McGhie - Pages 151-157 Line of descent begins with Michael Magge who "submitted to Edward III." 1339. But line of descent unknown to: Malcolm M'Kie of Cua(?)lden. Gilbert M'Gy - first Lord of Balmage; had charter 1426; m. Mareota de Keth (mentioned 1459; referred to in Exchequer roll, 1460, as of Kircudbrightshire (name written as Macge, M'Ke, M'Gy, McGhie). William M'Gy - had sasine (meaning of term unclear) to Slogarrie, 1471. Nicholas McGee - heir to William; m. Elizabeth Maxwell. William McGee - Exchequer roll of 1526/27; Lord HighTreasurer's accounts, 1527. Alexander Makgee - heir to William; had sasino, 1553; heir to father, 1579; d. before 30 April 1611. Robert M'Ghie - eldest son and heir to Alexander, 30 April 1611; d. 1615. Sir John M'Ghie - eldest son and heir to Robert, 1615; knighted by Charles II. Alexander McGhie - eldest son and heir to Sir John; m. (1) Jane Milliken, Templemore Parish, Londonderry, Ireland; linen-manufacturer; will dated 19 June 1729; lived in Lifford, Ballybogan, Co. Donegal; then Ballymagary, Co. Antrim, Connor diocese. Elizabeth - b. 11 October 1661; m. Joseph Caldwell of Lifford; had sasine of lands of Arie,1666. Jane - b. 11 October 1661 (twin); had sasine with Elizabeth, 1666. William - eldest son; of Creggan, Co. Derry; m. Anne (son John) Robert - late of Creggan; m. Jane Barclay (dau of Alexander Barclay and Margaret Millikin); (children: Jane, Elizabeth, Margaret, Alexander, Thomas emigrated to Paxtang, Lancaster Co., PA; John, Mary, James to Derry, Lancaster Co., PA; Robert). James - of Castelfinne, Co. Donegal. Thomas - of Cregga, Co. Derry. Alexander - of Strabane, Co. Tyrone; m. Margaret Lowry (dau of Thomas Lowry), 1690 (son Thomas, b. 3 August 1700); 1722, emigrated to Lancaster Co., PA; will 27, May 1736. m. (2) Elizabeth Stewart. James McGhie - carpenter; m. Mary O'Kannon, 1665, Templemore Parish, Londonderry, Ireland; (children: Mary, Jane, John, Margaret, Anne). Brian - buried 1665, Londerry. Finley - Page 154 1. James McGhie, son of Robert McGhie and Jane Barclay, m. 1734, Margaret, daughter of Robert Finley and emigrated to Derry, Lancaster Co., PA (will 1759 ... no indication of whose will). 2. James Patterson, eldest son of James Patterson and Anne Corry, m. 1727, Isabella, daughter of Samuel Finley, who emigrated to Chester Co., PA and died in 1737. Administration granted to brother, Robert Finley of West Nottingham, PA. Another brother, Michael had son, Samuel, who became President of Princeton College, NJ; daughter Susanna, was mother of Samuel Finley Morse, the inventor. James Patterson, brother of Margaret, came to Rockbridge Co., VA. Thomas Caldwell, son of John Caldwell - Page 188 "Thomas, b.c. 1720, had a grant of 354 acres land in Co. Brunswick, on s.s. of Bannister river, for 35s. June 5, 1746. Patents Va. 25:81. He died the following year, and an inventory was sworn to before William Caldwell, March 7, 1737. Lunenburg wills, I.1 ... Paid Mr. John Coldwell 6.15.0. The widow went to Kentucky."
