Marriage notice for Chauncy GRIER to Ethel Allender, no date, in 9-11-1908 paper From the McDonald, PA Record newspaper of Sept. 11, 1908, page unknown:

Married at Wellsburg

[ GRIER - ALLENDER ]

Chauncey GRIER, lineman for the Chartiers Telephone Company, and Miss Ethel ALLENDER of Oakdale, were married at Wellsburg, W.Va., Thursday of last week.

Miss ALLENDER left her home Thursday morning, giving the impression to some of her friends that she was going on a visit. She spoke of a village named Independence at nothing was thought of her departure until her father, T.H. ALLENDER, received a long distance telephone call from Wellsburg, W.Va. She and GRIER had boarded a morning train for Wellsburg, and, when they applied for a marriage license, the clerk of courts decided to call up her father. The latter, after holding the telephone for a minute, relented and the license was granted.

The couple went at once to the parsonage of the Rev. Mr. HOLMES, of the Wellsburg Presbyterian Church, where they were married. They returned home in the afternoon. The bride is a member of the Oakdale Presbyterian Church and was employed by the Chartiers Telephone Company as an operator at Oakdale.

Mr. GRIER formerly resided at Chambersburg. Since his residence in McDonald he has made many friends by his pleasing manner. As the phone company's dissipater of trouble he is quite a success and the patrons who have had occasion to require his services like him because of his suavity and unruffled temperament.
