Coloman Weisbrod                                                                                          The Sullivan Review, 2-10-1937
Coloman Weisbrod of Cherry township was instantly killed, Friday, while working in a wood lot on his farm.
He went out alone, with his team and when he did not appear for dinner his wife became anxious and sent a neighbor’s children out to look for him. They returned with the team but failed to locate Mr. Weisbrod.
A searching party was then organized and Stephen Litzelman a neighbor, and Mrs. Hilda Josat, a cousin found the body with the head crushed under a fallen tree. It is believed that the tree lodged and in attempting to cut it down he was caught. Evidently he saw the tree falling and tried to escape, for if he had been able to move just a few inches farther he would have been behind another tree.
The body was brought to the Holcombe funeral parlor where it was prepared for burial.
Mr. Weisbrod was 57 years of age. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Emma Weisbrod, two daughters, Mrs. Wilma Hawk and Mrs. Myrtle Wilson of Williamsport, one son Quentin Weisbrod at home, one sister, Miss Cynthia Weisbrod of Cherry township, four brothers Walter and Lewis Weisbrod of Cherry township, Herbert Weisbrod of Warner, N.Y. and Stephen Weisbrod of Granville Summit, also several grandchildren.
Funeral service was held from the late home Monday morning with further service in the Reformed church at Dushore, Rev. C.B. Meyers officiated.
Besides his children Herbert Weisbrod of Warner, N.Y. and Stephen Weisbrod of Granville attended the funeral.

Weisbrod, Walter and daughter Mabel keep together….

Weisbrod, Mabel d. 9-24-1942 (Home saddened by 2 deaths in 4 days)  Newspaper clipping 9-1942

Word was received last week that Miss Mabel Weisbrod, daughter of Mr.and Mrs. Walter Weisbrod of Cherry township had died in the St.Joseph Hospital at Philadelphia, Thursday, September 24th at 2:35 p.m.

This was a great shock to the family, as Miss Weisbrod had mysteriously disappeared on June 3rd  and up to this time had not been heard from.

When she left home it was with the intention of going to Williamsport where she expected to enter a hospital to train for a nurse. She was last on the streets in that city, but never reported at the hospital.  Every effort has been put forth on the part of the family since that time to find some trace of her, but it proved futile.

On Monday she became ill at the house where she was boarding.  The land lady called a city policeman and had her removed to St.Jospeh’s hospital.  Upon examination of her suitcase, the hospital secured names of her parents, and immediately called them, stating that she was in a serious condition.  Her brother left at once for Philadelphia and was with her when she died on Thursday.  Her death certificate gave the cause of death as “myocarditis” – a heat affliction.

She was 20 years, six months and 17 days of age.

The body was brought to the home of her parents, from whose residence the funeral was held on Monday morning, at 10 o’clock with further service in the Reformed Presbyterian church at this place.  Interment was in the family plot in Peace Cemetery.

She is survived by her parents and the following brothers and sisters:  Maynard, Robert, Ralph, Edna and Charles at home; Carol of Dushore RD2, Raymond of Camp Gordon, Ga., Mrs. A.H. Trick, Cherry township; Mrs. Preston Trick, Hughesville.

Mabel was a graduate of Cherry township high school at Mildred, and was a very earnest worker in the Reformed church and Sunday School.  She took an active part in all the activities of the young people and had many friends in this community.

He was a son of the late John and Anna Sick Weisbrod, and lived on the homestead where he was born.  In addition to the homestead he purchased the Edward Yonkin farm in Cherry township.

Besides his wife and children above mentioned, he is survived by a sister, Miss Cynthia Weisbrod, and three brothers: Stephen Weisbrod of Troy, Herbert Weisbrod of Warrens, N.Y. and Lewis Weisbrod of Cherry township.

Mr. Weisbrod was always active in the affairs of his community.  A graduate of Dushore High School, and an active worked in the Reformed church of this place.  He has held the office of Elder in this church for many years.

The building has fourteen fireplaces to furnish heat and comfort to their guests.   Mrs. Yonkin was born in Cherry Township, September 23, 1847, on what is still known as the Fairchild farm near the Horseshoe. On June 30, 1869, she married William H. Yonkin and settled on the farm where she has since lived.         For the past fifteen years she has been afflicted with a growth on her eyes from which she has been totally blind for a number of years. Her son and his wife have faithfully cared for her during this affliction. Her mind has been clear and bright up to the time of her death, and it was a great pleasure and privilege to spend a few hours in her company and have her recall many of the happenings in this community during her long and eventful life. Her early education was secured in the public schools and she taught a local school for a few terms, attending the county institute and getting her provisional certificate.       Funeral services will be held from her late home on Saturday at 10:30 o’clock, with further service in Peace church at 11:00 o’clock. Burial in the family pot in Peace cemetery.

Children of William & Hannah Yonkin:

Mrs. Emily Sollinger Ward                                                                               The Sullivan Review, 4-13-1944
Mrs. Emily Sollinger Ward of Moscow, celebrated the 97th anniversary of her birthday on Wednesday, March 29th at her home.
She was born in Cherry township, on the farm now owned by Arthur Huffmaster, youngest daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Borde Sollinger, who settled on that farm in 1829. Her father was drowned while fording the Loyalsock creek at Ringdale, when she was a young girl.
She was united in marriage with Thomas J. Ward of Wilkes-Barre, and left Sullivan County in 1874 for a home in the Anthracite region.
She is still very active (remembering very distinctly when the boys left Sullivan count to engage in the Civil War, and has seen the boys from her adopted county leave and some of them return from all wars since that time.)
She has a number of nieces and nephews still living in this vicinity. Her older sister Mary Sollinger was the wife of Joseph Marshall of Cherry township; her second oldest sister married the late Augustus Sick of Forks township, and her third oldest sister was the wife of the Anthony Tourschner of Satterfield.
