Mary A. Hakes, age 78, of 7 Charles Street, Waverly, N.Y. passed away at her daughter’s home in Athens, Pa. Monday, Oct. 20, 2008. Born in Waverly, the daughter of the late Walter and Lovetta Kneller Thrasher. Mary was employed at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre as a nurse’s aide for over 40 years until her retirement from the ICU Dept. She attended the Waverly First Baptist Church. Mary is survived by her daughters: Jean Moore of S. Waverly, Pa., Marianne Howard of Binghamton, N.Y., Susan Moore of Athens; her son Jonathan Hakes of Athens; her sister, Norman Foster of Barton, N.Y.; several grand and great grandchildren, and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, William Hakes, June 27, 1995, her son, Floyd Perry, daughters, June Hammaker and Alice Easley. Due to Mary’s wishes, calling hours and funeral services will be private at the Blauvelt Funeral Home, 625 Broad Street, Waverly, N.Y.
The celebration of Mary’s life will be by her pastor, the Rev. Steven Reynolds, who will be honoring her memory. In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy may be made to: First Baptist Church, 23 Tioga Street, Waverly, N.Y. 14892 or to Guthrie Hospice, RR 1, Box 154, Towanda, PA, 18848. Biography

House, Phyllis M.

Phyllis M. House of Sayre , Pennsylvania died on September 9, 2009 at the Sayre House Nursing Home after an extended illness.
Phyllis was born at the People’s Co-Operative Hospital in Sayre , PA July 1, 1930 and is the daughter of the late Charles H. McCarroll and Cora Alvesta (Hunsinger) McCarroll and a life-long resident of Sayre.
She is the paternal granddaughter of Harry H. McCarroll and Dicae (Felton) McCarroll and maternal granddaughter of Clinton Hunsinger and Margaret (Thrasher) Hunsinger.
She graduated from Sayre Area High School in 1949 and attended Ridley’s Business School in Binghamton , New York.
She retired from the Sayre Area School District after thirty-seven years as Secretary to twelve High School Principals from 1956 through 1993.
Phyllis loved and enjoyed her family, church, flower gardens, bird watching, and her devoted kitty "Muffin." She was especially interested in her family genealogy.
She also volunteered at the Sayre Area School District "Archives" for many years helping to organize and computerize the inventory for the preservation of the extensive "Archival" collection. She served as chairperson of The Church of the Redeemer (Episcopal) Memorial Donation Committee and compiled and helped to update the Memorial Donation and Stained-glass Window Book.
She is survived by a very devoted and loving daughter Terri L. House of Sayre and extended family of brothers-in-law and their wives; Charles and Doris House of Waverly, New York, Donald and Wilhelmina House of Sayre, PA and nieces, nephews and cousins. Her husband William Howard House whom she married in 1952 was killed in an automobile accident February 5, 1970 .
Memorials in Phyllis’s memory may be made to the Sayre Public Library 122 S. Elmer Avenue, Sayre, PA or a charity of your choice.
Flowers will be provided by her family.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Sunday September 13, 2009 from 1-3 PM at the Blauvelt Funeral Home 625 Broad Street Waverly, NY.
Funeral services to celebrate Phyllis's life will be held on Monday September 14, 2009 at 10:00 AM at the Church of the Redeemer in Sayre Pa.
Burial will be held in Tioga Point Cemetery, Athens Pa.

Ms. Amanda C. Thrasher died Wednesday morning at the home of her brother, Charles Thrasher of Colley, at the age of 64 years.

She is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Anna Kunkle of Sugar Hill, Mrs. Mary Yonkin of Cherry Township and Mrs. Maggie McCarroll of Colley, and two brothers, Charles Thrasher of Colley and Samuel F. Thrasher of Cherry Township.

Funeral service will be held at her late home Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock. Interment in the cemetery at Colley.

9.Charles Thrasher (Samuel B., Benjamin, George Thrasher); born August 15, 1875; died in 1937. He took his own life because he was sick and is buried in Colley Cemetery, Colley, PA

Charles Thrasher of Colley township committed suicide Monday at his home about one mile from the town of Colley.

He was found Tuesday by Ira Steele, a neighbor. Mr. Thrasher was sitting on his porch with a rifle clasped between his knees.

Mr. Thrasher lived on a farm and was single, age 62 years. The survivors are one brother, Samuel Thrasher of Cherry township and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Yonkin of Cherry township and Mrs. Nelson McCarroll of Colley.

Funeral will be held Friday afternoon from his late home.
