RUTHERFORD - GIFFIN
A great Wedding at the Home of Mr. J. R. GLADDEN in Cecil. Some Details as to the supper and numerous presents.
On the evening of Wednesday, June 14th, in the response to invitations came about one hundred and fifty guests to the home of Mr. J. R. GLADDEN to witness the marriage of their niece, Miss Sadie C.
GIFFIN, to Dr. J. Frank RUTHERFORD, of Ridgeway, Pa.
The house presented a gala appearance, flowers abounding everywhere, in parlor, dining room and halls. Seven o'clock was the hour appointed for the ceremony, and at that hour to the strains of the bridal chorus from Lohengrin the wedding party slowly descended the stairs. First came the attendants, Miss Mary GLADDEN, cousin to the bride, and Mr. Samuel RUTHERFORD. Miss GLADDEN wore a handsome dress of gray cloth and gray satin. Following these came the bride and groom. Miss GIFFIN looked lovely in a rich, heavy silk of palest rose color, trimmed in beautiful lace. They were met on entering the parlor by Dr. CATHCART, of Cincinnati, who performed the brief but impressive ceremony which united them for life. then came the congratulations and good wishes of the assembled friends, after which the guests sought the dining room, where a most tempting and excellent suppet
[sic] was served.
Miss GIFFIN has made her home with her uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. GLADDEN, since her mother's death some years ago. She is a young lady whom McDonald society will be sorry to lose, as her warm-hearted generous nature and sweet, winning manner made her a universal favorite. Dr. RUTHERFORD, who is a native of West Virginia, has been located at Ridgeway for about a year, where he has very many warm
friends. Mr. and Mrs. RUTHERFORD left on the following day for his Virginia home, where they will remain for a short time, the Doctor's professional duties limiting his absence.
Following is a list of presents received:
Mr. and Mrs. MORGAN, ebony clock; A. J. MOORE and family, clock; Miss SPHAR and Miss EAKIN, onyx banquet lamp; Wm. GIFFIN, pair vases; Mr. and Mrs. J. F.
