Fifty-Fifth Wedding Anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. Joseph A. MATCHETT of R. D. 1, Bulger, observed their 55th wedding anniversary on Saturday, July 3. Mr. MATCHETT is 77 years old. Mrs. MATCHETT, 75, is the former Blanch STROUSS. The early years of their married life were spent in Clinton, Allegheny county. In 1902 they moved to their present home. On July 4 the family gathered in the home to celebrate the occasion. A three-tier wedding cake, adorned by a miniature bride and groom formed the table center piece. The MATCHETTS have one daughter and three sons. Twenty one guests make up the four generations present. Besides the honor guests, places were laid for the John D. BAMFORDs of Midway and daughter Eleanor of Belle Vernon, Mrs. William COLE and son Bobby, of Connellsville, Dorothy, Esther and Shirley COLE of Midway, the Neal MATCHETTS, sons Dale and Wayne, and daughter Naomi, the Joseph MATCHETTs, Jr., and the S. D. MATCHETTs, son Jay, and daughter Edith. Two grandsons in the army were unable to be present: M/Sgt. Neal MATCHETT, somewhere overseas, son of the Neal MATCHETTs, and Pvt. Dean MATCHETT, Stationed at Ft. Story, Va., son of the S. D. MATCHETTs.

Couple Celebrates 59th Anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. J. A. MATCHETT of Midway observed their 59th wedding anniversary at a family gathering Thursday, July 3, in the home of their son, Joseph A. MATCHETT, Jr., Prospect street, Midway. Refreshments were served by Mrs. MATCHETT, Jr., at 9:30 p.m., the hour at which the honor couple was married 59 years ago. Present were Mr. and Mrs. John BAMFORD and daughters Miss Eleanor, Miss Dorothy, Miss Shirley, and Miss Esther of near Midway; Mr. and Mrs. Neal S. MATCHETT and son Wayne of Candor, and Miss Mary and Miss Alpha CHISHOLM of Clinton. Mr. and Mrs. S. D. MATCHETT and daughter Miss Edith of Jeanette were unable to attend the celebration but spent the weekend with their parents.

Mrs. MATCHETT, the former Blanche STROUSS, was born May 14, 1868, six miles west of Clinton. Mr. MATCHETT was born May 14, 1866 in Robinson township, Washington county. They were married July 3, 1888 in the Sharon Presbyterian church at Carnot by the Rev. John M. MERCER. From the time of their marriage they lived in Clinton until 1901 when they moved to their home farm in Robinson township where Mr. MATCHETT followed farming until his retirement in 1945 when he and Mrs. MATCHETT moved to Midway.

Mr. and Mrs. MATCHETT have three sons, Neal S. MATCHETT of Candor, Samuel D. MATCHETT of Jeanette, and Joseph A. MATCHETT of Midway and one daughter, Zula, the wife of John D. BAMFORD, of near Midway. There are 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A daughter, Miss Eleanor, died in 1919 at the age of 25 years.
Always active in community affairs, Mr. MATCHETT formerly served as a road supervisor in Robinson and Findlay townships and was treasurer of the Dairyman's Cooperative Sales Association for 17 years. He is one of the organizers of the Midway Mutual Telephone Co, of which he has been manager and treasurer since 1908. He is also vice president of the Oakdale Mutual Fire Insurance Co., Oakdale.
