Local Glances -
[The first newspaper column is typed in 1881 webpage 2.] [The
top of the second newspaper column is cut off. Here is what was
copied of the 2nd column...] Sheriff Perritte is still
confined to his room with rheumatism, but he is much improved. The
martins made their appearance at J. Ham. Stewart's in this borough, on
the 25th instant. [Note: the word martin has no capital M. Are
martins a type of bird?? or should it have been a capital M??] On
Monday last Jno. M. Watson, of North Strabane township, sold his farm of
106 acres, to Sam. McNary, at $85 an acre. Sheriff
Randolph, of Greene county, lodged a man named Davis, in the Washington
jail, on the 26th, who is charged with illegal liquor selling in Greene
county. [Note: All commas were in the original.] The
Revds. C. Ashbury, of Allegheny City, G. W. Countee and J. Henry, will
assist W. P. Ross, the pastor of St. Paul's A. M. E. church. at the
"Grand Rally" on Sabbath the 27th instant. Everybody is
invited to attend. Rev. S. W. Clark died at his residence
near Steubenville... [see Obits] An Old Document - [see
Ross page] An Exhibition - The
HORN school numbering forty-two scholars, gave an exhibition at the Mt.
Hermit [sic] Baptist church, near the W. & W. R. R., Friday evening,
March 25th. The church was packed at an early hour. The
performances were interesting and received with marked favor by the
audience. The school has made progress under their teacher, Mr. J.
Houston Weaver, the percentage of attendance being ninety-three of an
average during the school term. The Amity brass band, under their
leader, Prof. George Hayes, of Waynesburg and Ashbrook's orchestra made
choice music. The net proceeds amounted to [$29.00 ?], which will be
given to the Amity band after deducting incidental expenses. [submtted

2_st. -- The personal property of R. Stewart commanded good prices at
the sale on Thursday last. __ friend Coty must be thinking of
starting a hotel as he bought nearly all the furnishings. [rest
