Andrew married Mary Hayden. Mary was born about 1792 in Ireland. She died 18 Feb 1879 and was buried in St. Basil's Cemetery, Dushore, Sullivan, PA. Mary was counted in a census 1860 in Cherry Township, Sullivan, PA. She was counted in a census 1870 in Cherry Township, Sullivan, PA.

Comment from Leo P. McDonald: "I know that he came over from England about 1837 with his father Andrew and mother Mary Hayden. His father died 4 Jun 1839 when a tree fell on him. Third Generation

By the time of the Third Generation, the McDonalds had become miners. They lived and breathed the mine air of Sullivan county, particularly in the coal town of Bernice (pronounced "Bur-nis" ), PA. Bernice was the sister community to Mildred, just east of Dushore in Sullivan County. For reasons unknown, part of Bernice was also known as "Chinatown" and the folks who lived in Bernice had unique nicknames when they were in the Chinatown area. Attached is a picture of the Turnpike Road in Bernice taken about 1906 when the mining industry was in full bloom. The house nearest to the viewer was once occupied by Thomas and Julia Ann (McDonald) Murray, the sister and brother-in-law of John Baptist McDonald and the daughter of the Andrew McDonald we are about to learn about} (Information and picture from Leo P.   John Baptist McDonald "JB" (Andrew , John H , Andrew ) was born 4 Jun 1883 in Sullivan Co, PA. He died 3 Jan 1938 in Athens, Bradford, PA. from a heart attack and was buried 7 Jan 1938 in Epiphany Cemetery, Sayre, Bradford, PA. JB was counted in a census 1900 in Cherry Township, Sullivan, PA. JB married Maude E Bump, daughter of Edmond L Bump and Rhoda Adeline Beeman, on 26 Aug 1907 in Corning, NY. Maude was born 18 Feb 1885 in Albany Township, Bradford, PA. Mary Blanche McDonald (Andrew , John H , Andrew ) was born 12 May 1889. She died 1958 and was buried in St. Basil's, Dushore, Sullivan, PA. Mary was counted in a census 1900 in Cherry Township, Sullivan, PA. Mary married William Arthur Yonkin son of John Henry Yonkin and Agnes Litzelman, on 29 Oct 1913. William was born 1893. He died 1966 and was buried in St. Basil's, Dushore, Sullivan, PA. They had the following children:

Lawrence Aloysius McDonald (Andrew , John H , Andrew ) was born 21 Jun 1891 and died at age 56 of a heart attack. Lawrence was counted in a census 1900 in Cherry Township, Sullivan, PA. Lawrence married Elizabeth Cowley (See her picture as a young woman with two friends in the Picture Bin in the Image Gallery) on 2 Jun 1914. Elizabeth was born 1890 in Dushore, Sullivan, PA.. She died 25 Jun 1931 and was buried 27 Jun 1931 in St Basil Cemetery, Dushore, Sullivan, PA. Comments on Robert McDonald: "His father was one of ten children. I grew up better than he did. This resulted from his mother Elizabeth (Cowley) dying when she was 32 years old. His mother had three maiden sisters who stepped in and did a wonderful job of raising Bob, his brother Andrew and sisters Mary and Helen. His father did not remarry right away but naturally stuck close to Dushore where his children spent summers and all holidays. Bob’s father (Lawrence) was a conductor on the Lehigh Valley Railroad on the famous "Black Diamond." The McDonald family had a very strange vulnerability. Bob’s father, as I said, was one of 10. None lived past age 65 and all died of heart attacks….even the women. Bob’s father Lawrence was 56 when he died suddenly; his sister Mary was 62 and brother Andrew was 63. All sudden attacks. Julia Anna McDonald (Andrew , John H , Andrew ) was born 21 Feb 1893 in Towanda, Bradford, PA. She died 21 Mar 1951 in Sayre, Bradford, PA.
