The officials of the Maryland penitentiary have united in a petition for a pardon for John MURRAY, who was convicted of murder in the second degree.  His term is about to expire and a formal petition will save his citizenship.

Conductor Z. L. AVERY, of the Sixth Avenue Elevated road [i.e. overhead subway], in New York, was crushed to death under the wheels of the engine which had been attached to his own train.
