LITERATURE
Hints to Emigrants from Europe, who intend to make a permanent residence in
the United States. By the Shamrock Society of New York. July

Among the vast numbers emigrating to America, there must be many who are
nearly altogether unacquainted with the country to which they are going, and
ignorant of many things which it is essential for them to know. A cheap
Tract [literature], which should serve as a manual to those friendless
strangers, and afford them information adapted to their various pursuits and
situations, would be extremely useful.
The Hints are intended to answer this purpose; but although drawn up by a
Committee of Emigrants, (including the names of EMMET and MACKGIVEN,) they are
by no means so copious and particular as might be desired. This will
appear from the following abstract of the information they afford, which we lay
before our readers, as the publication, we believe, is not to be had here.
