I am also researching the St. Gabriel Chapel of 1801. The stonework is in a unique herringbone style that only exists on one other building in Douglassville, but on 3 houses on Unionville Rd in Union Twnship. The stonemason is thought to be Jacob Kerlin, but I can't prove it yet. St. Gabriel's was listed on the Nat. Reg. of Hist. Places.

Comments: Most of my ancestors settled originally in Berks County. But in 1811, when Schuylkill County was formed using part of Berks Co., they found themselves living in Schuylkill County. Most of the information I have been able to gather on them I've gotten from kind Berks County researchers. I was born in Pottsville and raised in Schuylkill Haven. After WW II my father found work in Baltimore, MD thus we were uprooted and my Dad became the first generation to leave the Berks/Schuylkill area since my grx6-grandfather came to this country and settled in Berks Co. in 1743. I now live in Delaware County, PA; but Berks/Schuylkill is still "home" to me.
