Mrs. Elizabeth McKinney , an old and respected citizen of Mercer, died Saturday evening (April 16, 1905) at the home of her daughter, Mrs. George Reznor, after a lingering illness. Mrs. McKinney was the eldest child of William Jones, one of the prominent early residents of this section. She was born in a settlement known as Jonesville, East Lackawannock Twp. August 31, 1821, and the greater part of her life was spent in the vicinity.

At the age of 16 she married the late John M. McKinney, a well known furnace man, who served one term as Sheriff of the county. For a number of years she and her husband conducted the old Forest House north of Mercer, which in its day was one of the most notable hostelries in this part of the state. Later they moved to Franklin Square, Ohio, where Mr. McKinney died in 1898, since which she has resided with the Reznor family. Mrs. McKinney was the last member of her generation of her family, a brother, William Jones died a few days ago. She is survived by 3 daughters and 2 sons, Mesdames S. J. Beyers, J.G. White, George Reznor of Mercer; T.P. McKinney of Petersburg, Ohio and Edward M. McKinney who is in Alaska. She left 24 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. For over a half century she was a member of the 2nd Presbyterian Church, Mercer. Interment Mercer Cemetary.
