Mrs. Catherine Bahr died Saturday October 25, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lewis Hunsinger of Fairdale, Pa. at the age of 89 years.

She is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Lewis Hunsinger, Fairdale; Mrs. Joseph Litzelman, Scranton; Mrs. John L Shaffer and Mrs. Frank Thall of Cherry Township; and Mrs. Gabriel Litzelman of Dushore, two sons, John and Jacob Bahr of Cherry Township. Funeral services were held in Peace church, Tuesday afternoon with interment in the adjoining cemetery.

John S. Bahr of Forks Township died Sunday in the Packer Hospital at Sayre following an illness of several months. Mr. Bahr was born in Cherry Township August 18, 1859, a son of the late Charles and Catherine Hartzig Bahr.

He is survived by his wife, Dora Dunn Bahr, two daughters, Mrs. Anna Richlin and Miss Veronica Bahr and two sons, John William Bahr and Charles Arthur Bahr, also three sisters, Mrs. John L. Shaffer of Cherry Township, Mrs. Addie Hunsinger of Montrose and Mrs. Eliza Litzelman of Endicott, and one brother Jacob Bahr of Cherry Township.

Funeral service was held Tuesday morning in St. Francis Church in Overton. Interment in the family plot in the adjoining cemetery.

Dora M. Bahr, widow of John Bahr, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 28, at Harrisburg at the age of 97 years.

She was born on July 19,1865 at Overton, the daughter of Peter and Cathryn Whalen Dunn.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. William Richlin of Elmira, N.Y. a son, William, of Canada; five grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

Rev. John O’Neill was celebrant of the High Mass of Requiem at St. Francis Xavier church in Overton on Monday morning March 4, at 11 o’clock; burial was in the parish cemetery.

 

Dora Dun Bahr of Harrisburg died Thursday evening Feb. 28 at the age of 97.

Mrs. Bahr was the daughter of Peter and Kathryn Dunn of Forks Township, Sullivan County. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Anna Richlin of Elmira, a son William Bahr of Canada, five grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Martha Deer of Pittsburgh and Mrs. Vernie Harney of Canton, Ohio; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on Monday morning at St. Francis Xavier church in Overton, with burial in St. Francis cemetery.

Arthur C. Bahr, 53 year old farmer who lived alone on New Albany Rd 3 near Overton, was found dead in his home Sunday; the body having been discovered at the foot of some stairs.

Dr. T.J. Saul, county coroner, said the man probably died from a heart attack and apparently had been dead about four days.

Mr. Bahr is survived by his mother, Mrs. Dora Bahr of Harrisburg; brother, William of Indian Head, Saskatchewan, Canada; two sisters, Mrs. Veronica Sheep of Harrisburg and Mrs. Anna Richlin of Elmira.

Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at 9 o’clock at the Cranmer funeral Home, New Albany, and at 9:30 at St. Francis Church, Overton.

Burial was in the parish cemetery at Overton.

Jacob L. Bahr, of Cherry Township, died Sunday morning, September 14th, following an illness of some time, at the age of 91 years.

Mr. Bahr was born in Cherry Township, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bahr, and had spent his entire life in the county.

He is survived by three daughters. Mrs. Alice Rohe of Cherry Township, Mrs. Minnie VanHorn of Elmira, and Miss Mary Bahr at home; two sons, George and Dewey Bahr at home, two sisters, Mrs. Addie Hunsinger of Montrose and Mrs. Loretta Shaffer of Cherry Township; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Tubach Funeral Home on Water Street. Rev. Clement B. Meyers officiated, Interment in the family plot in Fairview cemetery.

Mrs. Minerva Bahr died at her home in Cherry Township, Saturday June 24, at the age of 64 years.

She is survived by her husband and the following children: Mrs. Oscar Snyder of Laporte, Mrs. William VanHorn of Elmira, Mrs. John C. Rohe of Cherry Township, Miss Mary Bahr, George Bahr and Dewy Bahr at home, also six grandchildren: William Snyder of Laporte, Agnes Rohe of Cherry Township, Harland, Revilo, William Jr. and Florence VanHorn of Elmira. Two sisters, Mrs. Andrew Rose of Endicott and Mrs. Emma Krause of Laporte, also survive.

Funeral service was held at her late home Tuesday afternoon. Interment in Fairview cemetery.

    Mrs. Emma Snyder, age 63, passed away at her home in Laporte early Wednesday morning following a short illness.

    Mrs. Snyder was born January 29, 1888, at Cherry Mills, the daughter of Jacob and Minerva Litzelman Bahr.

    Her survivors include one son, William of Laporte; her father, Jacob Bahr of Dushore; two brothers, George and Dewey of Dushore; three sisters, Mrs. William VanHorn of Elmira, Mrs. Alice Rohe and Miss Mary Bahr of Dushore; one grandson and several nieces and nephews.

    Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at the Holcombe Funeral Home in Dushore with Rev. Clement B. Meyers officiating. Interment will be in Mountain Ash cemetery at Laporte.

    George E. Bahr, of Dushore RD, died Thursday, July 2, at the Sayre House after a short illness.

    He was born 80 years ago on February 15, 1890, in Cherry Twp., a son of Jacob and Minerva Litzelman Bahr. He was a lifelong resident of Sullivan County, where he engaged in farming, taking great pride in his registered Herefords. He was a member of the Herefords Association.

    He was a member of the United Church of Christ in Dushore.

    He is survived by three sisters, Miss Mary Bahr of Dushore, Mrs. Alice Rohe of Hughesville, Mrs. Minnie VanHorn of Elmira, N.Y.; one aunt, Mr. Addie Hunsinger of Montrose; several nieces and nephews.

    Funeral services were held July 6 at the Tubach Funeral Home in Dushore with the Rev. James E. Johnson officiating. Interment was in the Fairview Cemetery, Dushore.

    Mrs. Alice R. Rohe, 87, of Hughesville, died September 21, 1980, at her home. Her husband, John C. Rohe, died August 5, 1950.

    Born May 17, 1893, in Sullivan County, she was a daughter of Jacob and Minerva Litzelman Bahr.

    She was a former Dushore RD 1 resident.

    Mrs. Rohe was a lifelong member of Redeemer United Church of Christ, Dushore.

    Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Agnes R. Eddy, of Hughesville, and two sisters, Miss Mary M. Bahr, of Dushore RD 1, and Mrs. Minnie VanHorn, of Elmira, NY.

    The funeral was held September 24, 1980, in Hughesville, with the Rev. Robert E. Burger, pastor of Hughesville Baptist Church, officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery, Dushore, Pa.

    Miss Mary M. Bahr, 98, of Dushore died, August 3, 2001, at The Highlands in Laporte.

    Mary was born in Dushore, on Nov. 14, 1902, a daughter of the late Jacob and Minerva Litzelman Bahr.

    She was a lifetime resident of Sullivan County and a member of the Redeemer United Church of Christ, Dushore.

    Surviving are two nephews and spouses: Harold and Edith VanHorn of Dushore, and Revilo and Alberta VanHorn of Penn Yan, NY; two nieces, Mrs. Florence Hotchkiss of Wellsburg, NY, and Mrs. Nedra Snyder of Laporte; and several cousins.

    Private funeral services were held on Aug. 6, 2001 at the P. Dean Funeral Home, Dushore with the Rev. Robert Martin, her pastor, presiding.

    Interment was in the Fairview Cemetery, Dushore.

    Mrs. Eliza Litzelman, 84, widow of Gabriel Litzelman of Dushore, Pa, died in the Lourdes Hospital, Binghamton, N.Y. Friday evening, March 7, 1947, following a long illness, which became serious a month before her death.

    Following her husband’s death in 1924, Mrs. Litzelman went to Endicott to live with a granddaughter, Mrs. Clarence Mott. Mrs. Mott died in 1934, but the grandmother remained in Endicott until about eight years ago when she moved to Montrose.

    For a while she had rooms in the home of her sister, Mrs. Addie Hunsinger, and later took an apartment in the McLaughlin apartment house on Maple Street, where she lived until she was removed to the hospital on February 6th.

    Mrs. Litzelman is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Addie Hunsinger, Montrose and Mrs. Loretta Shaffer, Dushore, a brother, Jacob Bahr, Dushore, and several nieces and nephews.

    She was a member of Holy Name of Mary Church, Montrose, of which the Rev. Joseph Corcoran is the pastor. The funeral was held on Tuesday, March 11 with high mass at ten o’clock, in St. Ambrose Church, Endicott, N.Y. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City, N.Y.

    The bearers were Postmaster Jos L. Meehan, Montrose; Henry W. Felton, Montrose, Zed Mott, Fred Jones, Patrick Byron and Wilbur Waterman, of Endicott, N.Y. Funeral arrangements were in charge of Walter J. McCormick, Endicott.

    Gabriel Litzelman died Sunday at his home at this place at the age of 85 years.

    Mr. Litzelman was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Matthias Litzelman, who settled in Cherry Township about 1830.

    He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Eliza Bahr Litzelman, and three daughters, Mrs. Emily Kraus, of Laporte, Mrs. Jacob Bahr of Cherry Township, and Mrs. Lorena Rose. Also two sisters, Mrs. Louisa Mushno of Jersey Shore, and Mrs. Adaline Collinger of Oregon and three brothers, John and Raphael Litzelman of Cherry township and Michael Litzelman of Sayre.

    Funeral services were held this Wednesday in St. Basil’s church with interment in the adjoining cemetery.

    Mrs. Loretta E. Shaffer, 89 a life long resident of Cherry Township, died at the home of her son, Orville Shaffer, Dushore RD, Thursday evening. She had been in ill health for several months.

    Mrs. Shaffer was born June 2, 1865, in Forks township; she was a daughter of the late Charles and Catherine Hartzig Bahr

    She is survived by three sons, Oliver, Andrew and Orville, of Dushore RD, three daughters, Mrs. Amelda Fusselman of New York City, Mrs. Alma Johns of Rochester and Mrs. Hannah Lee of Richfield Park, N.J; a sister, Mrs. Addie Hunsinger of Montrose; 13 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

    Funeral services were held at the Holcombe Funeral home Monday afternoon at 1:30, with further services in the Evangelical and Reformed church of Dushore at 2 o'clock, the Rev. Elden E. Eherhart, pastor, officiating. Burial was in Fairview cemetery.

    John L. Shaffer of Cherry Township, died at the Robert Packer Hospital at Sayre, Sunday evening, after a long illness. He is survived by his wife, three daughters, Mrs. Raymond Fasselman of New York City, Mrs. Burton Johns of Rochester, Mrs. Gordon Lee of East Stroudsburg, and four sons, Oliver, Andrew, Orville, all of Cherry Township and Charles of Philadelphia; sixteen grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. John A. Rohe of Syracuse, and three brothers, William of Dushore, Samuel and Frank of Cherry township.

    Private funeral service was held at his late home Wednesday afternoon. Interment in Fairview cemetery. Rev. Harold G. Deisher and Rev. C. B. Meyers officiating.

    Oliver Klinton Shaffer, 90, of Dushore RD 1, died April 26, 1979, at his home following a lingering illness.

    He was born on January 10, 1890 in Cherry Township, a son of John L. and Loretta Bahr Shaffer.

    He was a lifetime resident of Sullivan County. His wife, Myrtie Danzer Shaffer, died March 9, 1968.

    He was a veteran of World War I and had served overseas with the U.S. Army in France as No. 11 gunner on the 14-inch guns of the 52nd Artillery at Alsace-Lorraine. Mr. Shaffer received a marksman medal, and was advanced to gunner first class, but turned down further advancement during his years in France.

    He was a member of Post No. 996 American Legion of Dushore, and an active farmer until 1975 when illness forced his retirement.

    Surviving are one brother, Orville Shaffer of Dushore RD 1; one sister, Mrs. Alma Johns of Rochester, NY, and several nieces and nephews.

    Funeral services were held April 30, at the Russell P. McHenry Funeral Home, Dushore Burial was in Fairview Cemetery, Dushore.
