Midway PA High School 1957 Photo

Three generations graduated from Midway high school

From the McDonald-Outlook newspaper, May 30, 1957, page unknown:

Graduation time this year has been especially interesting to Mrs. Estella GEHRKE of North avenue Midway.

The graduation of her grandson, Thomas Eddy WILLIAMSON, marks the third generation of her family to have graduated from Midway high school.

In May, 1912, Mrs. GEHRK, then Estella SLEETH, was graduated. The high school at that time was located in the old red school building on the north side of Midway, near the Center U. P. church. Commencement exercises were held in the church.

In May, 1934, her daughter, Sarah Ida SAWHILL (WILLIAMSON) was graduated. The high school was then located in what is now known as the ROCHER apartments. This was the first class to old commencement exercises in the present high school building.

Her grandson, Thomas Eddy WILLIAMSON, was graduated on Monday evening, making the third generation from Midway high.
