J. J. Charlier 1915, Belgium Coal Miner to McDonald PA

From the McDonald PA Record-Outlook newspaper, Oct 2 1915, page unknown: J. J. Charlier

Caption: J. J. Charlier, the new president of the Midway National Bank, is a resident of McDonald. He was born in Belgium in September of 1868 and came to America with his parents in 1879. He worked with his father in the mines in Belgium and also in America. After work he studied and learned and soon a larger sphere opened to him.

Leaving the mine he entered the employ of T. B. ROBBINS for whom he worked for some time, later he entered the employ of Mr. J. D. SAUTERS who ran a general store in connection with his mining interest and still later he entered into the grocery business for himself at McDonald, this he continued in fro some time selling out to accept a position as bookkeeper for the McDonald Savings and Trust Co. in 1905, in which capacity he served for some time. Mr. CHARLIER was elected treasurer of this institution which position he held for some years, resigning to accept the position of cashier of the Midway National Bank to which he had been elected by the board of directors of that institution. Thus step by step he has climbed until he has been selected as the head of this bank. In November 1890 Mr. CHARLIER was married to Miss Emma EGBERT. Three children have been born to Mr. and Mrs. CHARLIER, Raymond, Earl and Evaline. They are members of the First United Presbyterian church of this place. He is identified with both the Masons and the Odd Fellows, a member of Garfield Lodge No. 604, F. & A. M. and
McDonald Lodge No. 605 Odd Fellows both at McDonald. In politics Mr. Charlier is a Republican.
