floyd Mayes, Grove City, Pa.; and two brothers, George, Brookville; and Dr. Harry C., Washington, D.C. Services will be conducted Saturday in Trinity Evangelical Lutheran church, Topton, at 2 p.m. Interment in the Maxatawny cemetery. Calling hours at the Schofer funeral home, Topton, on Friday evening from 7 to 9 o'clock. The body will lie in state in Trinity church on Saturday from 12:30 until the time of the funeral.

LeRoy A. Kline, 76, of W. Railroad Street, Lyons, died Wednesday in Pottstown Memorial Medical Center. He was the husband of Sallie S. (Hilbert) Kline. Kline was a fireman for Eastern Foundry, Boyertown, for 29 years before retiring in 1969. Born in District Township, he was a son of the late Alvin Y. and Mamie (Miller) Kline. He was a member of the Lutheran congregation of Huffs Union Church, Alburtis R. 1. Surviving with his widow are four sons, Warren L., of Boyertown, Homer D., of New Berlinville, Gunnery Sgt. Mrs. Louisa Kline, of Stony Run, Berks county, died on Friday morning at her late home, aged 68 years, 9 months and 6 days. Her husband preceded her in death many years ago. A graveside service was held for M. Hester Kline, 82, of Richlandtown, previously of Perkasie, who died on Mar. 18, 2004 in Grand View Hospital, Sellersville. She was the wife of the late Stanley H. Kline. Born in Quakertown she was the daughter of the late J.Evan and Lillie (Sorver) Penrose. She was a seamtress for the former R.M.Taylor Co., Quakertown for over 10 years before retiring. Prior to that she worked for the former Royal Pants Factory, Perkasie for 20 years. Margaret, the two years and two months old daughter of Charles and Ella, nee Flicker, Kline, of near Mertztown, died at her home Tuesday morning from pneumonia. The child has been ill since last Wednesday. Besides the parents and grandparents, there remain three sisters and two brothers: Viola, Dorothy, Leola and Horace and Jonas Kline, all at home. The funeral services will be held at the home of the parents on Sunday morning at 9 o'clock, with continued services in the New Jerusalem church, followed by interment in the cemetery adjoining. Rev. Maria, nee Johnston, widow of Aaron Kline, aged 85 years, 8 months and 10 days, passed away Friday morning at the residence of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Mathias Miller, near Fredericksville, Berks county. She had been sick for only one week. Her husband preceded her in death five years. He was a daughter of the late David and wife, Catherine, nee Eck, Johnston. There survive five daughters, Mrs. Mathias Miller, Fredericksville; Mrs. Mary Moyer, Orefield R.D.; Mrs. Kate Hartman, Mrs. Moses Romig and Mrs. Harry Minnich, Reading; two sons, Aaron and Alvin, Fredericksville; thirty-five grandchildren, fifty-six great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. The funeral will be held from her late residence on Tuesday, August 23, at 1.30 p.m., D.S.T. Further services in Huff's Church. Interment in the adjoining cemetery. Rev. William F. Bond will officiate.

Kline, Mary E. (nee Reppert)

Mary E. (nee Reppert) Kline, wife of Albert Kline and a charter member of St. Andrew's Reformed church, entered into her final rest at her late home, 733 South Eighth street yesterday morning at 10 o'clock. Death was due to complications from which she has been ailing for the past nine years. She was in her sixty-fifth year. She was born in Longswamp township, Berks county, the daughter of the late Sam and Emma, nee Moyer, Reppert and has been a resident of Allentown for the greater part of her life. Mrs. Kline was active in all affairs of St. Andrew's Reformed church from the time of its founding, under the pastorship of Rev. R. M. Kern, until about nine years ago when failing health caused her to give up her duties. She was a member of the Missionary society, the Ladies Aid society, and the Sunday school. The following children survive to mourn her loss: Mrs. Warren D. Heinly, Mrs. Albert Beers and Mrs. G. Dewey Fenstermacher, of Allentown; Charles H. Kline, White Haven; Marcus F. Kline, Coatesville, and Lillian Kline, Atlantic City. Three children preceded her in death. Eleven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren also survive. The following brothers and sisters survive: William Reppert and Alvin Reppert, Allentown; Mrs. Ella Eck and George Reppert, Reading, and Mrs. Caroline Grafe, Chicago. Funeral services will be held at her late home, 733 South Eighth street on Friday afternoon at 2. 30 o'clock. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in Fairview cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday evening from 7 to 9 o'clock.

Morris C. Kline, 66, of Mertztown R. 1, died Wednesday morning after being stricken in his home. Kline had been an employee of the Bethlehem Steel Corp. a number of years. He was the husband of the former Mabel R. Reichert. Born in Lyons Station, Berks County, he was a son of the late Charles A. and Ellen (Flicker) Kline. Besides his widow, he is survived by a daughter Corrine, wife of Calvin D. Morris H. Kline, one of the leading citizens of Earl Township, where he was a large property owner, died suddenly and unexpectedly at his home in Earlville at 4:00 a.m. yesterday, following a heart attack. He was aged 68 years, 4 months and 3 days. Mr. Kline was in apparently good health on Wednesday and up to the time of his retirement for the night. He transacted business in this borough Wednesday and returned to his home, at no time complaining of ill health.

After the evening meal he visited the store at Earlville and chatted there with friends until 8:00 o'clock, when he returned to his home and retired. Early yesterday morning he was seized with severe pains about the chest and heart. He summoned his wife and the two came down stairs. Mrs. Kline proceeded to give first aid treatment to her husband. After this was finished he returned to the second floor, she following shortly afterwards.

On reaching the room, Mrs. Kline found the lifeless body of her husband lying across the bed, he apparently having suffered another attack on reaching the room and fell dead on the bed. Dr. C. D. Dotterer was summoned.

Mr. Kline was born in Earl Township July 19, 1855, and was a son of the late Cyrus H. and Phoebe (Hoffman) Kline. He obtained a limited education in the township schools of Amity and Earl Townships. Deceased had learned the wheelwright trade from his father when quite young and this he followed until his father died. In 1875 he entered in business for himself at the old Spring Forge, in Earl Township, where he lived up to the time of his death. He made many new wagons in his time, building the body of the wagon right out of the logs. His wagons gave good service, and many of them are still in use in the lower end of the county. He had rented the Spring Forge from Matthias Mengel up to 1883, after which time he purchased it. In 1884 he suffered a heavy loss by fire, but undismayed, he started out again, and by thrift and honesty built up a larger and more extensive business.

He erected a new building, equipped with a planer and all kinds of modern machinery. He owned and operated Kline's saw mill at Earlville, and sawed more lumber than anyone else in that section. On his property there were 54 acres, mostly of wood and waste land. From about 1810 this was the Schenkel Bertolet property, and after his day became the property of the Mengels. Spring Forge was operated by Schenkel Bertolet first, then by Jacob Snell and Marks Darrah. The forge was operated up to 1865, and stood where Mr. Kline had his wheelwright shop.

The charcoal house was built in 1810 by the Bertolets and there Mr. Kline had his chicken house. The stone dwelling was built before 1810. The old sawmill, built in 1835 by Levi Smith, is still standing but no longer operated. The old house near the sawmill was built in 1835, and was used for making the old horse-powers and the crude threshing devices of early days. Mr. Kline owned different tracts of hill land, totaling about 130 acres. He bought the old Silas Davidheiser tract of six acres May 1, 1909, and greatly improved it. He also owned considerable real estate in this borough and Reading, and was the owner of the bungalow site known as Manatawny Park, near Earlville.

Mr. Kline was one of the most substantial men of the township and made extensive investments in firth mortgages and bank stock. In politics he was a Democrat, and for six years served as auditor of Earl Township. He was a delegate to several county conventions. Deceased was a member of the Knights of the Golden Eagle, of Athol, and the Lutheran congregation at St. Paul's Union Church, Amityville. He was much interested in the rebuilding of the church at that place and was a member of the Building Committee. He served as deacon and elder of that church for many years.

On October 28, 1878, Mr. Kline married Mary A. Moyer, daughter of Abraham Moyer, of Hereford. He is survived by his widow, and the following children: Katie, wife of Samuel Drumheller, Earlville; Emma, wife of Henry Stapleton, Mount Penn' Howard of Earlville; Nora, wife of William L. Swavely, Reading and a brother Jacob, of Earlville.

Funeral on Tuesday, November 27, from his home at 10:00 a.m. Further services in St. Paul's union Church, Amityville. The Rev. H. B. Ritter will officiate. Interment in the adjoining cemetery.

Kline, Nathan R.

Nathan R. Kline, aged 74 years, died of apoplexy at his home in Richmond, one mile east of Kutztown. He suffered with rheumatism for a year previous to the time he was stricken with apoplexy. Deceased was bedfast five days. He was a son of the late Benjamin Kline and was a farmer by occupation, residing on the old homestead all his life. His wife (nee Sallie) Merkel died three years ago. These children remain: Mrs. Ellen Lesher, Reading; Nathan and Martha, at home; Milton, of Maxatawny; Reuben, of Reading; Esther, wife of Milton Klopp, of Kutztown; Mrs. Hannah Miller, of Lobachsville; Mrs. Lizzie Unger, of Reading, and Mrs. Katie Bortz, of South Allentown. Funeral Monday, Jan. 21, at 1 o'clock, at the house. Services in Grace U. E. Church, Kutztown. Rev. I. J. Reitz, of Reading, will officiate. Interment in Fairview cemetery.

Kline, Ralph

West Wyomissing, Jan 16 (Special), - Injuries received in a fall from a bicycle while on his way to school last Friday, caused the death of Ralph Kline, 2047 Reading avenue, this place, at 3 o'clock Sunday morning in the Reading Hospital. He was aged 13 years, 1 month and 17 days. The lad was a son of Amos and Eva (Lutz) Kline. Last Friday Ralph invited another youngster to ride with him to school. While Ralph sat on the seat, the other boy rested on the frame of the vehicle and pedaled. But the pedalist's foot slipped and threw the bicycle off balance. Both boys tumbled to the macadam road. Laughingly they both go to their feet, and Ralph told the other to continue to school while he returned home with the bicycle, which was damaged in the fall.

The only noticeable injury to Ralph was a small scratch on the side of his head. On arriving home he told his mother he "didn't feel so good." He went to bed and remained there in a comatose condition until Saturday night, when he was taken to the hospital in the ambulance.

At the hospital, Ralph was found to be rational in mind. Dr. C.G. Spangler, attending physician, said, with the exception that he believed the time to be "just before breakfast." Dr. Spangler said he seemed to respond well to treatment and seemed in good condition until yesterday morning, when he died as he lay asleep. Physicians were given no warning. Death was due to a fractured skull and contusions of the brain.

Besides his parents the boy is survived by two brothers and two sisters, George and Edwin, and May and Betty Kline, all at home; also the paternal grandmother, Mrs. Rachel Kline, Shillington, and the maternal grandmother, Mrs. Louise Lutz, Bernville. Funeral Director C.N. Lamm, Wernersville, has charge.

Kline, Robert M.

Among the local survivors of Robert Marvin Kline, who died of natural causes June 21 in his Union Township residence, is a sister, Peggy Lou (Kline) Bailey, Blandon.

Kline, Robert Marvin

Services were held for Robert Marvin Kline, 57, of Woodglen Road, Birdsboro, husband of Sheila Jean (Roth) Kline, who died June 21 at his residence. Born in Reading, he worked for Trooper Investigation Services in Gilbertsville. He previously worked as a Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshall from 1968 to 1997 in Limerick. He served in the Army in Vietnam from 1965 to 1967. A member of St. James Lutheran Church of Geigertown where he was treasurer of church council, was a council member and taught adult Sunday school for more than 15 years. Kline was past president of the Daniel Boone Pool League for more than 20 years. He was a member of F.O.P. Lodge 76, Montgomery County and was an OSHA Council member. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Robert M. Kline II of Birdsboro; one daughter, Julie L. Kline of Birdsboro. Also four brothers, C. Ronald and Jack L. Kline, both of Reading, Larry G. Kline of Malvern, and Bruce D. Kline of West Reading; and three sisters, Joan L. Linaberry of Doylestown, Peggy Lou Bailey of Blandon, and Betty C. DiLullo of Birdsboro. Donations may be made to St. James Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 5, Geigertown, PA 19523. Burial was in St. James Cemetery, Geigertown. Kline, Roy I.

Services were held in the Leibensperger Funeral Home, Hamburg, for Roy I. Kline Sr., 70, who died April 16 in his Old Route 22, Upper Tulpehocken Township residence. Burial was in St. John's (Gernant's) Cemetery, Ontelaunee Township. She was predeceased by his wife, Lucille J. (Schaeffer) Kline, who died Dec. 15, 1979. Born in Reading, he was a son of the late Daniel K. and Mary B. (Hinkle) Kline. Last working in November, he was employed by Kauffman Chicken Ranch, Rehrersburg. He was previously employed by the Fleetwood Tannery for 15 years, and before that, he was employed as a grind caster by Prestolite Battery, Temple for 34 years until 1983. He was a member of St. John's (Gernant's) Lutheran Church, Ontelaunee Township. Surviving are two sons, Robert R. Kline, Richmond Township, and Roy I. Kline Jr., Spring Township; and four daughters: Gloria M. (Kline) Rick, Douglass Township; Jan (Berg) Newmoyer, Temple; Renee M. (Kline) Schaner, Centerport; and Michele E. (Kline) Stoltzfus, Fairview Township, York County. There are also 15 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Other survivors include two brothers, William Kline, Richmond Township, and George D. Kline, Centerport.

Kline, Sallie D. (nee Fies)

Sallie D., wife of Aaron Kline, died of a complication of diseases yesterday at her home in Reading, aged 65 years. She was a member of Oley Reformed church. There remain, besides her husband, two daughters, Carrie, wife of John Kerchoff, and Bertha, wife of William Boyer, Reading; a brother, John Fies, Reading; two sisters, Hattie, widow of Walter Leinbach, Philadelphia; Katie, wife of James Manmiller, Allentown; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Kline, Sallie L. (nee Gordon)

Mrs. Sallie L. (Gordon) Kline, widow of Robert M. Kline, died yesterday at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Klein, Allentown R. 3. She was 76. She was born in Longsdale, Longswamp Township, Berks County, a daughter of the late Eugene S. and Annie C. (Warmkessel) Gordon. She resided most of her life in Allentown. Her last Allentown residence was at 238 N. 11th St. For the past year, she lived with her daughter and son-in-law at Allentown R. 3. She was stricken ill while visiting another daughter, Mrs. Paul Haas, in Bethlehem. Her husband, who died in 1950, had been an employe of H. Leh and Co. for 38 years. During that time he was a buyer of yard goods and was a floorwalker the last 10 years of his employment. Mrs. Kline was a member of St. Michael's Lutheran Church, the Ladies Auxiliary and the Missionary Society of the church. She was active in the Ladies Aid group and was its president for a number of years until it was discontinued. Surviving are a son, Clarence, New Jersey; and two daughters, Lillian, wife of Clayton Klein, Allentown R. 3, and Myrtle, wife of Paul Haas, Bethlehem; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Herbert Gordon, Topton, and a sister, Mrs. Katie Wieand, Allentown.

Kline, Sarah Ann

Sarah Ann Kline, 81, wife of Samuel Kline, died Friday at her home near Steinsville. A native of Greenwich township, Berks county, she was a daughter of the late Samuel and Sarah (Sarig) Gehret, and a member of the Lutheran wing at Kunkel's church. Besides her husband, she is survived by three sons, Robert, Kutztown R. 2, and Solon and Carroll, both at home, 15 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. from the Brumbach funeral home, 169 W. Main St., Kutztown. Rev. Ira W. Klick and Rev. A. L. Brumbach will officiate. Interment in Dunkel's church cemetery.

Kline, Simon

Simon Kline died at his home in Richmond township, Berks county, at the age of 74 years, 9 months and � days. He was the son of Benjamin R. Kline and wife, Jessey (nee -oyer) and was born in Richmond township. Two brothers, Amos, of Fleetwood, and James, of Kutztown, and two sisters, Maria, at home, and Mrs. Matilda Lesher, Kutztown, survive. One brother, Cyrus, preceded him in death several months. The funeral will be held Monday.

Solon E. Kline, 60, of Kempton RD, died in Allentown Hospital Sunday after a long illness. A native of Albany Township, he was a son of Samuel and Sarah (Gehret) Kline and was a member of Dunkel's Reformed Church. He was employed by the Hamburg Plow Works. Surviving are two brothers, Robert, Kutztown R. 2, Carroll, Kempton RD, and several nieces and nephews.

Warren R. Kline, 81, of 38 W. Main St., Fleetwood, died Sunday in the Community General Hospital, Reading. He was a son of the late Albert and Mellie (Ritter) Kline of Fleetwood. He owned and operated a printing shop in Fleetwood for 30 years. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Walter R. Christ Funeral Home, Fleetwood. Calling hours will be 7-8:30 p.m. Friday.

Kline, Will J.

Will J. Kline, 75, of Upper Black Eddy, died April 25, 2003 at Grand View Hospital, Sellersville. He was the husband of Rose M. (Walker) Kline. They were married for 27 years. Born in Lewistown, he was the son of the late Homer and Ethel Deamer Kline. Mr. Kline worked as a truck driver for various companies, retiring in 1988. He was a member of the Sellersville Loyal Order of the Moose. He served with the Army Air Corps during WWII. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Lisa Hugo of Sumter, S.C.; one son, John Kline of Mesa, Ariz; one sister, Pauline Kline of Allentown; one brother, David Kline of Lewistown; one step-son, Steven L. McGonigal of Upper Black Eddy; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Services were held May 2. Interment was in Frieden's Union Cemetery, Sumneytown. Kline, William

William Kline, son of David Kline, of Fredericksville, died of dropsy, aged 72 years, 5 months and 28 days. He was ailing two years and was bedfast ten days. He was born April 20, 1831, in Longswamp, and was baptized January 15, 1832, by Rev. Isaac Roeller. The sponsors were John Pauley and Esther Rohrbach. He was a twin brother of Thomas Kline, of Allentown. In July 1853, he was married to Eliza Miller. The union was blessed with three children, Henry, of Landis Store; Jonas and Hannah, wife of Daniel Meck, both of Longswamp. He is survived by his widow, three children, nineteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren, and the following brothers and sisters: John, of Landis Store; Aaron, of Fredericksville; Thomas, of Allentown; David, of Reading; Mrs. Obediah Fox, of Huff's Church; Mrs. Samuel Gehringer, of Fogelsville; Mrs. Sallie Kutz, of Lancaster, and Mrs. Maria Moyer, of Passmore. He was a member of the Lutheran congregation at Huff's Church. Funeral on Friday, October 23. Brief services and interment at 9 a.m. Further services and interment at Huff's Church. Rev. Klinger, Guy G.

Guy G. Klinger, 85, formerly of Shillington, died Tuesday morning at Reading Hospital and Medical Center, West Reading, where he was a patient since Feb. 5. Born in Gratz, he was a son of the late Harry and Virgie Wolfe Klinger. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was employed for 49 years by Wilson Safety Products, Reading, retiring in 1981 as a research and development engineer. He was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ, Shillington, past master of Williamson Lodge 307, F&AM, Womelsdorf, and a life member and past commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post, Mohnton. His wife, the former Dorothy E. Troutman, died Feb. 6, 1999. Surviving are two sons, William G., Lititz, and Glen D., Fleetwood; two daughters, June A. Klinger, West Lawn, and Eileen R. Klinger, Hatfield; a sister, Eva Marino, Clay Township, Lancaster County; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday from Lamm & Witman Funeral Home Inc., Wernersville. Interment will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Berks County.

Klinger, Martha P.

Services were held for Martha P. (Pennypacker) Klinger, 93, of Aldan, formerly of Elverson and Spring City, who died July 30 in Innova Health and Rehabilitation Center in Mount Laurel, N.J. She was the widow of Wayne A. Klinger. Born in East Nantmeal, she graduated from West Chester State Teachers College. She taught in the former East Coventry School District. She was a former member of Goodwill United Methodist Church in Elverson and a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd in Darby. Surviving are a son, Quinten W. "Quint" Klinger of Voorhees, N.J.; a daughter, Donna M. Maccubbin of Alexandria, Va.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Klisiewicz, Stephen J.

Services were held in the Kopicki-Bradley Funeral Home for Stephen J. Klisiewicz, 54, of Covered Bridge Road, Windsor Township, who was pronounced dead June 2 after his car struck a utility pole on Route 143 in the Virginville area. Medical examiners indicated he suffered a heart attack prior to the crash. Burial was in Berks County Memorial Gardens, Maidencreek Township. He was the husband of Patricia A. (KIine) Klisiewicz. Born in Reading, he was a son of Adeline (Lutostanski) Klisiewicz, Reading, and the late Stephen A. Klisiewicz. For the past 25 years, he was a self-employed heating and air-conditioning contractor. Also surviving are two sons, Stephen J. Klisiewicz Jr., Millmont, and Chad Klisiewicz, Fleetwood, and a daughter, Janel (Klisiewicz) VanSant, Reading. There are also five grandchildren.

Klokis, Anthony W.

Services were held for Anthony W. Klokis, 82, of Frederick, formerly of Boyertown, who died August 4 in the Frederick Mennonite Community. He was the husband of Dorothy (Renninger) Klokis. Born in Kulpmont, Northumberland County, he was a 1939 graduate of Kulpmont High School. Klokis retired in 1985 after five years with Occidental Chemical Corp. in Lower Pottsgrove. Before that, he had worked for 34 years at Firestone Tire and Rubber Co., which occupied the same site prior to Occidental Chemical. He also worked part-time as a licensed barber in Stowe for 35 years. During World War II, Klokis served in the Marine Corps. He was a member of St. Gabriel's Roman Catholic Church in Stowe. Klokis was also a member of the George Amole American Legion Post No. 47 in Pottstown. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Eileen Stauffer of Reading and Kathleen Ballaron of Chester Springs; a son, James Klokis of Pottstown. Also a brother, eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife; his second wife; a son, a daughter and a brother. Burial will be made in the Sinking 'Spring Cemetery. Mr. Klopp died Friday in the Reading Hospital and Medical Center, where he had been a patient since Wednesday. Born in Marion Township, a son of David A. and Bessie M. (Klopp) Klopp, he had been employed by the former Pratt & Cady Division of American Chain & Cable Co. as a machinist before retiring in 1962. He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Sinking Spring, and a life member of the Liberty Fire Co. No. 1 of Sinking Spring. He is survived by his widow Dora B. (Holzman) Klopp; a son, Calvin, Mohnton, R.D. 2, and two granddaughters.

Womelsdorf, Dec. 3 - Archie W. Klopp, 73, died yesterday in his residence at 340 W. High St., this borough. Born in North Heidelberg Township, a son of the late Isaac & Sallie (Butler) Klopp, he was a retired employee of the Textile Machine Works. Klopp was a member of the Womelsdorf and Mount Pleasant fire companies and the relief association of the latter unit. he is survived by his widow, Clara M. (Shealer) Klopp; a son, John I., of West Lawn; four daughters: Millie E. and Anna M., both at home; Maggie M., wife of William Warmkessel, California, and Catharine S., wife of John Keener, Sinking Spring, and a stepbrother, Paul Rhine, Gettysburg. Betty J. Klopp, 70, was pronounced dead of natural causes Monday morning at 315 Lowland Road, Tilden Township. Her husband, Ray W. Klopp, died Nov. 10, 1994. Born in Tilden Township, she was a daughter of the late Joseph W. and Maude A. (Yoder) Hill. Klopp was employed for many years as a machine operator by the Burkey Knitting Mill and Wright's Knitwear, both of Hamburg, until her retirement. Surviving are several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. in St. Michael's Cemetery, Tilden Township. The Brkey & Driscoll Funeral Home, Hamburg, is in charge of arrangements.

Klopp, Calvin David

Calvin David Klopp, 72, formerly of Sinking Spring and Garrison, Iowa, died July 6 in his residence in Corvallis, Ore., where he had resided one year. Born in Sinking Spring, he was a son of the late Andrew and Dora B. (Holzman) Klopp. Klopp had been employed as an apprentice boilermaker by the Reading Company and was a high steel tower and bridge spray painter in Garrison. He also had been employed by the Beryllium Corp., Reading Laundries and as manager of food concessions at the Maple Grove Raceway and Park. He was a 1945 graduate of Sinking Spring High School. Klopp was a motorcyclist and performed show routines in local parades. He was a life member of the American Motorcyclist Association. Surviving are two daughters: Tracy G. (Klopp) Klein, Corvallis, and Shirley A. (Klopp) Palka, West Reading. Other survivors include four grandchildren. He was predecesed by a daughter, Kathy (Klopp) Greenawalt. Services were private in the McHenry Funeral Home, Corvallis. Interment will be in Sinking Spring Cemetery.

Klopp, Calvin T.

Dr. Calvin Trexler Klopp, 89, of Washington, D.C., formerly of Reading, died June 13 in the Washington Home. He was the husband of Ellen S. (Spangler) Klopp. Born in Atlantic City, N.J., he was a son of the late Ray C. and Sallie M. (Trexler) Klopp. Klopp began his career at Boston City Hospital and spent 30 years at the George Washington University Medical Center where he served as Warwick professor of surgery, medical director of the University Clinic and professor emeritus of surgery. He was a surgery fellow and resident at Memorial Hospital, New York City. Klopp was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a graduate of Swarthmore College and was a 1938 cum laude graduate of Harvard University Medical School. Klopp is also survived by two sons, Benjamin, Georgetown, S.C., and Dr. Spangler P., lewes, Del.; and a daughter, Cynthia (Klopp) Butler, Ottawa, Canada. other survivors include eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Services will be private. The De Vol Funeral Home, Washington, is in charge of arrangements.

Charles Henry Klopp, son of Israel & Catherine (Schaeffer) Klopp, was born November 28, 1866, in Lower Heidelberg township, and died October 1, 1932, aged 64y10m3d. He married Sarah Brossman May 7, 1877, who survives with these children: Charles C., Harry W., Raymond H., Ernest L., Robert E., Lawrence F., Stanley H., Sadie (Mrs. Levi) Eckert, Jennie (Mrs. George) Yocum, Annie (Mrs. Robert) Anspach, Katie Dunkelberger, Esther (Mrs. Jacob) Putt, and Emily (Mrs. J. Norman) Taylor. He was a member of St. Daniel's.

Klopp, Curtis C.

Curtis C. Klopp, 79, of West View Terrace, Womelsdorf, formerly of West Penn Avenue, Robesonia, died May 27 at 8:10 a.m. in his residence. Death certificate information was unavailable. Born in Stouchsburg, he was a son of the late Paul W. and Macie (Groff) Klopp. Klopp had been employed for 38 years as a lathe operator by Rockwell International, Wyomissing, retiring in 1987. He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Robesonia. Klopp was a graduate of Marion Township high School. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Klopp was a life member of Pinoeer Hose Company, Robesonia, and Max Schaeffer Post 6558, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Womelsdorf. He was a volunteer in maintenance for the Robesonia Rod & Gun Club. Klopp, who resided with Betty Schoener, is survived by a daughter, Nina M.K. (Klopp) Heffelfinger, Wernersville; and two sons: Carl H., Geigertown, and Dennis L., Lititz, Lancaster County. Other survivors include a brother, Mark M., Marshall, VA. There are also eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be June 5 at 10 a.m. in St. Paul's Church. Klopp, Dan R.

Dan R. Klopp, 68, formerly of Shillington, died Dec. 21 in Highland Park Hospital, Highland Park, Ill. He was the husband of Nancy (Meier) Klopp. He was a son of the late Russell and Alice (Deeds) Klopp. Klopp was president of International Metal Service Inc. of Deerfield, Ill., where he lived for three decades. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Deerfield, where he was an elder, deacon and Sunday School teacher. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. Also surviving are a daughter, Karena Nerl, Palm Harbor, Fla.; two sons: Jonathan, Beach Park, Ill., and Alexander, Naperville, Ill; and a sister, Nancy Beecher, West Islip, NY. There are also six grandchildren. Memorial services will be Thursday at 3 p.m. in First Presbyterian Church. Kelley and Spalding Funeral Home, Highland Park, are in charge of arrangements.

Edna Klopp, 80, of 24 E. Penn Ave., Robesonia, died Wednesday morning at 7:35 in Reading Hospital, where she had been a patient one day. She was the widow of Stanley H. "Betz" Klopp, who died March 7, 1980. Born in Robesonia, she was a daughter of the late G. Frank and Nellie Smith. She had been employed as an office clerk by Wernersville State Hospital for 20 years, retiring in 1975. She was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Robesonia. Surviving are two step-daughters, Nancy, wife of Jay Miller and Marcia Smith, both of Womelsdorf; and a stepson, Stanley Klopp Jr., in South Carolina. Also several nieces and nephews. Ella L. Klopp, 97, formerly of North Main Street, Bernville, died Aug. 21 at 10:45 P.M. in the Phoebe Berks Health Center, Wernersville, where she had resided since December 1999. Her husband, Stanley A. Klopp, died in 1985. Born in Jefferson Township, she was a daughter of the late Harry K. and Annie (Schade) Derr. Klopp was vice president of Stanley A. Klopp Inc., Bernville, a farm equipment dealership, until her retirement. She was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, New Schaefferstown. She was a life member of Conrad Weiser Chapter 449 order of Eastern Star, Womelsdorf. Klopp was a former president of the Bernville Flower Club. Surviving are two sisters, Carrie M. (Derr) Gill and Laura D. (Derr) Markley, both of Wyomissing. Services will be Monday at 11 A.M. in St. Paul's UCC. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery. He was a son of the late Charles and Sarah (Brossman) Klopp, was a pipe fitter for the Reading Company, and was a member of St. Daniel's Lutheran Church and the Pioneer Hose & Fire Company. Surviving are his widow, Pearl R. Born in Isabel, S.D., she was a daughter of the late Harry and Mary (Bickel) Reedy. She was employed for eight years as a secretary by the former United Grocers, now AWI Inc., Robesonia, and was last employed for 10 years as a clerk in the cash office at Boscov's West, Sinking Spring, until her retirement. She was a member of St. John's (Host) Church, Womelsdorf R.D.1. Surviving are a daughter, Barbara A., wife of Robert C. Penny packer, Wernersville; and a grandson. Klopp, died Ot. 25, 1981. Born in Reinholds, she was a daughter of the late Stephen & Minnie (Stober) Sweigart. Klopp was last employed as a cook by the United Zion Retirement Community, Lititz, Lancaster County, until retiring. She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene, Ephrata. Surviving are a son, Richard E., Wernersville; and a daughter, Joyce E. (Klopp) Hahn, Stevens. Mr. Klopp was named cashier of the former First National Bank of Bernville on March 11, 1909, two months after he started working, for the bank. An interim president of, the bank in the'1940's, Mr. Klopp retained his position as cashier, until retiring, in 1960. A 1907 graduate of the former Keystone Normal School, he had been a teacher in Jefferson and -Caernarvon townships and in Mount Gretna, Lebanon County, for a year before joining the bank. Born in Jefferson Township, was a son of the late John H. and Florenda (Sunday) Klopp. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah R. (Stupp) Klopp. Mr. Klopp was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Host; Bernville Lodge 122. Ralph "Butch" Klopp, 65, of 16 Adamstown Road, Reinholds, died of natural causes Friday at 8:31 p.m. at Countryside Auton Center, Denver, Lancaster County, where he had been employed the past 25 years. He was the husband of Patricia A. (McVaugh) Klopp. Born in Vinemont, he was a son of Ralph W. Klopp, West Reading, and the late Cora B. (Sweigart) Klopp Grove. Klopp was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Denver. He is also survived by a stepfather, Cloyd B. Grove, Reinholds; two daughters: Sharon L. (Klopp) Hackman, Stevens; and Jennifer A. Services for Ralph Klopp Jr., 69, of Haak Street will be Monday at 2 p.m. in Klee Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Shillington. Klopp was pronounced dead Oct 5 at 11:25 p.m. in Lehigh Valley Hospital near Allentown, of multiple injuries suffered after he was struck while crossing the street in the 1600 block of Perkiomen Avenue. The Lehigh Valley coroner's office ruled Klopp's death accidental. Born in Hudson County, NJ., he was a son of the late Ralph Sr. and Edith (Kline) Klopp. Klopp had been employed for many years by various mushroom plants before retiring. There are no known survivors. Burial will be in Mohnsville Cemetery, Mohnton.

She was a daughter of the late Richard & Elizabeth (Huntzinger) Brossman and was a member of St. Daniel's Lutherna Church, Robesonia. Her husband died in 1932. Klopp, Stanley H. "Betz"

Former Major League Pitcher: Stanley H. "Betz" Klopp, 69, of 24 E. Penn Ave., Robesonia, who once pitched for the Boston Braves, died Friday evening at the Hershey Medical Center. Born in Heidelberg Township, he was a son of the late Charles and Sarah (Brossman) Klopp. He had been employed in the Parish Division of Dana Corp., retiring in 1971. Klopp was a noted pitcher in the Lebanon Valley Baseball league during the 1930s and played with the Womelsdorf "Big Five" basketball team during the same period. Later he played semi-professional baseball in Iowa and signed with the Braves then located in Boston. He won one game and lost four as a relief pitcher for the Braves in 1944, accumulating an earned run average of 4.27. Klopp was a player-coach for Robesonia in the Lebanon Valley Baseball League in 1956. He was a member of the Reading and Berks Basketball Old-Timers which is establishing a memorial fund in his name. He was also a member of the Baseball Old-Timers Association of Reading. Klopp was a member of the Pioneer Hose Company of Robesonia. Surviving are his wife, Edna (Smith) Klopp; one son, Stanley Jr., Winston-Salem, N.C.; two daughters, Nancy, wife of J.F. Miller, Womelsdorf; and Marsha Smith Reading: five sisters, Jennie, widow of George Yocum, Reading; Annie, widow of Robert Anspach, Shillington; Katie, widow of Charles Dunkleberger, Reading; Esther, widow of Jacob Putt, Robesonia; and Emily, wife of J. Norman Taylor, Reading; and eight grandchildren. Services will be held Tuesday at 2 P.M. in the Hetrick Funeral Home, Womelsdorf, with the Rev. George Miller officiating. Klotz, Edwin

Edwin Klotz, formerly of Hereford, Berks county, where he operated the well-known Wiegner Mills for 25 years, died suddenly of paralysis, at East Greenville. He was the oldest member of the Klotz family, who annually celebrated their reunion at Neffs, Lehigh county.

Mrs. Lucy Ann Klotz, widow of Samuel Klotz, died Sunday night at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Henry, near Topton. Death was the result of a complication of diseases. She was 80 years of age. Born in Longswamp township, she was the daughter of John and Anna Maria, nee Glassmeyer, Fritch. She was a member of the Lutheran congregation of Longswamp church. There survive three daughters, Mrs. Frank Henry and Mrs. Walter DeLong, of near Topton; Mrs. Mary Derr, Fogelsville; one son, William, at home; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 1.30 o'clock from the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Walter DeLong, near Topton, with Rev. William S. Bond, Shamrock, officiating. Continued services will be held at the Longswamp church with interment in the adjoining cemetery. Viewing will be on Friday evening from 7 to 9.

Klotz, Samuel

Samuel Klotz, a farmer of near Topton, after a lingering illness from general debility, passed away on Wednesday, September 12, aged 73 years, 5 months and 17 days. The deceased was a son of Solomon and Hettie Ann (Dietrich) Klotz, and was born in Greenwich township, Berks county, on March 25, 1855. He was baptized June 10, 1855, by Rev. Carl Herman. The sponsors were Samuel Dresher and Lydia Romig. In early youth he was confirmed in Longswamp church by Rev. D. K. Humbert. By the same pastor he was joined in marriage to Lucy Ann Fritsch in 1877. Funeral services were held on Tuesday with interment at Longswamp church, where in his younger years he had been a member of the church council. He is survived by his wife and the following children: Mary, wife of Wilson Derr, Fogelsville; Emma, wife of Frank Henry, and Annie, wife of Walter DeLong, both of Topton; Jennie, wife of Daniel George, Kutztown R. 1, and William, at home; also eleven grandchildren.

Edward H Knabb, 89, of Exeter Township near Jacksonwald, died last night. A son of the late Mahlon and Sarah (Hartman) Knabb, he was a member of Camp 221, POS of A, Limekin, and the Macabees. Knabb also was a member of Spies United Church of Christ, Alsace Twp.

He is survived by a daughter Emma M., wife of Raymond S Snyder, at home; a brother Warren, Redlands, CA; two sisters Lucetta, widow of Adam Snyder, St. Lawrence; and Clara H Knabb, Reading; a grandson; and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. in the Lutz Funeral Home. Burial will be made in Spies Cemetery.

Knabb, Elizabeth M.

Funeral services were held for Elizabeth M. Knabb, 84, of North Franklin Street, West Chester, formerly of Oley, who died January 24 in Chester County Memorial Hospital, West Chester. Her husband, Alfred S. Knabb, died in 2001. Born in Reading, she was employed as an aide at Oley Valley Elementary School, retiring in 1973. She had previously worked as a secretary for George Flatt, president of Flatt Brush Co., Reading. She was a member of Frieden's United Church of Christ, Oley. Knabb was a graduate of Reading High School. She is survived by two daughters, Ann E. (Knabb) Snyder, Lake Bluff, Ill., and Mary Jane (Knabb) Pudhorodsky, Charlottesville, Va.; and three sons: John A., Pittsburgh; Donald M., West Chester; and Robert M., Avondale, Chester County. There are also 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Burial was in Frieden's Cemetery, Oley Township. The Christ & Catagnus Funeral Home Inc., Oley, was in charge of the arrangements.

Knabb, Sarah

Death of a well-known lady of Oley. Mrs. Sarah Knabb, widow of Jacob Knabb, of Oley Township, died on Wednesday evening at the residence of her son-in-law Daniel Kaufman, near Friedensburg. Mrs. Knabb had lived to the advanced age of nearly seventy years, and was well known through out Oley and adjoining townships. She was highly esteemed for her many excellent qualities. She was of an exceedingly charitable disposition, and kind and liberal to the deserving poor. Her husband was thrown from a horse about thirty-six years ago in descending a steep hill while riding to Reading, and had his scull fractured, from the effects of which he died. She was a sister of Mrs. Dr. D. L. Beaver, of this city. Four daughters who survive are married to Daniel Deturck and Daniel Kaufman of Oley, Dr. Edward Hottenstein of Kutztown, and Nathan S. Kemp of Maxatawny. She was a lady of large wealth, and leaves a considerable fortune.

Knappenberger, Ellen (nee Hamsher)

Mrs. Ellen Knappenberger, a former resident of Mertztown R. 1, died yesterday at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Donald E. Gery, 349 Douglass St., Reading. She was 86. Born in Longswamp Township, Berks County, she was a daughter of the late Alfred and Catherine (Warmkessel) Hamsher. She was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Mertztown, and its Women's Guild. Surviving are two sons, Harry, Mertztown, and Raymond, Emmaus; two daughters, Mae, wife of Donald Gery, with whom she resided, and Mrs. Lulu Adam, Mertztown; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Sallie Trexler, Williamsville, N.Y., and Iva, wife of Theodore Serfas, Philadelphia; a stepson, J. Edward Knappenberger, Lehighton; a brother, Morris Hamsher, Emmaus; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Penrose Knappenberger. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the DeLong & Trexler Funeral Home, Topton.

Knappenberger, George H.

George H. Knappenberger, 70, a native of Topton and former Allentown resident, died early yesterday morning in St. Joseph's hospital, Reading. Knappenberger had been an employe of the Yeager Furniture Co., 438 Lehigh St., and was a resident at 230 N. Franklin St., until he moved to the home of his nephew, Wilbur Souders, 1212 Robeson St., reading, last May because of ill health. A son of the late Thomas and Maria (Wilkes) Knappenberger, he was of Reformed faith. His affiliations included Jordan Lodge No. 673, F&AM; Lehigh Consistory and the Pioneer Home Assn. Surviving are the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Annie Moyer, William and Charles Knappenberger, and Mrs. Hattie Reinhard, Reading; Mrs. Mayme Harrison, Chicago, Ill.; Mrs. Stella Perr, Indianapolis, Inc.; Fred Knappenberger, York; and Peter Knappenberger, Emmaus.

Knappenberger, James E.

James E. Knappenberger of 335 Bridge St., Lehighton, died last night in the Mahoning Valley Convalescent Home. He was employed as a clerk by the Bethlehem Steel Co. until his retirement about 20 years ago. Born in Mertztown, Berks County, he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Penrose Knappenberger. His wife, the former Martha Sedgeman, died in 1936. Surviving are three sons, James P. and William S., both of Lehighton, and William S., of Mertztown; two brothers, Raymond of Emmaus and harry of Mertztown; three sisters, Mrs. T. A. Serfas of Philadelphia, Mrs. Donald Gery of Reading and Mrs. Solon Adam of Mertztown, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the William A. Garret Funeral Home, S. 3rd Street, Lehighton. Viewing will be 7-9 p.m. tomorrow.

Mrs. Lida (Helbert) Knappenberger, wife of Raymond Knappenberger, died yesterday in her home at 1365 Pennsylvania Ave., Emmaus. She was 67. Born in Mertztown, she was a daughter of the late Edwin and Mary (Reinert) Helbert. She was a member of the Longswamp United Church of Christ. Surviving with her husband are a daughter, Gladys, wife of Raymond A. Kneller, of Palm Springs, Calif.; three sisters, Pearl, wife of George Rabenold, Allentown; Nettie G. Helbert, Topton, and Bird, wife of John Fritch, Mertztown; a stepbrother, Herbert Springe of Mertztown, and two grandchildren. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the Reinsmith Funeral Home, 225 Elm St., Emmaus, with calling hours 12:30 p.m. until the time of services Saturday.

Knappenberger, Lovina (nee Levan)

Lovina (nee Levan) Knappenberger, wife of Thomas Knappenberger, former residents of Topton, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. William H. Parr, 5209 Ellenberger avenue, Indianapolis, Indiana, on Monday, October 11, 1926, aged 74 years. Mr. and Mrs. Knappenberger had been living with their daughter for the past several years. Mrs. Knappenberger was a daughter of the late Peter and Catherine Levan and was raised in Topton where she resided for more than fifty years. She was a highly respected resident of that place and was a member of St. Peter's Reformed church. She is survived by a son, Peter, of Emaus; three daughters, Mrs. William H. Parr, Indianapolis, Indiana; Mrs. Henry Reifinger, Alburtis; Mrs. Harry Betz, Reading; five stepsons, George, Allentown; William, New Land, Connecticut; Harry, Brooklyn; Charles, Reading; and Fred, York; four stepdaughters, Mrs. Peter Moyer, Mrs. George Reinert and Mrs. Mahlon Quinter, Reading, and Mrs. Caleb Harrison, Chicago. Two sisters, Mrs. John Romig, Alburtis, and Mrs. Sarah Wehr, Allentown, and a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren also survive. Funeral arrangements have not as yet been completed, although it is known that the body will be brought east for burial. Undertaker Schofer of Topton has charge.

Knappenberger, Mary E. (nee Bossert)

Mrs. Mary E., nee Bossert, Knappenberger, widow of Oliver C. Knappenberger, of 531 N. 8th St., died at 7 a.m. yesterday at her home after an illness of five months. She was a native of Hereford, Berks county, a daughter of the late Adam and Adeline, nee Huff, Bossert, and came to this city 56 years ago. She was a member of Salem Reformed church and the pastor's Bible class of that church. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Adeline Doherty, of the 8th St. address; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Her husband and two children preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held on Monday, 3 p.m., from the J. S. Burkholder funeral home, 1601 Hamilton St., with interment in West End cemetery.

Knappenberger, Penrose

Penrose Knappenberger, aged sixty-nine years, died on Monday at his home at Longsdale, near Mertztown, Berks county, following a stroke of apoplexy. He was a son of the late Henry and Maria, nee Miller, Knappenberger. He was well known through Berks and Lehigh counties. There survive his wife, three sons, four daughters, one brother and two sisters.

Knauer, John D.

Services were held for John D. Knauer, 83, of Gibraltar Road, Exeter Township, who died June 18 in the Mifflin Center, Cumru Township, where he had resided for 3-1/2 years. He was the husband of Thelma D. (Bond) Knauer. His first wife, Doris (Hartung) Knauer, died in 1992. Born in Knauertown, Chester County, he was employed for 45 years as a sales engineer by Textile Machine Works, Wyomissing, retiring in the late 1970s. He was a member of Alice Focht Memorial United Methodist Church, Birdsboro. Knauer was an Army veteran of World War II. He was president of the Albright (Lebanon-Reading) District of the United Methodist Men during the 1990s. In addition to his wife, he is also survived by a son,, Davis, Kutztown; two daughters, Jonna-Lynn (Knauer) Mandelbaum, Taos, N.M., and Kathy L. (Knauer) Cupp, Pottstown; and a stepdaughter, Joan (Spanier) Downs, Warrington, Va. Other survivors include a sister; five grandchildren and a great-granddaughter. Burial was in St. Peters Reformed Church Cemetery, Warwick Township, Chester County. The arrangements were handled by the Dengler Funeral Home Inc., Birdsboro.

Knauer, John D.

Among the local survivors of John D. Knauer, of Exeter Township, who died June 18 in the Mifflin Center, Cumru Township, where he had resided 3 1/2 years, is a son, Davis Knauer, Kutztown.

Knauss, Annie Maria (nee Hittle)

Mrs. Annie Maria (nee Hittle) Knauss, 68 years old, of Topton, died Saturday morning following a stroke of apoplexy. Mrs. Knauss was born near old Zionsville, the daughter of Joseph J. and Maria (nee Hersh) Hittle. She was a member of the Grace Lutheran church of Macungie. She leaves behind her husband, George F. Knauss, and five sons and one daughter: Walter E., of this city; William A., Macungie; Howard A., Emaus; Milton O., Catasauqua; George I., Catasauqua; Ralph O., A.E.F., France, and Mrs. Robert Adams, at home. One brother, John J. Hittle, of this city, with thirteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, also survive. Funeral services will be held at her late home on Wednesday at noon with further services at Grace Lutheran Church. Burial will be made in Union cemetery at Macungie.

Knauss, E. William

Services were held for E. William "Bill" Knauss, of Quakertown and Fenwick Island, Del., who passed away peacefully at his Quakertown home on Mar. 18, 2004 following a courageous battle with cancer. He was the husband of Barbara K. (Kuryllo) Knauss. Born in Quakertown he was the son of Donald T. and Ruth W. (Willauer) Knauss of Quakertown. Mr. Knauss was the fourth generation owner and CEO of Knauss Foods in Quakertown. He was a graduate of Quakertown Community High School and Delaware Valley College. In 1965 he was named to the All Bux-Mont League in football. He was a U.S. Naval Air Reserve veteran of the Vietnam War. He also was a member of the National Society Sons of the American Revolution, a past president and former member of the Quakertown Little League Baseball. He was a member of Emmauel Episcopal Church in Quakertown. In addition to his wife and parents Mr. Knauss is survived by a son, D.Troy of Center Valley; a daughter Jill Rossi of Harleysville; a sister Susan Minarik of Quakertown; an four grandchildren. Knauss, Edwin B.

With the death of Edwin B. Knauss at his home at Palm yesterday, this section of the state loses a veteran organ builder who is credited with designing, building and installing many pipe organs in use in a number of the churches of his native and surrounding counties. He was also one of the oldest residents of Southeastern Berks county, having attained the age of ninety-one years on March 1. Death was due to the infirmities of old age. Born in the same house in which he died, on the edge of the village of Palm, Mr. Knauss learned the organ building art from his father, George Krauss(?), who had followed that vocation for many years. In fact, it was from a family of musicians and organ builders that he descended, his grandfather and other forebears having made their livelihoods in similar manner. It is also interesting to note that the late Mr. Knauss's only son, Albert K. Knauss, of this city, is engaged in like pursuit, being a well known and expert piano tuner here. In a little workshop on the homestead at Palm, Mr. Knauss designed many of the organs still in use in some of the older churches. It was there that he made the pipes, of both zinc and wood, as well as the frames, keys and many other parts that are used in the building of an organ. It was only during the late years of his business that he bought the zinc pipes, which naturally must have been difficult for an individual to shape. He still, however, continued making his own reeds, because of the better tonal qualities he could secure from them. It is said that organs built by the hands of Mr. Knauss are of the best in these parts. One of these was installed on the Pennsburg Reformed church in 1905 and is still in use. Still others are in use in various country churches of Lehigh and Berks county. His services as an organ repairman were also in great demand until his retirement about ten years ago. His only survivors are his widow, Hannah, and son, Albert K., the latter of this city. The funeral will be held Friday afternoon with services at his late home at 2 o'clock. Interment will be made in the Krausdale Schwenkfelder cemetery.

Harry Knauss, aged 37 years, died at the Berks county home, of pulmonary trouble. He was admitted to the institution March 12, 1906. Deceased claimed Reading as his place of residence. The body has not been claimed by any one. He had a number of relatives in this city.

Harvey J. Knauss, former Reading company brakeman, died at his home in Reading, aged 63 years. About 20 years ago, Mr. Knauss was injured while employed on the railroad and since then was in ill health. Surviving is his widow, Carrie (Rowe); mother, Maria (Texter), Allentown, and three sisters, Mrs. Alice Miller, Allentown; Florence, California; Mrs. Loretta Eggler, Fullerton.

Knauss, Hettie I. (nee DeTurk)

Mrs. Hettie I. (DeTurk) Knauss, 79, of 219 Church St., Catasauqua, died Wednesday in Fountain Hill Manor. She was the widow of George I. Knauss, who died in 1966. Born in Oley, Berks County, she was a daughter of the late David and Mary (Wesco) DeTurk. She was a member of Salem United Church of Christ, Catasauqua, and a former deaconess of the church. Mrs. Knauss did volunteer service for many years at Cedarbrook, the Lehigh County home, and Allentown State Hospital. Surviving is a brother, Francis W. DeTurk, of Stoney Creek. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Thomas A. Burkholder Funeral Home, 3rd and Walnut Streets, Catasauqua. Calling hours are 7-8:30 p.m. Friday.

Knauss, John Robert

Second Lt. John Robert Knauss, son of Mr. and Mrs. John L. E. Knauss, formerly of Northampton R. 1, now of 68 W. Ettwein St., Bethlehem, will be tendered burial from the Schisler funeral home, Northampton, within 72 hours after his arrival. The pilot of a P-47 Thunderbolt, Knauss was shot down while on a strafing mission, his 38th, over Germany, Nov. 18, 1944. He was serving with "Thunder Bums" fighter squadron with the 9th Air Force. A graduate of Northampton High school, class of '41, Lt. Knauss enlisted in the Army Air Corps reserve in August, 1942, and was called to active duty March 19, 1943. He was sent to European theater in May, 1944, and served in England, France and Belgian. He was awarded the Air Medal with two Oak Leaf clusters following the completion of 26 combat missions. He had seven enemy planes to his credit. He was a member of the Reformed congregation of St. Peter's church, Seemsville, where services were held in his memory Nov. 18, 1945. At first reported missing in action, his parents were notified that he was killed in action on June 6, 1945. Surviving are his parents, a sister, Anna Pearl Knauss, at home, and the maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert O. Schlosser, 18 Main St., Northampton. Rev. George J. Laubach, pastor of the Reformed congregation of St. Peter's, will be in charge of services, with interment in the church cemetery.

Knauss, Mabel

Mrs. Mabel Knauss, wife of Ralph O. Knauss, died at Topton, the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Isenhower. Peritonitis was the cause of death. Deceased was 20 years of age. She leaves her husband, a daughter, Rachael, and an infant ten days of age, her parents and a sister, Mrs. Edgar Snyder, of Bowers. Deceased's husband was an assistant chemist for the Crane Iron Company and is at present employed on the transit road.

Knauss, Martha L. (nee Leibold)

Martha L., nee Leibold, wife of Henry K. Knauss, died at 5:15 p.m. Monday at her home, 1236 Chew St., from the effects of a heart attack suffered Sunday. She was 56 years old. Mrs. Knauss was born in Albany township, Berks county, Oct. 30, 1879, the daughter of John Leibold and his wife Anna (Steirwald) Leibold. She was a faithful member of Zion U.B. church and its Sunday school. Surviving are her husband; two sons, Harold P., Westerville, O.; and Homer, at home. There are three brothers, Amandus and Frank Leibold, Reading; Charles, San Francisco, and two grandchildren. Private funeral services will be held from her late home at 2 p.m. Friday. Public services will be held in Zion U.B. church, 9th and Linden Sts., at 2:30 p.m. Interment will be made on the family plot in Grand View cemetery. Friends may call Thursday evening.

Knauss, Mary Etta (nee Weiler)

While partaking of dinner at the home of her son, O. J. Knauss, at this place, last Thursday, the 3d inst., Mary Etta, the aged widow of Aquila Knauss, was stricken with heart failure and died within a few minutes. She had been talking with the family, was cheerful as usual when the summons came so suddenly and caused a great shock to her many friends. She had been remarkably well preserved, performing household duties up to her death. She brought her age to 85 years, 8 months and 3 days. Deceased was a daughter of the long deceased George Weiler and his wife Salome, a born Schaeffer. She was born at Longswamp township, Berks county, and became a member of the Reformed church. She was married to Aquila Knauss, of Emaus, at a suitable age. He preceded her in death eleven years. They lived for about twenty years at Emaus where all but one of her children were born. Four children have also preceded the mother and these three daughters and four sons survive: Isabella, wife of Samuel Brunner, of Limeport; Ellen, wife of Henry J. Balliet, of Boyertown; Emma, wife of Harry Jarrett, of West Point, Neb.; George F. Knauss, of Topton; O. J. Knauss, Justice of the Peace, and O. P. Knauss, published of Progress, of Macungie, and A. W. Knauss, of Allentown. There also survive two sisters, Mrs. J. P. Haas, of Reading, and Mrs. Edwin Fegely, of Shamrock, as also 43 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren. She came of a family prominent in Berks county's history and activities. Her father was a large landowner and was once county commissioner. Her brother Amos was a prothonotary and the other brother, Manoah, was for many years proprietor of leading hotels in Reading. She was a member of the Moravian church of Emaus, of which her husband's progenitors were leading members 164 years ago. One of them was a founder of the congregation. The funeral was held on Monday forenoon. Services were held in St. Matthew's Lutheran church and interment made on Fairview cemetery, where the husband lies buried. Rev. A. E. Abel, the Moravian pastor, and the choir, with the trombones, officiated.

Knauss, Mabel E. (nee Eisenhower)

Mabel E., wife of Ralph O. Knauss, died Wednesday night at the residence of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Eisenhower, Topton, aged 19 years, 1 month and 20 days. She had been sick only a few days with peritonitis. Mrs. Knauss is survived by her bereaved husband, one daughter, Rachel, aged 1 years and 10 months, and an infant 10 days old. Her parents and one sister, Mrs. Edgar Snyder, of Bowers, also remain. Her husband was formerly a chemist at the Crane laboratory, Catasauqua, and is now a conductor for the Lehigh Valley Transit Co. He is a brother of Milton O. Knauss, of Catasauqua, and Howard A. Knauss, superintendent of the Reading furnaces of the Empire Steel & Iron Co., and Walter E. and Wm. A. Knauss, of Macungie. The funeral was held on Monday afternoon. Services were held at the home of her parents, and in St. Peter's church. Interment was made in the cemetery of the church.

Knauss, Sarah (nee Kase)

Sarah, wife of Theodore Knauss, of No. 209 North Tenth street, passed away Friday at the home of her son, Rev. E. R. Seip, pastor of the Evangelical Church, Lehighton. She was visiting the latter and intended to return home Thursday. On Christmas she was stricken with a heart affection which had been troubling her for two years. Her husband was sent for and remained with her to her death. Deceased was 65 years of age. She was born in Greenwich, Berks county, and was a daughter of John and Esther Kase. She was married 42 years ago to Mr. Knauss and since that time had been a resident of Allentown. She leaves her husband, a son, Rev. E. R. Seip, by a former marriage, one daughter, Mrs. Alfred Ehrich, of Allentown, the following grandchildren: Minnie, wife of Paul Laros; Theodore, Charles and Earle Ehrich, of this city; and Bessie Seip, of Lehighton; seven great-grandchildren, a brother, Isaac A. Kase, ex-Alderman of the Seventh Ward; sisters, Mrs. ------, Kate Reider, both of this city. Mrs. Knauss was an active member of Trinity United Evangelical Church, and President of the Ladies' Aid Society of the congregation.

Blanche, wife of Harry O. Kneedler, of Alburtis, died of a complication of ills on Tuesday, at 4.45 o'clock p.m. She became seriously sick on Friday and the grim destroyer could not be stayed. Death is peculiarly pathetic in this instance and at this holiday season. Deceased was only 23 years old and left a little son three weeks old. A little daughter preceded the mother over a year ago. Mrs. Kneedler was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Simon Romig, of Hancock, Berks county. They and four sisters, besides the bereaved husband survive to mourn her early demise. She was a member of Grace Lutheran church, Macungie. The funeral will take place on Saturday at 10.30 o'clock a.m. Services will be held in the church here after the arrival of the funeral cortege. Interment will be made on Solomon's church cemetery.

Kneedler, Harvey S.

Harvey S. Kneedler, of 535 Maple street, Bethlehem, died Wednesday evening at 6 o'clock at his home, aged 56 years, 7 months and 25 days. Mr. Kneedler was a native of Longswamp and was a son of the late George and Sarah Buck Kneedler. He is survived by his widow, one son, at home, and one daughter, Mrs. Bert Drandeal, New Jersey. The funeral will be held privately Saturday afternoon from his late home. Friends can view the remains on Friday evening from 7 to 8.30 o'clock.

Diana, wife of John S. Knerr, died at her husband's home yesterday, aged 72 years, 1 month and 17 days. Deceased was born in Longswamp township, Berks county, and is survived by the following brother and sisters: Mrs. Maria Schrader, Kate Fisher, Charles Fisher, of Krumsville, and Mrs. Lydia Mercie, of Virginsville. Her husband, John S. Knerr, and one son, Charles H., also survive.

Knerr, Franklin Louis

Franklin Louis Knerr died on Wednesday at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Frank L. Titlow, near Hancock, along Mertztown R.D., aged 87 years. He had observed his 87th birthday anniversary on Tuesday. He was a native of Weisenberg township, Lehigh county, a son of the late Solomon and Judieann (Bachman) Knerr, was a retired farmer and carpenter, a member of the Reformed congregation of Ziegel's Church, and of Jordan Lodge, I.O.O.F., Schnecksville. Surviving are these children: John W. Knerr, Bridgeville, N.J.; Edward S. Knerr, Seipstown; Mrs. Cora T. Bortz and Mrs. Charles Kuhns, both of Allentown; Mrs. Frank Titlow, near Hancock, and Mrs. Constant Zimmerman, Emmaus; 14 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. William Bleiler, Lynnville. The funeral will be held at 11:30 a.m. Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Titlow. Continued services and interment will be at Ziegel's church.

Knerr, Harold

The second death from polio at Allentown Hospital was that of a husband and father of eight children from Shamrock, near Topton, who died last evening. Harold Knerr, 39, who has been in Allentown Hospital since Oct. 28 with bulbar polio, died at 7:10 p.m. He was the sixth fatality in a six-county area this season. Knerr was the husband of Mrs. Goldie (Heffner) Knerr. He was born in Weisenberg township, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Knerr of the Pleasant Corner Hotel. He was a member of the Longswamp Reformed Church, Topton, Topton Fire Co., and the Topton American Legion. He worked for the last five years with the Caloric Stove Co., Topton. He is survived by his wife, his parents and eight children: Edward, Warren, Miriam, Lee, Marie, Betty, Anita and Dennis, all at home.

June I. Knerr, 88, formerly of Shillington, died Aug. 7 at 10:45 a.m. in Phoebe Berks Health Care Center Inc., Wernersville, where she had resided since Nov. 25, 2003. Her husband, Frank W. Knerr Sr., died Oct. 7, 1987. Born in Reading, she was a daughter of the late Harry A. and Magdalena (Korhamer) Cutler. Knerr was employed by the Pagoda Knitting Mills, Reading, and was last employed as a seamer by the Talbot Knitting Mills, Reading, retiring in 1982. She was a member of West Lawn United Methodist Church. Surviving is a son, Frank W. Jr., West Lawn. Other survivors include two grandchildren and two great-granddaughters. Memorial services will be Friday at 11 a.m. in the West Lawn UM Church. Burial will be private. Lamm & Witman Funeral Home Inc., Wernersville, is in charge of arrangements.

Knerr, Kathryn F. (nee Barto)

Mrs. Kathryn F. (Barto) Knerr, 76, a former Alburtis resident and widow of George H. Knerr, died Monday at the home of her son, Gerald J. Knerr, in Birdsboro. Born in Topton, she was a daughter of the late Johnathan and Lucellia Barto. Mrs. Knerr was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ in Reading. Surviving are two sons, Burton H., Reading, and Gerald J., Birdsboro; two grandchildren; a brother, Wallace C. Barto, Topton, and a sister, Ellen, wife of Clarence Stauffer, Topton. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Miller Funeral Home, 48 N. 4th St., Reading. Calling hours will be 7-9 p.m. tomorrow.

Knerr, Lafayette

Lafayette Knerr, of No. 529 Liberty street, died on Wednesday night from the effects of a stroke of apoplexy, aged 75 years. He had been ill over a month with ailments incident to old age. Deceased is survived by his widow and the following children: Walter P. Knerr, of Cleveland, and Mrs. Mary J. Leaser, of this city; three sisters, Mrs. Caroline Kleckner and Mrs. Anna Reichard, of Easton; Mrs Eliza Diehl, of Seidersville; two brothers, Samuel, of Weissport, and John, of Allentown, and a half-brother, Tilghman Ginkinger, of Allentown. Deceased was a veteran of the Civil War and fought in Company B, 47th Regiment, serving three years. He was a native of Longswamp township, Berks county, and came to Allentown five years ago.

Lydia, wife of George Knerr, of 114 North Ninth street, died yesterday of infirmities due to old age, aged eighty-five years. Deceased was born in Hereford township, Berks county. She was a member of Salem Reformed Church since its organization. The children that survive are Mrs. Ellen C. Smith, Amanda, Amelia and James Knerr, all of this city. Seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren also survive. The funeral will be held on Saturday.

Kniss, Bernard D.

Bernard D. Kniss, 22, of 122 Normal Ave., Kutztown, died yesterday morning at his home after a long illness. Born in Topton, Pa., son of Lincoln E. and Esta B. (Heffner) Kniss, he was graduated from Kutztown High School, class of 1953. Kniss was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Kutztown, and of the Kutztown Rev-Masters. Besides his parents, he is survived by a brother, Bruce E., at home; a sister, Marjorie J., at home; his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Louisa (Schaffer) Kniss, Fleetwood, RD; and his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Sally (Beitler) Heffner, Fleetwood. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Kutztown.

Knittle, John A.

John A. Knittle, 64, of Kutztown R. 3, died Wednesday in Community General Hospital, Reading. He was the husband of Ruth D. (Mertz) Knittle. He was a farmer for many years before retiring in 1972. He was also a part-time school and tour bus driver for Carl R. Bieber, Inc., Kutztown. Born in Maxatawny Township, he was a son of the late Eugene A. and Katie A. (Mertz) Knittle. He was a member of Maxatawny Zion Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council. He was a former member of the Richmond Township and Fleetwood Area school boards for many years until 1973. He was a member of the Zion Maxatawny Union Cemetery Board. In 1974, he was named �Grange of the Year� of the Kutztown Grange. Surviving with his widow are a son, Daniel P., of Kutztown R. 3; a daughter, Sandra A., wife of Irwin A. Kohler of Fleetwood R. 4; a foster son, Llewellyn F. Smith Sr., of Fleetwood R. 2; a brother, Albert E., of Kutztown R. 3; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Services will be at 10:30 am. Saturday in the church. Calling hours will be 7-8:30 p.m. Friday in the Trexler and Hook Funeral Home, 25 E. Weiss St., Topton.

Knittle, Samuel

Samuel Knittle met a horrible fate on the East Penn road. He walked on the tracks. When the train approached, he stepped aside, but the snow had not been shoveled away far enough. Body badly cut up.

The East Penn passenger train due here at 4:33 p.m., but which last evening arrived at the Terminal station twelve minutes late, carried upon it the marks of another horrible death on the rail in the person of Samuel Knittle at Lyons.

The man was walking on the track near Lyons and as the train approached, he stood up along the snow bank on the side of the tracks to get out of the way of the train. The snow had not been shoveled away further than was necessary for the train to pass as there was not enough space for him to stand without being struck by the train. The engine and first car passed him, but the steps at the rear of the first car and front of the second car caught him and carried him along. The rear steps completed the work of hurling him to his doom. These three steps were broken. It hardly seems possible that the body of a man should cause the breaking of three steps, the bloods marks and small pieces of flesh may be noticed. Some of the flesh lies on the stove under the car. The blood marks are on the side and fragments of his clothing hung upon nails and bolts of the cars. The body was cut into a thousand pieces. His brain lay at one place, a hand at another and all about were scattered fragments of his body.

The trainsmen did not know of the accident until they reached Lyons. Engineer Patterson had seen the man rearing up against the snow bank and passed him. Conductor William Reiff was standing in the aisle of a car when the man was struck, but thought the train was colliding. He stood still and said, “Well, here we go.” Harvey Kupp, the baggagemaster, also felt the collision, but did not know what it meant. It was his car that first struck the unfortunate man and he says he felt as if the rear of the car was being raised.

It may be that Knittle, while standing back, got excited as the train passed and slid forward. The crew went back and saw the condition of affairs. Conductor Reiff gave orders to the section men to gather all the remains possible and place them in a neat box. Knittle was single, probably 53 years of age, and boarded with the family of David Heffner at Lyons. Conductor Reiff picked up a postal addressed to Mr. Heffner, Lyons, and signed by Amos Rothermel of Fleetwood. At first it was thought the name of the unfortunate was Heffner, but later it was learned his name was Knittle.

Knittle, Victoria L. (nee Wingert)

Ill two years and bedfast since last Labor Day, Mrs. Victoria L. Knittle, widow of Frank Knittle, died at 7:30 Friday night at her home, 527 N. 10th St., Allentown. She was 78. Mrs. Knittle was born in Hereford township, Berks county, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Wingert. She lived in Allentown the last 40 years. Her husband died two years ago. Mrs. Knittle was a devout member of St. Andrew's Reformed church and was active in the wood Roy Bible class and Wiling Workers. Surviving are a daughter, Sallie Hedrick, at home, and one grandson. Funeral arrangements will be announced today.

Knoblauch, John G.

Memorial graveside services will be held June 14, 11 a.m., in Port Clinton Cemetery, for John G. Knoblauch, 53, who died of natural causes June 1 after being stricken in his car which was parked at his Dock Street, Port Clinton residence. Born in Reading, he was a son of the late Morris and Evelyn M. (Kauffman) Knoblauch. For the past seven years he was employed as a machine operator by Mid-Atlantic Canners, Hamburg. He was a life member of the National Rifle Association; Yellow Breeches Game and Conservation Club, Boiling Springs, Cumberland County; Little Schuylkill Conservation Club; and the Lenhartsville Fish & Game Association. Knoblauch was a trustee of the Schuylkill County Fire Police Association and a lieutenant of the Auburn Fire Police. Surviving is a sister, Lorraine L. (Knoblauch) Graeff, Port Clinton. The Burkey & Driscoll Funeral Home, Hamburg, is in charge of arrangements.

Knoske, J. William A.

Death yesterday called J. William A. Knoske, a well known resident of Bowers, the end coming there at the his home, the residence of his sister, Mrs. Louisa DeLong, of complications. He was in his 79th year and unmarried. Besides his sister, Mrs. DeLong, with whom he resided for some years, he is survived by two brothers, J. Charles Knoske, of Baltimore, Md., and Harry E. Knoske, Warren, Ohio. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran church, Bowers, and was affiliated with Camp 172, P.O.S. of A., of Topton. The funeral will be held from his late home at Bowers on Friday at 1.30 p.m. standard time. Brief services at the house will be followed by further services in the Trinity Lutheran church, Bowers. Rev. William F. Bond, of Shamrock, will officiate. Interment will be made in the Union cemetery, Bowers.

Knutzen, Lucy (nee Kranzley)

Mrs. Lucy, widow of Peter Knutzen, of Topton, former residents of this city, died at her home there on Thursday afternoon at 5 o'clock, after a long illness from dropsy. Mrs. Knutzen was a native of this city, and was a daughter of the late Louis and Wilhelmina Kranzley, and a sister of Fire Chief William R. Kranzley. Her husband for a long time was head baker for the J. A. J. Co. About fifteen years ago they moved to Topton, where Mr. Knutzen became engaged to the bakery business for himself. He died about three years ago. There survives a daughter, Mrs. Annie Sechrist, and these sisters and brothers, Mrs. Annie Wieand, Mrs. Nettie Dressell and William R. Kranzley, this city, and Louis Kranzley, of East Greenville.

Peter Knutzen, a former resident of this city, died on Tuesday at his residence at Topton. Death was due to diabetes. Mr. Knutzen was engaged in the bakery business at Topton until about four years ago when he retired. He was an active member of the following fraternal organizations: Alton Castle, No. 149, Knights of the Mystic Chain; Catasauqua Castle, No. 241, K.G.E.; Constantine Lodge, No. 1113, I.O.O.F., of Allentown; Gellert and Germanic Lodge, No. 202, D.O.H., of Allentown, and of the Topton Knights of Friendship. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Louisa, nee Kranzley, Knutzen; a daughter, Mrs. Ann Secrist, of Topton, and a brother, Christian Knutzen, of Philadelphia. The funeral will be held from his late home at Topton on Saturday afternoon at 12.30 o'clock. Further services in Zion Reformed church, Allentown, and interment in Greenwood cemetery. Rev.
