90th Birthday Celebration for A. D. WHITE

A. D. WHITE of Hickory celebrated his 90th birthday on Saturday, Nov. 10, with an open house, hosted by his family, at the Hickory United Presbyterian Church.
He was born Nov. 10, 1894*, in Smith Township, a son of the late William G. and Elizabeth LYLE WHITE.
On June 6, 1919, he married Laura A. COOPER, who died Sept. 15, 1984. They had celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 1979, and they are the parents of ten children: Alvin D. WHITE, Jr., of El Paso, Texas; Elizabeth WHITE BANAY of Evans City; Albert W. WHITE of Bronxville, New York; Mrs. Tom (Mary) CROZIER of Tallahassee, Florida; John M. WHITE and Richard L. WHITE of Hickory; Robert W. WHITE and Mrs. Harry (Margaret) MCCANCE of Baltimore, Maryland; Mrs. Donald (Marjorie) SMITH of Janesville, Wisconsin; and Willard C. WHITE of Washington.
WHITE worked in northwestern Washington County schools, retiring in 1959 as Elementary Supervisor of the Avella Joint School District.
Since his retirement, he has traveled extensively, written several books on local history and pursued many personal interests.
He was honored last summer at the 200th anniversary celebration of the LYLE Family of Washington County for his 50 years of service as the family historian.
