Robinson's Run Church United Presbyterian Church Dedicates New Building 1904
Feb. 6, 1904 McDonald PA Outlook

From the McDonald PA Outlook,
Feb. 6, 1904, page unknown:
Robinson Run U. P. Church Dedicated Last Sunday
The most notable event of the past week in our little city has been the
dedication of the new church building of the Robinson Run United
Presbyterian congregation on East Lincoln avenue which took place on last
Sabbath day, and has been followed by services each evening during this week
by ministers invited from other places. The weather on last Sabbath was all
that could be desired for a winter day, and the edifice was crowded to the
doors at all the services--morning, afternoon and night. The crowd was
estimated from 1,000 to 1,200 people, the other churches having dispensed
with services that day in order that all who wished might have the
opportunity to attend the event which means so much to the organization
moving from the "Hill".
The new beautiful building is quite an ornament, indeed, to our town. Its
tower being plainly visible from many parts of the town, and the building
itself is admirably well adapted to the purpose for which it is built. The
cost of building and site, as announced by Dr. ENGLISH, the pastor, on
Sabbath being $23,000.
The dedicatory sermon was preached by Rev. Dr. Thomas PARK, D. D.,
Allegheny, Pa., and was an exceedingly fine and appropriate one, and was
well appreciated by the large audience. After the sermon, Dr. ENGLISH made
the dedicatory pray in the absence of Dr. A. R. ANDERSON, of Venice, who
could not be present. In the afternoon the fraternal meeting was held when
short addresses were given by the neighboring pastors. The following
reverent gentlemen taking part: Rev. LLOYD, of the M. E. church, Rev.
JORDAN, of the Presbyterian church, Rev. Dr. IRONS, of the U. P. church,
Rev. JAMISON, of the U. P. church, Noblestown. Then all brought word of
cheer and encouragement to the congregation and bid them welcome to our
midst.
In the evening Dr. WALLACE, of Pittsburg, Pa., preached, and again the house
was filled to the doors, and he held the attention of the people throughout.
The thank of the church going public (sic) are due to Dr. ENGLISH for giving
them an opportunity to hear such an array of preachers as have been here.
The one who seems to have struck the popular chord is the Rev. Dr. TEMPLE,
of the First U. P. church, of Washington, Pa., who preached on Tuesday
night. Nearly all who heard home on that evening being enthusiastic in their
praise of him and his sermon. He was certainly fine. It is to be hoped that
the work of the old organization that labored so long on the hill is now
only really beginning and that the congregation in the future will be
greater and grander and its victories be many.
*This congregation is no longer in existence. The building was sold first to
the Masonic Order then it was again sold made into apartments.
