Joel Frazier

Joel's parents were natives of New Jersey, Rev. Henry Frazier or Frasher (according to the family bible) born Nov 11, 1765 and Phebe/Phoebe Frazier/Frasher born Oct 4, 1764.  It appears that Henry and family came to Sharon in 1807 and settled in Shenango Twp. in 1809.  Henry was an Elder as well as a pastor of the W. Salem Township Baptist Church, Reverend of the Baptist Church of Sharon from 1825-1829 and the Reverend of the Georgetown Baptist Church (founded in 1807 in Sheakleyville) from 1826-1827 and thereafter gave monthly services.  Per the family bible, Henry died December 18, 1853 and Phebe or Phoebe died May 14, 1851.  The location of their burial is not known.

There is a great deal of discrepancy with Joel's place of birth: According to records, the family was living in N. Sewickley Twp., Beaver Co., PA at the time of Joel's birth.  However, his death certificate lists Butler County as his place of birth and his obituary gives New Jersey. In addition, Joel's first wife Anna was actually a Speir (differing from the spelling of Joel's obituary) from Greenville (W. Salem Twp.).

In 1873, Joel and his wife, Priscilla, conveyed land to the board of trustees of the Mount Pleasant Episcopal Church (later known as the New Virginia United Methodist Church) for the purchase price of $100.00.  This land deed is dated August 2, 1873.

Joel Frazier died 5 Nov 1898 and is buried in Keel Ridge Cemetery.
