Jane D. Sweney was born in Salem, Mercer County, Pennsylvania, July 15, 1824. She was married to John B. Allen, Dec. 19, 1844 in Salem, Mercer County, Pa., To this union eight children were born, of whom six remain to mourn her loss: one dying in infancy and John Wesley in Fayette, July 12, 1895. Those remaining are Mrs. S.A. Blair residing at Lake City, Iowa, Mrs. L.E. McCoy, of Kirksville, Mo., Mrs. M.E. Mulholland, of Carroll City, Iowa, A.F. Holland of Boulder, Colorado, Mrs. George Martin, & Mrs. C. J. Allen, of Willow Springs, Wisconsin. She died Feb. 12, 1900, aged 75 years, 6 mos, and 27 days, at the home of Mrs. George Martin, her youngest daughter.

She united with the M.E. church, at the age of 16 and has been a faithful and consistent christian until death. She was a kind and loving wife and mother, always sacrificing herself for the welfare of others.
We miss you mother but we know you are beyond the reach of toil and care. Ere this you have heard the welcome summons: "Well done good and faithful servant, enter in to thy rest." "We shall meet you there."
