VAN ARSDALE - COOK
When the former Miss Hilda Lila COOK became the bride of William E. VAN ARSDALE, Jr., at a nuptial ceremony at four-thirty o'clockSaturday afternoon, June 17, 1939, in the First United Presbyterian church, she was given in marriage by her grandfather Mr. Milton H. LAROS of
Allentown.
The bride is the daughter of Mrs. William G. COOK and the late Dr. COOK of West Lincoln avenue. Her husband is the son of Mr. and Mrs. William E. VAN ARSDALE of Trenton, N. J.
Before a fern-banked altar, the service was read by the Rev. John M. CAMERON of Lisbon, Ohio, an uncle of the bride, assisted by the church pastor, Dr. S. A.
McCOLLAM.
A half-hour organ recital preceding the service was played by Mrs. Gladys S. KLABER of Mt. Lebanon.
The bride wore a gown of ivory satin designed with sweetheart neckline. Small sprigs of lilies of the valley were attached to the full length of her tulle veil, which fell from a head-dress of lilies of the valley. She carried a bouquet of the same flowers centered with white orchids.
Mrs. William J. BAILIE, Jr., of Kew Gardens, L.I., was matron of honor. Miss Dorothy J. CAMERON of Lisbon, Ohio, cousin of the bride, was maid of honor. The bridesmaids were Miss Joyce and Miss Barbara HORLACHER of Allentown, also cousins. The flower girls were Judith Celia LAROS of Detroit and Lois Ann MOYER of Allentown.
All the attendants wore gowns of white starched net over taffeta. Their small flower hats were of varied hued pansies shading from deep purple through gold to pale yellow. Long yellow velvet streamers were draped from their small hats. Bouquets of the same shades of pansies were arranged on muffs of white lace and net. The flower girls baskets were filled with rose petals.
Mr. Mel S. MOORHEAD, Jr., served as bestman and ushering were Mr. G. COOK, brothers of the bride, Mr. William B. MOORHEAD, and Mr. Carl F. SOMMERS, the latter of Trenton, N. J.
The brides mother chose a gown of mauve chiffon with white accessories and the bridegroom's mother chose pink chiffon.
A reception in the bride's home followed the ceremony. After a Southern motor trip the couple will be at home at 2300 Princeton, Rd. Trenton, N. J.
Out-of-town guests included Mr. and Mrs. Milton H. LAROS, Mrs. Jacob L. FARR, Mrs. Reuben S. MOYER, Mrs. Robert R. HORLACHER, Mrs. Penrose SCHNURMAN and Mrs. Alice MARSTELLAR, all of Allentown, Mr. and Mrs. Henry G. LAROS of Detroit, Mich., Mrs. John M. CAMERON, Miss Dorothy FELTON, and Mr. Robert CAMERON of Lisbon, Ohio, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth CAMPBELL of Bridgeville, Mr. and Mrs. Wendell SHOAFF of Vandergrift, Mrs. M. J. MONTGOMERY and Miss Patricia MONTGOMERY of Pitcairn, Mr. and Mrs. L. M. SANDSTON and Mr. William SANDSTON of Mt. Lebanon, Miss Gene SWING of Bowling GREEN, Va., Mrs. F. BROWN - VANCE
[ VANCE is the Groom. ]
The wedding of Miss Jessie BROWN of Avella to James E. VANCE of
Independence took place in the parlors of the Fort Pitt hotel [sic],
Pittsburgh, Wednesday afternoon, October 10, 1917, at four o'clock. The ceremony was performed
by the Rev. B. F. HEANEY of Ebensburg, a former pastor of the Avella and
Independence Presbyterian churches. Following the ceremony Mr. and Mrs.
VANCE left for an Eastern wedding trip which includes New York,
Philadelphia, and other Eastern cities. They expect to be gone two
weeks. Mr. VANCE is a prosperous farmer of Independence township and is
well known. Mrs. VANCE is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph BROWN of
Avella and a sister of Mr. D. C. BROWN of McDonald [Pa] and she is well
known here where she has visited frequently. They will reside at
the VANCE home.
