ROGERS –CARMETA L. THALL, 68 of Canton RR 2 passed away on Thursday, Dec. 17, 1992 at the home of her daughter, Carol Franz, Sonestown following a lingering illness.  She was born Aug. 20, 1924 in New Era, Bradford County the daughter of the late Frank and Stella Mayo Rogers.  Mrs. Thall was preceded in death by her first husband, the late Walter Shrimp in 1983.  She has spent most of her lifetime in the Sullivan County area.  Surviving are her second husband, Robert B. Thall at home; one daughter, Carol Frantz, Sonestown; two granddaughters, Dulcey Smith, New Albany and Carmeta Pearson, Muncy Valley RR; two great-grandsons, Tyler Pearson and Justin Smith; Three brothers, Francis Rogers, Sayre RR, William Rogers, Newtown Square, PA and Carl Rogers, Rome; three sisters, Anna Fitzwater, Canton, Helen Croft, Waverly and Donna Ford, Rome.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Walter and Robert Rogers.  The funeral service was held on Monday, Dec. 21, 1992 in the Russell P. McHenry Funeral Home, Dushore, with pastors, the Rev. Robert W. Martin and the Rev. James Lewis officiating.  Interment was in Fairview Cemetery

Lorin Pardoe expands as follows upon the Rogers side:

Carmeta Rogers was the daughter of Frank E. Rogers (1900-1973) and Stella L. (Mayo) Rogers (1897-1936). From census records and cemetery records, I conclude that Frank E. Rogers was the son of Benjamin Rogers (1878-1959) and Hannah (Terrill) Rogers (1882-1922). And Benjamin appears to be son of Sidney N. Rogers (1852-1919), PA, and Andaresta F. (Moon) Rogers (1848-Unknown). I am unable to connect this line to the Rogers family of Sullivan County whose history can be found in Aunt Eliza's Scrapbook. In fact, the grandfather of Sidney N. Rogers was born in Connecticut.   Interesting that Samuel Sadler Rogers and Eliza C. (Green) Rogers also had a son named Sidney T. Rogers, but he was b. March 1884 - 30 years later.

Children of Walter and Laura Teeter Shrimp:

  1. Vernon "Jimmy" Walter Schrimp Birth Date: 7 Mar 1921   Death Date: 23 Aug 1990  married Leona Pearl Johnson

Carol Rogers/Schrimp is a child of Carmeta Rogers, possibly before she married Walter Schrimp. "Some Descendants of Joel & Sarah Bird Bennett of Sullivan County, Pennsylvania," (written between 1993 and 1998)", page E-59, Charles Kehler shows her name as Carol Rogers. Gayle Schrimp Eddy, daughter of Donald Schrimp, tells us that Walter and Carmeta were not married until much later. She also sent the following email explaining the Schrimp/Shrimp change in the spelling of the Schrimp/Shrimp name:

I am the oldest daughter of Donald G. Schrimp. Laura (Lura) Pearl Teeter Shrimp Stevens was the mother of Vernon, my dad  Don, Eugene & and Myron.  She was married to Walter and they divorced. I really think he and Carmeta got married years after they lived together. I always remember her with granddad. The spelling of Shrimp is an interesting story.  Only Dad and Uncle Pete ["Eugene"] use the 'c'. Dad says that Dr. Sullivan in Dushore added the 'c' to his record when dad went into the Army and followed suit with Uncle Pete Eugene.

Carol Brotzman has been kind enough to create an ancestral chart based on Gayle Schrimp, which you can find at the end of this page.
