The following item dated at Midway was taken from the Pittsburg
Commercial Gazette of September 13, 1865, and will no doubt be of interest
to Outlook readers.
By the politeness of S. F. SCULL, Esq., Auditor Western Transportation Company, we are advised of certain changes in the stations of that part of
the Pittsburg, Columbus and Cincinnati Railroad, between the Iron City and
Steubenville. The distances from the new Union Depot on Liberty street are,
viz: South Pittsburg, one mile; Temeranceville, two; Nimick, four; Brodhead
(formerly Sheridan), six; Rosedale, (formerly Mansfield), eight; Walker's
Mill, eleven; Noblestown, fifteen; McDonald (formerly Havelock, but changed
in honor of Edward McDonald, Esq., one of the oldest citizens on the route,
and an original, never-flagging friend of the enterprise, who subscribed largely to the stock of the road, gave grounds for a station, and released
the right of way over the broad-bosomed track of a thousand acres), eighteen; Midway, twenty-one,
Bulger, twenty-three; Burgettstown,
twenty-seven; Dinsmore, thirty; Hanlin, thirty-two; Collier, thirty-six;
Holliday's Cove, thirty-nine; Edgington, forty-one; Steubenville, forty-three, Cadiz Junction, sixty-eight; Uhrichsville, ninety-three;
Coshocton, one hundred and twenty-four; Newark, one hundred and sixty; Columbus, one hundred and ninety-three.
President JEWETT and his assistants are unremitting in their labors to place the road in permanent condition for business, and announce that accommodation trains will be in motion in a few days. It is rumored that a
line of stages will run from McDonald to Canonsburg, a distance of seven
miles, and thence to Washington.
