Although
Greene County was
formed February 9, 1796, there were no marriages
recorded at the courthouse until 1885. The marriage records in this
book were obtained solely from Greene County records. The work is
divided into two parts. The first part consists of marriages
transcribed from the Waynesburg Republican Newspaper. The second part
of this book is composed of marriages from records of Ministers of the
Gospel, Justices of the Peace, Bible Records, Journals kept by county
residents, Revolutionary War Pension Records and newspaper obituaries.
There are two short lists of marriages which are undocumented.-- This
information is from the "Introduction" of the Zollars' book.
