Article about killing of John M. Nelson 1878
son of a farmer in Queen Anne County Maryland

1878

Article from the The Reporter newspaper, Washington Co., Pa., Oct. 18, 1879, page unknown:

"Shot in __ Theatre - Baltimore, October 15?
- John M. Nelson, the medical student, shot last night at the Front Street Theatre, died shortly after 3 o'clock this morning. He was [23 ?] years old, son of a farmer in Queen Anne county. Nelson, after attending college yesterday, went last night with a brother-in-law to witness the performance at the theatre. They were seated in the front row of seats in the orchestra circle, and at the close of the performance as the curtain fell upon the tableaux?, there was a discharge of musketry. Young Nelson was gazing silently upon the scene, and simultaneously with the report of the guns, he clasped his hand to his forehead, exclaiming, "I am shot," and sank down unconscious. A large sized minnie ball had crushed through his skull, entering the forehead just above the right eye.
