GLADDEN - DRAKE Wedding
[ DRAKE is the Groom. ]
On Wednesday evening at 6:30 o'clock occurred the wedding of Miss
Anna Mary GLADDEN to Mr. Hiram B. DRAKE. The ceremony was
performed at the GLADDEN home on West Lincoln avenue and the house was
beautifully decorated in pink and white roses and southern
smilax.? The large doors between the hall and parlor were arched
over with the green foliage and under the the bridal party passed to
their positions in front of the rose banked mantel where the officiating
minister, Dr. W. D. IRONS, awaited them. As the strains of the
Lohengrin bridal chorus were heard, little Miss Elizabeth Annie RIDALL,
a niece of the bride, dressed in a wee white frock with pink ribbons,
walked in scattering flowers from the basket she carried. She was
immediately followed by the bridal pair and with the pretty ring
ceremony, and to the accompaniment of "Oh Promise Me" by the
orchestra, the clergyman pronounced them man and wife. After the greetings of
the bride's father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Richard GLADDEN, of her
sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. S. H. RIDALL, of her brother
Frank GLADDEN and of the bridegroom's brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and
Mrs. S. H. DRAKE of Mercer, Pa., the newly married pair were greeted by
about fifty friends. The wedding dinner was then announced and the bride
and groom led the way to the dining room where the bride's table was
laid with covers for ten and a great mound of pink roses in the
centre. The guests were seated at small tables lighted with pink
shaded candles set throughout the large hall, parlor, library and music
room. After dinner the wedding party made ready for their journey,
the bride laying aside her beautiful wedding gown of white marquisette
over white lace [comma] for a going away gown of blue broad cloth with
hat and veil in tones of blue.
The bride's bouquet flung from the stair landing was caught by Miss
Hazel SPEER, and amid a shower of rice and confetti the bride and groom
left on the 8:44 train for a honeymoon in the East, later to take up
their residence in New York. Out-of-town guests were Mr. and Mrs.
J. H. DRAKE of Mercer, Pa., Mrs. Frank GLADDEN DICKINSON of Cleveland,
Ohio, Mrs. Belle BLACKBURN of Steubenville, Ohio, Mrs. Iantha KENNEDY
and Mr. and Mrs. Ben ALLWARD of West Pittsburg (sic), Miss PRITCHARD of
Pittsburg (sic), Miss ROBINSON of Turtle Creek and Mr. and Mrs. McCOY of
Gradatim.
