90th Birthday Celebration of Mr. Anton KUIN
the father of Mrs. William D. HALL

Mr. Anton KUIN, the father of Mrs. William D. HALL of Washington avenue, was ninety years old last Friday, St. Valentine’s Day. The Outlook of February 8 states he was born near old Amsterdam by the Zuyder Zee, and continues: “Nine years did Mr. Anton KUIN follow the flag of the Netherlands around and around the world, visiting and revisiting the East Indian possessions of this enterprising people. After that he came to Philadelphia, working at his trade of cabinet maker; then to Cincinnati, and lastly to Steubenville, where after working for some thirty or forty years at this trade, he spends his declining years with his daughter, Mrs. Wm. D. HALL, a Hale and hearty Hollander of ninety, however is not an old man like people of other races at that age. This hardy old seafaring people carry their years easily. Mr. KUIN is abroad on the streets, zero or no zero, stepping briskly along, as quickly and spry as an American of half his age, with his ever companions, his pipe and his good walking stick. He is a Hollander of the old school, one of the race whose ships were feared on every sea, and whose names are found on the headstones in every ancient sailor’s graveyard around the world. The Dutch have always been a magnificent people.”
