Simon Nichols was born in Meadville about 1838. He served in the same unit as his brother, John Wesley Nichols.

Simon Nichols married Elizabeth Gehr 26 Jan 1860, Summit Twp., Crawford co., daughter of Peter Gehr and Lydia Litwiler. She was b. abt. 1832, PA; died 15 June 1891, Omaha, Nebraska. Buried in John Wesley Nichols family plot. They had a son Captain (sic - his name, not a title) Lincoln Nichols. Captain Lincoln Nichols was a pupil in Pennsylvania Soldiers Orphan School in Titusville in 1870. He went to Nebraska with his mother. 

Simon Nichols died 17 Dec 1864 at the Executive Mansion in Washington, DC.  His burial location is unknown.  All that is known is "Body released to friends for burial."  No other record.
