Summit Township was incorporated in 1843.
The township was first settled in 1779 and was formed from the Elk Lick and Brothersvalley Townships.
Summit Township is located in the lower mid-section of the county.
It is bounded to the north by Brothersvalley Township; to the west by Black Township; to the south by Elk Lick Township; and to the east by Greenville and Larimer
Townships.
The main boroughs of Summit Township are Meyersdale and Garrett.
Meyersdale was first settled in 1844 and was incorporated in 1871.
Garrett was first settled in 1869 and was incorporated in 1900.
