CHESNIK - VERCEK

Miss Dorothy Ruth VERCEK, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph J. VERCEK of Strabane [Pa], and Mr. Joseph L. CHESNIK, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank CHESNIK, also of Strabane [Pa], were united in marriage with nuptial high mass at nine o'clock Saturday morning, June 15, 1940, in St. Patrick's Roman Catholic church, Canonsburg [Pa], the pastor, the Rev. Fr. J. Edward ISTOCIN, performing the ring ceremony. The bride's gown was of white chiffon with a full flared skirt, a shirred bodice, and short puffed sleeves. The rounded neckline was trimmed with white velvet orange blossoms. Her veil was draped from a coronet embroidered with white seed pearls. It ended in three points. Elbow-length gloves of white silk jersey completed her ensemble. Her arm bouquet was of calla lilies. The matron of honor and sister of the bride Mrs. Frank O'KLESSON, wore a pale blue organza gown. Her arm bouquet of pink roses was tied with blue ribbon. Her headdress was a band of pink moire flowers covered with a circular shoulder-length veil of pink net thrown back over the headband. The bridesmaids, Miss Justine CHESNIK, sister of the bridegroom, and Miss Nada SABEC, appeared in gowns of yellow organza with aquamarine accessories. Their headdress of aquamarine was similar to that of the matron of honor. Their arm bouquets were of yellow roses tied with aquamarine ribbons. The gowns of the bride's attendants were styled alike, with shirred bodices, flaring skirts, short puffed sleeves, and rounded necklines. Mr. Frank O'KLESSON served as bestman and Mr. Lawrence KRESS and Frank CHESNIK, Jr., brothers of the bridegroom were ushers. Mrs. CHESNIK is a granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank VELPER, Sr., of Sturgeon [Pa], and a niece of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph MASSARO, Mr. and Mrs. Mike VELPER, and Mr. and Mrs. Frank VELPER, Jr., of Sturgeon [Pa], and Mr. and Mrs. Leo RITTER of Treveskyn [Pa]. A wedding breakfast in the bride's home followed the ceremony. Covers were laid for 65 with 15 at the bride's table. The wedding reception was held in the evening at the St. Jerome's home, Strabane [Pa]. There were approximately 300 guests from Cleveland [Oh], Pittsburgh, Cuddy, Sturgeon, Muse, Bishop, Canonsburg, Houston, Washington and Strabane [all in Pa]. The young couple received many gifts. They will reside in Chartiers street, Strabane [Pa].

Miss Eleanor Anne DAVIS of Pittsburgh, daughter of Mrs. G. DAVIS of Trenton, J.M., and Mr. Ralph S. CHESS, son of Charles CHESS of Mt. Oliver, Pittsburgh, were united in marriage at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, November 11, 1939, in St. Andrew's Lutheran church, Pittsburgh, the Rev. H. P. ECKHARDT officiating.

The bride wore burgundy velvet with matching accessories and a corsage of orchids. Miss Marian DAVIS, sister of the bride and maid of honor, wore blue velvet with wine accessories and a corsage of gardenias and yellow roses. Mr. Calvin CHESS, brother of the bride-groom, served as bestman.

After a wedding trip the young couple will reside in Carrick. Mrs. Chess is a graduate of Cecil high school. Both she and her husband are employed by the West Penn Power Co.
