Uriah Hoagland of Fox Township, Sullivan County died on Tuesday of last week after a lingering illness of some months. He was born in Fox Township 89 years ago and had spent his entire life there, with exception of two years spent as soldier during Civil War. He was at the battle of Gettysburg and several other engagements. He is survived by the following children: Delos Hoagland of Fox , George H. of Hillsgrove, Mrs. Cella Spencer of Tioga Center NY, Mrs. Laura Saddler of Hillsgrove, Mrs. Samuel Wheeler of Rummerfield, this County, and Mrs. Addie Howell of Owego NY. The funeral was largely attended.

Her maiden name was said to be Henderson, but I can't vouch for that.) Proof of William Chapin's wife Minerva is in the will of her brother Manning Hoagland in Bradford Co. Will Book #5, p.73, and the family signing off land in Bradford Co. Deed Book #132, p.193. Also, William Chapin's wife was always Minerva on censuses.

William H. Chaplin, aged 75, died on Feb 21, at his home at
E. Canton after a week’s illness. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Nellie
Smith of E. Canton & Mrs. R. L. Crofut * of Canton, three sons, Lewis of E.
Canton, Manning of Elmira & Floyd, of Flint, Mich: a sister Mrs. Susan Riggs
of Williamsport and a bro Serah Chaplin of Savannah Georgia, also eleven
grandchildren and five great - grandchildren. The funeral was held on Wed.
afternoon from his late home & interment was made in the E. Canton Cem.

Mrs. Hoagland was born August 24, 1900 in Leroy Township, the daughter of Herbert and Mertie Every Wilcox. She was formerly employed as an elementary teacher for New York State school system and as a bookkeeper for an Elmira based business. She was a member of the Canton First Baptist Church as well as a Sunday School teacher there. She is survived by her son, Marshall H. Hoagland of Suffern, NY; four grandchildren; sisters, Mrs. Marietta Colton of Leroy and Mrs. Winifred Shoemaker of Granville Summit, RD2; brothers, H. Rosa Wilcox, and G. Benjamin Wilcox, both of Canton, RD1; also several nieces, nephews and cousins. A memorial service was held on September 6 at the Morse-Kleese Funeral Home in Canton with Rev. Michael West, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Canton, officiating. Interment will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Horseheads, NY. Memorial donations may be directed to the Canton First Baptist Church in Mrs. Hoagland’s memory. (TGR Sept. 1, 1986)

Gertrude “Gert” Alene HOAGLAND of Hillcrest Apartments in Troy, formerly of Canton, died unexpectedly on Saturday, July 24, 1999 at Robert Packard Hospital following a brief illness. Born June 13, 1918, in Windfall, PA, she was a daughter of the late Lawrence and Nina Colton Allen. Gert was the loving wife of the late Edwin F. Hoagland Sr. He preceded her in death on June 18, 1977, following 39 years of marriage. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Canton and the Women of the Moose, Canton Lodge No. 981. Gert was an avid card player. She especially enjoyed playing euchre with her friends and family. She is survived by her five children and their spouses, Robert and Sharon Hoagland of Las Vegas, Nev.; Ella Mae and Steven Wielage of Marion, Iowa, Diana and Ronald Burris of Garnerville, NY, Edwin and Annita Hoagland of Mexico City and Nancy and Darl Brown of Troy, PA; 13 grandchildren, Michael and Jeff Hoagland, Chalet Carroll and Clayton Wielage, Ronald and Robert Burris, William, Jessica, Eddie and Stefan Hoagland, and Ryan Whitney and Tyler Brown; three great-grandchildren, Brandon Thomas Hoagland, Jody Marie Carroll and Tyler Christian Burris; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her husband, Gertrude was predeceased by a brother, Lawrence Allen, in 1922; two sisters, Dorothy Louise Bellows in December 1984 and Ruth May McNeal in March 1999. The family received friends on Monday, July 26, at Pepper Funeral Home, Springbrook Drive, Canton. The funeral was held at 10 am Tuesday at the funeral home with Mrs. Hoagland’s son Edwin Hoagland officiating. Interment followed in the East Canton cemetery. The family suggests that memorial donations may be directed to the American cancer Society, Bradford Chapter, 1948 E. Third St., Williamsport, PA 17701-3945, in Mrs. Hoagland’s memory.

Miss Deanna F. Turner and Herbert L. Hoagland were married Saturday, March 26, at 2 p. m. at the Methodist Church. The Rev. Raymond W. Smith heard the exchange of nuptial vows, using a double ring ceremony. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Turner, Sr. of Ridge Road, Horseheads. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Luther L. Hoagland of 107 Hazelwood Ave., Golden Glow Heights. Mrs. Helen Sunningham was the organist with Mrs. Clifford Robertson, vocalist, providing the musical setting for the service. Mr. Turner gave his daughter in marriage. She was attended by her sister, Mrs. William Blaha of Odessa. Stephen Cooper served the bridegroom as best man. Seating the guests at the Church were the bride's brothers, George E. Turner, Jr., Carl Turner and Richard Turner. A wedding reception followed in the Church parlors. The bride selected a white embroidered nylon organdy gown styled with Sabrina neckline, long sleeves, and a bouffant skirt of tiered embroidery. Her head piece was a crown of lace and pearl orange blossoms securing a fingertip veil of illusion. She carried white orchids centered on a prayer book. The matron of honor selected a pale blue silk organza with fitted bodice and bouffant skirt. Her tulle and velvet crown of flowers was in matching blue and she carried a complementing bouquet of pink carnations. Mr. and Mrs. Hoagland are on a week's tour of the South. The bride is a graduate of Horseheads Central School and is employed at the Horseheads office of Marine Midland Trust Co. of Southern N. Y. The bridegroom, a graduate of Southside High School, is stationed at Ft. Niagara, Youngstown, N. Y. with the U. S. Army. Marshall Herbert Hoagland died peacefully in his sleep on his 77th birthday, October 6, 2003, after a ten-year struggle with Parkinson’s Disease. He was born on October 6, 1926 to Joseph La Rue and Velma (Wilcox) Hoagland in Bradford County, Pennsylvania. He taught 7th and 8th grade English for 26 years, 13 in Hartsdale and 13 at the MacArthur Barr Middle School in Nanuet, NY. After retiring from teaching he worked for the Fellowship of Reconciliation. He was a feature writer for the Rockland Review for many years. He is survived by his wife, Jessica, of Middlebury, VT; his son David and his wife, Lisa of Winslow, ME; his son James of Clifton, NJ; and his daughters, Joi of Stony Point and Dawn of Nanuet, NY; his stepdaughters, Christine Bray of Sloatsburg, NY and Suzanne and her husband, Fred Sommer of Charlotte, NC; fifteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The memorial service will be held at St. Stephen's Church in Middlebury, VT on Sunday, October 12 at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Elderly Services, Inc., or Hospice Volunteer Services.

100. Charles Kenneth HOAGLAND (Martha Bell HOAGLAND, Joseph Marshall, Joseph Benjamin, Jonathan William) was born on 16 Jan 1907 in Leroy, Bradford Co., PA. He died on 14 Jan 1986 in Troy, Bradford Co, Pennsylvania. He was buried in East Canton Cemetery, Canton, Bradford Co., PA.
C. Kenneth Hoagland, 78, a resident of the Dar-Way Nursing Home, formerly of Canton, died Tuesday, Jan 14, at the Troy community Hospital. Born Jan 15, 1907 in Leroy Township, Bradford County, he was the son of Bloom and Matha HOAGLAND. Mr. Hoagland retired in 1972 as a motel manager with the Airport Motel in Lexington, Kentucky. He was a member of the Canton Church of Christ, Disciples of Christ, and also the Canton Loyal Order of the Moose No. 429. Surviving are his wife of 57 years, the former Alleen MANLEY; three sons, Charles R. Hoagland of Toledo, Ohio, Craig M. Hoagland and Thomas L. Hoagland, both of Lexington Kentucky. Five grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. The funeral service will be held Saturday, Jan 18, at 11 a.m., at the Morse- Kleese Funeral Home, 40 N. Center St., Canton, with the Rev. Duane Taylor officiating. Family and friends may call at the funeral home tonight from 7 to o'clock. Those wishing may forward memorial donations to the Canton Church of Christ, Disciples of Christ, in Mr. Hoagland's memory.

Eugene F. Hoagland, age 68, of Towanda, PA, passed away on Sunday, May 26, 2002 at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre. He was born on May 24, 1934, in Towanda, the son of the late Alan and Anna Dunfee Hoagland. He is a 1952 graduate of St. Agnes School in Towanda. In 1990, he retired from GTE Sylvania in Towanda as a computer processor, giving 38 years of service. Mr. Hoagland had been a lifetime resident of this area. He was a member of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church of Towanda and was a member of the Towanda BPOE No. 2191, Towanda VFW and the Towanda Gun Club. Eugene enjoyed golfing and time spent with his family and many friends. Surviving are his former wife, Catherine Hoagland, of Towanda; his four children, Mark Hoagland of Towanda, Patricia Hoagland of Reading, Mary Kay and Stewart DeAlba of Swanksville and Diane Terry of Towanda; a sister and brother-in-law, Louise and Ben Spencer of Manlius, NY; a brother, Joseph Hoagland of Albuquerque, NM; a very special aunt, Eleanor Dunfee of Skaneateles, NY and his four grandchildren, Hanna Hoagland, Nicholas and Paige DeAlba, Michael Terry and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated today, Thursday, May 30 at 10 a.m. in SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Towanda, with the Rev. Ronald Hughes as celebrant. Interment will follow in SS Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery. Friends and family called on Wednesday, May 29 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Russell P. McHenry Funeral Home, 119 Carpenter St., Dushore. A BPOE service was held on Wednesday evening at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Fifth Floor Oncology Department at the Robert Packer Hospital in Mr. Hoagland's memory.

Patricia Ann "Patty" Hoagland, 49, of Towanda, Pa., passed away on Thursday, September 2, 2010. She was born August 23, 1961 in Towanda, the daughter of Catherine (Bryan) Hoagland and the late Eugene F. Hoagland. Patricia was a loving daughter, sister and aunt. She had many friends and a heart of gold. She was preceded in death by her father, Eugene in 2002. She is survived by her mother, Catherine Hoagland of Towanda; brother, Mark Hoagland of Towanda; sisters and brothers-in-law, Dianne and Kevin Ward of Monroeton, Mary and Stuart DeAlba of Schwenksville, Pa.; two nieces, Hannah Hoagland and Paige DeAlba; two nephews, Michael Terry and Nick DeAlba. A private service will be held at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Arrangements are under the direction of the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Ave., Towanda, Pa. Coroner: cause of death of Towanda resident Patricia Hoagland was drowning; However, manner of her death is still under investigation

The cause of death of 49-year-old Patricia Hoagland of Towanda was drowning, the Bradford County coroner has ruled.
On Sept. 3, the day after Hoagland's body was found at the Lamoka swimming area in Franklin Township, the state police had said in a press release that they consider her death to be "suspicious."
Bradford County Coroner Tom Carman said Thursday that he could not make a ruling on the manner of Hoagland's death until further investigation of her death is done by his office and the state police.
A coroner can rule that the manner of an individual's death is, for example, accidental, suicide, homicide, or died of natural causes, he said.
"It's still under investigation to establish the manner (of Hoagland's death)." Carman said on Thursday. "That doesn't mean that it's suspicious. That doesn't mean that it's not suspicious. It just means that we're still reviewing all the information and evidence."
The Lamoka swimming area is located on the Schrader Creek on Schrader Creek Road.
Toxicology tests showed there was alcohol and prescription drugs in her system at the time of her death, the coroner said.
However, Hoagland did not die of an overdose, he said.
Carman declined to discuss specifics about the case, because it is still under investigation by the state police.
For example, he declined to say who found her body or identify which prescription drugs were found in her system.
The coroner said he hoped in the "immediate or near future" that the investigation would be complete, at which time he would be able to release the manner of Hoagland's death.
When contacted early last week, the coroner said he had recently received the autopsy report on Hoagland, including the results of toxicology tests, but still needed time to review them before discussing the case.
Then, on Thursday, the coroner announced that the cause of Hoagland's death was drowning.
The Review's attempts to reach the state police late Thursday and Sunday were unsuccessful.
The Review was also unsuccessful on Sunday in reaching Hoagland's family members.
