Article from the Daily Reporter newspaper, Mar. 14, 1889, p. unknown: South Strabane Gossip - Correspondence of the Reporter - Dr. F. B. Winnet, Scenery Hill, had a horse to die a few days since; James Lane lost one; Isaac Lindsey had one die, recently; George Shipe has one [horse] on the sick list. NOTE: The above is James Polk Lane, my 3rd great-grandfather. He was Brethren and so, this is one of the few instances that we found his name in the newspaper. The Brethren, called German Baptists back then, shunned any personal publicity or calling attention to themselves.
