HOLMES - SHAFFER
Miss Margaret E. SHAFFER, daughter of the late George W. SHAFFER of Midway, and Pfc. James C. HOLMES, stationed at Camp Ellis, Ill., son of J.C. HOLMES and the late Mrs. J.C. HOLMES of Midway, were united in marriage Saturday evening, November 6, 1943, in the Community church, Table Grove, Ill. The Rev. Hubert A. BAHR performed the single ring ceremony. Fall flowers and many colorful baskets of chrysanthemums and ferns were arranged at the altar and provided an effective background for a
candlelit service. The bridal party entered the church to the strains of Lohengrin's wedding march played by Mrs.
H. A. BAHR and left the church as the organ softly played "I Love You Truly."
The bride wore a dress of autumn brown crepe with gold accessories and a corsage of yellow, white, and bronze baby mums. She also wore the traditional "something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue." The maid of honor, Miss Norma HOWARD of Table Grove, wore a moss green suit with British tan, accessories and a corsage of yellow and bronze baby mums. Pvt. Jack GILLESPIE of California served as
bestman.
Following the ceremony, a reception was held in the BAHR home. A tiered wedding cake, topped with a miniature bride and bridegroom, formed the table centerpiece.
Both Private First Class and Mrs. HOLMES are graduates of Midway high school. Mrs. HOLMES was a defense worker in Carnegie before going to Illinois. She will reside in Table Grove for the present.
