(Katie) Kelly whose youngest sister, Agnes Elizabeth Kelly, married Bob Sweeney's grandfather, Peter Francis

(called Franz) SICK was born on Apr 1, 1815 in Wurzach (or Bad Wurzach), Baden, Germany. He immigrated on Jun 14, 1836 to New York City. He was
naturalized on Sep 14, 1846 in Towanda,
PA. He died on Jul 21, 1872 in Dushore, PA. Francis Charles Sick came from Germany to New
York City, arriving on June 14, 1836. (from
naturalization record).
The naturalization record
gives his name as Franz Charles Sick. He is elsewhere listed as Charles Sick
("Caroli" in wife's death record at the church). It may well be that
he changed "Karl" to "Charles" after coming to U.S. His
granddaughter, Mary Litzelman Ruddick, called him "Charles" in her
hand-written notes (1955) of the family genealogy.
Addendum:
4/24/01: From information from
the Family History Library in Salt
Lake City gathered by Fr. Paul J. McCarthy, SJ, the
town is "Wurzach" or "Bad Wurzach." Georg Sick (1776-1837) and his wife Catharina
Rothenhaeusler (1773-1845) were married in 1801 and lived in Wurzach. "In the years up to 1809 they had six
children: five died before age 2, one lived from 1807 to 1835. Presumably Franz
Karl and siblings were children of this family. It is the only Sick family from
that time in this town. What about Joseph as the father? It may well be that
Georg and Joseph were the same person, with one name being the middle name used
by the family and friends and the other name an "official"
name."

L. Taylor Memorial Award was established in 1982 in her honor at the Sullivan County High School.
It is awarded annually to the winner of the senior class essay contest.
The
Litzelmans had a distillery as did other pioneers to prevent the loss of grain
from deterioration and vermin. Early settlers made whiskey for bartering, cash,
and for medicinal purposes. Hannah delighted in describing the responsibility
and excitement of her role as a "lookout" for strangers as early as the tender age of 5 (1890) on days
when they would operate the distillery.

Bettyann Sick Goodyear, "Soon after Joe and Betty bought the farm from his
dad, six cows were killed by lightning. Joe and Betty continued to operate the
farm until 1960. Joe worked at Miller Farm Equipment, repairing machinery and
building cabins, next at Dolly Madison as head of maintenance, and finally
retired from Penn DOT as paving foreman. Joe and Betty were members of St.
Basil's Catholic Church. Joe was also a member of the Holy Name Society and 3rd
degree Knights of Columbus. Betty as a member of the Altar and Rosary Society
and was Sacristan one month each year. Betty was an excellent seamstress and
quilt maker. She loved her children and grandchildren. Betty was a warm host to
everyone Joe would bring home. Joe and Betty both had held political positions.
Joe was a great fisherman and could spin a good yarn. At his cabin, he made a Plexiglas
window on hinges. When a newcomer arrived, he loved to jam a gun out the window
on the pretense of shooting a deer. He worked many nights where the Sullivan
County Bow Festival was beginning, with his cousins Dick and Vell Holcombe
(about 1957). Together, they invented the running deer target and other events.
Joe was happy when he caught the eye of Howard Hill and was written up in an
issue of the Pennsylvania Game News."

"L." In a notebook written by his mother, Mary Ann Litzelman, his

Sweeney comments that the final "itz" indicates a
Prussian/Polish background, and thus points to Ostprussen. He has seen many
references to "Langlitz" possibly that is the name. A careful exam
of the original writing seems not to
show an "n", but then the handwriting is not in standard orthography.
It is to be noted that one of the Sick family ancestors is said to have come
from Prussia. John LITZELMAN died on Apr 29, 1925 in Cherry
Township PA. According to Thomas J. Ingham's "History
of Sullivan County" (1899) John Litzelman was married to Mary Sick on Nov.
7, 1853, . Ingham says "1853" but that is manifestly incorrect, for
John Litzelman was born in 1847. The newspaper report of the golden wedding
celebration states that it was held on Wednesday, Sept. 12, 1922. Hence, the
wedding was almost certainly on Sept. 12, 1872. John purchased the Barth
homestead, 279 acres on Gainer
Hill Rd, at the top of Gainer Hill. (In 2006 the
property was owned by Kaufman Transmission.)

his living as a barber in Towanda. His training in that field was done in the village of Gardenville,
adjacent to Buffalo, NY.

CEDERBORG was born on Apr 7, 1894.
She died on Dec 11, 1986 in Laporte,
PA. Eva Cederborg continued to live in the family
home in Towanda for some years after her husband died. She then went to a
senior residence in the north end of Towanda. Later she went to a nursing home
in Laporte, where she died in 1986. Helen Ruddick Bentley was the executor of
her estate. She had looked after Eva's
interests for some years before Eva died.
Her mother
("Mrs. Cederborg") had died a few years earlier at the age of about
102 and was buried in the Catholic cemetery in Overton, PA near New Albany.

Joseph Cook Lynch, age 78, of Dushore passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 26, 2004, at the home of his son, Vincent Lynch of 107 Simsbury Drive, Ithaca, N.Y. 14850, with his family by his side.
Joe was born in Dushore, on July 9, 1925, a son of the late Vincent Joseph and Emma Cook Lynch.
He graduated from St. Basil's High School, a member of the Class of 1943. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in October 1943 and served in the Philippines Campaign and also in Korea. He was discharged as a staff sergeant in March of 1946.
After the war he attended Wilkes-Barre Business College.
He married the former Marguerite "Peggy" Smith of Dushore, Pa., on June 21, 1947. Peggy predeceased him on April 8, 1984.
Joe was a prominent Sullivan County businessman. He owned and operated North Branch Trucking Co., in the early 1950s. He and Joseph F. Obert of Dushore purchased the former Cain's Dairy, which he operated as Dushore Dairy from 1956 until 1993. Joe bottled milk and delivered dairy products, ice cream and frozen foods, throughout Sullivan County and parts of Bradford and Lycoming counties.
He was a member of St. Basil's Catholic Church, the Dushore Lions Club, American Legion Loyalsock Post No. 996 and the Dushore Fire Company. He was a Scoutmaster for the Dushore Boy Scout troop and a continuing contributor to Troop 48. He also coached Little League baseball. He was a long-time member of the Dushore Borough Council.
After his retirement, he enjoyed gardening, fishing and hunting.
He is survived by his son, Capt. Vincent J. Lynch, U.S. Navy (ret.) and his wife, Susan, of Ithaca, N.Y.; his daughter, Mary Margaret and her husband, Col. Robert T. Guglielmi, U.S. Army at Fort Drum, N.Y.; five grandchildren, Amanda, Patrick and Sarah Lynch and Keith and Bret Guglielmi; a sister and brother-in-law: Mary and J. Bernard Lynch Litzelman of Dushore; a brother-in-law,
Joseph F. Obert of Bellefonte, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a sister, Pauline Lynch Coombs of Athens.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 1, at 10 a.m. at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore, and will be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Basil's Church, Dushore, with the Rev. Bert S. Kozen, administrator, presiding. Interment will be in the adjoining parish cemetery.
Friends may call on Wednesday, June 30, at the Homer Funeral Home from 6 to 9 p.m.
Graveside memorial services will be accorded by members of Loyalsock Post No. 996 American Legion, Dushore. Members are asked to assemble and pass in review on Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
