Simon A. Valek, of 503 E. 5th St., Bethlehem, died yesterday morning in his home. He was the husband of Helen (Check) Valek. Born in Topton, he was a son of the late Simon and Anna Valek. He was employed as a salesman by Swift & Co. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Bethlehem. His widow is his only survivor. Services will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday in the Kametz Funeral Home, 114 W. 4th St., Bethlehem, followed at 9:30 a.m. by a High Mass of Requiem in St. Joseph's Church. Viewing will be tomorrow night.

Mrs. Elizabeth Valentine, who resides with her son-in-law, Charles J. Young, 312 Miller st., died 10:30 Monday evening, of a complication of diseases, aged 67 years. Deceased was ill 12 days. Mrs. Valentine was born in Womelsdorf, but since the death of her husband, 20 years ago, has been living in Reading. She was a member of the Lutheran church, Womelsdorf. The following are the surviving children: Mrs. Rebecca Heller and Mrs. Wm. Schultz, of Phila.; Mrs. Lizzie Sterner, Mrs. Charles Young, Wm., of Womelsdorf, and John, of Norristown.

Among the local survivors of Ruth E. (Diefenderfer) VanCampen, 91, formerly of West Reading, who died June 15 in ManorCare Health Services Inc., West Reading, where she had resided six years is a daughter, Joan (VanCampen) Suglia, Bern Township.

Services were held for Frank F. Vandevort III, 62, of Old State Road, Alsace Township, who died February 1 in his residence. He was the husband of Beverly (Sonday) Vandevort. Born in Bryn Mawr, he had been employed for 11 years as a mortgage banker by Sallie Mae Financial Services, last working in 2002. He graduated from Gov. Mifflin High School in 1958, from Valley Forge Military Academy, Wayne, and from the University of Richmond in 1964. Vandevort served in the Army Airborne Rangers in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He is also survived by two sons, Benjamin S., Reading, and Christian S., Alameda, Calif. There are also two grandchildren. The Henninger Funeral Home Inc., Reading, handled the arrangements.

A memorial service will be held November 16, for Delores E. Van Every, 63, of Davida Pines Drive, Robeson Township, who died November 4. She had been a resident of Manor-Care Health Services Inc., Pottstown, since October 25. Born in Spring Mountain, she was employed for 12 years as a custodian in the Perkiomen Valley School District, retiring in 1988. Surviving are two sons, Harry E. Ade, with whom she last resided, and David M. Van Every, Phoenixville; and three daughters: Brenda J. Bruch, Green Lane; Lorilee Vignochi, Fort Myers, Fla.; and Mary F. Bowlin, Schwenksville. Other survivors include two sisters and four brothers. Also 12 grandchildren and a great-granddaughter. She was predeceased by a daughter, Nancy S. Ade, in 1981. The memorial service will be held in her residence. Burial will be private. The Klee Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Shillington, was in charge of the arrangements.

Services were held in Auman Funeral Homes, Reiffton, for Margaret C. Vanino, formerly of Reading, who died March 14 in Laurel Center Genesis Elder Care, Tilden Township, where she had been a resident for 11 years. Burial was in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Reiffton. Born in Paluzza, Italy, she was a daughter of the late Jacob and Josephine (Morro) Vanino. Until her retirement in 1977, she was employed as a seamstress for 40 years. Surviving is a son, Richard J. Primus, Centre Township. There are three grandchildren and three great-granddaughters. Also surviving is a brother, Jacob Vanino, Wyomissing. She was predeceased by a son, Thomas Vanino, in June 1984.

Services were held for Harry F. VanRiper Jr., 80, husband of Arlene R. (Buckwalter) VanRiper, of Gilbertsville, formerly of East Coventry, who died May 11 in his home. Born in Chester, he attended Glenmoore Schoolhouse in Glenmoore. He worked for more than 35 years at Glasgow Construction Inc. in Glenside before retiring in 1985. VanRiper was a member of the Local 542 Union of Operating Engineers. He served in the Army during World War II as a staff sergeant in the 14th Infantry Armored Division in the European Theater. He was an active member of the Bethel United Methodist Church in Spring City, where he was a former president of the trustees, the cemetery caretaker for more than 20 years, and a former president of the Men's Breakfast. He was a founder and a former scout master of the Boy Scout Troop No. 4 at Bethel United Methodist Church in Spring City. He was a past president of the East Coventry P.T.A; also on the board of the East Coventry Judge of Elections and a member of the Spring City American Legion. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Lynda C. Sabo of North Coventry; a son, Thomas H. VanRiper of Kenilworth; five grandchildren; and three great-grandsons. He was predeceased by a daughter; three sisters and a brother. Donations may be made to the Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery, 952 Bethel Church Road, Spring City, PA 19475; or the American Cancer Society, 700 Horizon Circle, Suite 201, Chalfont, PA 18914. Burial was in Limerick Garden of Memories in Limerick. The arrangements were handled by the Cattermole-Klotzbach Funeral Home of Royersford.

Services will be Friday for Mary N. (Novak) Varady, 89, of Black Rock Road, Royersford and formerly of Stowe in Upper Providence. She was a resident of the Montgomery County Geriatric and Rehabilitation Center in Royersford. She was the widow of William Varady. Born in Hazleton, she worked as a sewing machine operator at Sunset Manufacturing in Pottstown until 1985. She was a member of St. Paul's Church in Stowe, where she was a member of the Senior Fellowship and the Women's Guild. She is survived by one son, John Varady of Boyertown; three daughters, Marianne Reigner and Arlene Geisler, both of Stowe, and Carol Myers of Strausstown. Also, two brothers, Charles Novak of Stowe and Alex Varady of Pottstown; two sisters, Elizabeth Basco of Pottstown and Margaret Toth of Las Vegas. Also, 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. Friends may call from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday in the Catagnus Funeral Home, 711 N. Franklin St., Pottstown. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in St. Paul's Church, 653 Glasgow St., Stowe, with the Rev. Lenn Zeller and the Rev. James Myers, officiating. Contributions may be made to the St. Paul's Church Memorial Fund, 653 Glasgow St., Stowe, PA 19464; or to the Montgomery County Geriatric and Rehabilitation Center, 1600 Black Rock Road, Royersford, PA 19468. Burial will be in the Pottstown Cemetery West.

Services were held in the Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, West Reading, for Kathleen A. Velez, 58, Chestnut Street, Shoemakersville, who was dead on arrival of natural causes Jan. 16 in Reading Hospital. Burial was in Berks County Memorial Gardens. She was the wife of Elias D. Velez. Born in Shoemakersville, she was a daughter of the late George and Marian (Fritz) Henne. Velez was a 1962 graduate of Perry High School. She was employed as a consumer service representative by Exide Corp., Reading, for 16 years. Velez was a member of Lighthouse Christian Center, West Reading. Also surviving are a daughter, Merisa Velez, Reading, and two sons, Christopher Henne and Matthew Velez, both of Shoemakersville, and three grandchildren.

Maryrose T. Venezia, 79, of Quakertown, formerly of Chalfont, died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2003 at Phoebe Richland Health Care Center, Richlandtown. Graveside services were held Jan. 6. Born in Phoenixville, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary Kassel. She is survived by: one daughter, Joan Beitler of Quakertown; one grandson. Arrangements: C. R. Strunk Funeral Home Inc., Quakertown.

Mary C. Vetovich, 81, Spring Township, died July 10 at 2:30 p.m. in Reading Hospital, shortly after admission.
She was the wife of Edward A. Vetovich.
Born in West Reading, she was a daughter of the late Anthony and Agatha (Bisazza) Lombardo.
Vetovich had been employed for 17 years as a cost analyst by Talbott Knitting Mills Inc., Reading, retiring in 1985. She previously worked for 10 years at Reading Trust Co.
She was a member of St. Ignatius Loyola Roman Catholic Church, Whitfield.
Vetovich was a graduate of St. Peter's High School, Reading.
She also is survived by a son, Michael J. Huffert, Sweet Valley, Luzerne County, and a daughter, Patricia A. (Huffert) Balthaser, Sinking Spring.
Other survivors include two sisters, Natalie (Lombardo) O'Neill, Wyomissing, and Josephine (Lombardo) Goerner, Wernersville.
There also are five grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Cecelia M. Huffert; and two sons, Robert W. Huffert and William R. Huffert Jr.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10:30 a.m. in St. Ignatius Loyola Church. Entombment will be in Gethsemane Cemetery Mausoleum, Laureldale. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home Inc., West Reading, is in charge of arrangements.

Services were held for Eilene S. Villa, 82, who died February 22 in her residence in Westfield, N.J. Her husband, George Villa, died in 1996. Born in Douglassville, she was a member of First United Methodist Church, Westfield. Surviving are a son, George S., Tewksbury, N.J.; and two daughters, Eilene S. Villa, New York City, and Joanne S. Villa, Westfield. Other survivors include two brothers, Lester and Melvin Schurr, both of Douglassville; and three sisters: Gladys (Schurr) Philion and Jeane (Schurr) Rohrbach, both of Douglassville, and Alma (Schurr) Millard, Topton. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery, Westfield. The Higgins and Bonner Funeral Homes, Westfield, was in charge of the arrangements.

A funeral Mass was celebrated for John Paul Virus, 84, of Kutztown Road, East Greenville, formerly of Sassamansville, who died November 11 in Grand View Hospital in Sellersville. He was the husband of Genivieve (Mikanowicz) Virus. Born in Switchback, W. Va., Virus worked as a self-employed farmer from 1950 to 1994. He was a member of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church in Pennsburg, where he was a member of the Holy Name Society. Virus was a charter member of the Sassamansville and Gilbertsville fire companies. In addition to his wife of 57 years, he is survived only by nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers and five sisters. Contributions may be made to St. Philip Neri Catholic Church Building Fund, 1325 Klinerd Road, Pennsburg, PA 18073. The Falk Funeral Home, Pennsburg, handled the arrangements.

A private service was held for Marie Vizcaino, 79, of Philadelphia who passed away on Feb. 28, 2004 in Jeanes Hospital, Philadelphia. She was the wife of the late John J. Vizcaino. Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Leonard and Mary (Loughran) Studley. She was an auto parts supervisor for a number of years at Cardon's in Philadelphia. Russel F. VonNeida, 92, formerly of Shillington, died May 14 at noon in Phoebe Berks Village Health Care Center Inc., Wernersville, where he had resided since Nov. 17. Born in Reading, he was a son of the late James M. and Katie (Stettler) VonNeida. VonNeida was a partner with the Shillington Kiddy Shop, retiring in the 1950s. He previously worked as a knitter at Berkshire Knitting Mills, Wyomissing. He was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ, Shillington. VonNeida was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a life member of the Clover Park Athletic Association, Shillington; the Mohnton Fish & Game Association and the Woodhouse Hunting Club in Lycoming County. VonNeida is survived by a son, Terry R., Shillington, and a daughter, Dianne K. (VonNeida) Ostrich, Robesonia. There are also two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Private graveside services will be in Fairview Cemetery, Shillington. The Klee Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Shillington, is in charge of arrangements.
