							Yockey, Charles Raymond
Charles Raymond YOCKEY was born in Sugarcreek township,
December 20, 1889, and departed this life March 7, 1918,
aged 28 years, 2 months, and 15 days. He was a son of
Mr. and Mrs. S. P. YOCKEY, who survive him, as do also
one brother, Milford, and two sisters, Mrs. Bertha COCHRAN
and Annie ROSENBERGER. He was reared in the home of
Mr. and Mrs. Frank KEPPLE, who with their two sons,
Edward and Plummer, survive him. He was baptized
in infancy and in his early youth was received into
full membership of the White Reformed church, and remained
a faithful member of the same until his death. He was
at one time superintendent and at various times a teacher
in the Sunday School. He was instrumental in organizing
the Golden Bible Class in which he always manifested
a lively interest. He passed through the several
grades of the public school after which he taught the
Steele District School. He then attended the Slippery
Rock State Normal School, from which he graduated with
honors in 1910. Again he taught the Steele District
School for a season after which he entered Franklin
and Marshall College, at Lancaster, Pa., from which
he graduated with honors in 1915. In Septerber, 1915,
he entered The Central Theological Seminary of the Reformed
church at Dayton, Ohio, from which he would have graduated
in May 2nd of the present year, if his life had been
spared. On February 18th, he was siezed with acute
appendicitis for which it was manifesty necessary to
operate the same day. From this he was recovering rapidly,
but on the day following the operation he contracted
pneumonia which held him in its grasp for a little more
than two weeks. Despite the best efforts of a skillful
nurse and two able physicians and a well equipped hospital
in Dayton, Ohio, he was called out of this life in the
early morning of March 7th. Mr. Plummer KEPPLE, foster
brother to Mr. YOCKEY, was with him during the week
preceding his death and returned with the body of the
deceased on Friday morning. Rev. Herry J. Christman,
President of the Central Theological Seminary accompanied
Mr. KEPPLE on his return home in order to personally
express to the greif stricken relatives the sincere
sympathy of the professor and students of the Theological
Seminary, and to bear testimony to the high regard in
which the deceased was held in the Institution and in
the Reformed churches in which he had become acquainted.
The deceased was a member of the I. O. O. F. Lodge at
Brady's Bend. The life and character of the deceased
are well known in this community. He was preparing to
enter upon the work of the Gospel ministry and to render
thus a most important service in the churches. He was
already known as a preacher of and splendid promise.
To this end he had given himself in faithful preparation
for a period of some seven years. Disappointment and
sorrow fill the hearts of his many friends by reason
of his early departure, but we bow revently before our
Heavenly Father and say, "Thy will be done".
Mr. YOCKEY was prepared to live as well as to die. The
funeral services were held on Sunday morning, March
							10, 1918, at 11 o'clock, at the St. Paul's Reformed
church in Sugarcreek township. Interment was in the
adjoining cemetery. The I. O. O. F. Lodge attended in
a body to pay their last tribute of respect to their
							departed brother.
