3 April 1810 - Joseph Culbertson, Jr. of Green Township, Franklin County,
Pennsylvania and Mary his wife to James Finley of Green Township, £407 10s.,
plantation in Letterkenny Township, 27 acres by lands of Frederick Hess,
Abraham Resor, George Besore, heirs of John Finley. By patent date 29
December 17?4 to John McConerd?, patent book AA, volume 15, page 337,
transferred to Abraham Resor and wife, Elizabeth by deed 6 June 1809 and
conveyed to Joseph Culbertson.

19 February 1818 - Joseph Culbertson appointed guardian of Robert, James
Finley, Alexander, Cyrus and William Culbertson, minor children of the said
Joseph and under age of fourteen, for the purpose of ?? and taking care of
their share of the estate of their grandfather James Finley.

19 February 1818 - Petition of James Finley one of the children and being at
law of James Finley, Esq. late of Green Township decd was read setting forth
that the petitioners late father James Finley died leaving a widow since
deceased, and issue eight children, Viz, Samuel, John, James (the
petitioner) William since deceased without issue, Elizabeth now deceased
(leaving two children and late husband Stephen Duncan), Viz. Jane
intermarried with Moses Moore & Polly intermarried with Edmund Waller,
Isabella intermarried with James Gallbreath, Molly (late wife of Joseph
Culbertson) which said Molly is since deceased leaving children to wit
(Robert, James, Alexander, Cyrus, and William all of whom are minors) and
Jane late wife of Samuel Armstrong Rippey which said S.A. Rippey is since
deceased. That the said James Finley decd seized in his demesne as of fee
and ??? said piece or tract of land Situate in Letterkenny township
adjoining land of Frederick Hess, lands of the heirs of John Finley decd &,
other lands that belonged to the said James Finley decd containing
twenty-seven acres & allowance that the said James Finley Esquire decd did
on the 4th day of February one thousand eight hundred and nine make his last
will and testament in writing which is duly registered in the proper office
for that purpose in the said county of Franklin. That the above described
piece of land was acquired by the said James Finley decd by purchase
subsequently to the making of the his said last will and Testament and of
the same no disposition was made by the said will and Testament will more
fully appear. And with respect to the said premises, the petitioners Father
died Intestate. And thereupon prayed the court to award an inquest to divide
the premises to and among the children as legal representatives of the said
James Finley decd if the same can be done without prejudice to and spoiling
the whole. and if the said Inquest find that the same cannot be so divided
that they proceed that whether the same will conveniently accommodate more
than one of said children and representatives, and if they find that ???
will so accommodate more than one of said parties, they proceed to divide
the same accordingly by metes and bounds ???appraise each purport, last if
they find that the same will not accommodate more than one of said parties

18 March 1818 - Petition of Jeremiah Snider Esq high sheriff of the count of
Franklin on the ninth day of March one thousand eight hundred and eighteen
on real estate of James Finley decd n pursuance an order of this court was
now brought before the court and since it did thereby appear that by virtue
of the said order the same was taken by the oaths and affirmations of Samuel
Brotherton, Andrew Thompson, Abraham Sassiman, John Madeira, Bernard Wolff,
Peter Augherbrough, George ?grove, Jacob Snider, Peter Eberl and John Walsh
twelve good and lawful men of his bailiwick who on their oaths, ???,
aforesaid respectively did say that the piece or parcel of land is the said
order mentioned Situate in Letterkenny township by lands of Frederick Hess,
Benjamin Resor, George Besone, Finley & Culbertson & the heirs of John
Finley decd and legal representatives of said deceased without prejudice to
& spoiling the whole and that the same would conveniently accommodate more
than one of said heirs, & legal representatives without . . . the sum of one
hundred and fifty three dollars seventy five cents. And proceed to wit 11
March 1818 James Finley and Joseph Culbertson did appear in court and
produced the deed of conveyance to them of Samuel Finley eldest son of the
intestate for all his inter?? Land dated 19th September 1816 recorded at
Chambersburg in record book [blank] page [blank] and testified ???the said
land at the appraisement thereof in right of said Samuel Finley and by
virtue of said deed whereupon ?? the same to the said James Finley and
Joseph Culbertson as their freehold to them their heirs and assigns entering
in to recognizance for the payment of the ??share to the other children and
legal representatives of the said deceased in the sum of one thousand six
hundred and twenty dollars and ??hundred two dollars and fifty cents in one
year from the date hereof with interest to John Finley.

?? 15th 1822 - I acknowledge to have received full satisfaction on the state
recognizance.

James and Joseph also produced the deed of William Findlay decd to them for
