James McDOWELL and Margaret MURDOCK surprised their friends this week by announcing that they had been married in Steubenville, O., three months ago.

Miss Myrtle Neil, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Leonard NEIL of R.D. 1, Hickory, became the bride of John H.
McDOWELL, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. John H. McDOWELL, also of R.D. 1, Hickory, at a pretty ceremony at 11 o'clock Christmas morning in the residence of the officiating minister, the Rev. Cornelius S. THOMAS, at Hickory. The bride wore a dress of blue velvet and carried a corsage of talisman roses. The bride's cousin, Miss Jeannette
McILVAINE, was bridesmaid. Miss McELVAINE wore an earth-brown dress and carried a corsage of gardenias. Leman McCARRELL was the best man. Following the ceremony, a reception was held in the bride's home and a Christmas dinner served at noon by the bride's parents. The dinner guests included besides the bride and bridegroom and their attendants, Mr. and Mrs. William NEIL and children of Washington, Mrs. Roy CARLISLE of Houston, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond THOMAS and son Robert, and Betty and Lenore NEIL.
