Types of records held in the Pronothary's Office

  • Jury Duty - Grand Jury Duty
Every tax-paying male (earliest dates were just males) could be called for jury duty.  Notifications were sent based on the year's tax list.  Ever wonder if your ancestor served Jury Duty?  Look in the Prothonotary's Office for records.  Best to visit in-person to do your own searches, unless you know an exact date or exact court case.
  • Lawsuits
Ancestors suing each other?  Who would have guessed that gr-gr-gr-gr-Uncle Joe was at odds with his sibling or with his neighbors?  Check for personal lawsuits here.
  • Naturalizations
Requests:  Make request IN WRITING.  Office will notify the requestor as to how many pages and the copying costs, so you then send additional monies before they mail the record.

Fees: Naturalization record $5.00 PER NAME.

Payment:  Money Order preferred.

Available online - www.co.washington.pa.us - look-up citations of records yourself.  Cost: 60.00 yr. from June to June, pro-rated if you apply mid-year.  NOTE: This service is NOT for frequent users, because the website service does monitor usage.

NOTE - The official Washington County PA website removed the PDF (Acrobat Reader) brochure for the  TYPES OF RECORDS
the  Washington County PA Court House might have.
THEY REPLACED THE PDF WITH THIS PAGE.
NOTE: Call or write the office listed for up-to-date information about where records are stored and how to make requests.
