Rap! Rap! Sh-h-h!!
The Boys Band of Grove City High School, under the
capable and efficient leadership of Professor Edgar
Stenger Hassler of the Grove City High School faculty, has made
rapid steps towards a bright and flowery future.
The Band first came into existence in May, 1917, with Professor
H. M. B. Lehn at the helm. The
band was backed financially by the Grove City National Bank and members of
the Board of Education. Later,
through the kindness of the Grove City Commercial Club uniforms were
procured fro the aspiring young musicians.
For the past two years daily rehearsals were held
three times a week. A concert
was given, much to the enjoyment of the audience and the fattening of the
band’s funds. During the
last summer engagements were filled at Jackson Center, Harvest Home,
Stoneboro Fair, Slippery Rock Centennial, Mercer Fair, and the K. K. K.
celebration at Mercer. Professor
Lehn, who accompanied the band on these travels, was a living
skeleton and a nervous wreck after the successful closing of the fair
season.
Besides this branch of the band’s activities they
played for all football and basketball games and for community activities
such as Decoration Day and Armistice Day.
This band, the first school band to be organized in
Western Pennsylvania, is hereby and forever wished a successful and
profitable old age.
