Morris Hi Banquet Brought Together A Large Company - The Morris
High alumni held its annual chicken dinner banquet in the basement of
the Upper Ten Mile Church. This was one of the most successful banquets
due to the untiring efforts of the president and secretary, Frank
Swaggard and Mrs. Paul Elliott.
There were
113 present. After the dinner the program was held in the church
auditorium.
The
speaker of the evening, Dr. A. O. Hindman, of Burgettstown, gave some
timely remarks on education. Hope Rinehart, of Amity, pleased with a
number of readings. A quartet was a special feature. Remarks were made
by a number of former teachers and pupils.
Officers for the coming year were elected at the business meeting
as follows: President, [Bruce ?] Day; secretary, Naomi Longdon;
treasurer, Raynor Parkinson.
After the program the evening was
spent in the high school auditorium where music was furnished by the
Royal Ambassadors.
Golden Link Class Has Good Meeting - Mrs. Frank Bedillion of
Laboratory, was hostess Thursday night in her home to the members of the
Golden Link Class of Laboratory Church. The business meeting was held
with Mrs. Charles Polen, president, in charge of the meeting. The word
for roll call was 'Courage'. Twenty members of the class were present
and one new name, that of Mrs. Patrick Murphy, was added to the class
roll. Following the business meeting a social hour was held, after which
a covered dish luncheon was served.
Miss Lucile Russell Graduates at Oberlin - H. Lucile Russell,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. N. N. Russell, is one of the 227 Seniors of
Oberlin College expecting to be graduated at Oberlin's 103rd annual
Commencement June 9. Miss Russell has done her major work in Oberlin in
the field of psychology and is now a candidate for the bachelor of arts
degree.
"Miss Russell participated in campus activities, being head
cheerleader for the annual basketball classic, and was a delegate of the
Oberlin Mock Convention. Miss Russell is president of her dormitory,
Pyle Inn.""Civcs Garden Group To Meet Monday Night - The
Executive Committee of Civics Garden Department Events club and all
standing committees will meet Monday night at 8 o'clock at the home of
the chairman, Mrs. C. E. Carothers, Hall and Church streets, to prepare
the program for next year.
Branch C. E. Meeting - The Washington Branch of the Christian
Endeavor Society will hold its regular meeting Monday night at 8 o'clock
in the home of Miss Harriett Mumper, at Taylorstown. All officers and
the presidents of all societies are urged to attend.
Sang on Radio Program - Verner Gayvert, student at Trinity High
School, sang yesterday morning on the KDKA program, his selection being
'Wagon Wheels'.
Touring Shenandoah Valley - Miss Marian E. Fray, Miss Mary E. Bainer, Miss Virginia Brightwell and Miss Frances I. Johnson, of
Washington, are on a motor trip through the Shanandoah Valley, expecting
to take the Skyline Drive from Shanandoah to Charlottesville, before
returning home. Is Visiting Her Son - Mrs. Edward Kaufmann, of
West Hallam avenue is visiting with her son Harold Kaufmann and wife of
Mt. Pleasant, Mich.
Returns to Michigan - Charles O'Brien who
is employed with the Leonard Oil Company at Mt. Pleasant, Mich., has
returned to his work after several days spent with friends in
Washington.
Return to Ambler - Mr. and Mrs. W. Lester Dodd of
Ambler have returned to their home after spending Memorial Day at the
homes of their parents, Mr. at the homes of their parents, Mr. avenue
[sic, one phrase repeated twice], Mr. and Mrs. Albert S. Hewitt, of 431
East Maiden street.
