My ggg-grandfather George McCauley (1784-1828) married
Catharine Schreyer (1792-1868) in the Salem Evangelical Lutheran
Church in Lebanon on October 14, 1810. They had 9 children. Those
known to me are: Solomon (1811-1862), Lavinia (1814-?), Phillip
(1815-1853), William (1817-?), Samuel (1819-1888), Jacob (1825-?)
and George, Jr. (1828-1888). The family lived in Lebanon Township
and after Solomon's marriage to Catharine Fisher in 1834, the
widow Catharine Schreyer McCauley lived next door to Solomon and
also near Catharine Fisher McCauley's brother, Phillip Fisher
on Seventh Street in Lebanon. Phillip Fisher was apparently
well off and had a "mansion" on Seventh Street.
My gg-grandfather Samuel McCauley left Lebanon in 1837 after
serving an apprentiship at metalworking (tinsmith?), possibly
with a relative with the last name of Spang. Samuel ended up
near St.Joseph, MO, in 1840, married and raised a family there.

Magdalena Schindler Hirschi (Sometimes spelled Hershey or Herschey) Born 12 Feb 1815, Bern, Oberdiessbach, Switzerland Daughter of Ulrich Schindler (born about 1789). Married David Hirschi, son of Christian Hirschi and Magdalena Still, on 8 June 1839. He was about 63 and she was 24 at the time of their marriage. Children: Magdalena (Maud Lena) and David. Sailed for America on the "Underwriter" , March 30, 1860. Arrived in New York, May 1, 1860. David--the husband--died and was buried at sea on April 19, 1860.
The passenger list for the "Underwriter" shows David, Magdalena, daughter Magdalena and someone named Daniel, but no son named David. Daniel, age-wise, would have been between the children Magdalena and David. I have no proof that Daniel was their son. And I don't know what happened to David. We thought he had died in Utah.
I lose Magdalena and her children in New York. Most of the people on the ship went on to Florence, Nebraska three days after arriving in New York. But I don't find Magdalena with them.
I also found a Daniel Hershey, age 19, living with a W. E. Baunner family in Londonderry Township, Lebanon County, Pennsylvania in the June 1870 census. Daniel's age matches closely with the Daniel who was with the Hirschi family on the ship "Underwriter." Daniel's place of birth was also listed as Pennsylvania. This could have been a mistake.
I have no proof that these two people are mine and would be very interested in visiting with anyone who may have information on them.

Johannes Conrad MOHR/John C. MOORE and Sussanah NAGEL were married 2 March, 1823 in Jonestown, Lebanon Co., PA. They had 9 children born in Lebanon Boro and christened in Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lebanon. The parents' names were spelled differently often, but each was known to have been the parent of each child. The children were Magdalena, born 13 Dec., 1823; Benjamin, born 13 Dec., 1824; Sarah Anne, born 14 Sep., 1826; William A., born 9 Aug., 1828; Marian, born 28 Sep., 1829; Johannes, born 6 Aug., 1831; Samuel B., born 19 Jan., 1833; Johan Conrad Jr., born 19 Sep., 1834; Daniel, born 14 Oct., 1836. After Daniel's birth, the Moore family left Lebanon County and went to Westmoreland County, PA. All but Johannes, born 6 Aug., 1831. I'd like proof that Johannes died and is buried in Lebanon.
Johannes Conrad MOHR was an immigrant but was naturalized when he was 21, which would have been in the 1818ish period. He was in the War of 1812, but listed two counties as his place of enlistment, Lebanon one and York the other. He enlisted 1814. I've not found his immigration papers and wonder if Lebanon has any records from this period.

Maria SMITH, b. 4 Nov. 1774, probably in Lancaster Co. (now Lebanon) m. Abraham YINGST about 1795. She d. 7 April 1847 in Derry Twp., Dauphin Co. Abraham YINGST was born 10 January 1775, Lebanon, Lancaster Co. and d. 13 May 1855, Derry Twp., Dauphin Co. Both are buried in the United Brethren Church cemetery at what was Derry Church, Dauphin Co. A deed from Abraham and Maria YINGST, dated 1 April 1847, conveys 70.6 acres in Derry Twp. to John YINGST (a son); one adjoining land owner in the land description is Christian SMITH, perhaps Maria's relative.
Christina SMITH of Millerstown, Annville Twp., Lebanon Co. wrote her will 17 May 1828 stating that she was the widow of John SMITH; she listed the following ten children: Catharine, wife of John BLAUCH (deceased), Mary, wfie of Abraham YINGST, John, Christina, wife of Jacob ULRICH, Elizabeth, wife of Michael MEYER, Elias, Conrad, Sarah, wife of Daniel STUMPFE, Joseph, and Nancy, wife of Rudolph BOLTZ. She named sons-in-law Abraham YINGST and Rudolph BOLTZ as executors. In a codicil dated 2 Feb. 1841, she withdrew Abraham YINGST and Rudolph BOLTZ as executors and named her son, Conrad SMITH as the executor. Lebanon Co. Index to Estates lists Conrad SMITH of Annville Twp. as the executor, with the will probated 18 August 1842; from this, it is presumed that she probably died July/August 1842.
The Lebanon Co. Index to Estates lists John SMITH of Annville Twp. as deceased and Christina-Conrad SMITH as administrators; letters of administration, inventory, and bond were filed 17 March 1818 and the account was filed 29 February 1820. So far, I have not obtained any of the documents but presume that John SMITH died intestate, probably February/March 1818.
I would like to hear from anyone that has ties to or knows about this family, especially SMITH. All responses are welcome!

I am looking for any information concerning my ancestors who lived in Annville. My greatgrandfather was Joseph Arndt. He was married to ? Eisenhauer (sp?). They lived in a stone house there. I think that they had
three daughters Susan, Melissa and Clarissa, but I am not sure. Susan married John Albert, who died very early in this century. I have been told that he had some money and taught at Lebanon Valley College. I know virtually nothing about him because when he died, my great grandmother and her children were cut off. He was suppose to have a sister by the last name of Gates who made sure that Mammy got nothing. All of this may be legend. I am not sure. However, if anyone has any information, please e-mail me. Thanks.

I am seeking genealogical information about the SHANK family. The name is of German descent and has been anglicized from such variants as SHENK, SHENCK and SCHENK. I have been able to trace a line back to:
Joseph B. SHANK (b: 4/22/1809 Heidelberg, Lebanon County, PA; d: 10/15/1875 Cadiz, Green County, WI); married on 12/2/1832 at Tabor First Reformed Church, Lebanon County, PA to Catherine BAMBERGER (b: 10/18/1813; d: 12/31/1988 Buckey, Stephenson County, IL). Joseph and Catherine moved their family from Lebanon County, PA to Green County, WI in the 1840s. Joseph and Catherine had many children while in Lebanon County, PA, including: John SHANK (b: 1/14/1834), Abraham SHANK (b: 4/2/1835), Maria SHANK (b: 2/3/1837), Cyrus SHANK (b: 12/28/1838), Catherine & Joseph Bamberger SHANK (b: 8/1/1841) - twins, Malinda SHANK (b: 12/5/1843) and Michael SHANK (b: 10/22/1845).
I am also curious if anything occurred in Lebanon County in the latter part of 1842 as it appears that three of the children died within two months of each other. Did the yellow fever reach this area? Any help or guidance you could provide would be greatly appreciated.
