Engagement announcement for William E. LYKE to Helen R. DAVIDSON

* See second article below

From the The McDonald, PA Outlook newspaper of 12 July 1928, page unknown:

Engagement Announced.
[ LYKE - DAVIDSON ]

One of the pleasing social events in honor of Mrs. J. Alvan MARQUIS, of Hickory, a recent bride, was a kitchen shower Saturday afternoon, June 23, in the home of Miss Mabel RYBURN, Washington R. D. 1, the guest list including only the girl members of the 1924 class of the Hickory Vocational school, of which the honor guest and hostess were members, together with a few close friends. Hemming tea towels and guessing contests furnished entertainment, after which Miss Kathryn McDOWELL, dressed as a messenger boy, presented Mrs. MARQUIS with a large clothes basket filled with novel and useful gifts for the kitchen. The guests were then invited to the dining room, which was decorated in blue and white, the class colors, and a two-course luncheon was served. At the close of the luncheon, the hostess distributed balloons, which, when blown up and burst, were found to contain tiny booklets revealing the engagement of Miss Helen R. DAVIDSON of Rea and William E. LYKE of McDonald. The engagement will terminate in an August wedding. Miss DAVIDSON, who is also a member of the class of 1924 at Hickory, has been a teacher in the Avella schools for several years. Covers were laid for 14 at the honor guest's table which was centered with orange blossoms. The hostess was assisted by Mrs. Robert CHAPMAN of Arden Mines and Mrs. J. T. RYBURN.
