Pitt Hotel Building from the late 1800S, McDonald PA
From Sept 27, 1956 Record-Outlook, McDonald PA
Caption Title on this Black and White Photo Reads:
"An Architect's Drawing of the Old Pitt Hotel in the Early 1900
Period."
Webmaster's description of the drawing:
The drawing shows the ground level plus 2 floors above, with 2
balcony porches surrounded by white railing and lattice work. Two
white square column-supports go from the second floor to the porch
roof. Rather than being square, rectangular, or semi-circle, the
porches appear to be three-sided plus two walls wall of the building
(total 5 sides); the porches are built into a corner of the
building. A white staircase leads from the ground level sidewalk
to the first porch.
The building shows several large picture windows on the middle level,
with smaller windows throughout the second and third floors. The
middle floor has one window on one side of the building that has a round
top (like in churches), and has a one or two person porch outside the
window, protected by a white rail. The same type of window is on
the short side of the building.
The ground level has 3 picture-type windows that begin at the
sidewalk; the rest of the long side and the shorter side of the building
has double-side-by-side smaller windows.
The corners of the building from street level to roof eaves show
intricate layered brick-work. A color pattern of (probably red?)
and white is continued under the eaves. The building is covered by
2 main pitched roofs, with a flatter side roof toward the rear.
Drawing is signed but hard to read. Last name is either
McCROOKS or CROOKS.
This building still exists, just looks a little different according
to Vicki, the researcher who submitted the photo.
