ANNA MILLER

ANNA MILLER (Mary, John Hartzig), born December 13, 1839; died August 19, 1911; buried in Fairview Cemetery, Dushore, Pa.

Married Percival Wentzel, born August 3, 1836 in Cherry, PA; died January 4, 1921.

Note: Percival was the son of Jacob and Susannah (Beare) Wentzel. Jacob was born in Berks County, PA in 1878. Susannah, daughter of John Beare, was born February 21, 1809 in Windsor Township, Berks County, PA, and married Jacob on February 15, 1831 somewhere in Berks County, the Reverend William Pauli presiding. Susannah died October 19, 1878, following Jacob to the grave by a brief three months. He died on July 17, 1878 at the age of 84 years, two months and two days.

Percival had two siblings. Fietta "Fietty" Wentzel was born February 27, 1834 in Berne Township, Berks County and later married Adam H. Zaner on March 27, 1853 in Cherry, Sullivan County, PA, the Reverend William Reeser presiding. Benneville Wentzel was born December 10, 1831 near Reading, Berks County, PA. He died on February 21, 1858 in Dushore and is eulogized in the Wentzel Family Bible now in the possession of the Sullivan County Historical Society.

The Wentzel and Zaner families are among the early prominent German families in the area. The Wentzels relocated to the Dushore area between 1834 and 1836; Percival was the first member of his own family of origin to be born in Sullivan County. In 2002, Bob Sweeney purchased the Wentzel Family Bible at auction on eBay and donated it to the Sullivan County Historical Society. The Bible, published in 1850 and purchased by Jacob in Towanda, PA in that year, contains written records on Jacob, his wife and children.
