Lucy E. Carberry

OBITUARY - Lawrenceburgh Register, Thursday, Sept. 1, 1887

Lucy E. Carberry was born in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, Oct 15th, 1802 and
died at the residence of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Grubbs,
near Bright, Dearborn County, Indiana, August 19th, 1887. She came with her
parents to this country in 1805, where the greater part of her life was
passed.

She was married August 20, 1818 to Robert McCracken, who died May 18th,
1870. To them was born a large family, consisting of seven sons and four
daughters of whom seven are still living. To these were added sixty-three
grandchildren and forty-two great grandchildren. Deceased was one of the
earliest pioneers of the Tanner's Creek Valley, and assisted in
transforming
what was then a dense wildnerness, the abode of savages and wild beasts, to
beautiful farms, the home of civilization and culture. Her's was a life of
earnest, self-forgetting toil, and useful in a high degree. Her hands ceased
their loving ministrations to the comfort of others only when folded in
death.

She united with the M.E. Church in early life, and was eminently faithful to
all the duties and requirements of that relation. Shortly before death she
said that she was waiting and willing to go where her Savior called. She
lived a life of faith, and, dying, bequethed to children and friends a rich
heritage--the inspiration afforded by a true and noble life.

The funeral services were held at the M. E. Church at Bright, August 21st,
conducted by Rev. Jesse Miller, and the remains were placed in the vault
until the following Tuesday when they were interred in the new cemetery.

Per the death certificate filed in Dearborn County, Indiana, Lucy died of
"Neuralgia of the Stomach".
