COOK - SCHWING

Miss Gene SCHWING, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward SCHWING of Warren, Pa., and Mr. William Cook, son of Mrs. William G. COOK of 514 West Lincoln avenue, McDonald, were united in marriage at 2:30 o'clock Saturday afternoon, October 5, 1940, in the Glenville Christian church, Cleveland, Ohio. The pastor, the Rev. Mr. BUTCHARD, performed the ceremony. The church was beautifully decorated with fall flowers, yellow and copper chrysanthemums and pompoms predominating.

The bride wore a frock of copper-colored velvet with brown accessories and a small beaver hat, with matching beaver repeated on the belt. Her corsage was of Pom-poms. Her only attendant was her sister, Miss Ruth SCHWING, a student at Oberlin college, Oberlin, Ohio, who wore an ensemble of soldier blue and a corsage of pom-poms. Mr. Nathan COOK of Baltimore, Md., served as his brother's bestman.

Following the ceremony, a reception was held in the church parlors, with twenty-five guests in attendance from Cleveland, Pittsburgh, and Warren.  The bridegroom's mother and Miss Lois WILEY were present from McDonald.

The young couple took an Eastern trip and are now at home in Warren. For traveling, the bride chose a rust suit, combining her beaver hat and brown accessories. 

Mrs. COOK is a graduate of the Warren high school and of the LEWIS school in Washington, 
D. C., and attended Westminster college, New Wilmington. Mr. COOK is a graduate of the LEWIS school in Washington, D. C., and attended Pennsylvania State college.

Miss Hazel CARTER, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. V. CARTER of Burgettstown, and Leonard COOKE, son of R. L. COOKE of Rea, were united in marriage  at 7:50 p.m. Thursday, October 10, 1940, in the Cross Creek Presbyterian church, by the pastor, the Rev. D. S. VANCE. Mr. and Mrs. W. L. SCOTT of Canonsburg were the attendants. Mrs. Viola JOHNSTON played "For Remembrance."

Mrs. COOKE, teacher in the Cross Creek township schools, is a graduate of Avella high school and Kent State Teachers college, Ohio. She is a sister of Mrs. Arthur BELL of Valley street and Mrs. Wayne MCCULLOUGH of Arabella street, McDonald. Mr. COOKE is a graduate of Hickory high school and is engaged in farming. They will reside near Rea.

A wedding of interest to the bridegroom's friends in and about Hickory occurred at Killbuck, Ohio, on March 6, 1924, when Marshall C. COOPER and Helen Lucy BUKER were united in marriage at the bride's home. Mrs. COOPER, a daughter of Dr. and Mrs. D. H. BUKER of Killbuck, is [an] instructor in biology at the Kent State Normal school. Mr. COOPER, a son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Albert COOPER of Hickory, is with the Dr. Davey Tree Surgery corporation and is now located in the Pittsburgh district.

A very pretty double wedding took place in the W. H. COOPER home in Imperial at eight o'clock Thursday evening, October 7, 1926, when Miss Caroline Louis COOPER, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. COOPER, became the bride of Robert GOWER, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry GOWER of Latrobe, and Miss Mae SHOUP, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. W. SHOUP of the Campbell's Run road, became the bride of Robert COOPER of Imperial. The Rev. H. S. SHIMP, pastor of the Montour Presbyterian church, performed the ceremony. Miss SHOUP and Mr. COOPER were married first, and Miss COOPER man. Mr. and Mrs. COOPER were the attendants for Miss COOPER and Mr. GOWER. Miss COOPER wore a gown of midnight blue canton crepe and carried a bouquet of bride's roses and valley lilies. Miss SHOUP wore a gown of wild honey over pink georgette and carried a bouquet of bride's roses and valley lilies. A dinner and reception followed the ceremony. Covers for fourteen were laid at the bride's table, the centerpiece of which was a pot of dahlias and roses. The COOPER home was tastefully decorated with the season's flowers. Mr. and Mrs. COOPER will reside in the Leach house in Imperial. Mr. and Mrs. GOWER will reside in Greensburg, where Mr. GOWER is employed by the Peoples Natural Gas company.
